The English are brutes. That is why they enjoy the physicality of the league. Wenger started changing all that by introducing sleek players. Ozil is sleek, but he has a poor demeanor which doesn't portray a gladiator kind of guy like the Sanchez or Suarez you mentioned.

A poor demeanor hides all the facts. Take time to study Ozil's stats, and you will be flabagasted. Personally I was shocked to find out he has a better work rate and covers more km than Sanchez. Kindly do your research.
I saw the stats, I'm a big ozil fan, he was arguably the best 10 from his Madrid days and his first few seasons with us.
He deserves respect from us,Madrid and Germany, but Sadly, everything comes to an end, ozil has reached his end IMO.

He's won the world cup, league,fa cup, most assist, break records of chances created and assist in English football he's won almost everything winnable, he will leave England a legend and won't be forgotten, but I doubt the motivation is there again.

2018 style of football requires power, pace and energy Fabregas attested to that, that's the reason he ran to Monaco..
The only thing that could save him is either scoring or assisting anytime Emery uses him,as that's what I feel is saving Auba from being lashed.

Unfortunately, he doesn't, so trust fans to come for his head, but just one goal or assist, he will be forgiven.

Same with kosc, he got back from injury, commited 1/2
errors and gbam, you hear stuffs like * oh kosc is finished, retire him now, but after scoring against city and Chelsea..everyone went mute on him.

That's the world we live in. cheesy

What other best do you require from someone who is second highest goal scorer in the league with just a goal behind the epl highest goal scorer?

And how do you mean he will be useless witjout getting a good number 10 playing behind him? He is presently playing under that condition and so far so good he's delivering in his role. He's probably going to hit 20goals + in his first full season in England. I don't really get this personal standard you are setting for him, but belive me he has been very good at beating the normal standard to be used in judging him
I see him scoring v.much if surrounded by dembele, mhicky of old, reus, kagawa Shirley, pulisic et al. Else look at the big games he's played, he looks lost and useless with very few touches.

There's nothing much is telling your striker, you've been good, but do this and do that. Scoring 15 behind sallah isn't 10/10 , I'm not criticizing him -vely, I've said he's good and done well, just add this to your game daxzal..

Sanchez despite scoring 25 and assisting 10 fans ask him to release ball on time or demand few more stuffs. No Arsenal player has gotten to the 10/10 level.

Bro, honestly, which side are you on here? Auba doesn't do anything, really? Has he ever been the dribbling kind of striker or you just don't know him? Auba has always been about scoring but even he is now trying to add something new to his game. He tracks back most of the times and even put on tackles. Go check his stats for this season and see for yourself. He was on Hazard when we played them last, winning several tackles against him. Auba is not as lazy as Ozil and still most of the times gets the job done.
......He is only a goal behind Salah in the EPL despite the latter's blatant divings these days. Auba has 26 goals to his name in less than 40 games and that's in less than 2full seasons. That's the fastest ever goal - match ratio in our club's history and yet you complain about him. What else do you want from the guy? If it wasn't for our terrible defense this season, his goals would have surely made us title contenders. I really don't understand how some of you see football though......

....Lacazette that's always been mentioned by everyone has been here for a while but it's obvious he is not a goal scoring striker in the same league as the Agueros and Kane's of this world, hence the reason Wenger had to go for Auba. Lacazette is the master of all kind of players that excel in nothing specific. It's pretty clear to everyone one that if you want goals, you go for Auba... it's that simple.
Always waiting for chances and scoring isn't enough in this current English football, maybe in bundesliga, and that's why I say get him good creative wingers and Ams.

Auba worked hard against only Chelsea and maybe few others games, other times, he get dispossessed, doesn't win Ariel duel nor run at defenders like firminho did to us.

That's my personal issue with him, other than that, I'm not disputing he isn't doing fine, it is not too much yo ask him do more..
Your assessment of lacazette isn't fair enough.

Well, seems the coach likes Auba's playing style and it seems he is happy with his contributions which may be the reason he gets more playing time than any forward player in the team
obviously, Auba has been the scorer and any coach will use him.
The best of him can be gotten by surrounding him with creative wingers and a good no10. Else he will be useless..
But laca on the other hand, not much a scorer, but an all rounda forward who could score, build up and assist.

Let's say with
Auba 25 goals, 5 assists.
Laca 20 goals, 7 assist and 5 build up.

Good forwards, hope we get best of them.

I really don't understand what you want from Auba. He scored a beauty against Tottenham and we all praised him for that. He's second on the epl highest goal scorers with 15 goals and 4 assists. You are just being unfair talking about tapping in goals and all. Obviously you've been watching the wrong player all year round. I suggest you head to YouTube and watch a video of all his Arsenal goals and confirm if they are all tap-ins and see if those so called fans that believe he's nothing without Lacazette aren't just being foolish.

Auba like other strikers hard press defenders when he's not with the ball to force them miskick the ball towards our midfielders.

You talk about Ozil breaking assist record and all, yet he was let go by real Madrid. He broke same record here and has since diminished in form. We are talking about the present you are talking about the past. The guy agreed with you ozil was a beauty to behold but can't play the mordern day 10. He pointed out typical modern day number 10 to you in teams doing quite well now but you decide to stick with ozil of the past.

The truth is ozil has shown again and again that he can't hold his own when the team is in the defensive and most modern day coaches including Emery are not cool with that.

I wonder what you mean by that your last paragraph. Perhaps you see Giroud as a team player and Auba otherwise. Smh. So would rather your striker keep passing to team mates like Giroud does instead of scoring himself.
I'm not supporting ozil nor am I against Auba..
Giroud and sanago will score tap ins to.

Personally, I don't like their style of play in modern day football, maybe in 2012 I could have.

I'm sure if ozil has like 15 assist to his name with poor his usual slow empty performances, everyone would have been on his side, Auba's saving grace has been the goals either tap or shoulder in.

That's the funny thing about life,no one cares about your effort, so far they see result all your sins are forgiven.

I noticed Auba's style of just wanting for service to score and I started having some worries, some fans have started seeing this to, but we can hardly win the argument since he scores.

Often times I see remarks from pundits and fans saying " Auba didn't do anything apart from the goal
similar to when ozil had the 19 assist, comments like "ozil had a quiet game but had an assist and gbam they rate him 7.

As for me Laca ahead of Auba in the CF position.

Ask whoever the 4ck our sporting director is and he will tell you Auba was bought to score goals Giroud has always been missing; trust me he's doing just that.

Everyone knows he wasn't purchased to be driving the team upandan. He's never done that before now. He's been a goal scorer and yes he's been that at Arsenal. He is a goal behind Salah the last season's highest goal scorer and epl player of the year. Why you think he should be driving the team when the coach has not assigned him that role baffles me
Then ozil should be spared also, he's had the best assist and chance created stat, so why are they criticizing him, as a 10, your main duty is to assist and create chances, and ozil has done v.well on that front.
It it not his fault if the forwards can't finish it off, not his fault for goal keepers and defensive errors, not his duty to start tackling and winning ball back.

He broke the record of most chance created in a season, 2nd most all time assist in English football's history 19, behind Henri's 20..

And if ozil will be blamed for not doing enough, then Auba shouldn't be spared, fans everywhere claim Auba is USELESS without laca, then ozil should be excused for being useless without a Sanchez with him on pitch..

My argument is this, football today especially in Englad has passed " just go there and score,or go and create chances etc"

Players are expected to multitask on the pitch, Auba shouldn't be waiting for tap ins for the entire game, if the cut backs are not coming or are being intercepted, then drift to middle or wing, change dynamics, confuse opposition, try new stuffs like, shooting from outside, win fouls and penalties, hold the ball up for others to run in the box.

Its not every game you get those easy chances, that's why he seems useless in most big games, from the first half I know he will be -1 and won't score.

I'm not after highest goal scorer or assist trophy,be a team player, and stop restricting your task to just scoring or assisting that won't reflect on the team.

and what did they win for you?
You mentioned 2 injury prone players that will play one match in a season and spend the rest of the season on a wheelchair.
Like I said earlier, football is a team game. Relying on a player to carry the team and later blaming the player when the whole team is Shyte is hypocrisy.
Liverpool had Suarez but he couldn't win them the league despite scoring goals. Why? Because he was surrounded with Shyte players. He went to Barca where world class players existed and won everything. Why couldn't he win the world cup? Why Messi couldn't win the world cup? Because these guys were surrounded by Shyte players in their national team. Look at France, look at Belgium.
Y'all keep scapegoating a player that has been on the bench for the entire season instead of looking at the real problem. undecided
Edit
Someone said Ozil is easily targeted In matches, why is that? It's simple: he is the only one that can produce what a top class player would. Instead of his fellow teammates to protect him, nah. Those ones go dey do their normal rubbish for pitch.
Why did Germany crash out of the world cup? Kroos was always targeted and marked out in the games, and Khedira and the likes offered him no protection.
I'm not blaming the entire teams failure on Ozil, like some are doing for Matteo..
I meant no matter how bad your teammates are, A player of Ozil's calibre is expected to put up a performance that will make him outstanding from the bad bunch..

I mentioned Carzola and Rosciky because, no matter how bad the game Or season went, they most times are the ones who could lift their head up,applaud fans and be proud of their display.

I remembered a game at old Trafford in Santi's first season, he was running, crossing, shooting and eventually scored a beautiful goal,we lost 2 vs 1, carzola won the motm even ahead of the utd men.

Roscky & carzola didn't win much laurels, but they are like Viera and Pires in the heart of most fans.

The last game at city where everyone was poor, Matteo and Torreira stood out, and have been receiving praise here and there since Sunday.

Sanchez,Suarez were also like that, but ozil hardly is and can even be the worst among the bad bunch.

We aren't saying he should turn a magician and cover the mess of the team, but at least let's be able to say " oh what a bad performance, only ozil and so so stood out.

Ozil isn't alone on this for me, I lash Aubameyang to, as an experienced, expensive big name player, fans look up to you to drive and push the entire team up, whatever then happens, we can then say, he did all he could but was let down by the mediocre teammates.

undecided undecided Oga, don't be sentimental. Do you think any top team in football, Right now, will sign Ozil to be their 10? He can't play for Barca, Madrid (the two of them), Bayern, Juve, PSG, City, Liverpool etc...

The shaqiri you are talking about has not been world class this season. Baba has been on the bench for most matches. A good player, but definitely not in the same category as the 'then' Ozil, who was renowned as a world class 10.

Although I don't like him, Pogba, but his case is different. The coach forced most of then to play out of position or a very defensive game, which made most of them look useless.

The 'cracks' in Pogba's game sef, are self inflicted, because Baba always want to show off unnecessary. If he becomes a focused player, he will be far, far better than he is currently.

You can't compare their situation to that of Ozil's. Wenger did everything humanly possible to make sure Ozil delivered 100%, but the guy failed to perform. And it is the same thing playing out again under Emery.

Nobody is looking for who to scapegoat. When a player plays well, we praise him. If he plays rubbish, we lash at him, too. Was Mustafi not a Rock in his first 6 months? So, should be start praising him because of those 6-months, forgetting all the pain and sorrow the man has caused?

Apart from the Leicester City match, call any other two matches where Ozil had dominant displays. Please don't run away ooo...

Positives of Ozil.
1. Good passer of the ball.
2. Create Chances (assists).
3. Scores some goals ( usually under 12 a season).
That's all.

Negatives of Ozil.
1. Horrible without the ball.
2. Disappears for large spells of the game.
3. Contributes nothing defensively.
4. Easily becomes frustrated when things aren't going his way.
5. Usually disappears against big teams (note the word usually)
6. Easily Targeted in most matches (since they know he gets frustrated easily. Which turn makes him useless for the reminder of that match).
7. Work rate (both on and off the ball is zero)

That's what I can remember for now.

Bros, talk true. How can we still afford to have such a player on our team?

Frimino was/is a 10, too. And, he is good offensively and defensively. Erkisen in Spurs, he can defend and attack. KDB, that one is baba on his own. David Silva that looks like dry bonga fish, can attack and defend, too.

Bro, please, what is Ozil's excuse?

A few seasons ago, we all praised Ozil, too. And if you think there is nothing like 'modern football' then I don't know what to say to you.

A player that is earning 350k should be giving us VVD, Salah, KDB, Hazard, Kun etc level of performance every match.

Bros, because you like a player does not mean you should be blind to the truth. I like Ozil, too. But, he can never, I repeat, never start for me - if I was the manager.

We all have our own opinions. angry angry angry angry
How dare you finish my ozil like this, you are a bad pelson angry cry

God bless the ozil the world used to know and love, even Rooney begged SAF to bring him to utd, Germans love him, voted best German for 7 yrs consecutively.

I've loved him since the 2010 world cup, I was over the moon when we got him, even he's not what we needed then.

I remembered how I purposely played football in 2014, like ozil, my guys nicked me ozil. I love the dude, cool, religious, pretty face cheesy, and smooth going.

Sadly, his time is up, he played from 2010 to 2017/18...

He can't play the modern game style again,we have to move him on, but respect the dude. He's a baba. grin

But honestly I don't see how losing to Man City is a big deal when you know Arsenal will still finish in the top four.

One error Emery made was starting Auba and Laca. But can't blame him, there's very little quality to tinker with in that squad.
only palace and Lyon won surprisingly there, everyone will taste his L at Etihad..

I've never liked Auba and laca starting together, both are CF and world class finishers, neither is good at creating chances, maybe laca a bit. One has to be dropped for a creative player on the wings or middle...

Torreira, kosc, mustafi, leno and monreal did well for me

Guendouzi’s confidence, movements, guts and skills reminds me of Barcelona’s legendary midfielders. They like to hog the ball like him, but also have the skills to protect it
Others especially the defenders and attackers except iwobi are too afraid to lose the ball

Arsenal need more fearless and skillful players like him, kola, ozil,Ramsey, mhicky,Auba and many others rely on side safe passes and flicks to get us going forward.

Next game will determine if top4 is possible.

The defense and kepper did very well, Lichtensteiner and and iwobi gave the the goals and Aguero's 3rd was a foul.
97% Arsenal fan's all heaped praise on Torreira and Guendozi for a job well done in their role.DM & CM respectively.
Then cleary our attack was bad, no shot on target, not scary nor looked like scoring..
This is so because we lacked what city and other top teams in Europe do and have which are:
An attacking midfielder who drives forward, shoot and take players on..
Wingers who drives at defence, crosses and gives full backs something to think about.
Lastly, one CF whose job is mainly to score. City doesn't start Aguero and Jesus, Liverpool doesn't start firminho and struridge.
I don't support Auba and laca starting together, it dulls our attack, and reduces our creativity.

Bros current Arsenal is averaging 2.08 per games, Liverpool 2.29 goals per game and Man city 2.62 goals per game. The attackers are not doing bad compared to their contemporaries. This is a fact. It already clear defense is the major problem. What other pointers do you want?

I think I understand your football school of thought; it is hinged on out scoring your opponents right ? The Liverpool of Suarez era practised this and it still didn’t get them the league they so much desired. Now look at the current Liverpool team with a strong defence see what they are doing. You see if you will be considered a title contender there are matches that will go beyond outscoring ur opponents, rather it’s not conceding that will be ur headache ( and this is what the present arsenal has been unable to do)
I, like most fans want a good and tight defence, I don't like the outscoring opponent style Rodgers used.
I'm only pointing out that, Liverpool despite bad defence that year had attackers covering their defence by scoring loads of goals.
We might have scored a lot, maybe because Auba/laca are prolific in front of goal but I see us struggling too much to break teams down.
I remembered Arsenal vs city at the Emirates, sterling scored early around 10mimt, oir attackers couldn't score nor looked like scoring till Bernardo finished us around 80 mint.
Fa cup against utd, we had 10 added time, we didn't look like scoring,city/liverpol could have leveled up.

Let's agree the defense is bad and worst in the league.but our attackers supposed to do a Liverpool of SAS's season by scoring gallons of goals, we should be winning like a 5 -4 or loosing like a 4-3.

And thats why we keep scoring crappy goals.

This system is more or less a hint at the fact that our midfield is as limp as it already is. When last did Xhaka or Torreira assist a goal?

ozil that is considered lazy still comes off the bench and assists.

iwobi for the last 10games has been involved in goals for Arsenal. usually goals that open the scoresheet.

The Kolasinac and Bellerin stuff seems to be working but im not satified with it cos it exposes the defence to stupid goals, especially when their pace is used 100percent in running back to defend than shielding the defence.

Dont even Mention Ramsey cos he is gone to Juve already and thats a bad deal.

Emery seems cool with his middle passing the ball sideways than forward and ut makes Good strikers like Auba and Laca to seem ineffective. Imagine a good midfield providing this two good sleek passes without hestitation, or indecision and we would get 60+ goals by now.

Emery relies too much on these wingbacks and it sucks to me.

Asin if wasnt enough that Wenger defence were bad, he came up with a system to take two defenders to be attacking. We arent ready for this risky system. thats just it.

Iwobi is the only dribbler in that team to me.
Exactly, you have said my mind, only if Auba/ laca are surrounded by quality AM and wingers, we may be scoring 3+ goals every game, I get frustrated when we struggle to create or break down a Cardiff or Burnley, at half time we already panicking and wondering how the goal will come.
Our midfielders doesn't just do simple nearest passes.only iwobi and Matteo tries diff stuffs.
I don't think Emery is happy with what he's got in the creative position, that's why he got Suarez.

how would you say our defence is okay in one paragraph and counter that in another paragraph in the same post? you just shot yourself in the foot.

Their moving forward is the problem. No matter how fast they may be to recover, they cannot be settle enough to stop goals from being scored against us. even if its ramos and terry we have.

Thats why its not okay. The shadow marking stuff sucks for arsenal.

we are still good at the offside traps but trust me, our defence sucks. How can u be passing inside the box with terrifying strikers such as firmino, salah and mane inches away. instead of budeying the ball, they are showing flair!!!

we may have defenders that contribute well to getting goals, but Arsenal's defence is wack than Leicester when it comes to Organization and overall reaction. fact.

we have conceeded stupid goals.

GF-50
GA-33
GP-24

Thats conceeding 1.7goals per game!!!

Dats not a good defence.

See liverpool's GA.

im not expecting a high performance, but that conceeding of stupid goals is my issue with the back line.
I meant our starting back 4 is okay to get some job done (not world class),and our full back going far up pitch since we lack width upfront has been the bane of our getting scored on the counter.
Its okay, All the best till we clear them all out.

In a same you're buttressing my point, although they played to their strengths, their weakness (defense) still cost them in the end.

Just imagine where we would have been if he had a decent defense. Or a good defensive approach (the whole team defending together.)

Bro, let's agree to disagree.

To me, our defense is nothing to write home about.
It's okay, my fear is kola starting against city,he will so bump forward and allow sterling a free ride in our box.that's scary and trust me when aguero and Sterling double up on kosc, fans will roast him and free kola.
Its okay.

So you think Bellerin poses more threat playing on the defensive compared to when he goes forward? I disagree with that.

I've watched Bellerin play for few seasons now and I observed when on the defensive he's not as good as he is when offensive. In fact, of the top 4 or 5 teams competing with Arsenal for a top 4 spot, Bellerin is playing defensively can match any of the players in that same position. Is it Azpilicuelta or Valencia he can claim to be more defensiveinded than or Walker or this liverpool boy? If you will be truthful with yourself, you will admit whether playing on the offensive or defensive any of those mentioned will trump Bellerin hands down in that position he plays. That boils down to the quality of the player which someone pointed out already.
Bellerin going forward is good, he's one of the highest assisting full back since he he came from academy, because of his pace,he's got the advantage of running back on time..

Maybe due to him not being physical, he may not be as rugged as Walker and the likes, but I rate him a bit above average defensively if allowed to defend with a sterling like attack in his front.

There's a reason barca wanted him. Messi will do the attack job from the right, while he concentrates on defence..

Sanga and Clichy won the league at city, they were made to look like world best because of what they had in front of them.

I really do not understand you here. You stated Liverpool defence back then was shitty and their attack was on fire and they ended up losing the league. Now they added quality to their defence and they are looking like Epl champions already in January, yet you want to make it seem like defence was not their problem then.

Klopp observed he had ageing defenders and replaced them with young blood doing quite well and a club record signing goal keeper. We saw how Judas Karius made sold out in the UCL final and conceded goals he shouldn't have, and Klopp replaced him with a record signing that has saved them points.

I agree with you on not having wingers that can put the ball in front of our strikers, but the major problem Arsenal has is defence followed by wingers which will be the case if we want to play tru the wings. If we don't want to do wing play, then central midfield should be our concern after defence.

So are you saying if you are appointed arsenal manager today, you will play mustafi, Bellerin, sokratis and Kolasinaic at the back 4 and then focus on getting Carrasco and maybe perisic and you will win the league in the next two years without injury?
I meant Liverpool's attack of 2013/2014 season was surprisingly good, it was their attack (mainly wingers) they conceded goals but outscore opposition, they scored average of 3+ goals against everyone including the big4, it was only mouriho's bus that stopped them.

They didn't lose the league because of defence, Gerard's back pass against Chelsea and a shocking upset at selhus park gave city the league.
Klopp came in,sold Suarez, coutinho and dead woods, last season was very good for them with mane, firminho and sallah, but they were still very good..

Our present attack won't get us to what the Liverpool of 2014 got to nor of 2018..

Also I don't understand how midfield play looks, top teams nowadays play from the wings mainly.

Lastly, haven known the current financial situation at Arsenal, yes I'll take carrasco and perisic.

I'll instruct bellerin and Monreal to focus primarily on defence before over laping , also koosc, mustf, sokrt and holding to avoid high line.
Without injury or any ish, I expect that squad to compete for the league and be up there, whatever then happens I'll look to strengthen in subsequent Sumners.

Those people that are even using Barca as an example of a weak backline are 'ignorant'. How many teams in world football have a better backline than Barca's. Although it is not the best in the world, but it is among the best.

Although I support that system argument, I'll also have to disagree, too. Because, that same system bleeped pep up in the EPL (1st season). It was only when he bought 'quality' players, did the system become a huge success.
I think barca, city PSG and few other big teams don't do the typical old school defending, I noticed those defenders have this quality of shielding the ball and passing accurately to teammates even when under pressure.
Pique isn't like Ferdinand or Godin, but his ability to gaurd the ball, pass it on,keep possession makes him super and that's what city use.
Walker and Danilo are good examples, they don't lose the ball, but if faced by neymar or mpbappe, will surely struggle.
Our defenders lack that except Holding, we lose the ball under pressure, that's what modern teams do now.

Bro, read my comment again.

You said as long as a team as a quality attack, it is ok. And I said it is not. Using Liverpool as an example, they had a quality attack, but shitty defense, and they paid dearly for it.

Bro, when he had a complete back four, we we're still conceding goals like no man's business. This is not a matter of system, but down to the quality of the players. Which is average at best.
Liverpool that year had the worst defence of ageing skirtil and toure, moreno and Johnson, they are worse than our first back4, Rodgers played to the strength of SARs and outscored any team, the attack was good and was stopped by mouriho's packed bus at Anfield, they bottled it at crystal palace.

That Liverpool had wingers and was close to winning the league, if we have wingers maybe we will be up there and close to winning the league and then sort our defense later on.

We've drawn/lost 90% of our first half, we struggle to break teams down, we aren't like the Liverpool's SAS that outscores every team.

Our 1st choice back4 may not be world class, but aren't as bad as being portrayed.

Bros, when we had our back 4 stable early in the season we were conceding goals. We had a full back 4 against fulham in the first leg yet we conceded, the same thing happened in the second leg. In the two matches our attack was sharp while our defence was poor. We couldn't keep clean sheet when we still had our defenders intact, neither did we keep clean sheet when they were injured. So you see that point about injured defenders won't stand.

We played two legs against cardiff the second least scoring side in the league as of today, our fully fit back 4 of Bellerin, mustafi, Sokratis and monreal conceded 2 goals. Can you imagine? On second leg we still concede 1 in the die minutes. Yet we should believe a Frontline that has scored the same number of goals with Tottenham and 5 goals lesser than the league leaders are not doing enough?

Kai! I no gree
Bro, my issue isn't the striker, I already reiterated Auba and laca will and can score goals than any other forward, they are that good.
But with this system of relying on full backs to create chance after going one nil down or drawing means our backline will be exposed and we'll get scored against any team.
