I think Fkhalifa was talking about the future not now.

I think in years to come with more experience, Guendouzi could become one of the best midfielders in the league based on his age/performance index.
Exactly what I'm saying, its understandable xhaka should start ahead of him because he's more experienced in top flight football, has national team's caps and knows the team and league far more than Matteo..

But Matteo in 2/3 years will very likely displace xhaka, because to me, he's more talented, mobile, energetic, covers ground, better composure/confidence and swagger on the ball.

I prefer this Xhaka/Torreira midfield pairing.
something tells me guendozi and Torreira could be better, people are using the city and Chelsea game to conclude on that partnership.

Matteo has been a joy to watch, he's got swag on the ball, confidence, purposeful passes unlike the rest who just stick to basics and side way passes.

ATM, that partnership is the probably best, but in the future Matteo and AMN will dazzle and win lots of fans over.

Good win and cech with a MOTM performance..

Holding seems to have matured and ready, a good back up defender IMO.

Xhaka had a good game..

We missed mhicky and fast wingers who can drive the ball forward with energy and purpose is a major need in Jan.

Why is it that our players want the final whistle any time they are 2-0 or 3 goals up?

This has been the style under Wenger and it's still the same,He should instill the never tired of scoring mentality to them like city and Liverpool.

Guendozi again showed top class, That boy is our best center midfielder ATM. Smith Rowe looked like de bruyne and Brandt of Germany and welbeck is good as our 3rd striker and squad player.

Good game overall.

I can't see how Emery can't notice that Auba is poor on the wings.
Bring the guy to the centre and pair him with Lacazette. If not, bench him. We need proper people playing where is comfortable for them.
Emery wasn't a fan of Auba on the wings, I think he is just trying to satisfy and experiment fans wish of playing both together.

Good result away at Newcastle..

The attack was blunt all through, no creativity from our forward players, Auba once again poor in that set up,
Torreira struggled against those physical men..

Sadly cech conceded, he deserved the clean sheet.

Özil has proven his class everywhere he has been. In fact, Mesut Özil remains the only player to have been the top assist provider in:
Bundesliga
La Liga
Premier league
Champions league
Europa league
European championships
World cup

Mr. Consistent

I saw the above on a watsaap GC, if the info there is true, don't we think ozil's criticism have gone over the bar?

I think the guys lack of pace and strength in him and around him makes him struggle in English football.

You got it spot on. To play two CFs you need wingers. In fact, Wenger has used two CFs till he lost his senses. Henry-Bergkamp, Henry-Kanu, Henry - Wilford, etc.

But you can also use wingbacks.. this is modern day football.

I have always felt Emery should play a 3-5-2. It covers our strengths and weaknesses.

Fkhalifa can see that two CFs is possible.

As for Henry, I have never argued he isn't a better player than Auba. And the goal against Madrid was a beauty. But that is a one off. Even that was pace at work not skills.
That invicible team was a madt team, Each player in every position were top class, highly talented, mobile, strong and hard hearted...442 was perfect for them....

Our current crop of off sexy boys are far from it.

I agree 352 will suit Auba and laca., and it will be even better if either of them can be Henri like on the ball.

If you must play two CF, then you should have flying wingers and two very good CMs with ability to defend and pass the ball effortlessly e.g Modric and Kante but you don't have such quality wingers in Arsenal so, playing 2 CFs is like harming yourself...
As for Henry's goal at the Bernabeu, it wasn't all pace as you think, it takes a special skills to move with the ball at pace, Auba has pace but he would struggle to score that goal every day...
Thank you sir..

2CF? When it's not 1998 football, managers only risk it when desperately in search for goal towards end of match..

Guendozi's left arm is enough to sweep Auba away off the ball, grin , IGWE was complete and blessed with all attributes required of a striker.

Bros with due respect, how long have you been watching football? You can have TWO target men if you want.
Though for the case in question, Aubameyang prefers to play off a target man due to his superior pace and positioning.

As for Henry, agreed he has more skills than both strikers we have now, but generally your igwe was still average. Against Madrid at Benabeu, it was his pace that got him past the defenders rather than pure skills.
I give up.

Unai Emery is smart enough to know when to start both Auba and Lacazette. Against the better teams he'll must likely go with a lone striker and an extra midfielder. He tweaks his system to fit the opponent. That's one major difference between him and Wenger.
Exactly, he gave it a trial, since Cardiff wasn't supposed to pose much threat and can be experimented against...

I noticed pep started Aguero/Jesus against the castles, but was quick to sub off one of them for a winger when the result wasn't going his way.

Spy360:
You probably didn't get me. Both can be used as double strikers without playing on the wings.

As for your Henry analogy, you probably haven't seen much of both strikers especially at their former clubs. Both are deadly poachers and are fast on the ball.

Henry wasn't all that skillful mind you, he only uses his pace to get past defenders. Henry too was a winger converted to a striker, which gave him a unique status away from the usual big CF we know. And both Lacazette and Aubameyang are same mode as Henry except that Henry was best of the three.
Double strikers means one drops deep or drifts to the wings, we can't have 2target men waiting for the ball..that's suicidal...

At their former clubs, they were brilliant for their scoring ability as a CF and that's that about them..

Bro, IGWE has more skills than the duo, remember his goal at the Madrid,he alone ran ragged that defence and I don't think Auba/laca have strength for such.

Auba and Lacazette can play together without any playing on the wings.
No, it won't work, neither of them can do a thiery on the ball, Henri excelled in a 2 forward formation because he can fall deep, get the ball, run at defenders, bully them with height, shoot with either foot from any angle and and as well create chances...

I doubt either of the 2 could do half that job..

This isn't 1999 football,The use of fast, creative and goal scoring wingers is the in thing amongst the big and succesful football clubs

Cardiff didn't even pack the bus,yet our attack footy wasn't sharp,no threat from the wings nor the middle, not much on target shots...

Auba clearly had a below average game aside from the beautiful goal,Iwobi and michy would have faired better.

Both strikers are good in the box and can finish brilliantly, I say stick them to the CF position.

This Laca and Auba starting together thing is overrated.Auba’s goals will paper over the cracks and I’m sure people will forget his performance and look on that.I said here several times that Laca and Auba in the same team won’t work and that it should be one of them not both.

Auba is not that good of a winger because he cant beat his man one vs one very well and is poor in a creative sense. Please dont let the goals stats at Dortmund deceive you.He became world class at CF not RW.If Auba was still playing as a winger at Dortmund chances are he would never have moved to a top team.

I’d easily start Welbeck,Iwobi,Nelson and Mkitaryan over Auba at RW not because they are world class but because they offer more.Face the truth that it should be one of Auba or Laca not both.

Quite alright, Auba or laca will likely score any goal scoring chance around the box but that won't blind me, Giroud flicked many balls that lead to our goals, welbeck flicked similar for Auba last year and that isn't a biggie among forward players..

We lacked creativity, mhicky was missed, our final third was dull, unlike our first 3 games where we created tones of chances.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Fkhalifa(m): 5:56pm On Sep 02, 2018
Auba at RW will not work. This is against Cardiff which is a real candidate for relegation.Against a top team any decent RB shuts him down easily. Why are we trying to shoehorn them both in one team?Their best position is CF and no other position.I hate seeing us doing the same thing but expect different results.

Now there’s absolutely zero penetration from RW and LW due to Auba and Ozil respectively. Its my opinion.I don’t buy into this playing them together thing because so know it won’t work and today is only a sign of things to come. Also don’t forget it’s against potential relegation candidates Cardiff.

Auba was poor.If Gervinho gave his performance today people will be calling for his head.He was bad and if he hadn’t scored I’d have called his performance average. Was also bad on the wing under Wenger but stats covered up for him.I mean what kind of team do we have?Players placed in wrong positions all over the pitch and we expect them to do well.I didn’t see anything which tells me I’ll be wrong.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Fkhalifa(m): 5:49pm On Sep 02, 2018
Xhaka is no DM nor is he good enough in an attacking sense.Arsenal can’t afford to rely on Xhaka in a two man midfield because he’s not reliable in terms of possessing the ball under pressure. He’s used as a DM so that he won’t have to be relied upon heavily in attack. All he can do is pass the ball upfield and nothing much apart from that.So since he’s not good in defense or good in attack what should we do?Sell him!

bellerin can play wing instead
yes he's got pace and good chance creation, but I fear he that's all he's got about him...

Sterling for instance will be a nuisance and problem for the opposition throughout the game with tricks, shots, take ons etc..

For me quality wingers will stabilize our attack and defence..

Auba and laca will score more, faster and better.

Bellerin and monreal will have energy to carry out their primary defence responsibilities.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Fkhalifa(m): 8:14pm On Aug 28, 2018
It will spell bad omen for me if arsenal scout can work on every position except the winger postion like they and some fans think we don’t need it..

Lets go check out the top clubs in europe, see the wingers thay have.

When most of our opponents start packing the bus again against us, so we are expected to always pass our way through?

We need to be more direct and unpredictable on the wings and also if we have good wingers, the likes of bellerin and monreal would not need to spend most of their time upfield trying to give us width thereby exposing us at the back from counters, instead they would choose the timing of their runs better.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Fkhalifa(m): 8:10pm On Aug 28, 2018
Wingers aren’t a thing of the past, big teams across.....
Europe invest duly on wing football..

Barca, real madrid, man city, bayern, liverpool, napoli, juventus, psg, chelsea all have wingers.

salah, mane, dembele, asensio, vasquez, bale, hazard, pedro, willian, shaqiri, malcom, insigne, callejon, coman, sane, sterling, mahrez, neymar, di maria, douglas costa and mbappe are all modern wingers, and many more and i don’t see the struggling either, rather makes their footy tick fast and ease tasks for the Cf position....

We have a bunch of midfielders and strikers, very unbalanced squad and we need to start scouting better to undo it.

We finally sorted out the striker and dm positions, the wings and center back postions need fixing too....This strengthens my argument why Auba and laca shouldn't pair up

I just hope Auba and Laca aren’t shoehorned into the team just because it’s claimed they want to play with each other.

That to me will be another mistake by Emery. Why?It’s because none of Laca or Auba are good enough as “wingers”.Their 1v1 decision making on the wing is poor from what I’ve seen from both before they came to Arsenal and they also lack creativity at the wing.

We must not force both into one team just because they are top players. Its not sustainable and won’t work.

It may look good on paper but not on the pitch, and this calls for going all out for a very fast, strong natural winger in the next summers.

Guendouzi actually gassed out. Besides which he was ok.
Auba cant play on the wings being unable to protect the fb.
I think that Torriera needs to be given the chance. He looks solid and underrated.
I thought I was the only one who doesn't see Auba on the wings nor him pairing laca..

I was telling people this last time but they wouldn’t listen.

Aubameyang is all about intelligent use of pace to position himself 1v1 with the keeper or using his pace to set him free in the box. He’s not a “build up” kind of guy.He just can’t do that. The problem is that he’s just not been provided with the required services that his qualities require.

I also hope those who want Auba at RW so that Laca plays CF face reality that it won’t work.Any decent RB will handle Auba at RW easily as shown in this match.

He's getting to relaxed and becoming lazier than ozil, but its like he is immune to criticism unlike mesut, its high time he started feeling the heat, he hasn't net in all his big games featured so far..

I salute Emery for hauling him of for welbeck who I think worked harder and even scored more than Auba's 3 games so far.

I think that will gear him up..

Wenger and some deluded fans would have played him throughout having that false hope that he will score hatricks and over take Hary Kane in the scoring chart.
