@Flakeyy please could you enlighten further. Now in an instance whereby one already deposited money in a GIC and eventually the study permit application gets denied, how can one get a refund of the money in GIC?
In my case I am acting as a sponsor for my wife for a 1 yr Program in Saskatchewan Polytechnic. School deposit of 10k cad have been deposited and LOA issued. Are you are advising me to deposit her remaining 10k cad balance deposit in a GIC because her total school fees is 20k cad for her 1 yr programme?? Aside her 20k living expenses + flight expenses as instructed by IRCC. Please enlighten me and others in my similar situation to learn. Thanks. God bless you.

If you’re denied a visa, just inform the bank where you did the GIC and they’ll refund you.
I paid my brother’s school fees for 1 year, and sent him the exact money for his living expenses to his dom account, Cos you can only send the funds through USD or CAD. Note that the money for the GIC must come from the applicant’s account and not the sponsor’s account. If the account sending the money to Canada does not bear the applicant’s name, it will be rejected and the GIC will not be done.
I had extra funds in my account that showed that I could pay his flight tickets and other miscellaneous expenses, and could also cover his 2nd year fees if needed. He didn’t have any money in his naira account and he didn’t submit that. He only submitted the GIC letter and I only submitted my Statement of account and I highlighted the school fees I paid, and the money I sent to his dom account. I wrote my sponsorship letter, attached my birth certificate with his, pictures of 2 of us, and my employment letter. The money was in my savings account, so it had mostly inflows and the major outflows were the fees I paid and the money I sent for his GIC.
Don’t put her remaining fees in GIC. The idea of GIC is that the bank gives the student a certain amount each month for their living expenses. If you have 20,000 there, you won’t be able to access the full amount when you get to Canada. The bank will divide that money by 12 months and say it comes out as $1600, every month they release that $1600 to you, to help pay for accommodation, feeding and transportation. If you put in her school fees, you’ll not be able to access it until after a year.
If you want to use a GIC, Keep her school fees, flight ticket money and any other money in your account and only send $20,650 as the amount that will be in her GIC.

I try to apply for GCMS again but guys let all come together and help me review before I re apply again 🥹

If your sponsor is willing to gift you the living expenses for one year, I’ll advice you put it in a GIC account. There’s a 95% chance you’ll be approved if you put the POF in a GIC account. It shows that your sponsor has totally gifted you that amount.

That’s what I did for my brother. I paid his 1 year school fees and gave him the 1 yr living expenses which he put in a fix account, and they just sent him a message to go for his medicals.

Try it and it would probably work.

Okay, so in that case, there should be some amount gifted to him from the sponsor as a means to show your commitment, proof that the sponsor has always been supporting him, and ensure to cover up the asset part. You must convince the VO that he will return after schooling

Thank you very much. I’ll start putting money in his account as a gift deed.

Hello, I have some questions.
1. How old is your brother?
2. Is your brother working?
3. Marital status?

He’s 26, single and just finished school. He’s doing his NYSC now.

Hello, please I need some help. My brother just gained admission and my husband and I want to be his sponsor, though my mom is still alive. I’m a PR in Canada and I have the proof of funds in CAD. Will his application be denied if I’m his sponsor?

For now, I'd say BA would be really hard to push for visa sponsorship because the talent are in abundance in Canada. When seeking to sponsor work permit for foreign nationals, the govt here really scrutinize the process and would only approve such WP when you can prove that the skillet is hard to find or cannot be found here. That's why it's relatively easier for core technical folks like developers, architect etc to get visa sponsorship.

It's a way to ensure people within Canada are employed.

I’m in Canada already. Jz wanted to know if your firm has positions for BA.

If you're a new PR, you do not need to have filed your taxes before you can apply for CCB. However, you may face a bit of a challenge.
There are 3 methods of application;
i. birth registration - only if your child was born in Canada. I registered using this method when my family had newly landed and had not filed taxes yet. Note that we stated our income from Nigeria, but this in itself is not 'tax filing'.
ii. CRA My Account - only if you've filed taxes before
iii. Mail - I believe this is the option that can work for you.

Thank you so much

File your taxes as soon as you land.

Your income in Canada for previous year will be 0.

Alternatively, apply for child care benefits, the form should double as filing for taxes too.

Thank you so much

No.

You will need to declare how much you earned in the last year in your country of residence.

Apply as soon as you land. It takes three months to process.

Thank you so much

Taxes are filed on preceding year basis. (PYB) You would need to wait till next year filing season since you were not resident in Canada last year.

Okay. Thank you. Do we need to file our taxes to apply for Child benefits?

Was Accra your VO ?

Because mine is CIO Sydney, would I still send the mail to Accra since I'm sending my documents to Lagos VFS.
Yes. My VO was Accra, so I suggest you send to your VO. You can also copy Accra since they'll be the ones to stamp the passports.

Hello,

Please has anyone here requested for an extension for passport submission?

Do you attach any document to back up why you needed the extension?

For example the collection slip for passport renewal

I only sent a mail to Accra VO explaining why I wouldn't be able to meet the deadline and an extension was granted. Didn't attach any documents.

Thank you for your concern.
It's just the uncertainty of Accra and how long it will take to add the baby.

We've waited so long for this PPR, the timing is just off. I've heard of families that have been waiting for close to a year, just to add their baby.

My dear, if your EDD is in February, you won't be able to travel. It'll take at least 2 weeks for the fastest VO to stamp your passports, plus you've not even put in place any other situation that might arise, cos on this journey one has to be ready for the unexpected.
I was also in your shoes, and I'll give you this advice:
Raise a Web form informing IRCC that you're due for delivery, and you'll like your passport submission deadline to be extended. Once you give birth, go and do your baby's passport and medicals. There's a list of things to send to IRCC. Once your baby has been added to your application, send all your passports(including the baby's passport) using the old PPR sent to you to the VFs you want to use. They'll stamp everybody's passport. The secret is to make sure that your passport is not stamped now before you deliver, if not the COPR will be revoked and you'll start waiting for a new PPR

Hello Flakeyy,

Congratulations on your PPR.

Many have responded to this already, however I wanted to quickly draw your attention to "safe time to fly" for pregnant women. Please note that the internationally recommended is 32 weeks. Although some airline - specific - may allow up till 35 weeks but must include a "fit to fly" from your GP or reliable hospital. Please put this in mind as you search for the airline also enquire about their options for pregnant women.

Secondly as regards the OHIP, yes you can get help right away when you land, in fact I will advise you to contact a midwife since that is most likely what you'll be using as a resident without Health Insurance Card - surely you dont want to pay when you can be on insurance. As such, start browsing the closest midwives association closest to your choice of residence.

Also do not forget the 14day quarantine period, meaning if you have to wait to 35 weeks before flying, you'll be almost due at 37weeks.

Kindly put the above 2 factors into consideration when deciding when to fly, I sincerely wish you haven't booked yet, because as you said, please do not consider birthing in Nigeria...please do not! My wife and I even got a placement early this year with 2 midwives and had interviews and zoom sessions already without landing yet or even PPR self only for our hopes to be dashed...well as you know corona and Ottawa change hand for us...baby is now 4months and we still dey naija..lol

See the link to the Ontario midwives page, use the search option to find the closest to your choice of destination /residence.

HERE

Thank you so so much.... I've considered all these oo... I've also spoken with my doctor. He has arranged my medical records, and will sign my fit to fly... I hope to travel before my 35week mark. I just pray borders have not been shut by then.

For my career path, you're suggesting a diploma or writing from scratch. I'm already researching and want to register and send my WES ECA to CPA for evaluation, and hope to move from there.

Thank you. I'm most grateful.

Hmmm...these are very valid points ooo. I was about 7 months pregnant when I moved in 2015. I remember almost not finding a midwife. They all said I was too close to term and didn’t have any slots. Thank God I finally got a spot with Diversity Midwives . I was an international student when I came in 2015 and didn’t have OHIP initially. I didn’t have to pay for my labs, Ultrasound and epidural (The midwife practice I used had arrangements that made this possible). Another thing to note is that Midwives can’t handle high risk pregnancies. Common reasons why they deem a pregnancy high risk in Canada are - having a chronic condition like diabetes and hypertension and being over 35. There maybe other factors. In this case, the midwife will transfer your care to an Obstetrician. You can also decide to keep the midwife but your OB will be the main caregiver. Midwifery care is great sha, it’s very personal and they do home visits after having your baby. They may even help with things like bathing your newborn.

In addition , I’m praying your family gets PPR soon. All the best!

Thank you. I'll go check them out and other midwives agencies.
We have our PPR. Just waiting for our passports to be returned. Hopefully we leave before mid January.

Lastly, you must present a covid 19 negative test certificate which is compulsory for all travelers landing in Canada. This is the latest news by the Canadian government as at this evening.
Cheers

If you chose to go with CPA, the first thing to do is to evaluate your BSc and see if you need to take prerequisite courses. If you need to take prerequisite courses, you can look for a diploma that covers all you need and will give you a certificate also. If you go the school route you will have access to loan and grant to cover your prep courses. Once you start working your employer can pay for the PEP part of CPA.
Here is a link to post secondary institutions for Ontario.

Thank you so much. I'm most grateful.
Please would I have to send my transcript to Wes again, or the eca done is enough??

1. Ontario has waved the 3 months wait since the pandemic started. Why not message them as regards your pregnancy case. https://www.ontario.ca/page/apply-ohip-and-get-health-card#:~:text=Ontario%20is%20waiving%20the%20three,the%20criteria%20for%20OHIP%20coverage. Everything you also need to know is on their website.

2. Since you don't have acca, there is no cost effective way. Starting the cpa from scratch will cost you over 13000- 15,000 over 2 years. Better than going for a diploma or masters as those ones will cost you more.
Thank you ednut. I'll send them a message right away.
13,000... Wow... The Lord is my strength.

Hello everyone. Compliments of the season. I just got my PR and we're planning to land next month. Please I have a few questions and I'll appreciate if you guys can put me through.

1. I'm pregnant. We plan to land in Toronto, and I'll be about 35weeks gone by then. Does Ontario still do the 3 months wait before we're eligible for health insurance?? If yes, please which province issues health insurance within a week??

2. I'm an accountant, practiced a little with my degree, but I've been in the banking sector for the past 1year. I want to practice with my degree and do the CPA. But I don't have ACCA or ICAN, and all I've read on the first thread are for people converting their ACCA or ICAN to CPA. I would like to know which is easier and cost effective. Do the CPA exams from the scratch, or do a diploma or Masters that covers some or all of the CPA courses
I would be grateful if I can get clarification from a landed senior.

Thank you
