I live in a North African country that witnessed the "revolution". The country is far worse than prior to the revolution. |
Are the Reps now the judiciary? This is all about recuperating their source of income, having fed fat in the past from the pension funds and all the corruption. That source is now becoming dry - and whoever is standing in their way must be intimidated. Shame to the House of Thieves! pc |
A totally infantile subject. Why should you have to "decide" who your son should marry? You would be a disaster of a father to even harbor the thought, and your son an even worse failure to listen to you. Christ! FG |
That last bit "And these three are one" is a spurious text. Do your research! |
Couldn't he say it in a simpler way? Fog in print. |
Good for him! He can apply for a job with Facebook ![]() FG |
Na wetin be "vernacular" ![]() ![]() Your kids should speak your language or the language(s) of the community they live in. Language is life. It is the height of ignorance when parents ban their kids from speaking the "mother tongue" or the local language of the community in which the family lives. Such children end up stultified in many ways. FG |
It is not so much the bad roads as the fact that there appears to be no regulation requiring containers to be tethered securely to the flatbed truck! As long as elementary safety measures are not enforced, this will continue to happen. Very sad indeed. Logging companies do the same thing with timber and every time there is a mishap, many souls perish. We are very long on calling on God to help us! He already has by giving us the brain to think, to write laws and regulations!! God will not come to enforce laws. Humans must. Nigeria needs to wake up to enforce laws and regulations. FG |
Tell her not to be mad, make peace with her and hug her. Works all the time for me! FG |
Not to discourage you, but this is rather ordinary stuff. You must go far beyond this to win real attention. Very few enthusiasts would hang any of these in their corridor. Your talent is nascent; break out of the cocoon, be emboldened to create your style. Disappointed? Don't be. I am an avid collector. Take what I have written above as encouragement! FG |
Solidbroda, There is only one way of finding out if AIDS is real: sleep around unprotected for three months, visit all known prostitutes, then go have yourself tested. That should be easy to do, shouldn't it? This "AIDS-does-not-exist" delusion is at the very root of the problem. To come to a public board to spout such nonsense is sad indeed. FG |
Money, money, money in a cracking brown envelop. Even the blind can "see" that stuff. FG |
Don't use the phone (voice, text) when driving. FG |
Everyone speaks with an "accent"; it is in the very nature of language that people speak with local coloration of some sort. For second language users, the influence of the mother tongue (usually called L1) on the second language (L2) varies, depending on how early the speaker was exposed to the second language. I don't believe there is a Nigerian accent as such. Rather, there are several accents within the Nigerian space, as there are within other spaces where English is the second language. FlamingGun |
EPOMA: Abysmal ignorance about JW roots! That "masonic" thing has been trounced a thousand times over - but people will believe in all sorts of stories, no matter what. If freemasonry were an issue, no one would ever set foot in a Catholic Church or many other churches for that matter. If you hate witnesses, at least do it for a "real" reason (I believe a Christian must not hate other human beings for anything, including their beliefs). FG |
Of course you can leave. There is such a thing as "disassociation" in which you write to your Body of Elders to say you no longer want to be a witness. The Body of Elders may invite you to hear out your reasons for not wanting to continue. You may refuse the meeting. Alternatively, they may send two Elders to confirm that you wrote the letter. If confirmed, a short announcement is made to your Congregation to say you have voluntarily chosen not to be a witness anymore. Choosing to disassociate is treated as ex-communication (disfellowship) with the attendant consequences. You could spare yourself all that by simply fading away (i.e. skipping meetings, not participating in field service, etc.). This will put you first on "irregular" status, then after six months of not participating in field service and reporting time, on "inactive" status. Fading away offers less pain compared to disassociation or ex-communication. It gives you time to buy time - find new friends, move to a new locality if you can afford it, still talk to active witnesses without necessarily being shunned (although you may be considered "bad association" or may be "marked", etc. Now you know. FG |
Cloud7: Again, you regurgitate information you've either not digested or have chosen not to digest - although in some respect, your vocabulary is witness-speak. This thread was about giving advice to someone who is in some sort of dilemma. I will not discuss the finesse or otherwise of being a witness, nor all the issues (and there are quite serious ones) with witness theology/belief. There is a forum for that. We could continue the debate elsewhere if you so wish. FG |
To Cloud7: Do not regurgitate hearsay. None of what you write is correct. FG |
From a Witness in non-active status: Give it time, don't rush. Witness indoctrination is very deep and hard to uproot. And no, do not convert simply to marry her. If you give it some time, one of two things will happen: (1) your differences will be so much that you will drift apart naturally; or (2) she will decide that your relationship is worth keeping, and may accept to go against the grain. In an overwhelming number of cases, (1) is valid. Yes, some witnesses have opted to marry outside the fold - but they are considered "weak" and "immature". Generally, they are not seen as good company among the witnesses. If, however, the witness has "apostate" tendencies (as defined by the witnesses, in other words if s/he is capable of and willing to think outside the witness enclosure (box)) and does not hold her belief to be the only "truth", has an open mind), then, just then, it might be possible. One last thing: don't try to convert her to your religion either. Witnesses treat all other religious groups as belonging to "Babylon the Great". All the best. FG |
Fact is some people simply are born with strong gay inclinations and want little or nothing to do with the opposite sex. I have had a couple of gay friends (men, women) who were some of the kindest people I have ever met. That someone is gay does not necessarily make him/her evil. Of course from the biblical viewpoint, homosexuality is a sin (no worse than fornication and adultery, drunkenness, greed) and I would add, far more benign than murder and other heinous crimes. |
Many who have made negative comments about the airport miss the point. About 80% of Calabar airport patronage is from Akwa Ibom State. The Uyo airport will give them a fair alternative to going to Calabar on a terrible federal road (yes, federal. It is Abuja's responsibility to fix that road - and it takes three to four hours to travel the 80 odd kilometers to get to Calabar, depending on weather conditions, not counting the threat of armed robbery). I am writing from experience. Building the airport is one of the more forward-thinking things that the past and current administration in the state have done. Moreover, as someone rightly pointed out, it hosts an MRO facility which, hopefully, will help Nigeria(ns) save some money and acquire technical skills. Are the people right to be happy? Who is to judge? If happiness is seeing an aircraft land and takeoff for the first time and being able to tell the story to one's folk, why not? Perhaps most of those present may never fly, but that does not prevent them from sharing the moment. You need not walk on the moon to be happy it shines! |
