Vice president Yemi Osinbajo has shared that only a few countries in the world can claim to have a low level of corruption and none of them are Africa.

According to Fatima Waziri-Azi, the Special Adviser to the President on Rule of Law, Office of the Vice President, who represented Osinbajo at the launch of the FLAG’IT App, it doesn’t matter how much revenue a country generates, corruption will ensure that majority of the people do not benefit from whatever gains are made.

“The 2019 Global Corruption Barometer on African citizens’ views and experiences of corruption highlights that while most of the people surveyed in 35 countries felt that corruption had increased in their country, a majority equally felt that they, as citizens, could make a difference in the fight against corruption.

“Only a few countries in the world can claim to have a low level of corruption and none of these countries is in Africa.

“It doesn’t matter how much revenue a country generates or how transformed it is or how progressive its plans, corruption will ensure that majority of the people do not benefit from whatever gains are made, which is why despite the highest oil revenues in our history, debt doubled and poverty figures rose. This is why the major pillar of this administration’s socio-economic agenda is the fight against corruption”

Oghenekaro Etebo has withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad that will face South American giants Brazil in an international friendly match on Sunday, October 13, in Singapore.

The 23-year-old who currently plays for Stoke City, wasn't given entry visa to Singapore which prevented him from traveling.
Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr is expected to miss the former Warri Wolves midfielder who has been in superb form since he came into the national team.

Founder and CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, has revealed that he will be visiting Nigeria and three other African countries in November. Dorsey announced this in a post shared on Twitter, where he stated that he is headed to Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia and Ghana in the coming month.

The Twitter CEO also shared a photos of himself with African entrepreneurs and stated that he will be spending even more time with entrepreneurs when he touches down Africa.
Twitter was launched in 2006 and rapidly gained worldwide popularity. In 2012, more than 100 million users posted 340 million tweets a day and a year after that it emerged as one of the top-ten most visited websites in the world.
It is said that over 90 million Nigerians have access to the internet and a huge percentage are ardent social media users. This is probably why Nigeria is known as the third most active country of Twitter, with lawmakers and political leaders signing up and releasing press statements on the platform.
Bearing that in mind, it is exciting times as Dorsey is set to visit Nigeria in November and the news couldn't be more excitedly received by his fans.

Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen has been named in French Ligue 1 team of the week, reports Completesports.com.


Osimhen scored Lille’s second goal in their 2-2 home draw against Nimes last Sunday.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that he would his best to carry all Nigerians along during this last tenure.
He made this known on Wednesday, October 9, as he received some ministers who served with him when he was the military head of state between 1984 and 1985.
According to a statement signed by his media aide, Femi Adesina, he also applauded the military for making Abuja the capital of the country.
During the meeting also, there was a minute silence for those who had passed on among the ministers that served under him when he was a military administrator.
President Buhari also appreciated the ministers for how they have always “consistently” being in “touch”.
Professor Ibrahim Gambari, the former minister of external affairs, who also led the team, said that they have come to congratulate the president on what he has achieved in areas of security, anti-corruption, education, foreign affairs, among others.
Gambari also spoke about the opportunity the president gave them to serve without interference even though his leadership was firm.
“We were appointed 35 years and nine months ago. Eighteen of us were sworn in. Your leadership was firm, but you also gave us free hand to operate. You knew what each person was doing. We will never forget the opportunity you gave us. We remain patriots,” he said.

Kylian Mbappe has withdrawn from France national team duty due to an injury setback, the France federation has confirmed.

Mbappe will miss his side's upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Iceland on Friday and against Turkey on Monday.

"After having spoken with the player, who was following a protocol of recovery since Monday, and Franck Le Gall, the doctor of the French team, [France manager[] Didier Deschamps decided to return the player to his club, Paris Saint-Germain," a statement from the French federation read.

Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has appealed to the Federal Government to allow the Yoruba and Igbo people to leave Nigeria.

The former minister expressed that Nigeria is making it difficult for people who want to leave Nigeria, the same way the European Union is blocking Britain from leaving the union.

He challenged the federal government to conduct a referendum to determine who stays or leaves the country.

The report on the investigation of the killing of three Police officers in Taraba state by some Army personnel have been released

The Nigerian Army and the Police were both indicted in the report - According to the recommendations of the board of inquiry on the matter, there were infractions and poor communication between personnel of the Nigeria Police and troops of the Nigerian Army The panel of inquiry investigating the killing of three Police officers in a botched rescue effort of Hamisu Bala a suspected kidnapper popularly known as Wadume on the orders of an Army captain has released its report.

The report of the board of inquiry was contained in a statement sent by the Defence Headquarters and signed by the director of defence information, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu on Tuesday, October 8.

The report which followed a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari on the incident which took place along Ibi-Wukari Road in Taraba state on August 6. In its report, the seven-member BOI led by Rear Admiral Ibikunle Taiwo Olaiya with representatives each from the Defence Headquarters, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Defence Intelligence Agency, Nigeria Police and Department of State Service said there were infractions and poor communication between personnel of the Nigeria Police and troops of the Nigerian Army.

The report stating that there was non-adherence to the Standard Operating Procedure by both parties involved in the incident also urged that the Army and the Police further investigate Captain Tijani Balarabe, Sergeant Ibrahim Mohammed, Corporal Bartholomew Obanye, DCO Ibi Police Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police Aondoona Iorbee, and Inspector Aliyu Dadje for complacency and necessary disciplinary measures. The panel in its recommendation called for a further and precise investigation on Hamisu Bala for gunrunning and possible kidnapping, in order to prosecute the suspect.

"The report said: "Additionally, the BOI recommended that the Services and other security agencies establish an Interagency Liaison Desk to include senior officers for timely resolution of future Misdemeanor."

"The Defence Headquarters once again assures the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies are working in synergy to tackle contemporary security challenges be-deviling the nation," the report added.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has directed the Governing Council of the Rivers State University to continue with the suspended employment exercise for academic and non academic staff.

Commissioning the Rivers State University Students Union Building on Monday at the school premises, Governor Wike said that he was compelled to suspend the exercise because of the negative issues that bedevilled it.

He said: "I suspended the process for the employment exercise due to the issues that emanated from it. The committee that I set up to investigate the process has turned in its report.

"I am satisfied with the report of the committee. Therefore, I have informed the Pro-Chancellor to go ahead with the employment exercise ".

Governor Wike said unlike other leaders, he has never interfered with admission and employment processes of any institution in the state. He said his transparent approach to administration gives him the moral power to discipline erring officials.

The Governor approved the construction of an ultra-modern Senate Building for the Rivers State University. He said that if the Pro-Chancellor and Acting Vice Chancellor make the design available on time, the building would be completed by the first anniversary of his second term.

He called on the Students Union Leadership to use the new facility to fight cultism, harrassment of female students and examination malpractices.

Governor Wike urged the Acting Vice Chancellor to be firm and ensure that the University continues to move forward.

Pro-Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Justice Iche Ndu said the completion of the Students Unions Building is the sixth major project completed by Governor Wike in the institution.

He assured the Rivers State Governor that the Governing Council and Management of the institution will work towards making the State University, a world class institution.

The Pro-Chancellor appealed to students to use the new building to fight vices. He said that the University should be a centre of learning.

Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Opuenebo described the delivery of fbe building as a milestone in the annals of students unionism.

She said: "This is a milestone in the annals of students unionism. It gives the students a sense of belonging as major stakeholders ".

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of Bureau of Special Projects, Mr Sunday Okere said the magnificent building was constructed and equipped by Governor Wike.

President of the Students Union Government of the Rivers State University, Comrade Precious Pepple said that Rivers people re-elected Governor Wike because they want him to execute more projects for them.

Highpoint of the occasion was the presentation of an Appreciation Award to the Rivers State Governor by President National Union of Rivers State Students, NURSS, Comrade Patrick Ogbuehi.

The Network of International Human Rights Organisations and Coalitions say it may soon adopt detained Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore, as a “Prisoner of Conscience”.

The Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC) said on Monday in Lagos that it was working with renowned rights groups across the world to ensure that Sowore was adopted as a Prisoner of Conscience
unless the Federal Government releases the activist without further delay.

They also expressed shock that the Nigerian authorities were making frivolous charges against Sowore who had been in custody since Aug. 5.
The group also called for the release of Olawale Bakare, a member of #RevolutionNow arrested in Osogbo, Osun, on Aug. 5, Publisher of Cross River Watch, Mr Agba Jalingo and Ekanem Ekpo. The last two were arrested by the police and have yet to be taken to court.
“The continued detention of Sowore is an embarrassment to Nigeria as a country. Everywhere we visit across the world, people are asking questions about Sowore’s detention.

“Many people do not understand the logic of laying charges of treason against Sowore simply because he used the word revolution.

“His incarceration continues to put a question mark on the credibility of the Nigerian government. Democracy dies when the culture of debate and the tradition of protest are lost,” the group said in a statement by CSNAC Chairman, Mr Olanrewaju Suraju,

CSNAC said the Nigerian government had beyond imaginations embarrassed itself by charging Sowore for “insulting the President”.

“It is even more ridiculous that he is being charged for insulting Mr President and also for money laundering where money was legitimately transferred through the financial institutions.

“These are frivolous charges aimed at seeking justification for his illegal arrest and continuous detention.”

CSNAC said from indications, the Nigerian government was desperate to press charges against Sowore and ensure he is jailed at all cost.

Suraju said Sowore was being hunted in part, due to series of publications in Sahara Reporters that consistently exposed corrupt practices in this and previous governments.

“Sowore is obviously a victim of vengeance. Corrupt politicians and security chiefs whose dirty deals have consistently been exposed by Sahara Reporters are looking for ways to settle scores. They think by
bringing down Sowore, Sahara Reporters will die.

“Its an illusion to think by keeping Sowore in jail, Sahara Reporters would be off the global network. This is a mistake because Sahara Reporters has assumed the status of an independent entity,” he said.

CSNAC also dismissed the charge of money laundering by the Department of State Security, (DSS), saying it was an attempt to blackmail Sahara Reporters and its publisher.

Sowore was arrested on Aug. 5 in Lagos and the Federal Government obtained an ex-parte order granting his detention for 45 days.

After keeping him for almost two months, he was charged for insulting President Mohammadu Buhari during a life programme on AriseTV. The government also accused him of treason.

He was also charged for transferring the sun of $19,975 from his personal account to Sahara Reporters.
