PoliticsShi’ite Protest: IGP Places Aigs, Cps In FCT, Neighbouring States On Red Alert by Flashyoil1(op): 7:01am On Jul 10, 2019
The INSPECTOR-GENERAL Mohammed Adamu yesterday placed Assistant Inspector General of Police and Commissioners of Police in the Federal Capital Terriotry (FCT) and neighbouring states on red alert.

IG Adamu said the action became imperative following the violent protest by Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzakky sympathisers at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The protest, which left nine police personnel injured, also led to the destruction of vehicles and other valuable items.

The IG directive was contained in a statement by the Force spokesman, Frank Mba, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

It reads: “The Commissioners of Police and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police in states contiguous to the FCT were also placed on the alert to ensure maximum security in their respective Areas of responsibility (AOR) to avert any possible breach of public safety and security.

“The IG also directed the AIG in charge of Police Medical Department to ensure that proper and prompt medical attention is given to the injured officers and wished the victims quick recovery.

“The police chief while noting that the Force is not against citizens expressing their grouse against the State, stressed that such ventilations must be done through legitimate and acceptable processes and not by taking the laws into their own hands.

“He warned citizens not to test the collective will of the People and the State by engaging in lawless acts likely to cause the breach of the peace.”

The IG also ordered a speedy and diligent investigation into the incident as well as prompt prosecution of all the persons arrested and now in Police custody in connection with the incident.

Adamu reiterated his displeasure with the unwarranted and unjustifiable attack on, and injury to nine police officers by members of the protesters and commended the restraint, maturity and professionalism displayed by Police personnel in containing the protest.

The FCT Police Command confirmed that nine of its personnel were injured during the invasion of the National Assembly by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

Two of the policemen were shot. Seven others were injured. The police arrested 40 members of the group.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, in a statement in Abuja, said the protesters started in a peaceful procession but later became violent and attempted to force their way into the National Assembly.

Ciroma said his men acted proactively and professionally by using minimum force to disperse the protesters.

On the casualty figure, Ciroma said: “Members of the sect during the violent protest shot two police personnel in the leg while clubs and stones were used to inflict injuries on seven other policemen.”

He added that the injured policemen had been taken to an undisclosed hospital.

Recognising the right of citizens to peaceful procession, the Command stated that it would not tolerate an attempt by any individual or group of persons to cause the breakdown of law and order.

PoliticsElisha Abbo: Reactions As Remi Tinubu Makes Panel by Flashyoil1(op): 7:05pm On Jul 09, 2019
Nigerians are not buying the whole drama as Mrs. Tinubu becomes more important than the case at hand. Nigerians are of the opinion that the panel is partial since Mrs. Tinubu once slapped a male senator in the House, therefore shouldn't have made it to the panel since her own character is also in question.

It could also be said that Mrs. Tinubu brought it upon herself because, what she did was highly unprofessional and not of part the duty the panel asked to her to carryout

Below are some reactions gathered

PoliticsBuhari Govt Reveals New Method To Fight Corruption by Flashyoil1(op): 7:40pm On Jul 04, 2019
The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) of the Buhari government says it is working on an alternative approach towards the fight against corruption by using non conviction based assets forfeiture regime.

PACAC Executive Secretary, Prof. Sadiq Radda, disclosed this while speaking at an Anti-corruption Agencies Strengthening Initiative Project meeting and launch organised by Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) in Abuja on Thursday.

He said government was committed to the anti-corruption fight, NAN reports.

“Fighting corruption is a duty that must be done with the collaboration of everybody and the government is serious in continuing to fight corruption in its second regime.

“The only thing that might be different is the approach, this is because we have had our frustration using the legal system, it is very slow, sometimes it is rewarding other times not very rewarding.

“Therefore, we are likely to see the use of non conviction base asset forfeiture regime in which the anti-corruption agencies will go after the property not the individual,’’ he said.

According to Radda, if government goes after the property, there will be quietness from the human rights community, no civil right issues, no serious constitutional issues and the onus of proof will now shift from government to the person.

This, he said would make the fight against corruption to be more innovative with more momentum adding that the committee was working with other anti-graft agencies for a more coordinated effort.

Mr Kole Shettima, a member of CDD Governing Council said that the issue of coordination is a very critical factor in anti-corruption fight that remains a challenge to all anti-graft agencies.

“You see it in our intelligence services that is why you have some of the problems we are having; different agencies claim superiority over each other, so no coordinated strategy to prevent the problem from happening.

“So that is why we are very excited in some ways that this meeting is happening because stakeholders have come together to have a working plan.

“That for me is the beginning of the kind of coordination that needs to happen because if all the agencies have similar work plan knowing what the other person is doing corruption would be minimised,’’ he said.

Shettima urged all agencies to set aside their claim about mandate or independence and egos to collaborate so the country would not suffer.

Mr Abdulrahman Mustapha, Associate Director of Intelligence, Investigation Support and CTR Analysis Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) stressed the need for strengthening inter-agency collaboration.

“Nigeria is not an Island, we work in a global committee of nations; one key thing is that even in your house, if you do not agree with your spouse, things will not get done; so there has to be an agreement, everybody has to focus on what the mission is.

“The agencies have different levels of understanding, they have been found to be bickering over who is going to prosecute what, but these things cannot happen individually; crime affects virtually everybody.

“People look at crime as a global thing so we should not be looking at it as individual thing but collectively and everybody has his own role to do because what is raw material to you will be a finished product to someone else,’’ he said.

Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) expressed concern over duplication of cases by anti-graft agencies adding that it result in wastage of millions of government’s resources.

PoliticsRuga Project: Northern Governors’ Forum Calls For Calm Over Suspension by Flashyoil1(op): 3:40pm On Jul 04, 2019
The Northern Governors’ Forum has urged all stakeholders, especially in the North, to remain calm and be democratic in expressing their views on the suspended Ruga settlement project by the Federal Government.

The Forum Chairman and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, made the appeal in a statement he issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

Lalong urged all stakeholders to be democratic in their views while allowing the government to handle the matter.

He said that the forum was already reaching out to major stakeholders particularly in the North, after receiving the position of the leadership of the Coalition of Northern Groups.

Lalong said “We have acknowledged the varied responses that have been coming in throughout the hours after the announcement of the suspension which we see as part of the beauty of democracy.

“This allows citizens to participate in shaping and moderating the functions of government with regards to matters of public interest.

“Meanwhile, we urge all stakeholders and all shades of interested parties, especially from the North, to remain calm and air their views democratically and decently while allowing the government (the) chance to handle the matter.

“In the meantime, we are happy to announce that we are reaching out engagement with major stakeholders in the matter particularly in the North.

“This is after receiving the position of the leadership of the Coalition of Northern Groups with the hope of getting the public to fully understand the whole concept and the wisdom behind the decision by the government.

“We acknowledge here the Coalition’s concerns and in particular, its decency in urging the northern people to remain civil and resist the temptation to be drawn into anything untoward.

“We are reassured that the leadership of the Coalition is genuinely and responsibly concerned with the betterment of the whole nation and with the well-being of the Northern region and people in particular and that it will continue to work for calm and understanding,” Lalong said.

The governor assured that at the end of the day, what was coming out of the suspension would turn out to be more beneficial and in the best interest of the whole nation.

“We are working on a complete package that comes with multi-sectoral and multidimensional benefits that will serve the interests of all both in the short and long terms,” he said.

TV/MoviesBbnaija: Tacha Emerges Winner Of Day 3 Challenge by Flashyoil1(op): 4:08pm On Jul 03, 2019
Big Brother sure has a lot of games and challenges in store for the housemates to last them the whole 3 months. The day 3 challenge was quite interesting but it was for the female housemates alone.

Biggy asked the ladies to all sit round the big table (dinning table) while each guy stood behind a lady. The ladies were then given bowls of needles and

Each bowl contained 15 needles and they were asked to put in threads into each needle in the bowl. While at it, the guys stood behind them and were singing out loud in order to distract them so they get confused and fail in the task.

Each lady tried as much as she could to put in her full concentration on the task despite the distractions from the loud singing from the guys.

The person who finished fixing the threads in the needle first would emerge winner, and after long minutes of struggling and competing, Tacha emerged winner as she was the first to complete the task.

With more challenges coming their way from Biggy, we are sure the housemates would brace up the more because everyone wants to be a winner.

PoliticsPatience Jonathan Takes Action Over Court Ruling On N12.2bn by Flashyoil1(op): 6:10pm On Jul 02, 2019
Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan on Tuesday appealed the forfeiture of her N12.2billion to the Federal Government.

Jonathan prayed the Court of Appeal in Lagos to set aside the judgment of Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Jonathan, through her counsel Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), said the judge erred in law by ordering the final forfeiture when she had no jurisdiction to do so.

Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday ordered the final forfeiture of the 8.4 million dollars and N7.4 billion found in accounts linked to a former First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

The order was given by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, who held that the money is reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

The court granted an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that the money should be permanently forfeited to the government.

PoliticsBetween Aisha Buhari And Patience Jonathan, Nigerians Say First Lady Is A Bigger by Flashyoil1(op): 1:54pm On Jul 02, 2019
Arising as a fallout from the prosecution of Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan and drive for her to forfeit about N8.4 billion linked to her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigerians appear not to be too comfortable with the drive and have decided to compare her with Aisha Buhari, wife of President Buhari.

A Federal High Court Lagos had on March 13, fixed April 12, to hear oral evidence in a suit by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, seeking final forfeiture of about 8.4 million dollars, and N7.4 billion linked to the former first Lady, Patience Jonathan.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun had in a ruling delivered on Feb.28, on the motion for final forfeiture, held that there were conflicting affidavit evidence, which could be best resolved if respective parties were called upon to give oral evidence.
The case was consequently, adjourned until March 13 (today) for oral evidence.

Nigerians on twitter are however comparing both first ladies, saying both Aisha Buhari is even more corrupt than Patience. A few of their reactions using the hashtag #Aisha Buhari monitored by Opera News are collated below:

Let’s drag patience Jonathan all day long and compare her to abacha no problem. But we should not forget that Aisha Buhari‘s ADC was involved in a fraud of 2.5 billion naira. History always have a way of rewriting itself.

Think before you tweet. Aisha Buhari wants to raise funds to build a public institution to be owned by the govt, Patience Jonathan has billions in unexplained loot in her bank accounts. Not comparable. If you want to attack AB, base it on her personal assets not her public works.

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, has just issued a denial of news which had made media rounds earlier in the day as regards the much-anticipated ministerial list.

“My Twitter account is a verified one. Whoever wants to know what I have said should go to it, not to a fake one. I have no breaking news on the appointment of ministers because I have not been briefed about it.

“Ignore the report they are attributing to me, please,” Shehu tweeted.
