The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has written a letter to the Clerk of the Senate, demanding the receipts, cash books and documents of the contracts of the Office of the President of the 8th Senate led by Bukola Saraki. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has written a letter to the Clerk of the Senate, demanding the receipts, cash books and documents of the contracts of the Office of the President of the 8th Senate led by Bukola Saraki. The EFCC, in a letter signed by the Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, said it was investigating cases of conspiracy, stealing and money laundering. In the letter with reference number CR: 3000/EFCC/ABJ/CMU/SAK/Vol1/168, the commission asked the clerk to also attach any other information that might assist the anti-graft agency in its investigation. The probe is different from the one involving Saraki’s eight-year tenure as governor of Kwara State. The letter titled, ‘Investigation activities. Re: Office of the President of the Senate, read in part, “This commission is investigating a case of conspiracy, stealing and money laundering in which the need to obtain certain clarification in respect of transaction carried out in the above mentioned office has become imperative. “In view of the above, you are kindly requested to avail us with the certified true copies of the following: All cash books, payment vouchers, contract award letters, evidence of contract bidding, agreement and certificate of contract completion from 2015 till date. “Certified true copies of all financial retirement made within the same period and any other information that may assist the commission in its investigation.” The letter, it was learnt, was what prompted Saraki to approach the Federal High Court, Abuja, claiming his human rights were being abused. Justice Taiwo Taiwo, in turn, granted an ex parte order restraining the commission and five other agencies of the Federal Government from continuing the investigations into certain corruption allegations against Saraki. The former Senate President said in a letter addressed to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Abdu-Kafarati, that the bureaucracy of the National Assembly was in charge of approving contracts and not the office of the Senate President. He wrote, “My Lord, in the National Assembly, the presiding officers or the political leadership does not handle contract awards or financial matters of the federal legislature. The bureaucracy, that is the body we call National Assembly Management, does. Read more here https://thickmatch.com/saraki-efcc-writes-senate-clerk-demands-receipts-contracts-documents/

I Want to Use this medium to Regret ever being a citizen of Nigeria, we behave like illiterates most times, how can almost all the Nigeria celebrities buy the story of rape from a woman who just claim she was raped at 16 and had never made any effort in letting anyone know about it. Nigeria celebrities think they can just bring someone down with the little followers they have in medias. The only time you can easily believe this woman story is when u never tested the effect of false allegations. As for me I believe that all Timidakolo's wife said was all lies, she lied to protect how husband claims what else could it be that a married Nigerian lady will come out in public to say she was rape by a famous pastor. Before anyone believe this kind of story without evidence of rape and how the pastor had made effort to suppress the truth from coming out, but yet the young lady raped had all ball at her court and refused to do something until the man became famous and she thinks is her best time to strike and people just believe such story without looking back. Look at how many famous people that have being dealt with in the past with same allegation look at RKelly, MJ, CR7 nyamer, and many others. It should be harder for her to convince us to believe because only going to live TV to say she was rape at 16 isn't sufficient to prove rape. Before one make such claim u have to come out with sufficient evidence and not rubbish assertion. How can we believe that she is saying the truth when her husband had issues with the pastor before coming to tell us she was raped by same pastor. |

Proceedings ended unexpectedly on Wednesday before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) owing to the request by lawyer to Atiku Abubakar and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chris Uche (SAN) for an adjournment to enable his clients react to the responses filed against a fresh motion by Atiku and the PDP. Atiku and his party are challenging the outcome of the last presidential election before the tribunal. Although they came second behind President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), they claimed to have won based on some results they gleaned from a central server purportedly utilized by the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to transmit the result of the election. At the resumption of proceedings on Wednesday, the petitioners were expected to exhibit zeal in the pursuit of their petition, but their lawyer took all by surprise when he prayed the tribunal for an adjournment to enable them file replies-on-point-of-law to the respondents’ replies to the petitioners’ fresh motion seeking to quash the proceedings conducted on June 11, 2019 by the tribunal. Ruling, PEPT’s Chairman, Justice Mohammed Garba said the tribunal would prefer to conclude the hearing of all pending applications/motions before delving into other businesses in relation to the petition. Justice Garba adjourned till July 1, 2019 for the hearing of the fresh motion by the petitioners and the consideration of any other pre-hearing issues. In the fresh motion filed on June 18, 2019 Atku and the PDP are praying the tribunal to set aside its proceedings of June 11, 2019 during which it accepted as undefended, an application filed by the APC, in which the party sought the striking out of the petition on the grounds that it was defective. In a ruling on June 11, 2019 the tribunal held the petitioners failed to file the required counter-affidavit against the application by the APC and recorded the application as unchallenged. It is that ruling that Atiku and the PDP, by their fresh motion, want the tribunal to set aside, a request the respondents have also opposed with their various counter applications, some of which Uhce said were served on him late, and in respect of which he sought an adjournment to enable his team reply. In the application accepted by the tribunal as undefended, the APC wants the tribunal to dismiss the petition by Atiku and the PDP, or alternatively, strike out several paragraphs that were not supported by facts and laws. Indigenes of Ntoko community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State have accused the factional monarch of Awka community, Igwe Austin Ndigwe, of land grabbing. Indigenes of the community, who took a protest to the Anambra State Government House on Monday, blocked the gate calling on the state governor, Willie Obiano, to wade into the illegal acquisition of their land by the monarch. The protesters, numbering over 100, carried placards conveying their displeasure, claiming that Ndigwe who is one of the two monarchs in Awka has illegally appropriated part of their community land to himself. Some of the placards wielded by the protesters read, “Austin Ndigwe leave our land alone, stop this your terror on our people, Austin Ndigwe, release our people you arrested, please, Governor Willie Obiano come to our rescue”. Speaking with reporters, leader of the protesting community, Mr Vincent Ike said, “The People of Ntoko community have over the years been troubled by the disorderliness conduct of Austine Ndigwe, and the forceful takeover of Ntoko Land. “He had continued to threaten the Community illegally, and claimed ownership of our community lands, and had continued to hijack some property belonging to the sons and daughters of the community. “Anybody that dared to challenge his actions is always made to receive the beating of his life by the miscreants and hoodlums he uses to execute his wickedness”. The Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Security, Safety and Emergency, Chikodi Anarah, who addressed the protesters, assured them that the government would not allow them suffer any harassment or intimidation from any person or group. A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Timi Frank, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the APC of resorting to outright harassment and blackmail of Nigerian judges to do their bidding. Frank alleged that Buhari was currently plotting to appoint five new Supreme Court judges who will eventually be part of the panel to determine the presidential election petition appeal “the same way it did at the Appeal Court”. He however expressed confidence in the nation’s Supreme Court justices, saying the highest court in the country remains credible and truly the last hope of the common man. Frank was reacting to the Appeal Court judgement which denied the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar access to inspect the controversial server of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, used for the 2019 election. The former APC chieftain said this in a statement he signed and made available to Us on Tuesday. He claimed that the government of Buhari “has resorted to using various security agencies to openly intimidate some of the judges into doing its bidding”. The Bayelsa-born political activist cited media reports quoting the President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Paul Usoro, who declared that judges are afraid of performing their duties as expected due to fear and intimidation from the executive arm of government. Frank’s statement added, “We are informing Nigerians that even the ruling of the Appeal Court was long written according to a script handed down by the ruling APC, but Nigerians respect and believe in the Supreme Court. “We hope that the Supreme Court, which is the last hope of all oppressed Nigerians will summon courage to stand by the people and decide the present appeal based on the overwhelming evidence before the court and the verdict of credible local and international organisations like the European Union, National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI), among others.” The statement cautioned the judges to bear in mind that they are Nigerians as well and that they will all retire one day. “The good thing is that the law of justice has never failed no matter how long. Those who succumb to pressure to do evil now should not forget that the repercussions of such evil collusion will ultimately catch up with them in future – directly or indirectly. “Nigerians are patiently waiting for Atiku to rescue them from the shackles of insecurity, hunger, unemployment, directionless government and government of cabals,” Frank stated. The Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed his position regarding recommendations for the establishment of state police to confront the growing spate of insecurity in the country. Speaking during a Radio Nigeria programme, RADIO LINK, which was monitored by Us at the weekend, Ikpeazu opined that State Policing would help in combating myriads of insecurities threatening the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria. The governor said, “State Police is the way to go. I support it 100 per cent. Security has a lot to do with intelligence gathering. And, this is best achieved when the security agencies understand the terrain very well. Criminals live amongst us. They don’t come from the moon. Community policing will help check the increase in criminal activities across the country. “When the Police Force is peopled by those who come from the locality, it becomes way to manage the situation better. This is why in places like the US, there is no centralized police system and they have made a huge success of it. The fear of Governors using it against their opponents is unfounded. Why should we be afraid of a situation we have not tested? ” Ikpeazu added, “If a baby on his mother’s back is afraid of the ground, that baby will never walk, talk less of running. The misuse of power is an abstract concept. Power is taken for good, not for evil. Besides, power is temporary. No Governor will remain in office beyond eight years. Four years from now, I will no longer be a Governor. “The issue of funding of the State Police won’t be a problem because all we need do is to recalibrate the revenue allocation system in such a way that whatever is used to fund the Police currently will be given to states for the same purpose. It is strange that a Governor who runs a state does not have any control over security issues in his state. If as a Governor, you have a Police Commissioner who wants to be difficult, you are helpless. We can’t make progress that way.” It was reported that a presidential panel on the reform of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), had recommended the establishment of State and Local government police to curb the insecurity in the country. The panel, chaired by the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission(NHRC), Tony Ojukwu, said the establishment would assist in addressing the security challenges in Nigeria. John Odigie-Oyegun, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused his successor, Adams Oshiomhole of distracting the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki from governance. He alleged that Oshiomhole was engaging in anti-party activities to create distractions for Obaseki. Reacting to the decision of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) on the crisis rocking the House of Assembly, Oyegun accused Oshiomhole of heightening the tension in Edo State with his activities against the governor. In a statement by his Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Ray Murphy, the former APC National Chairman said the governor should be allowed to concentrate on presiding over the affairs of the state. The statement reads: “This party must be stronger because we cannot go into the 2023 general elections with these discordant tunes, especially as President Buhari will not be contesting. We need to get our acts together. Oyegun has no personal grievances with Oshiomhole but Nigerians must know that he cannot go to equity with unclean hands “Today, there are all kinds of rancour coming from Edo State. They all boil down to attempt by godfather and godfatherism that is heating up the polity in the state. Obaseki is the executive governor of Edo State and he should be allowed to exercise the powers vested on him by the law. To what purpose is this idea of the APC chairman putting the state under tension? “As a governor under the APC platform, he should be allowed to run out his tenure before they decide whether to bring him back or not. There are so much antics going on and you don’t need to be a prophet or Babalawo (diviner) to trace where they are coming from. They are coming from the APC. “I want to think that they are all targeted at weakening the governor of Edo State. Ordinarily, the man in Edo should be given every support so that he can succeed to fend off the opposition PDP already around the corner. “Ask anybody from Edo State what is Obaseki’s biggest distraction and they will tell you that his distraction is not whether he has governed well or not, but from his immediate predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole. “It is very unfortunate, especially considering the fact that he is the national chairman of the same party with the governor. I have not heard that PDP or Edo leaders want to remove Obaseki. What has been trending is how his predecessor who happens to be the party chairman does want him back in the office. “If his actions against Obaseki are not anti-party, someone should then explain to me what is anti-party. The problem of the APC is from a singular man, the national chairman who runs the party like an executive chairman. The idea of working singlehanded and inducing the party members to endorse is the problem of the party. “Look at what is happening in the party today. When was the last time the NEC meeting was held? But when these crises came to the fore, he has called several emergency NWC meetings.” Read more here https://thickmatch.com/apc-crisis-oshiomhole-engaging-anti-party-activities-oyegun/
