Prof. Itse Sagay, SAN, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, has described the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu as a “very weak man” who lacks initiative. Sagay said this while lambasting the INEC Chairman over plans to register more political parties, ahead of the 2023 general election. He accused Yakubu of not being proactive and collapses easily under problems. Speaking with Independent, the PACAC Chairman insisted that the INEC chairman only articulates problems without any solutions while waiting for somebody else to do it for him. According to Sagay: “Well, I think INEC is to blame for all these. A body like INEC should be proactive. When they found that the whole thing was getting out of hand with 91 parties, they should have done something about it. “I myself with my level of education find it very difficult to identify my party logo out of the 73 political parties that contested in the presidential election. Now, INEC is talking of 200 and they are just saying it without thinking of what to do about it so that we don’t get to that level. “Shouldn’t INEC now through the government propose an amendment to the provisions of the constitution for registration of political parties? “That is what INEC should be talking of. They should get their lawyers to draft a document and send it to the Ministry of Justice so that the conditions for registration can be made more drastic and at the end, we won’t have more than 10 political parties. “For me, it’s all a sign of INEC’s weakness which has been a serious problem particularly in these 2019 elections as against the one in 2015 when we had a chairman of INEC who knew what he was doing. “The current INEC chairman is a very weak man and doesn’t have any initiative. He is not proactive and collapses easily under problems and just articulates the problems without any solutions while waiting for somebody else to do it for him.” See more here https://thickmatch.com/inec-chairman-mahmood-yakubu-weak-man-lacks-initiative-sagay/

Kelechi Iheanacho won’t be replacing Samuel Kalu in the Super Eagles squad for AFCON 2019 after Kalu was certified fit to play by the medical team of the Confederation of Africa Football ( CAF). Kalu slumped during yesterday’s training session and was rushed to the hospital where it was confirmed that he suffered from dehydration and not a heart attack as widely reported by some media outlets. Although he has been passed fit to play, coach of the Nigerian team Gernot Rohr has omitted him from his starting lineup for the opening game against Burundi later today , Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal. Iheanacho who was dropped from the squad for the tournament was placed on standby for Kalu if the test results proved he can’t play in the tournament. Team officials already contacted the Leicester City forward to get set to join the team. The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State, has advised the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to look inward and repair its damaged relationship with the people, instead of blaming its current woes on the rival party. In a statement released in Ado Ekiti by the Director of Media and Publicity of All Progressive Congress, (APC) Elder Sam Oluwalana on Friday, APC said PDP’s relevance in Ekiti today “is at an all-time low and will continue with its free fall until it atones for its many sins against the people in the state.” “In order to regain some level of relevance and trust from the people of the state, you are advised to regard your party as the biblical prodigal son, accept failure for your four years of misrule and beg the people for forgiveness,” Elder Oluwalana told PDP. According to him, “a situation whereby PDP is blaming its woes on APC is an erroneous one. Worse still, the opposition is lamenting that the APC has been scheming it out of the political equation in Ekiti state by giving appointments to some of its members. How low can a party go in its frustration!” APC, Oluwalana said, “is running an all-inclusive administration and knows neither PDP nor any other party when it comes to restoring the people’s values.” The party spokesman further noted that “the rumours engineered by the opposition party, blaming the ruling party in the state for depleting its ranks by luring its members with promises of juicy appointments and contracts is nothing but failure to admit its many wrongs and do the needful. “The PDP administration led by Fayose had the opportunity to make the people happy, but it failed them. And since 14 July 2018 when the people of Ekiti state refused to continue in the journey to penury designed for them by Mr Ayo Fayose and decided to bid farewell to his mis-governance, the PDP ought to have known that its end had come. “The coffin was further nailed for the opposition party by the election tribunal and the other competent Courts of law, set up to look into the grievances arising from the election up to the highest court in the land, Supreme Court which further gave affirmation to the wish of the people and final death verdict for the PDP in the state. “It is no surprise that the hitherto government in power which held the people of Ekiti state by the jugular, is now being taunted and haunted by its past misdeeds and now being taught what good governance is about.” Oluwalana, who also doubles as the SSA Party Matters to Governor Kayode Fayemi, said with what accrued to the the immediate past administration from internal and external sources, Ekiti by now ought to have exited the poor states club, but the selfishness and gluttonous tendencies of Fayose robbed the state of the feat. “Where are the several billions of naira from the Paris club refund to the state? What of the monthly allocation which was more than enough to pay workers salaries, but which Fayose and PDP chose to deprive them of? “Rather than embracing good governance, Fayose preferred to be the spokesman of the opposition in Nigeria that saw nothing good in the APC controlled Federal Government,” he said. Oluwalana further pointed out that now that the people of Ekiti can sleep with their two eyes closed, having entrusted the wealth of the state in the hand of a pragmatic, consummate and caring leader in person of Dr Fayemi, they need nobody to confuse them about how the state should be otherwise governed. “Today, the end has come to fake bank alerts for civil servants and compulsory levies in public schools. Also, commercial activities are fully back in the state, with the return of banks and other entities that were hurled out of the state by Fayose’s harsh tax regime,” Oluwalana noted. Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), Ekiti chapter, has appealed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila to order the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) to withhold payment of salaries and allowances to lawmaker representing Ekiti North federal constituency I, Hon. Kehinde Agboola. CNPP predicated its request on the appeal court judgement of Friday, June 21, which upheld the primary that produced Mr. Peter Owolabi as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) for the constituency. Agboola, who represented the constituency between 2015 and 2019 was defeated by Owolabi in the February 26 , 2019 National Assembly election. But an APC House of Representatives aspirant, Hon Bimbo Daramola, had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, urging it to nullify the primary on account of alleged fraud and manipulation of the process to favour Owolabi. Subsequently, the High Court in its judgement favoured Daramola and ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return from Owolabi and present same to Agboola, who came second in the election. Based on the judgement, INEC complied with the ruling and Agboola was among the 360 lawmakers that were sworn in on June 11 at the House of Representatives. But Owolabi, who proceeded on appeal, on Friday got the lower court judgement reversed, on the premise that Daramola filed the suit out of time and that had rendered it statute barred. In a telephone conversation with newsman in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the CNPP Chairman in Ekiti, Deacon Olu Akomolafe, said “ordinarily, if not for the fact that Hon Agboola had been sworn in at the National Assembly, INEC ought to withdraw the certificate from him and return to the original owner. “But as it stands, pending the time the Supreme Court will dispose off the case, the Speaker must ensure that no salary or allowance is paid to the present occupant, because he remains an illegal occupant until the apex court proves otherwise.” “It would be an aberration and colossal waste of public funds for Hon. Agboola to be paid now and if the judgement turns out in favour of the APC candidate, then the NASC will be under obligation to pay the original winner”, he stated. see more here https://thickmatch.com/appeal-court-judgement-cnpp-urges-reps-stop-salary-ekiti-pdp-lawmaker/

The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in a war of wits with the opposition PDP as the party has now filed a petition before the Governorship Election Tribunal against the Commission alleging denial to access elections materials. The PDP is accusing INEC of alleged violation of orders of the court, which instructed the commission to allow them access to electoral materials. In the petition, PDP accused the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Professor Risqua Shehu Arabic of alleged contempt of court for refusing them access to the elections materials. The tribunal on 7th of May, 2019 granted PDP access to inspect the electoral materials. Counsel to PDP, Barrister Bashir Umar told journalists that upon granting the order, the tribunal urged all parties involved, including APC, INEC, PDP to draft schedule within which the inspection of materials begins and completed. Barrister Bashir regretted that INEC has slowed down the process of issuance of the electoral material while failing to meet the 22nd May, 2019 deadline. ” We have written the legal adviser of INEC, J.B Daudu, SAN to notify the chamber of the deliberate attempt to deny us the documents and to further draw public attention. The PDP governorship candidate also paid an unscheduled visit to INEC office in Kano for on-the-spot assessment, yet the condition did not change. ” That was why we were left with no option than to file form 48, which queries the disobedience of INEC to obey orders of tribunal filed on 8th of June, 2019, otherwise, they will be committed to contempt of court. ” We subsequently filed form 49 after there was no response, for the commission to come before the tribunal to explain why it will not be punished for violating or refusing to obey orders of the court,” Bashir explained. The tribunal has fixed Wednesday 19th June, 2019 for hearing of the PDP application. See more here https://thickmatch.com/breaking-pdp-slams-contempt-charge-inec/

Henceforth, traffic offenders are to be tried by special courts in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said at the weekend. According to him, the special courts would be created soon, adding that convicts will be made to serve punishment if found guilty at the point of contravention. The government would not spare anyone, irrespective of status, warning that motorists must obey traffic regulations. According to a statement by deputy chief press secretary Gboyega Akosile, the governor spoke on Sunday at an interdenominational thanksgiving Service organised by the Lagos chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the Deeper Life Bible Church Headquarters in Gbagada. The statement quoted the governor as saying: “We want the people to obey Lagos traffic law. We want them to understand that they are not the only road users who have right of way. If you want my government to finish well, don’t drive against the traffic. “We are working with the Acting Chief Judge of the state to set up special mobile courts that will dispense judgment on traffic offences. Any offender would be made to serve the punishment immediately, which could be in the form of compulsory community service. We are declaring zero tolerance for disobedience to traffic rules.” Sanwo-Olu said the task of realising the ‘Greater Lagos’ project would be difficult without the support of the residents. He urged Christians in the state to join hands with his administration in its efforts to create a prosperous Lagos. CAN Chairman, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, described life as “a race”, pointing out that the governor emergence was a call to service. He urged the governor to always seek the pleasure of God before taking decisions. Observing that many leaders failed because they sought the pleasure of man and severed their connections with God, Apostle Bamgbola said a leader must be just in deciding the affairs of the society See more here https://thickmatch.com/lagos-get-special-courts-traffic-offenders/

Witnesses have told the election petition tribunal in Akwa Ibom State that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cancelled collated results compiled from their units and wards. They also alleged that INEC produced voters’ register which were not used on election day. Seven witnesses who testified on Senator Godswill Akpabio’s petition, told the three-man panel, that they were amazed to hear that collated results obtained from their units and wards were cancelled after they were announced at the polling units and wards. They added that the petitioner, Akpabio, won convincingly in all the units and wards that results were collated and announced. The Ward Agent in Okon Ward 8, Essien Udim council, said he was shocked to hear that the results which he signed at the collation centre were cancelled by INEC in Uyo. He insisted he only heard about the cancellation in the court. Lead counsel to the third respondent (INEC) Ifeoluwa Otediran said INEC cancelled the results in 17 of the 20 pulling units in Okon Ward 8 because the voters’ resister used for accreditation were not ticked, and INEC believed that there was no accreditation of voters. But the witness said: “My Lord, it is not true. There was accreditation and our names were ticked in my Ward before we were allowed to vote, and the same thing was done in other polling units which our party agents told me about. There was no cancellation in my presence. I was a ward collation officer for my party Testifying on INEC form EC8B1 for code 06 (Odoro Ikot Ward 6) of 05 registration area, a witness said he was surprised to hear, for the first time inside the tribunal, that results in the 10 polling units in his ward were cancelled. According to him, voters’ register presented to him in the tribunal was different from the one used during the election. “My Lord, these documents tendered here are different from the one INEC brought to the polling units in Ward 8, Odoro Ikot, Essien Udim council on election day. It is a surprise that INEC gave us photocopied documents. I am surprised that there were original documents. “Our names were ticked on the voters’ register they gave to us, but it is shocking that our names are not ticked in this one here at the tribunal,” the witness said.
