Lagos State House of Assembly has set up a committee to probe the purchase of 820 buses for public transportation in the state by the administration of immediate past Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode

The committee is chaired by Hon. Fatai Mojeed.

Afrocandy has "appealed" to Nigerian billionaires, Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote to solve Nigeria's power problem with their money instead of investing in a refinery. 

The Nigerian porn star said this in reaction to Femi Otedola's video of Aliko Dangote's $13 billion heat recovery steam generator for his refinery. Otedola had stated that the money spent on the generator by Africa's richest man, was money well spent.

Passing off a comment in reaction to the video, Afrocandy said the billionaires could add a little more to the $13 billion to fix the power problem in the country. The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) is currently delivering judgment on the petition by the Hope Democratic Party (HDP), challenging the outcome of the last presidential election.

Although the court had, in three rulings earlier on Thursday, dismissed/struck out the petition, having upheld the preliminary objections by the respondents, said it was required by the Constitution, to still proceed and determine the petition on the merit.

“The rulings earlier delivered ought to have ended this petition, but the amendment to the Constitution required that the court, being a court of first instance, must determine the petition on the merit,” the court’s Presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Garba said.

He is currently reading the lead judgment.

The court had, while dismissing/striking out the petition in the earlier rulings, held that not only did it (the court) lacked jurisdiction to hear the petition, because it talked about referendum, the prayers in the petition are similar to what the petitioners sought in their pending cases before the Federal High Court on the same issues.

HDP and its presidential candidate, Andrew Owuru are contending that they be declared winners on the grounds that they won a referendum purportedly conducted on February 16, 2019, earlier scheduled for the presidential election, which INEC shifted to February 23, 2019.

Reports just reaching us has it that the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has reserved judgment to a date that will be communicated to parties.

The Nation reports that the Presiding Justice of the court, Justice Moammed Garba on Wednesday stated this while adjourning proceedings shortly after parties adopted their final written addresses and made their final submissions.

While lawyers to the respondents have argued that the petitioners failed to prove their case and urged the court to dismiss the petition, lawyers to the petitioners argued otherwise.

The respondents in the petition by Atiku Abubakar and the PDP are INEC, President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has shut down rumors claiming he is seriously sick and bedridden.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary Onyebuchi Ememanka, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, said he is in good health and not bedridden. He appealed to residents of the state to disregard the rumor.

The statement reads

“Those carrying the rumour that the governor is sick and bedridden are agents of destabilisation whose stock in trade is to spin rumour mills and trade in falsehood. The unfortunate news they have been spreading exists only in their disjointed imaginations. The good people of Abia State are advised to completely disregard these agents of confusion and their evil machinations''.

President Buhari has vowed to respond fiercely to the killing of 37 innocent people by bandits in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State describing the the bandits as brutal and remorseless enemies of humanity, while condemning the killing and commiserating with families of the victims.

In a statement by Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Saturday, the president commiserated with the victims of the unfortunate attacks, the government and people of Sokoto state.

“This frequent and large scale killings of poor villagers by gangs of mass murderers must be met with the fiercest force the government can mobilise,” Shehu quoted the president as saying.

The presidential spokesman announced that troops had been deployed to the affected areas and aerial security measures put in place.

“The Police commissioner as well as the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has since visited the affected local government area, Goronyo.

The Presidency is consulting with states rocked by this tit-for-tat violent attacks with a view to complementing the security measures being put in place by getting the communities to dialogue with one another.

‘‘The results we are getting from Zamfara State where this sort of engagement is ongoing at the instance of the local authorities working with the police and other security agencies are very encouraging.

Other states in the federation where there are similar security challenges are encouraged to emulate Zamfara in the hope that the solution to the problems will be found,” the spokesman said.

According to him, the Buhari administration would continue to encourage dialogue and disarmament of communities and bandits. He, however, warned that the government would not tolerate ”any situation where the spirit of ceasefire is made a mockery of by continued violence against innocent people”.
