The President of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Shettima Yerima has said, that the government of Buhari has put over 160 million Nigerians under captivity this is so because those who made the sacrifices for Nigeria's democracy, were left with nothing. Adding that opportunists who didn't contribute anything in the fight for Democracy took over the process of governance. He said, “It is so sad that Nigeria is undergoing so much crises and challenges, despite our struggles and sacrifices in fighting against dictatorship and enthronement of democracy. “We were in the trenches fighting for democracy but unfortunately, opportunists took over the process of governance. Most of them didn’t make any sacrifice, and that is why they don’t feel any pain in the way things are going on in this country. “Those who made the sacrifices were left with nothing, and that is why the over 160 million Nigerians are under captivity. “One would have expected that with the collective efforts of Nigerians to bring about a new ruling party; to ensure that an opposition party took over from a ruling party that was in power for many years, by now Nigerians would have started smiling, experiencing change and breathing fresh air, but it has not been so. The situation seems to be worse than we had imagined.” http://www.politicalng.com.ng/2017/01/alhaji-shettima-yerima-buhari-has-put.html?m=1

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through the party’s spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye, has expressed shock, anger and total dismay at the accidental bombing of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Rann village of Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State by the military, adding that the mistake is “a show of unprofessionalism and lack of intelligence regarding operations of such magnitude.” “This is totally unacceptable and we demand a thorough and independent investigation into the matter to unravel the mystery behind the Accident.” “We are very worried that the Military after several successes against the Sect in recent times will display such provocative conduct capable of rubbing-off on its past achievements as a professional organisation.” “We are of the opinion that the Tuesday, January 17, 2017 accidental bombing of the IDP Camp was a reaction to a false alarm and the Military was misled by the informant to cause the killings of those innocent Nigerians. Consequently, Nigerian military must talk less on its modus operandi and also carry out sufficient intelligence gathering in order to avoid such costly mistakes in the future.” “Finally, we condole Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari, the Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima and the families of those who lost their lives in the incident. “It is unfortunate and regrettable as we pray their souls to rest in peace. We are equally calling on government at all levels to provide the needed support for the injured persons and pray for their speedy recovery.” http://www.politicalng.com.ng/2017/01/pdp-reacts-to-borno-idp-accidental.html?m=1

The Deputy senate President of Nigeria, Senator Ike Ekweremadu speaking through his special Assistant on Political Affairs, Hon. Okey Ozoani, has described rumors of his deflection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as false, promising Nigerians and the Peoples Democratic Party of his firm and undivided membership to the party, "i am going nowhere." the statement read, “Senator Ekweremadu is not contemplating leaving PDP. He is more concerned about fixing the country’s biting economic and security conditions and other challenges than saving his job as the Deputy President of the Senate. “It is his view that Nigeria has to first exist for us to have political parties to belong to or political offices to occupy. Studies have shown a direct relationship between economic conditions and survival of democracy. “The primary responsibility the Constitution places on our government is to cater for the wellbeing of the citizens as well as security of their lives and property. When such are threatened, everyone should necessarily get serious and preoccupied with contributing his or her quota to salvaging the country. “Besides, he is most grateful to his colleagues for the confidence they continue to repose in him and the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki. He is grateful for the solidarity that the Senators have continued to accord them”. http://www.politicalng.com.ng/2017/01/sen-ekweremadu-i-am-not-contemplating.html?m=1

A former Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers state and also the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Hon Dakuku Peterside In a statement released by his media team which was sent to daily post, has described the governor of Rivers state, Governor Nyesome Wike as a governor that lacks sense of accountability and responsibility, which has led to the fears and worries of the people of Rivers state. Adding that the Governor's level of incompetence has rendered many people jobless and helpless. The statement reads, “At a time when countries of the world are working hard to secure a sustainable future for their people, looking for more avenues to increase their saving for future needs, when the Federal Government is doing all it can to increase our foreign reserves, Governor Wike is doing exactly the opposite. “Rivers people are worried that the governor lacks sense of accountability and responsibility. This is a state where nobody saw 2016 budget, where 2017 budget recently signed by the governor is yet to be made available to anybody, including members of the House of Assembly. Wike should not make the future of our state seem hopeless. “Not too long ago, the Federal Government refunded over N15 billion to the coffers of Rivers state from excess deduction over Paris Club exit. Till date, the state governor has not told Rivers people what he intends to do with the money, nobody knows what has happened to the money. Doctors, teachers, fire service men, pensioners amongst others are protesting unpaid wages and lack of working tools. “Here is also a governor who has borrowed over N100 billion since he assumed office but nothing on ground to justify such huge amount. The same man is now seeking to repeal law that makes it compulsory for the state to save monthly from its federal allocation. “Here is a governor that has not employed anybody since he came into office but has rendered many people jobless and helpless. Staffs of TIMARIV and RSSDA are still being owed till today, just as many of the primary health centers and primary schools built by the Amaechi-led administration have been abandoned.” http://www.politicalng.com.ng/2017/01/dakuku-peterside-wike-lacks-sense-he.html?m=1
