people are missing the irony of the Awolowo/Igbo relationship described in the write up. Awolowo preferred the Igbo in his lifetime BUT the Igbos are trained to loathe him, Akintola saw through the Igbos and was killed in the Jan 1966 coup by the Igbo coup plotters.

Awolowo is paying for his wrong judgement of character!

ndu_chucks: Seun or to whom it may concern:

There appears to be a sorting problem or a we now have couple of sticky threads at the bottom of the first page in the Politics section and possibly a few others. You may want to have your developers take a look, unless you've implemented a "bottom' sticky idea.

This is what I see at the bottom of the first page (Page 0):

www.nairaland.com/attachments/1456007_CUsersA949824Desktop1_jpg3650dfbe9d39997bf08cb35e53656ea6

Note that the threads after the Bola Tinubu thread seem out of place and appear as stickies. When you go to the next page, the first thread displayed is the Bola Tinubu thread as shown below.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/1456008_CUsersA949824Desktop2_jpgb15ea51cd1308be980a8737f240e00a0

The Bola Tinubu thread may not be what you see on the second page because new posts or threads may have been made since I made my graphics, but the last 4 posts/threads continue to appear as 'bottom' stickies on the first page.

Please ignore if my observations are unfounded
i noticed this too.....funny

Judith Adaeze: the likes of Professor Kenneth Onwuka Dike and Professor Eni Njoku went ahead to become the first Nigerian Vice-Chancellors of the Universities of Ibadan and Lagos respectively.
Why do you guys keep making this statement as an achievement? Igbos are just reminding us of the acute nepotism that went on then.......the ruling government of the day was a merger of the Igbos and hausas (NCNC and NPC) and they ensured that the Igbos were favored political appointments all across the Nation in most fields. Of course, there were much more qualified professors of Yoruba stock in those institutions, but the Yoruba were in opposition.

Nepotism we can even see today ( remember the customs woman)

Onlytruth: Some of you trolls are very annoying but we have gotten used to you in Nairaland.

Apparently, you did not read the interview and the statement by Gbulie to which I responded.
The fact remains that ALL historians blame Ironsi for his privarications, weak resolve, and dilly dallying which opened the way for his eventual killers to kill him.
It really takes someone who can tell himself the truth to be able to see dangers in clear terms and plan ahead to neutralize them.
Ironsi was the HEAD OF STATE, the first military leader in Nigeria. He had SIX months to tinker with the military any way he wanted, and would have not only survived, but changed Nigeria for ever for good. HE FAILED.

Let me tell you, Nigeria is one of the countries I know that is VERY EASY to rule because Nigerians are inherently cowards and most only attack weak targets. If Ironsi had secured himself with FEW CRACK Igbo officers handpicked and trained for that only purpose of defending him, he would have ruled Nigeria for as long as he wanted. He died because he was living in lalaland of a nirvana nation, albeit one that was on the verge of disintegration.
[b][quote author=Onlytruth]You never learn don't you. How can he "change Nigeria for good" when he would have ruled over the spilt blood of other tribes except his own? in your warped and biased mind only I guess.

Just like Abacha and his ilks, nemesis would have caught up with him and his associates ( as it did) , irrespective of the path he took as long as he refused to punish his kinsmen. It could have taken longer or shorter, even the revenge coup could have been more bloodier. Ironsi would not have lasted a day if he had taken your skewed advice......his slaughter would have been served immediately. The majority northern troops and some of their officers realized the plot after the coup, but Ironsi's fake declaration and pretense to serve justice delayed the dooms day.

Justice will always serve!
PoliticsRe: Awolowo Is Responsible For The Developments In Today's Western States - Clark by fluteman: 8:54am On Nov 16, 2013
Katsumoto: 5. In the West the grant of Regional self-government has on balance been justified. The Action Group Government, led by the Premier, Chief Awolowo, have proved reasonable and competent administrators and, although with the steady run-down of the cadre of overseas officers there is bound to be some decline in standards of administration, the advanced educational programme of the Region should in time provide sufficient replacements. The Premier aspires to national leadership and has to this end formed a close alliance with the principal Opposition elements in the North and East.

6. In the East government has seriously run down. Dr. Azikiwe (" Zik "wink, leader of the N.C.N.C. remains in power as the personification of Ibo tribalism, but his chronic unwillingness to tolerate around him men of independence of mind has brought into being a Regional Executive Council, almost all of whom are nonentities. Some of the Federal Ministers drawn from his Party, notably Dr. Mbadiwe, have recently lost their posts through constant but so far ineffective warfare against his personal dictatorship of party affairs. His star may be on the wane. At present he has no serious rival as leader of the Ibos, who are much the largest race in the Region, and although it would be much healthier for Nigeria if his hand were removed from the helm, the time has passed when Her Majesty's
Government could take any effective action to hasten this process. He must be left to the disillusionment of his own people.

7. The vast Northern Region is still well behind the others in " progress." Two-thirds of its 18 million people are strict Muslims, accepting the authority of their Emirs. Educational progress is still slow and there is no prospect for a generation of the Region being able to replace from its own resources the overseas officers who have served them so well. The North fears and dislikes the more educated Southerners and if they were not economically bound to the Federation would be glad to be quit of it. The Emirs have for the most part recognised that they must come to terms with democracy and support the party at present in power, the N.P.C. The Premier, the Sardauna of Sokoto, is himself of a princely family.

Onlytruth: The Ironsi maga -"ism" shocks me sometimes. I wonder whether Ironsi ever understood what a COUP meant.
Once a coup situation appears on the scene (whether as rumour or credible information), I wonder which TRUE soldier would put his life in the hands of a NON-BLOOD brother (which explains why dictators always lined up sensitive security positions with BLOOD BROTHERS). Check history.
For Ironsi to be warned by Madiebo, and for Ironsi to have called in Hassan Katsina and dare Madiebo to repeat his story, tells me that the man did not deserve the slighest of respect when he was cornered at Ibadan. None of his killers respected him. lol

Well, I hope the lesson has been learned. Thats all.
Well, its no surprise how you think.

The lesson learned is that treachery has deadly repercussion. Ironsi refused to punish the Ibo coupist( as confirmed by Gbulie, who, despite being in "prison" in his area, had the capacity to communicate and plan with senior Ibo officers in the Army) who killed Northern and Yoruba leaders while sparing the Ibo leaders. In this, he proved to be an Igbo bigot and deserved his end.

If he had protected himself with only Ibo officers and family, it would have been crystal clear immediately what the game is , and the majority Northern military personnel (armed) would have reacted way sooner. Albeit, they gave him six months to correct the bs but his ibo attitude cost him and a lot of officers from the east.

Justice catches up eventually........no matter how you want to circumvent it

Why cant you wait for Kats to provide another independent source to collaborate his prison lies before jumping on his praise wagon,if you are not intellectually lazy.

There are a plethora of accounts out there, wait for Katsumoto, to show us where someone else collaborated that prison story or his being conned to participate in the coup.

I hate to brandish internet sources, because every m0r0n like me have the right to post any nonsense online.
Kats showed me where Ademoyega wrote in his book that he fought ifeajuna in prison, and i said i don't believe Ademoyega, the source dawodu.com is not convincing enough for me, because those people are reading same books that were written to deceive the public on his involvement.

I started this argument forming my opinion on the transcript of the Aburu conference which served as the truth and re conciliatory panel at the time.
The transcript was released by the then administrator of Ghana Nkrumah who apparently, has no vested interest, save to make peace. so it is safe to assume that he doesn't have a reason to alter the transcript.

Lol...

You are actually the m0r0n with very limited brain matter (probably less than that of a fish), if you cannot understand that they were formally in the same prison but moved to separate prison after the imbroglio.

You are so slow to realize that the Aburi recording will only acknowledge the prisons they were released from.

Why are you acting so dumb?.....gosh

jp philips: whose book? a man who is claiming he was conned to participate in a coup? A man whose role was not just pivotal but was in the decision making arena like when Major donatus Okafor was recruited?
if you are so stup!d to believe that nonsense Ademoyega wrote, you will as well be stup!d to believe gbulie's assessment of Achuzie.
that is how false hood spreads, every online article on this fallacy is quoting "why we struck" written by the same man who is selling crap to the public.
If that coup had succeeded, will Ademoyega refuse his rewards?

back to the questions i raised before, you actually quoted "dawodu.com" lol now i know why you believe a lot of craps,
i still have access to a load of actors in that war, i don't read online craps to form my opinion, answer these questions;

1 I wonder why the actors in the re conciliatory Aburi conference never employed this same petty logic of yours to absolve Ademoyega, little wonder they raised no objection as Ojukwu mentioned him as one of the actors, do you have any explanations for that?

2 why should i believe you when all the regional governments raised no objection in his involvement? like i asked before, are you smarter than all of them? the same Govt that tried and jailed all of them? na waa oo

3 show me one account of ojukwu or any top actor in that era that buttresses this position that ifeajuna conned Ademoyega in joining the coup? or the prison fight.

I am sorry for you because you believe anything thrown at you, if not for the fact that i have documented Achuzie's successes and i have met personally people who served under his command with missing limbs and arms to show for it, one will be forced to swallow Ben gbulie's account hook line and sinker.
Mind you, Ben gbulie has already discredited Achuzie's successes in his book "FIVE MAJORS" calling him just a noise maker, tomorrow a brainless m0r0n like katsumoto will quote excerpts from "Five majors" to prove that Achuzie was a "noise maker" like gbulie alleged.

Answer the questions above, i have many more for you.

jp Philips, you are not making sense. First you alleged that they never met, but when Kats gave references from Ademoyega himself and from an acknowledged site, you changed directions again.

I know your type. It will be fruitless engaging in intellectual discussions with someone like you who are not intelligent and wise enough to accept when they have been punctured, full of hot air and very little substance .......no honor at all.

I will advise Kats not to waste his precious time with you

How come Seun or Mukina are not attending to the bias of the Ibo mods. I wish no one would have to say "Ibo mod" or "Yoruba Mod", but this clear bias from the Ibo Mods is getting more pronounced. cant they be talked to? cant they reign in their emotions and just try as much as possible to be objective.....is that too much to ask?

Imagine Yoruba victimization in a forum supposedly created by a Yoruba man. Is it only the monarchy that is hereditary? for your information, the practice in Yorubaland is that a certain family continues to bear a certain traditional title in honour of their forefathers who graced such title. The previous Iyalode held forth for the Illustrious Tinubu family, even before Bola Tinubu became known. Heck, Bola Tinubu even used the influence of the title held by his mum in honour of the Tinubu family to progress his political ambition. What follows now where the daughter holds forth is the normal evolution of the title, as long as the Oba of Lagos gives his blessing. It is not by appointment, not politics, but culture and tradition. You should seek clarifications before coming to the public to join the ignorant club

Too bad you are just ignorant of your culture and tradition........Iyaloja title is placed in the Tinubu family, just like ashipa, balogun etc in their respective families. In short, it is passed from members in the Tinubu family as a matter of tradition and not politics. The Tinubu familly nominates someone for the King of Lagos approval.

Tinubu's mum was Iyaloja way before Tinubu became known and the Tinubu dynasty is a very important one in lagos traditionally.

PoliticsRe: Proposed National Conference: A Case For Kwara State by fluteman: 10:40am On Oct 27, 2013
After a deep reflection, I have come to accept that Ilorin rulership will be difficult and nearly impossible to reclaim by the Yorubas for the following reason;

The Fulanis achieved in Ilorin what the americans have been trying to achieve in all their recent wars i.e Afghanistan, Iraq and I think even in Vietnam, without success........TO WIN THE HEARTS AND MIND OF THE CONQURED TERRITORY.

This is the ultimate success blueprint to conquer a people and the Fulani achieved this with ISLAM. Over time before they finally assassinated Afonja, they gained access to Yoruba land and silently converted so many, enough to share the Fulani aspiration and willing to subjugate their fellow Yorubas. That to me is brilliance.

The Fulani were physically less capable compared with the Yorubas and the only way Ilorin control will/has been sustained is the conquest of the minds of Ilorin Yorubas, assimilate their Language and controlled mixing. Believe me, the Fulanis can still trace their bloodline and are very carefull with the mixing thing.

The only way to change all this is re-orientation of the Ilorin Yorubas, make them realize that Loyalty to their family, their clan and their race is encouraged by Islam, that the emirates as it is structured is a Fulani hegemony ( Islamic only in name, as only a Fulani can aspire to become Ilorin Emir, not who is most knowledgeable)

Please don't allow the trolls derail this fine thread, lets just ignore them.

I stayed in Ilorin for a year or so and I can confirm that the Ilorin emirates is more Fulani than Yoruba.
The fact that they answer Yoruba names seems to me like a survival strategy and it has been deceptively successful.

The strongest tool the emirates are using to stay is Islam as it somewhat creates a kind if unified front for the Yoruba and Fulani, with the claim and practice of the Emirates following Islamic traditions. The majority muslim Yoruba will want to follow Islamic tennets by leaning towards the emirates ( which is actually a form of Fulani rulership tool) rather than a native Obaship that denote paganism.

Islam, to me, is the main factor

Katsumoto: Just some corrections - the slaves were Hausa and were called gobirawa.
Afonja's army consisted of Hausa slaves - Alimi had no army. He was just a muslim teacher. After the death of Alaafin Aole, Afonja with the opele of Gbogun stopped paying tributes to the new Alaafin, Adebo
It was actually Abdulsalam, Alimi's son, who killed Afonja and invited the flag of the Caliphate from Gwandu
The Army which sacked Oyo was overwhelmingly Afonja's army together with Solagberu's army from Oke Suna.

You are right that Ibadan did stop the Fulani at Osogbo but the Ibadan soon became embroiled in internecine wars with the Egbas and other groups and were unable to reclaim Ilorin.
Thanks kats.....your knowledge is quite vast. Respect

But going forward, what do you think will happen regarding the title and what strategies can be deployed to regain rulership of Ilorin for the Yorubas?
