Family / Re: What Exactly Is The PURPOSE OF LIFE? by FlutterDollar99(m): 2:47pm On Apr 06, 2019
I believe life is some sort of a reality with a games theme .
Where all has failed, you have to push, succeed and win. This thus brings forth the greatest questions, "where has everyman failed?" Life's purpose is to succeed where ever man has failed, but where has every man failed?

So I created a thread earlier seeking for investors. So I was able to get one or two people who are willing to invest(thank to nairaland),but I didn't later accept their investments because this people are not trustworthy. And they don't have the zeal to help athletes.its all about the money for them.I believe,if you dont have passion for something. You can not succeed.
Will be furthering my education, and won't have time to monitor and control this business.so that's why I am willing to sell and give it to any responsible person.a person that has passion for sports and know what it means to have peoples future in your hands.
Like I said before, the business is about sports.its all about helping athletes go abroad, helping them discover them selves, helping them get sports scholarships, uniting everyone through sports, promoting peace through sports, educating parents on the importance of sports and the opportunities that there are in sports.
So our normal agency fee for this service is 1500$.so now we have about 250 athletes around the world already registered on our website and ready to use our service.so 1500 ×250=...... .like I said earlier, you need to have passion for something for you to succeed.
I have also been able to get agents in the UK to work for me.also have about two organisations in the Uk .willing to partner.we also have a pro soccer athlete at Chesterfield fc.he is willing to bring all other players on board. We are also working on partnering with the unitedvnations arm on sport.this arm is called peace and sports.have the likes of drogba, etoo, mata and other pro athletes.also working on something I'm Oman.morden sports ain't particular over there that much.most stick to horse racing and other ancient sports.
I can go on and on....so if you interested. Let me know
Table your offer
Please if there is any opportunity for a degree holder kindly assist me

Agriculture / Re: Starting An Oil Palm Plantation by FlutterDollar99(m): 10:13am On Apr 06, 2019
pryncipal:
Oil palm plantation is capital intensive, first you must have a good land that is accessible to vehicle,.Depending on what you want to begin, you can start with 500 but buy quality planning material from NIFOR( not agent) You can decide to raise the nursery yourself or buy the one that are ready for planting. If you are doing more than 5 hectare I advised you do soil analysis to determine the suitability of your land for oil palm plantation,. Having done all of the above, You will mark your plot, the essence of this is to determine the diameter of your palms. I don't subscribe to using heavy machinery during clearing this I have explain before in my earlier write up. From here on you do your planting ...All things being equal your crops will start to produce b/w 30-38 months of planting ie if Properly cared for.....
The procedure is.. as follows
Get your seeds plant them into Polly bags for 6/7 months.
You can order for NIFOR hand book for details explanation... or contact me for details 08051238707..Hope this will help.
wow 7 months. Thanks tho

I have been hearing lots of people, talking about different types of Agricultural produce they can plant or would want to plant, But what i have not seen on these forum is for someone to really come out and tell us, all the stress, difficulties, ups and down he/she went through before setting up there plantation.

I want to start by saying i have managed to secure mine self 13 plots of land. Each plot is a 100 by 100 feet. i want to start up an oil palm plantation. I have been able to buy 1755 oil palm Nursery from NIFOR. My story goes like these.......

Each oil palm nursery cost 150 Naira
Loading of each oil palm Nursery inside the vehicle is 20 Naira each
I paid 50,000 to convey the goods from IMO state to Ibusa Delta state.

On getting to the farm, the vehicle could not get to ibusa on time, the vehicle got to ibusa around 9.30pm. So the vehicle had to park in the house for the night. The next morning the journey to the farm began around 6.30Am, on getting to the entrance of the farm, the vehicle could not go in, because of poor road network. The vehicle managed to drive in but as the vehicle drove in, some sticks punctured one tire. So we had to off load the hold oil palm nursery on the ground. So we hard to go hire a pick up van. The van owner charged us 6,000 to convey the nursery to a location closer to mine own farm because there are other people farm in front of mine farm. now after that, i had to call the Hausa boys to use there wheelbarrow to convey the nursery to the farm, they charged 24,000. na wa ohhhh

Now the next stage is for me to plant. My mum's brother did one of these Agricultural causes is school, so he is a professional when planting oil palms.

We used a spacing is 8.7feet. you heard me clear, 8.7 feet. while they where doing the measurement, you know when planting oil palm, you have to do pegging, some hard roots was sitting on the sport where he was suppose to plant the oil palm, there was so much roots on the ground, we called the Hausa people again, they charged me 30,000 to uproot all the hard roots. so work continued. As am specking now, they have finished planting the 1755 oil palms. They would be buying more 200 palms because its like the land is more bigger than with i was told.

While am putting these here is for the new people that wants to go into farming. People, if you must go into farming, you must have money..... The more you go into it, the more unforeseen issues comes, and if you don't have cash to solve the issue immediately, your work would be suspended.

Also it does not end in just planting, there are still lots of things to be done before the said three years when you would starting harvesting.

So far so good, i have don't lots of mistakes in setting up mine oil palm plantation. If i have read some post that advices one on NL about setting up Oil palm plantation, i would not have made these silly mistakes.

if you are setting up an oil palm plantation.

Never you buy expensive lands.
Buy from NIFOR in your State not from outside your state
Let there me good motor able rood, so the vehicle conveying the palms can go into your land direct.
Make sure there is know roots in the ground that would disturb when planting

I would update later when more things comes into mine head
I wanted to know how to grow a palm kernel from seedling stage

Agriculture / Re: Palm Oil Plantation And Management by FlutterDollar99(m): 6:00pm On Apr 02, 2019
fghanni:
1. Technical aspects of oil palm :

Oil Palm (Elaeis guinensis Jacq.) is a native of Guinea Coast of West Africa. It belongs to family Palmae and tribe Cocoineae. Oil palm is the highest oil producer among perennial oil yielding crops. It produces two distinct oils viz., palm oil (extracted from meso carp of fresh fruits) and palm kernel oil (from kernel). Palm oil has excellent health attributes. It is rich in vitamins A and E and is cholesterol free. Palm oil can be used in formulation of margarine and cooking fat such as vanaspathi. It can be used in manufacture of biscuits, ice creams, soaps, detergents, and shampoos and also as frying fat. Palm kernel oil has variety of industrial uses.

1.1 Varieties: Broadly, there are three varieties viz., Dura, Piscifera and Tenera. Tenera, a hybrid of Dura and Piscifera is characterized by a thin shell and medium to high mesocarp (65-90%) and high oil content (16-20%). It is a commercially cultivated variety.

1.2 Soil and climatic requirements: Deep well-drained medium loam soil, rich in humus is the most suitable for oil palm cultivation. Oil palm requires a well distributed rainfall of 2500 to 4000 mm per annum and a temperature range of 19-33° C. It is a water-loving crop and it requires adequate irrigation. The crop responds well to drip irrigation and yields are reported to increase by at least 20%.

1.3 Planting: Oil palm is planted in triangular system at a spacing of 9 X 9 X 9 m accommodating 143 plants in a hectare. Planting can be done in any season. However, the best period is June to December. Seedlings of 10-14 months age are best suited for planting.

1.4 Irrigation Oil palm requires adequate irrigation, as it is a fast growing crop with high productivity and biomass production. For yielding palms of above three years age, a minimum of 150 litres per day is required. In older plantations the requirement goes upto 20 litres per day.

The crop responds well to drip or micro sprinkler irrigation particularly when water is limited. If drip is installed four drippers have to be placed for each palm. If each dripper discharges 8 litre per hour, 4-5 hour of irrigation is sufficient to discharge 160 litre per day. Drip irrigation increases the productivity by 15-20 per cent, reduces wastage of water, and requires less power/fuel per irrigation compared to conventional irrigation methods. It is important to note that any physiological stress shifts sex ratio in favour of male flowers and consequently the productivity is reduced.

1.5 Nutrition: Fertilizers are preferably applied in 3-4 split doses.
Application of green leaf manure or compost is advantageous, especially where the soils are poor in organic matter.

1.6 Inter crop: During the initial stages of plantation in oil palm i.e., up to 3rd year, some of the light feeder inter crops such as pulses, cereals, vegetables, grasses etc., can be grown. Inter crop should be grown 1m. away from the basin in 1st year of oil palm plantation. In two-year-old plantations, it should be grown 2 m away, followed by 3 m in the third year plantations.

1.7 Yield : Oil palm starts bearing from 4th year onwards and its economic life varies from 30 to 35 years. The yield of oil palm varies according to age and management. Under average management conditions in a mature plantation (8 to 9 years old), yield of 15-18 tonnes of fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) per hectare is expected. Under good maintenance and management, yield up to 25-30 tonnes of FFBs per hectare is possible.
Oil palm is best planted in June all through December because of availability of rain and harvest is usually between March and May of every year.
Palm oil is usually expensive between September and December – You need to set up a stocking program where you store it when it is cheap and sell back to market when scarcity sets in. This strategy requires space and may incur significant holding, handling and transportation costs.

1.8 Minimum Startup Capital/Cost of Investment
Take an acre of land for example which is about 660 ft by 66 ft as a study, as it requires about 25 seedlings, assuming you are spacing at 30 ft by 30ft that is 8 – 9 meters between 2 plants:
1. So to get seedlings alone, you will require about N10,000 to N15,000;
2. For land preparation if there are no trees to stump, you will need to plough twice which costs about N10,000 for a single plough.
3. Again, those who will plant the seedlings will collect N15,000; after planting, an annual minimum of three to four times of weeding will continue for the next three to five years until it gets to harvesting.

“For you to weed once, it requires about N15,000 because of the size of the land. So, putting all these together, you can imagine what the investment is going to be like for an acre. But it all depends on what you have on you and it will determine the size of land you will be cultivating.”

1.9 Likely Challenges/Solutions
1. Inadequate investment in research – we depended so much on the varieties we inherited, which are not really giving Nigerians enough yield and we never thought about how to improve on them.
2. The challenge of high cost of investment in oil palm cultivation business because of the technology involved and depending on the size of land.
3. The challenge of weeding because the plantation is not weed friendly and if you allow weed to over grow it, the production will fall.
4. Challenge in harvesting comes in, as it is not something you get to the tree, cut and it will come down – you need very serious cutting for the seed to come down and up till now, we are still using the manure traditional method of harvesting.
In country like Malaysia, they have developed their oil palm cultivation to the extent that they have harvesters, tickers, loaders, and everything required, from cultivation to management, and to harvesting. Also, in this part of the world, we don’t usually get enough hands to harvest, so it poses a challenge to those into cultivation. However, no matter the quantity and cost of oil palm you are cultivating, you will still make your money.”
Due to the special nature of the product itself, you need a land space that has the required soil nutrients, whereby the product itself can survive. Another one is that oil palm production requires the investor to have other means of income as he/she waits for two or more years for the trees to start yielding. This is the challenge for most entrepreneurs as they usually cannot wait for a number of years to reap their investments.
Those who cannot wait can move into other businesses in the sector like processing. They source the palm fruits or palm kernels from the farmers or business people and process it into useful products.

2.0 Advice To New Entrants/Nigerians
As new entrants, you should get it right from the start – you need to get your land ready, you need to get good varieties of seeds or seedlings and while planting, give it sufficient spacing so as to get maximum yield. I will also advice them to be patient because it is a long term investment.

In such cultivation, you can always do mix planting – at the early stage of cultivation when the oil palm is still very young, you can interplant with arable crops, like maize, cassava or crops that will have enough maturity so as not to just tie down capital.
Also new entrant are urged not to fail to seek advice from those who have been on it before with a view to guiding them on what to do and how to do it; and to be mindful that they are going to get return on their investment, if they do it well.

For our government, they should invest more in research, with a view to getting farmers the right varieties that will actually give them the maximum yield.

It should also be noted that oil palm cultivators should understand that it is not a buy and sell thing, or a kind of business you can start and make profit from within a day, week or year, but if you are coming in, you need a lot of patience with determination to endure the process. You can be assured that within a short period of time; you will get you returns and be a major player.

Poems For Review / The Shirt Eating Contest by FlutterDollar99(m): 8:03pm On Mar 11, 2019
Young Johnny Moth was taking a walk on a bright summer day. His parents constantly made fun of him and he always went up to his room and cried.
So one day as he was taking a walk through the streets he saw a large sign that said in big letters, "County Fair".
He decides to go in and check it out; he has some money on him. He walks around for a bit, and then he sees the Shirt Eating Contest.
He thought he might have a good shot at this; shirt eating has always been a hobby of his.
He signs up. It cost 5$. He sits down at a long table with about 10 seats. Each seat has a plate with 5 shirts neatly folded and stacked in front of it.
Everyone sits down and the director yells, "3! 2! 1! Eat!" and he shoots a blank. And Johnny starts eating. And eating. And he's eating. He's eating fast. He's finishing his shirts before everyone else.
He's finished his fifth and last shirt before anyone else has finished their second. He starts running around and eating everyone else's shirts. And he wins!
Johhny takes his prize and leaves. Before he gets far, he gets a tap on the shoulder. It's the director. "You did great back there. What's your name?" he asks
"Uh... my name's Johnny Moth."
"Well, I'd like you to participate in the Regional Shirt Eating Contest this Saturday right here. Are you interested?" he asks Johnny.
"Oh... I suppose," Johnny replies.
"Great! I look forward to seeing you there." And with that, the director leaves.
Johnny goes home and tells his parents what happened. They call him fat and Johnny goes up to his room and cries.
Soon it's time for the contest. He prepares himself and goes to the area. He's the first there, so he decides to take a short walk around.
Then he returns to his seat. Everyone else slowly comes in.
"Attention all contestants! There are two winners of this tournament. The winners are invited to the National Shirt Eating Contest on Thursday. The first two to finish their plate of 10 shirts wins! On your mark, get set, go!" yells the director through a bullhorn, shooting a blank.
And Johnny starts eating. And eating. And he's eating. He's eating fast. He's finishing his shirts before everyone else. He looks around. He's in the lead! He finishes way before everyone else.
He jumps around to everyone else's shirts after the second person wins. He eats a total of 48 shirts. He wins!
Everyone congratulates him and he runs home with his trophy. The Nationals! It's a very big deal, and he's very good at eating shirts.
He tells his parents, they punch him and he goes up to his room and cries.
Thursday comes. His flight to Chicago is early in the morning.
He takes his bags and leaves for Chicago. He checks into his hotel and gets some rest before the big night.
He wakes up and starts exploring the city. While walking, he bumps into a much larger moth than he.
"Hey, watch it punk," says the moth.
"Oh... sorry," replies Johnny, continuing on his way.
"Hey, you're that Johnny Moth kid, right? The shirt guy?" he asks.
"Um... yea," answers Johnny.
"My name is Freddy Mothinson, and I'm gonna kick your butt!"
"Oh..." murmurs Johnny, who continues to walk.
So it's now time for the contest. Everyone goes into the hotel ballroom at the table where 8 people sit in a circle.
"Welcome, champions, to the National Shirt Eating Contest! The two contestants to finish their 5 plates of 4 shirts will be invited to represent North America in the World Shirt Eating Contest. Ready, set, go!" says the director, firing a blank.
And Johnny starts eating. And eating. And he's eating. He's eating fast. He appears to be finishing his shirts before everyone else.
He looks over at Freddy. Freddy is mass consuming the shirts. He's winning by a landslide. He hurries up on his shirts. He gets second place without any fight.
The director congratulates the two on their performance.
"Hey, punk. Don't think you can stand a chance against me at the finals. I'm gonna kick your butt again!"
"Ah..." replies Johnny, who walks to his hotel room to get a good night's sleep.
He returns home the next day, to tell his parents what had happened. His parents fart on him, and he goes up to his room to cry.
He wakes up in the morning to find a letter on his doorstep.
"To: Johnny Moth. From: President.
A letter from the president! This was huge.
He opened it and started reading.
"Dear Mr. Moth. I saw your performances in Chicago on the television, and I was amazed at how determined you were eating those shirts. I will be coming to Paris to see you eat shirt in person. We're rooting for you!"
He was very excited. Paris was in a week. He booked tickets, and went to sleep. He sleeps a lot.
Six days passed and it's time to go to Paris. He says goodbye to his parents who throw things at him but they miss and Johnny runs while crying.
He gets to the airport, and boards the plane. Luckily for him, he's upgraded to First Class for free!
He takes his new seat, and finds out it is next to a very pretty lady.
"Uh... hello. I'm Johnny Moth. What's your name?" he says with red cheeks.
"I'm Clara. Nice to meet you!" she says, giggling.
They talk and flirt the entire plane ride, and Johnny finally gets the courage to ask her out.
"Um... do you want to have dinner on the Eiffel Tower at 7:30 after my contest?" he asks while his cheeks have all his blood.
"Sure! I can't wait!" she replies with a wink.
The plane lands and Johnny goes to his hotel for a good night's sleep. He wakes up, and it's his big day.
He explores Paris for the day, until it's 6:45. The contest is at 7:00. He hurries over to the park where the event is being held.
He sits down with the 7 others.
"Bonsoir, monsieurs. Today, we are happy to hold the World Finals for Eating Shirt. Of the 8 contestants, only one of you will claim victory. You must eat your 30 shirts before anyone else. 3, 2, 1, go!" says the director, firing a cannon.
Johnny and Freddy look at each other, and then dig in.
And Johnny starts eating. And eating. And he's eating. He's eating fast.
And Freddy starts eating. And eating. And he's eating. He's eating fast. He's finishing his shirts before everyone else.
They're tied, but both ahead of everyone else. Johnny wants to win, he knows that President and Clara are watching.
But Freddy is pulling ahead. He's ahead 17 shirts to 14. He's eating faster!
And then Johnny thinks of his parents. What will they do if he wins? Nothing. NOTHING! The hatred is flowing through him. He eats vigorously. He's eating a shirt every 3 seconds.
He wins in a landslide.
He celebrates! He dances around, and Freddy slams his plates onto the floor and walks away.
The director congratulates him and the crowd cheers. President comes up and shakes his hand. He is given his award of 500,000 euros.
He stays for a bit, and checks his watch. 7:24. He runs as fast as he can to the Eiffel Tower. He gets to the top by 7:30, and is out of breath.
But Clara isn't there.
She's probably just a bit late, he thought.
He hangs around for about 10 minutes, but still no Clara.
He decides to look through the telescope to see the City of Love.
He sees a beautiful view. But then he looks into a restaurant. And what does he see?
He sees his lovely Clara having dinner with Freddy Mothinson.
He starts crying. He cries harder than he ever had before.
And boy, have you ever seen a moth bawl.

combines the DNA of three people appears to be healthy,
according to doctors in the US who oversaw the treatment.
The baby was born on 6 April after his Jordanian parents
travelled to Mexico where they were cared for by US fertility
specialists.
Doctors led by John Zhang, from the New Hope Fertility
Center in New York, decided to attempt the controversial
procedure of mitochondrial transfer in the hope that it would
give the couple a healthy child.
While many experts welcomed news of the birth, some raised
concerns that the doctors had left the US to perform the
procedure beyond the reach of any regulatory framework
and without publishing details of the treatment.
Speaking to the New Scientist , Zhang said he went to Mexico
where “there are no rules” and insisted that doing so was
right. “To save lives is the ethical thing to do,” he said.
Mitochondrial transfer was legalised in the UK in 2015 but so
far no other country has introduced laws to permit the
technique. The treatment is aimed at parents who have a
high risk of passing on debilitating and even fatal genetic
diseases to their children.
