OSUN State government says it has completed the process of opening registers for poor and vulnerable people in 12 out of 30 local government areas of the state. Mr Femi Ifaturoti of the State Operation Co-ordination Unit for Youth Employment Social Operation (YESSO) said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, on Monday. Ifaturoti said having a unified register was part of the requirements for the execution of the scheme in states across the country. “We have re-validated the register in 12 local government areas so far; and as soon as we are ready, beneficiaries will start taking the stipend.” He said that community-based single register of the poor and vulnerable people was aimed at identify the extreme poor in the state. The coordinator said that the register would enable the identified people to benefit from social protection intervention of the Federal Government. “The Federal Government is currently articulating a reform agenda for the social protection sector as a means of ensuring that the present unacceptable levels of poverty are reduced to the barest minimum. “Driving this reform agenda is the recently established National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) under the Office of the Vice President. “The office has the responsibility of coordinating all social safety net initiatives in the country,’’ he said. Ifaturoti said the World Bank is backing it up with 300 million dollars in the implementing states. http://tribuneonlineng.com/osun-to-open-register-for-poor-vulnerable-in-12-lgas |

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayelsa State chapter has dismissed reports of the revocation of the suspension imposed on a former governor, Chief Timipre Silva, for anti party activities. In a statement issued on monday and signed by the state chairman, Chief Timipa Orunimighe and Secretary, Mr. Daniel Marlin, the party said there has been no such pronouncement or declaration, as the NWC has not sat on the matter to take any decision. “Our attention has been drawn to a story making the rounds that the National Working Committee (NWC) of our party, the APC ,has declared the suspension of Chief Timipre Sylva and 4 others as illegal, null and void. “To set the records straight, there has been no such pronouncement or declaration, as the NWC has not sat on the matter to take any decision. The suspension of Chief Sylva therefore stands, pending the outcome of investigations. “The public is hereby advised to disregard the said fabricated story and look forward to the outcome of investigations on the matter,” he said. Meanwhile the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri never got his appointment on the platter of financial negotiations as was being insinuated by some leaders of the party in Bayelsa State. In a statement by his Special Assistant (Media), Donald Ojogo, the minister said that like other appointees of Mr President, Senator Lokpobiri was duly considered worthy to be so appointed to his position. “It is a clear case of misrepresentation of facts to insinuate that former governor of Bayelsa who is the leader of the APC in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, collected money from the Hon minister before his appointment as minister. This is an outright fabrication,” he said. http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/04/05/suspension-of-silva-stands-says-bayelsa-apc/ |
