The American bald eagle symbolizes freedom and strength. It is holding13 arrows in one claw and an olive branch with 13 leaves in the other symbolizing Congress’ power overwarandpeace. The eagle is looking right showing that the US is a peaceful nation. The unsupportedshield, like the US, stands on its own. The shield is composed of13 stripes representing the13 colonies with a blue bar on top uniting the stripes denoting Congress. The cloud with a constellation of13 starsover the eagle represents thenew nation taking its place amongst the world’s sovereign nations. Motto:E pluribus unum(13 letters) – “Out of many, one” – as in the 13 colonies united as one through Congress. The13-step pyramid signifies strength and duration. The pyramid is uncapped and unfinished signifying that America is still anincomplete nation. The all-seeing eyeor theeye of Providence and the mottoAnnuit cœptis(13 letters) – “God has favored our undertakings“, refers to God’s interventions in favor of the American cause. The mottoNovus ordo seclorum– “A new order of the ages” and the roman date MDCCLXXVI represent the beginning of a new American era in1776. Pendant seals, which were small wax discs hanging from documents and imprinted with official emblems or coats of arms on each side, were used to authenticate official communication. The pendant seals were later replaced with the more convenient wafer seal which only required a single seal imprint. The Great Seal of the United States The all-seeing eye and the pyramid first appeared on the reverse side of the seal of the United States in a design approved by Congress in 1782. Following the signing of the Declaration of Independence officially giving birth to the United States of America, a committee was formed to create an emblem to encapsulate the ideologies of the new nation. Pendant seals were commonly used to authenticate official communication at the period, so the committee, including Founding FathersThomas Jefferson,Benjamin Franklin, andJohn Adams, set about designing the two sides of the Great Seal of the United States. The final design took 6 years and went through 3 different committees including a total of 14 men before finally being approved by Congress in the fall of 1789.

This will come as a rude shock to many of her fans that top Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwurah has abandoned her faith and converted to a new one. The newly married actress of 51 years has joined the Jehovah Witness. This it was gathered is her husband Anthony Boyd’s religion and thus since she is married to him she has converted to his faith. The couple shared photos of them in their meeting. Heavy downpour on Monday wreaked havoc in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, destroying over 350 houses and properties worth millions of naira. The rain, accompanied by heavy storm destroyed residential houses, churches and other public properties including schools. The heavy rain also caused traffic gridlock along major roads and streets. The areas badly affected include; Jerome Hwande street, Ankpa quarters extension, Ankpa ward by Demekpe, behind Customary court of Appeal, opposite first gate Benue state University, Gboko road and Federal University of Agriculture road North-bank Makurdi and behind Modern Market. Other areas affected include, Wurukum market Wurukum, Logo1 Akpehe vilage, Ide village opposite zone 4 police headquarters and Kasho village along Otukpo Makurdi. A resident of Ide village, Mr. Keddy Agbo, told our correspondent that the devastation caused by the rain is unimaginable, maintaining that it would take the affected households time to recover from the damage done by the rain. According to him, government at all levels as well as good spirited individuals and corporate organisations must come to their aid. What It Got Right The one most outstanding thing the movie gets right is the violence of slavery. Many people, including Black people, have no idea how horrible it was. What It Got Wrong In essence,Djangostill contained elements of Hollywood’s “white savior” narrative. Amistad Director Steven Spielberg’sAmistad(1997) was an Academy Award-nominated historical drama that examines a key moment in American history. Based on the true story, the film shows the saga of an 1839 uprising aboard the slave ship La Amistad, led by an African leader named Cinque (Djimon Hounsou). They attempt to sail back to Africa, but instead end up in the United States, where they are imprisoned as runaway slaves. Much of the movie revolves around a courtroom drama as lawyers for the enslaved Africans seek their freedom and return home. What It Got Right There was an uprising aboard a slave ship in 1839. What It Got Wrong Instead of focusing on what Amistad is really about, a ship uprising successfully planned and executed by enslaved Africans, the film focuses on a courtroom battle between good and bad white folks — an ode to the supposed legitimacy and integrity in the American justice system.
