Education › Re: My Name Is OR My Names Are,which Is Grammatically Correct? by forandy(m): 4:33pm On Aug 29, 2015 |
MizMyColi: well, here's my reasoning...
In a sane world, no body has just one name. The family is the smallest unit of human interactions and an emotional centre of sorts.
We'd all be lost if we had no family to identify with, which explains the reasons a sane human would normally crave for a sense of belonging....
Now this family you belong to has a name, that is first and foremost, who you are.
Which is why you don't hear people like Khloe Kardashian saying, "I am a Khloe"...but you can hear her saying "I am a Kardashian" There's something about pedigree that speaks volumes of the stuff you're made of.
In other words, your surname and your name are dependent on each other and actually function as ONE when it comes to introducing yourself in a formal/semi-formal setting.
So, I'd rather go with my name IS Margaret Thatcher. As far as identifying me is concerned, none is complete without the other. I am Margaret and I'm a Thatcher. In other words, my name is Margaret Thatcher.
"My names are" should, or, can be used when you need to make known your different names/titles, which to a very large extent are independent of the other.
For Example;
His name is Jehovah Elshaddai.
And
His names are Jehovah Elshaddai, Jehovah Tsidkenu, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Nissi..... Respectively. You catch my drift?

Walahi ehn...you know how to sabi something! |

Romance › Five Tips To Nurse Your Relationship Back To Good Health by forandy(op): 7:14am On Aug 16, 2015 |
All relationships, even the very best, require significant effort. All relationships experience highs and lows. Feelings change and excitement inevitably diminishes somewhat over time. If your relationship has reached a point of uncertainty, follow these five steps to nurse it back to health.
•Initiate an Honest Conversation The single most important thing you can do to save your relationship is talk. Ask your partner how they’re feeling and what they need. Share your needs with your partner in an honest, non-demanding way. Share your desire to continue life together and your commitment to working toward your future.
•Do the Little Things Do you remember what it was like when you first met? What little things did you do to make your partner feel good? Did you hand deliver a cup of coffee in the morning? Did you say goodnight at the end of every day? Did you compliment your partner often? Did you deliver flowers or chocolates? These acts of affection and appreciation shouldn’t stop when the relationship becomes comfortable. Make extra effort to show your affection and your partner will remember those raw, uninhibited feelings you once had for each other.
•Give Yourself a Makeover Just because you have nagged a partner doesn’t mean you don’t need to brush your teeth anymore. Take extra care to nurture your self esteem and your partner’s by putting your best foot forward every day. Present yourself to your partner as if it’s your first date whenever possible. If there are certain characteristics your partner loves, like a certain scent, acquiesce their desires by wearing it often. If you have let yourself go, it’s not too late to put the spring back in your step and take your partner by surprise.
•Re-establish Boundaries While the “no boundaries” movement is in full swing, there are some boundaries that are vital for a fiery relationship. You might be comfortable using the bathroom in front of your SO, but the fact of the matter is it turns a passionate relationship into a business partnership fast. If you want to bring the spark back to your relationship, limit nudity to intimate times and keep bodily functions behind closed doors where they belong. Don’t discuss everything with your partner; mysteriousness is exciting. Leave a little to the imagination.Even if you have crossed these lines a million times, redraw the line when you are working to save your relationship and respect the boundary. Your partner will notice.
•Evaluate Your Expectations Many times, relationships fail because one or both partners have unreachable expectations. Disappointment can only result when your expectationsare too high. Chances are that if you expect your partner to change your expectations are most likely unachievable. If you expect your partner to clean up after themselves 100% of time and you’ve chosen an untidy partner, that might be an expectation you can letgo of to save your relationship. If you expect your partner to give you all of their time, your expectation could be leading to your disappointment. Evaluate your role in the issues that have led to this point.Keep in mind if you are in a relationship that involves abuse or criminal activity, it may be okay to let go and move on.
However, if you’re in a healthy relationship that has veered off track, these five tips can help you come back together and move forward. |
