TLona1: It's bot about start stat padding. It about the number of times the best teams will have to play which makes it harder.
For example, there'll be 48 teams in the next World cup. If Argentina still goes on to win the competition, it means they'll play more matches plus even having to face the best teams later on in the KO stage before getting to the final.
Now compare this with what happened in 1958, 62 and 70 where Brazil didn't have to play many matches to reach the final.
They're not the same at all.
Argentina Messi didn't play more than 7 times though Pele's Brazil played 6 times.
Arizoner: i believe the competition was rigged in favor of argentina because of messi. Five controversial penalties awarded to one team in each stage and you come and tell me nothing is wrong. No way
5...5....the one against Croatia was one of them. A player ran to hit goalkeeper but you dash dem penalty and refused to see VAR when called to. What a fraud!
BlueRayDick: A lot of things happen before and during that match.
First I believe most south Americans do not find flattering that comment of Mbappe about South American football being less competitive compared to what obtains in Europe. It appears he was dissing them. Now Messi might not really be outspoken about things like that and would always skip press men questions surrounding such controversies, but people like Martinez and the rest of the team will not hesitate to leave egg in the face of someone like Mbappe when they have the chance.
I also watched a video of Martinez before Tchouameni penalty which he saved. He delibrately threw the ball sideways for Tchouameni to go pick it up, walk up to the spot and Tchouameni plays it off target. It was after that penalty Martinez did the crazy dance that's become a meme. That was just mind games because the moment a young player like Tchouameni goes to pick the ball and starts trying to decide where to place the "b*Stard" in goal, Martinez is already in his head and he succeeded.
I Also saw a video of Mbappe celebrating at 2-2 clinching his fist pointedly at Messi. That alone qualifies him for disrespect from people like Martinez. I mean Martinez literally worships whatever ground Messi steps on. ( Who wouldn't in his shoes? This is a guy who spent 10 years at Arsenal, didn't get a chance until Leno was injured and boom! The FA cup.) Just 2 years of playing with Messi he has 3 international trophies to his name. The guy is all out to press any pressable necks for messi and if the neck no gree press, na to break am.
The bolded is the reason FIFA is assumed to be backing Messi to win the trophy because the referee ought to had given him second yellow card but he looked away. Very obvious.
Many fouls were committed by the Argentina players but the referee refused to give the second yellow card. Very obvious fraud.
The reason many will never regard Messi as goat of goats. Everything about him is fraud.
iykofias: Pele had some unaccounted goals because he played in so many exhibitions/tour matches around the world against amateur players that can be best described as ‘farmers’. Yes, he won three World Cup, but that Brazilian team was filled with super talents, he sat out the large majority of the 1962 World Cup. something you can’t say about that Maradona or Messi team.
Sorry, Google didn't tell you he was injured in the group stage. Get your facts right next time.
chrisooblog: If you're looking at overall achievement eg WC, UCL, Copa and Olympics painful as it is you have to give it to Messi but no doubt eibarman worked with a lot of great talents unlike Maradona who had to extract water out of stone with most of the average talent he worked with.
I agree with you on this. Maradona was another level.
airmark: Ofcourse it would have been a risk for Abubakar looking at how closer the keeper was to him, but Muani's looping the ball wasn't as risky as firing a shot with the keeper closely in front of him but well away from his goal line.
popizaino: Appreciate the brilliance of the goalkeeper. The striker did no wrong there. He did the right thing with the right technique. The best possible option was to square it for Mbappe but it will take someone like iniesta who isn't at pressure 95% percent of the time to think of that in such an intense moment. No one would think of heighting the goalkeeper from such a long range and at the moment. EOD.
raumdeuter: There is a reason all these players are professional footballers and you are not. Some of them like Messi R9 Robben are legends of the game
Did he shoot the ball? No, he feigned before tapping the ball but unfortunately, it heat the keeper's leg. He should had looped the ball since the keeper was already down.
Robben was known for missing chances. He is not a striker.
