Oil Producing States in Nigeria Presently (2019): Full List

Nigeria produces about 2.5 million barrels of crude oil daily making it the largest producer of oil in Africa and 6th largest producer in the world.

Interestingly, this high valued and volume of crude oil is produced from just 7.5% of the total area. This small part of the country that produces this is known as the Niger Delta Region and the states that comprises it alongside other states where this oil is found are known as the oil producing States in Nigeria.

Currently, we have only 8 crude oil producing States in Nigeria that could be said to be really harnessing their crude oil potentials. These States includes Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Ondo, Edo, Imo and Abia.

Out of these 8 producers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa accounts for 80% of the crude oil produced. This article will discuss the contribution of each state and other interesting things about the states.

1. Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom is the largest oil producing state in Nigeria accounting for 31.4% of the total oil produced daily. The capital of Akwa Ibom is Uyo and it is said to be the most beautiful city in the country.

This state is a home to more than 5 million people scattered spatially in the 31 Local Governments of the state. 3 ethnic groups dominates this place and that is the Oron, Annang and Ibibio.

Akwa Ibom is not only blessed with crude oil, it is also blessed with other minerals such as natural gas, salt, clay, limestone, coal, glass sand and giver nitrate.

2. Delta
Delta with Asaba as it capital is the second largest oil producing states in the country producing about 21.56%.

There is a refinery and a petrochemical plant in Warri, the heartbeat of Delta state.

This state has 25 Local Government Areas with a population of more than 4 million. The major ethnic groups are the Urhobos, Isokos and the Itsekiris.

Regarded as one of the richest state in Nigeria, Delta also have rubber, timber, fine sand and clay.

3. Rivers
Rivers was ones the largest producer before Akwa Ibom took over from it as the largest oil producing states in Nigeria.

Currently, Rivers refine more crude oil than any other state in the country. In terms of crude oil production, Rivers produce 21.43% of the total produce.

The capital of Rivers is Port Harcourt, a city named after it founder. Rivers is regarded as one of the most populous cities in the country with a population of over 5 millions.

Ethnic groups in this state include: the Ikwerre, Okrika, Upobo, Kalabari the Ubani amongst others. Rivers state is also blessed with enormous aquatic resources.

4. Bayelsa
Bayelsa is one of the major oil producing states in Nigeria being the source of 18.07% of oil in Nigeria. This state is home to Oloibiri, the place where crude oil was first discovered in Nigeria in commercial quantity in 1959.

The capital of Bayelsa is Yenagoa and it is the state with the lowest number of Local Government Areas. Currently, it has 8 Local Government Areas with a population of just around 1.9 making it one of the least populated state in the country.

The historical Bonny Island is located in this state. The major ethnic groups include the Ogbia, Nembe, Izon and Epie- Atissa. Alongside crude oil, Bayelsa is blessed with aquatic resources.

5. Ondo
Ondo state is the 5th oil producing state in the country accounting for about 3.74%. The capital of Ondo is Akure and it is the only South Western state that made it to the list.

The population of Ondo is put around 2.4 millions, these numbers of people inhabit the 19 Local Government Areas in the state. Ondo state is also blessed with bitumen and tar sands.

6. Edo State
Edo is one of the lucky states to be an oil producing state. This state contribute 2.06% of the total crude oil output in the country.

Benin City is currently the capital of Edo and the state has a human strength of more than 3.3 million spread across the state’s Local Government Areas.

Edo state is also blessed with limestone, clay, gold, iron ore, fine sand and granite.

7. Imo
The capital of Imo is Owerri. This state add it out minute yet important quota of oil to the nation. It accounts for about 1.06% of the total oil produced in Nigeria.

The population of Imo is around 4 millions while it number of LGA is 27. This state is also graced with lead, zinc, fine sand, clay and limestone.

8. Abia
Umuahia is the capital of Abia state. This state is also lucky to had been blessed with crude oil earning it the title oil producing state.

This state has 17 LGA with a population of about 3 millions. Abia accounts for 0.68% of oil produced daily in Nigeria. It is also blessed with lead, zinc, fine sand and limestone.

The list ends here, leaving me and you to think on which state is to take the 10th spot. Is it Lagos, Kogi or Anambra? You can drop your comments using the comment box.

All the above oil producing states are part of the states earning from the yearly 13% of the revenue gotten from crude oil meant for stated producing oil in Nigeria.

VISTIN:
The problem in Nigeria is that we do things out of jealousy in order to prove that we belong.

The fact that oil is in Niger Delta and some parts of the East doesn't mean there will be oil everywhere.

There many natural resources in different parts of the country that can still help our economic growth, but every region wants to own oil by force.

Honestly, the way they were hyping the Lagos oil discovery, I was thinking by now Lagos would be producing 5m barrels per day.

Meanwhile, the search is still ongoing in the North.
No single state in Niger Delta produces 5m barrels per day.

Besides, Oil is not only found in the Niger Delta or Eastern areas.Ondo, Kogi and Lagos are officially Oil producing states. Ogun state will follow in no distant future though other states in the North have oil but I am sure of Ogun state.

For those who thinks players in Europe gets everything on a platter of gold.

ogbiwa:
Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne says he only spoke to former manager Jose Mourinho twice during his time at Chelsea.

De Bruyne, now at Manchester City, made only three Premier League appearances in two years at Chelsea, spending a season on loan at Werder Bremen.

He left for Wolfsburg in January 2014 before moving to City in 2015.

"There was so much in the press about my relationship with Jose Mourinho," De Bruyne, 27, told the Players' Tribune.

"But the truth is that I only ever spoke to him twice. The plan was always for me to go on loan for a bit."

De Bruyne scored 10 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Werder Bremen before returning to Stamford Bridge, when the then Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp - now in charge of City's title rivals Liverpool - wanted to sign him.

De Bruyne said: "Mourinho texted me, 'You are staying. I want you to be part of this team'.

"So I thought, OK, great. I'm in his plans."

'I'd rather you sell me' - on leaving Chelsea

De Bruyne started two of the first four league games of the 2013-14 season, but soon fell out of favour with Mourinho and was dropped to the bench.

"Jose called me into his office in December, and it was probably the second big life-changing moment for me. He had some papers in front of him, and he said, 'One assist. Zero goals.
Ten recoveries'," De Bruyne said.

"It took me a minute to understand what he was doing. Then he started reading the stats of the other attacking forwards - Willian, Oscar, Mata, Schürrle. And it's like - five goals, 10 assists, whatever.

"Jose was just kind of waiting for me to say something, and finally I said, 'But… some of these guys have played 15, 20 games. I've only played three. So it's going to be different, no?'

"It was so strange. I was completely honest. I said, 'I feel like the club doesn't really want me here. I want to play football. I'd rather you sell me.'"
The following month, De Bruyne joined Wolfsburg for £18m.

He scored 13 goals in 51 league appearances before becoming City's record signing in 2015 when he agreed a £55m, six-year deal.

'You threw me in the garbage' - on making a point

De Bruyne said his first "life-changing moment" came as a teenager.

As a 14-year-old, he joined Genk's academy, moving away from his family across Belgium.
In his second year at the academy, he lived with a foster family, provided by the club, but after a season they said they did not want him back.

"It's because of who you are," De Bruyne's mother told him. "They said you're too quiet. They can't interact with you. They said you were difficult."

De Bruyne said: "I kicked the ball against the fence for hours, and I remember at some point I actually said out loud, 'Everything is going to be OK. In two months, I'm going to be in the first team. No matter what, I am not coming back home a failure.'"

The following season, he was promoted to Genk's second team, for whom he scored five goals in one half of a game.

"You could see the change in everybody around the club. I earned a spot on the first team within two months," De Bruyne said.

"It's funny to see the change in how people treat you in football when you're doing well."

His foster family turned up at the club saying they wanted him back.

"They had really hurt me. So I said, 'No. You threw me in the garbage. Now I'm doing well and you want me back?'" De Bruyne said.

"In the end, I should have just said 'thank you'. That experience was the fuel for my career. But, unfortunately, that cloud still followed me around for a long time."

Football education in the country is rot due to the poor structure of the grassroot. Even a big man's child will not get Ajax academy education in Nigeria.

So no beef if a big man's kid is outstanding in camp. He is going to get better education and exposure.

However, I am against giving a scholarship to a big man's child whose father can pay 800,000 naira a term without flinching. Give the scholarship to a child that really needs it.

I think is a breach of their fundamental human right. If you are eligible to vote, then you can also be voted for. That part of the constitution should be harmonized with other part. In my opinion, anyone whose parents are Nigerians are also Nigerians by birth irrespective of where he was born.

For instance, a woman who is pregnant travels to Ghana and met her labour there, you will now say his child cannot context because he is not born in Nigeria. It's stupidity of the highest order.
Well, the same law exist in America. You can't become the President of America if you are born outside any territory under America's sovereignty.

It is not discrimination if we are using the opportunity to better the lives of kids that have none.

Using Nwakali as a point is actually flimsy because his life was changed by the U17 opportunity. No one is saying they will be World beaters but getting opportunities they never had.

A chance for education, exposure and Orientation.

You still look at them as different. If you look at all as brothers, where one has and the other does not, you will definitely allow the one with nothing to have a little. If not then the person denying the one with nothing has no conscience.

As for telling the foreign borns they can not play. If explained that it is used to give opportunities to those that do not have, they will understand.

Finito.
What made those foreign born parents to run away from Nigeria?

” You can ask from those who watched our friendly games, he was so much off the pace, no where near the players who made the list. At a time other players were beginning to question why coach Manu Garba ‎didn’t drop him weeks after he resumed training.

” He should be grateful that he was allowed to train with the team until the final squad was named. From the U15 team where he failed to get games, Divine Nwachukwu who was top scorer for the team made the list. Will it be fair to drop Divine for him? He claimed he failed to get games but he didn't tell us the same Divine failed to get games for selfish reasons grin
