genieluv: Oh my! Kenya seems to have more urban poverty while Nigeria has more of rural poverty.
**** Only lazy people are extremely poor and homeless in Nigerian urban areas.
It's very glaring. Most Kenyans are extremely poor. I watched another documentary about extreme poverty in Kenya yesterday on cables. You go cry for poverty.
Anyway, me don satisfy myself with the truth. Na their palaba if they continue to hide it.
genieluv: Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year to everyone who has been part of this thread from the beginning till now. I love you all

kano economic city model announced around July this year unlike the 1.9billion enyimba economic city this city will not start from scratch more like make over for the already existing kano cityit will also not focus on industrialization like enyimba or leisure like centenary and eko Atlantic but commerce as the city slogan suggests (kano home of commerce )
where houses will be built shopping malls etc but it would not lack other basic amenities like hospitals schools and sports facilities its will cost 460,million dollars work has already began
Ibrahimanees: That someone that said 17 (10?) pct of Kenyans live below the poverty line? Well you lied are mistaken. This popped up on my subscriptions about 2 hours ago.
TMKsouth: We all inherited colonial infrastructure, but we are maintaining it & building on it. Don't hate coz yours has now deteriorated. Here's more of what we've built.
5. Mandela Children's Hospital (only one in Africa) 6. World class FOOTBALL stadiums (7) 7. Constitutional Court (defender of our human rights) 8. New universities (including in Soweto)
You could only build one or two universities after 25 years yet none is among the best in South Africa.
Nigeria didn't inherit any world class infrastructures from the colonial master rather left us with mediocre infrastructures. You can not compare the infrastructures in South Africa with any other British colony because they built South Africa to their taste in order to live there forever. That can also be said of Algeria built to taste by the French because the intended making it France annex.
Just one university was built by the British in the whole Nigeria compared to South Africa who has many world class universities built in the 17th century. Same goes with your cities, transportation, economy, etcetera.
The difference is clear and not like deterioration here in Nigeria. We rebuilt the mediocre infrastructures to world class from the scratch.
See Lagos just few years after independence but see what we have done afterwards in the last two pictures.
TMKsouth: Dude, this response says a lot about how Nigeria is mismanaged. You want to tell me that it's extremely difficult for you to fathom that anything good has been done in the last 25 yrs of black rule in SA?
Forget that people have been lifted out of poverty, have proper housing, power, water & sanitation, a functioning social welfare system, improved literacy rates, universal healthcare, and have their basic human rights respected & protected.
I think what u want to see instead is govt building a new city (like Abuja). Well, I hate to break it to you but it's not govts duty to build cities. The govts duty is to create a conducive environment for the private sector to thrive, through GOOD GOVERNANCE. Then business will build the cities. And they have. Almost all our cities (nationwide) have expanded due to new developments. Just have to look at Midrand, Sandton, Centurion. Dude, Jhb & Pretoria are now basically one city because of the new economic developments that have sprung up in Midrand.
Anyway, seeing is believing. Here's SOME of the stuff in SA that wasn't there or have grown exponentially under Black rule - since you said you want verifiable facts.
1. Port of Durban (has become the busiest in Africa) 2. Sandton City (Africa's richest square mile) 3. Gautrain (first high-speed train in Africa) 4. Square Kilometre Array (world largest radio telescope)
5. Mandela Children's Hospital (only one in Africa) 6. World class FOOTBALL stadiums (7) 7. Constitutional Court (defender of our human rights) 8. New universities (including in Soweto)
The bolded is the real thing you did that is necessary for you.
The rest are just to augment what the foreigners had done already.
Pretoria’s diplomats are contending that “Nigeria is obsessed with its competitive attitude towards South Africa”.
The disgusted senior official said the reaction from Nigeria was offensive. “The worst thing to note [is that] the Nigerian government has not issued any statement: no condolences to our government, nor to the families.”
The South African government was forced to find out about the collapse through its own diplomats. This led to President Jacob Zuma announcing the fatalities more than four days after the incident, a delay that has provoked questions over the relationship between the two countries.
The bad relationship between Nigeria and South Africa didn't start during the church palaba. It started way back in 1998 when your people kept killing Nigerians with reckless abandon even with the assistance of your police but your government reaction to killings of Nigeria was lackadaisical. Nigerian government just retaliated.
That is Nigeria's foreign policy. You do me I do you, no wahala.
Take note that I don't support what both government did.
Ibrahimanees: Just like saffer's media is anti Africa? Especially Nigeria? (even though it's not deliberate, the damage is already done)
I read this report titled "Southern Africa Migration Report". According to them, one of the reasons why saffers are xenophobic is the negative report African countries get by SA's media. Especially Nigeria.
Nairaland can give you the wrong perception about how Nigerians think of SA. Before the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in SA, most Nigerians are of the opinion that SA is a beautiful country, "Our" own London in Africa,(there was even an article on BBC about how Nigerians view SA and vice versa) very proud of it, a survey of Nigerians found out that after US and UK, SA is the country most Nigerians will like to visit.
Just look at it from our perspective; A country we like and adored, a country we look at and say "at least one of us (African) can get their sh#t right, only for you to be attacked when you get there. Nobody likes to be rejected. (and some Nigerians do not really help matters with their activities over there)
That said, Nigeria's media coverage of SA is still mostly positive, some Nigerians are still of that opinion too. Just here the oohs and aahs when we played in j'Borg last month only for someone to break the bubble with "that's the country where Nigerians are being killed", the mood was dampened after that.
And I thought white saffers are more demonized than blacks?
That country is a no go area for me. I fear for my life but that was not the case some years ago. I will rather visit Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Egypt etc than visit South Africa.
It is a red zone for Nigerians and Asians because you can be killed at anytime. Too bad.
rvp2018: Like you don't know.Athletes slept for days in your doggy airports waiting for some contraption to fly them to Asaba.Dont talk aviation. We didn't even go to cargo business.
TMKsouth: Are u seriously saying nothing else has been built or good achieved since 1994? Dude, even those things built during apartheid times have been properly maintained or even upgraded to world class status (by a black govt). Our airports & roads being the case in point. Plz plz plz Google OR Tambo International Airport & weep.
You need to end White-Worship. It's bad for the brain.
1. Approximately 12 million households have access to electricity, seven million more than in 1994.
2. South Africa has seen strong growth in the black middle class, believed to have surpassed that of white South Africans several years ago already.
3. Nearly 500 informal settlements have been replaced with quality housing and basic services. Three million free houses have been built, benefiting more than 16 million people.
Foreigners laid the template, built on it and just handed over everthing to you in 1994. You can't dispute that fact.
99% of your cities, infrastructures, economy, roads, railway system, sports, education etcetera were done by them. No doubt about that.
Except you want to prove with verifiable facts that you later built something better than any of these.
Of course, you just built on what has been built though you did something tangible but not as much as what had been done prior 1994. Fact.
rvp2018: Just one or two battles. The most notable resistance against the attempt to impose colonial rule were mounted of course by Ethiopeans. They were the only country to defeat European powers and avoid colonial rule.Somalis also fought a long resistance. The kenya nandis fought the British for 10yrs.The nandis tenacity and fighting spirit is why they dominate middle & long distance globally winning the hardest sport Marathon in every city in the world like it was nothing. The next of PHASE of struggle was the fight against colonoliasm around mid 1950s..and Kenya MauMau with nothing but courage took the Brits on for nearly 10yrs and inspired many other armed resistances in Africa including ANC.Nigeria barely resisted in 1880s and Brits left their country without a fight in 1960s.And looking back they were right..the zoo was not worth it.The most farcical resistance were waged by the lazy cowards TZ called Maji Maji or water water where they attempted Juju and were felled like trees by the Germans.
Because the six days war lasted for 6 days it was not a battle.
Honestly, you have very low IQ and you are devoid of knowledge yet you want to pretend you're the most intelligent person on this thread. Smh.
How long a battle last doesn't matter. What matters is who won at the end of that particular war.
Did he talk about war that involved other European or the British only?
Please, comprehend before you delve into matters.
However, Ethiopia was defeated in the second Italo - Ethiopian war (battle) and was occupied and ruled for 5 year (1936 - 1941) by Emperior Victor Emmanuel III an Italo before the combination of British, French, Commonwealth, Belgium and Ethiopian troops came to the rescue.
But that doesn't change the fact that Ethiopia won the first battle called Battle of Adwa.
Thank God you admitted Nandis and mau mau fights were just mere resistance that was crushed at the end of the day. Bhuhahahaha!
Off course, many countries resisted colonialism including so many tribes in Nigeria eg Ekumeku movement resistance was the longest because it lasted for 31 years. Your mau mau uprising and Nandis were child's play in this regard.
Nevertheless, it didn't change the fact that the Zulus, and Ashantis defeated the British. Even Kosoko did it too.
Runalong333: Kikikiki what are these fairytales all about ? . Go read a book , not a British one you slave . The African tribe to fight the longest war with the British are Igbos, and the only tribe to ever defeat them in any battle are Zulus. Do you know about the Ashantis?. Who the hell is Kenya? . My guy stop your old lies , you don't pay a man after defeating him . If a thug enters my house and takes over, when I gain my strength to fight and defeat him I don't give him money to leave , I kick his ass out . You little Indians are nothing but lying scum. If you owned anything over there with your " great education " , you would dominate trade , manufacturing , safaris and commercial farming , guess what? . You dominate none but slums .
That's right. But I think the Ashantis defeated the British in the Battle of Nsamankow, the same way the Zulus defeated the British in the Battle of Isandlwana although both were later defeated by the same British.
Even Kosoko defeated the British in the first naval battle war called the reduction of Lagos before he was defeated in the second battle.
rvp20183: Do your research and try again to tag along the Azanias. They hate you arse more than they hate white folks. We were first Africans to fight for indepedences. We fought the British.Leave that in East Africa and maybe west Africa we resisted Colonial rule the longest. That is why our flag has red color to denote the blood we shed to kick the Brits. Many armed resistance took inspiration from our fights including ANC.British never thought much would come of Nigeria and gave it up without one single shot.60yrs later and they were right. Next time you see our prominently red flag just know we started armed bloody resistance against the British long before Brits came to rescue you from Hausa slave trades.
Which year did KENYA fight for independence? You lie too much.
rvp20183: They are hopeless in Kenya. The have made five years loses plus. They hired a Kenyan who made them 20k USD profit then they fired him.Nigeria can't hack if South Africa struggle.Only Old Mutual and Alexender can coz they were here during even apertheid.Kenyan banks are rewriting banking as we speak..which why interest capping has not had such adverse effects.Shoprite and Game are here after death of Nakumatt but it won't be long.. before their butt get kicked. The French Carrefour will remain coz they are truly world class.Kenyans will understudy them like they did to the Brits and one mishap..they are out.
Kenya is not a level playing field for foreigners. Full of corruption.
rvp2018: Based on what - Nigeria buying PayNet from the Zimbwabwean who are running lose making ATM services. I think Kenya banks are far more sophisticated than any in SSA outside South Africa. Our banks are very innovative, very nimble, and very profitable despite the interest capping now.
You know for many decades Barclays and StanChart were kenya biggest bank - but right now - they are on their way out of the top 10 biggest banks - because kenyan local banks are so innovative and competitive.
Nigerian banks in Kenya are making losses - and have no chance in hell - while Kenya banks are kicking arse all the way to Congo. The biggest innovation right now revolves around Agent and Mobile banking - and Nigeria JUST CANT hack it - while Kenya are on steroids on both counts.
Stop fooling yourself. Nigeria Banks have gone beyond Congo in Africa to other continents.
Mobile banking? Bhuhahahaha! You told Nigeria don't have Mobil banking? I can send money without internet. I can transfer with internet or via ATM. That is what is called sophistication.
My friend, stick to your pond Kenya. You don't have an idea of what you are talking.
Ibrahimanis: So US GDP is cooked too , because despite it's bigger economy, it's banking assets is smaller than Japan's.
Bank assets to GDP does not mean anything. It just shows that there are other sector bigger than banking. Lebanon's Bank assets to GDP is higher than Japan's or China's does that mean it's banking sector is bigger?
rvp2018: Okay let clear this some basics first. 1) Banking assets - we are looking at in-country data has compiled by Nigeria and Kenya central banks. GT Bank Kenya bank assets will be under Kenya - not under Nigeria.
You need to ask Central Bankers why they analyze banking sector assets amongst other metrics.
2) Pretty good indicator - doesn't mean the only indicator - but trust me - the bank strength or arsenal is it's assets. Even if you banks had the best intentions, everyone had a bank account, and name all the other indicators - all that will come to cropper without strong balance sheet to lend or invest the money.
3) You're only arguing because Nigeria banking assets clearly exposes your over-cooked economy. You see South Africa has 370B banking assets. Nigeria which claim to be bigger has 100B. Kenya has 40B. That is all the argument is all about.
4) Population is factored everywhere we are talking about human activities. How would we not factor that?
Long story short - Kenya beat Nigeria in banking sector - you look for any other indicators - including Financial Access - and you'll not argue.
And this is one of the sector Nigeria is doing good after the reforms(forced mergers & acquisition) of 2000s.
Yes! Kenya beat Nigeria on Nairaland banking. Bhuhahahaha!
