I see you're cherry picking kenya companies and throwing the usual Nigeria lies. Kenya economy is more advanced than you Oil-dependant economy. Deal with it. This economy that doesn't depend on minerals and is attracting global capital.

And if you disagree then prove it by competing with Africans.
1) Sign and ratify ECOWAS custom union - compete with even Ghana
2) Sign and ratify Africa Free Trade.
3) Do not import tomato paste and milk powder for crying out loud.
What can Ghana produce that they want to compete with us? Ghanians are free to export their goods to Nigeria but we will not allow Europe use that avenue to cajole us into signing agreement that will crumble our manufacturing industry.

West African states have nothing to lose except Nigeria because we will be competing with Europe.

Our shoe industry almost collapsed this year because we opened the door for cheap China made shoes.

We can't compete with these countries.

Nigeria has the biggest tomatoes paste factory and it is the fourth largest in the world. This is owned by a Nigerian and not foreigners. grin

You can see why we are bent on protecting our market. grin

We have our own issues but they are not as intractable as Nigeria's. Yes we should be with South Korea as a developed nation but we faced our own mostly created issues - including breeding like Nigerian rats - before we took family planning seriously - corruption & name - but we now we are on the right track. Nigeria is completely de-railed.
Who created the issues?

Na me?

No!

It shows how incompetent your country is at resolving issues. Even if you had oil, you will still not be better off than Ghana and Senegal not to talk of South Korea. grin

Your population and lack of natural resources should not be used as an excuse if you are not two times better than Ghana and Senegal or equal with South Korea. Shame on you.

You're repeating yourself. Don't go that far. There are countries in Africa that are better than Kenya. All the Supra/Arab countries for starters. Then add South Africa, Mauritus, Botswana and Namibia.

Only a Nigerian fool will argue with second world country like South Africa!!

Kenya is indeed a poor country (lower middle class) - but it's progressing very fast - and in another generation - we should be talking something else.

Kenya has it's own issues - that we readily admit - and we are busy fixing them. Not denying them.
South Korea doesn't have one drop of oil but still better than KENYA 1m times, why? grin

Don't let our colonial inheritance fool you. You should remember that infrastructure catered only for 20% of the population. The task for the ANC and all people of SA was to develop the townships & rural areas, as well as raising living standards for 100% of the population. In that regard they have achieved FAR MORE than any colonial or apartheid govt has.

I provided you with a list of 10 things the ANC has done well. U chose to ignore them bcoz all u want to see are new cities with skyscrapers. I gave u the Sandton, Midrand, Centurion examples. U also ignored them.

This country has an annual +/- $100B budget to carry out services in the public interest. Yes, some of it is squandered/misappropriated but decent services are carried out. You think all that expenditure has got us stuck in one place? Our quality of life FAR exceeds yours.
Who built 99% percent of your roads, Hospitals, schools (universities), electricity, planned cities, economy, multinationals companies, tourism, health care service, railway system, transportation, etcetera? grin

If you can answer this question, then you will be validated. grin

Your quality of life exceeds us. No doubt about it but who made it work?

Well, I wonder how one who is jobless can live a quality life because your employment rate is alarming. grin

53 percent of your youths are jobless but you think jobless souls are living quality life. Bhuhahahaha. grin

That was how you claimed we don't have good hospitals in Nigeria but the ranking below shows your hospitals are not that far ahead of ours. Bhuhahahaha! grin

**** You see, urban poverty (just as seen in Kenya) is supposed to be the true definition of poverty according to western statistics.
Classifying Rural poverty in the African context is quite skewed because monetary evaluations do not just add up considering how rural africans live.
I as a person don't trust the westerners when it comes to something like this. I could remember how IMF persuaded us to borrow money from them after they predicted the heaven will fall if we don't but nothing happened.

I have not seen 86m people living in extreme poverty in all the places I have been to in Nigeria. It even contradict our unemployment stats.

Dude, your country is 58 years old now! How long are you gonna concentrate on getting the infrastructure in place (which the whole world agrees that you still by far lacking) before you put shoulder to the wheel in vastly improving your HDI levels.

Your people are desperately seeking medical help overseas, studying in foreign universities, drowning in the Mediterranean in search of greener pastures. I've never ever ever heard of Kenyans resorting to such measures in a desperate attempt to escape the conditions at home (even though they have a meagre $60 bln economy - as all of u like to mock).

As for Abuja & Lagos being World-Class cities, i'll leave that to the gallery to judge (it's like you didn't read the article on what constitutes a WCC). Don't even get me started on Eko Atlantic being a WCC. Did u say you have ALREADY built it? undecided Yoh!
Your are trying hard to shy away from the simple fact that outsiders built your country's infrastructures 300 years before you got freedom. You can't compare the development put in place within that time frame with a country of 58 years old. That is the point.

Therefore, I don't think you would have been better off as you are now if you were left to start from the scratch as other Africans did. Count yourself lucky.

So, stop pretending you are better off without assistance. No, you should not have.

Desperately seeking for medical help oversea!? Why is our population increasing if you think there is no quality health services in Nigeria?

My friend, even South Koreans, Japanese, European etcetera are studying in foreign universities that are better than theirs.

There are many factors that leads to Nigeria going abroad to study.

1. If someone wants to do masters or PhD to boast his/her CV, he/shr will enroll to Havard or one prestigious universities abroad.

2. if the course one wishes to study is not available in any of our universities, he or she will seek for where to fulfill his/her dream.

3. if you are rich then you go abroad.

4. Foreign scholarship etcetera

My friend, you are talking as if our universities are empty. Far from it. However, the same Nigeria's universities have produced world achievers.

You say you never heard of Kenyan's desperate journeys to Europe!? grin

You go here am today. grin. Read. grin

That's the facts,

But don't console your self by trying to make us feel as northern Nigeria is in a different country or the old stories of coup,

It's only from the last decade that your country has swindled in almost all the positive spheres

On cars ownership per capita, what u just stated is blatant lies, Ken 1000/30. NIG 1000/20...

But what matters most is
How many of you lives below poverty line by %ge
What percentage of you can read and write?
How about reliable electricity supply?
Which %ge of child mortality do you have per 1000
How about security, how safe are you(remember this is about the entire country, no North or South)
What about your gen healthcare services?
How competent is your economy? How diversified is it?
How innovative are you? Where do you rank in Africa?
How about the ease of doing business?

Kenya beats you in all of the latter.

Your population should be your advantage, it's a liability bcz it's not educated, unempowered...and the list is endless

It's been proven here that most of your economic sectors can only produce twice as that of Kenya, and your population is ×4, that shows one Kenyan is twice as economically productive than a Nigerian

We also have our poor northern part
Stop Lying. We have done the service sector and Nigeria beat Kenya almost ×4.

And stop hidding behind population just to cover your incompetency because small countries with lesser than Kenyan population still beat you wella. grin

FULL REPORT (What Makes a City World-Class?)
https://www.forbes.com/2009/09/02/new-york-paris-mumbai-rome-berlin-opinions-21-century-cities-09-world-class-cities.html

FORBES MAGAZINE (2009)

Let’s be honest: There are some cities in the world that are worse–much worse–than others, cities from which a multitude would flee if offered half a chance to relocate elsewhere. Lagos comes to mind, as do Karachi, Lima, Nairobi, Cairo, Caracas, Dhaka, Jakarta, Manila … these are utterly charmless cities (such charm as there once was in a few of them has been murdered by noise, traffic, a teeming population, dirt and crime); these are edgy, aggressive and inhospitable cities, cities in which contempt for the resident is everywhere apparent, cities with few parks and sidewalks, and with scarcely any of the amenities that comprise the core of urban civilization.

So what, by contrast, makes up a city that people would opt to live in, to travel to, to long for? What makes a city, in effect, the Anti-Lagos or the Un-Caracas or the Not-Manila? What makes a city world-class, cosmopolitan and alluring? What makes a city, in sum, truly civilized? In pursuit of answers, I talked to a dozen urban and urbane people (accomplished city-dwellers all), who each gave me a personal reckoning–sometimes idiosyncratic–of what a city of this caliber must have. Their responses follow.

(Details on points below can be found on link at top of this page)

1. Beauty at Night
2. Good public Toilets
3. Filthy-Rich People
4. A Great Train Station
5. Bars with Great Bartenders
6. Great Universities
7. Arresting Architecture
8. Diversity
9. An Encyclopedic Museum
10. Two Airports (one International, one Regional).

You & I are gonna go round and round in circles. Clearly you value highrise buildings over a holistic Human Development Index approach. I don't know how many times you've asked how many new cities we've built. (EXHAUSTING)

SA couldn't (and shouldn't) have wasted public funds replicating inherited colonial cities in perfectly good condition at the expense of improving access to good healthcare, education, etc. to the previously disadvantaged majority.

In your case u argue u practically built your own cities from scratch. However, Nigeria has some of the lowest levels of access to quality (even basic) healthcare, education, social welfare, etc.

(Bolded) Anyway, check out my new thread of what constitutes A WORLD CLASS city before throwing that term around. It's under the TRAVEL SECTION.
Where did you see in my post I emphasized on building 'World class city?

I said world class infrastructures and that was the reason I used building of universities as an example.

Off course, we did built world class cities like Abuja, Eko Atlantic and Lagos but that is just part of the fraction of infrastructures on ground.

However, how do you improve human development without infrastructure?

The point still remains that those infrastructures were already put in place before you augment on them. It's as simlple as that and you can't deny this pure undiluted fact.

Nobody said you should waste public funds to build cities because we all know there was no need for that since it was already on ground.

Unfortunately, the impression given by you and what you want us to believe is that you did everything without any outsiders assistant. That is not true.

Nevertheless, I acknowledge you have improved on the infrastructures on ground afterwards. Do you get the gist?
