The other way did not remove sin it only covers it. There was no salvation in the old times. The dead people did not go to heaven until Jesus. God introduced the sacrifices as a type of the perfect sacrifice that was to come. The sacrifices could not clean sin but only cover them for a while.
Jesus was the idea from genesis. If you read the prophecies in the old Testament God was talking about a time when he will no longer be angry with man a time whn their righteousness will be from him. All these Jesus came to fulfill.
God did not forget. Jesus came when all the words spoken about him were complete.

i said what he saw was an evil spirit who claimed to be Gabriel. Its clear he saw something when he went to the cave, something that terrified him. And we know that angels that bring messages of peace do not scare people, in fact in the bible, most say 'don't be afraid'
When he came he said to his audience I am the way. The reason for sacrifices etc was to cover sin the in old testament, Jesus cam as the final sacrifice. To put an end to all sacrifices he was the perfect sacrifice and after he died he became the only way to be saved

The big picture is that God promised Jesus from Genesis and he was sent in the new testament times. Jesus in other part said he is the way to God, not just in John 3 vs 16. He said this severally. All the gospels have their distinct stories, you dont expect them to copy themselves word for word. The consistent theme in the gospels is the Jesus is the only way for man to be saved.

You not looking at the big picture. All the prophets prophesied about Jesus. His lineage can be traced back to Adam. Jesus is the reason the bible was written. the bible is not a book that contains a list of laws to be obeyed so you can be saved. Its a book introducing God's plan from Genesis; that is Jesus. If you read the words of Jesus, its simple to be saved but hardness of heart and pride is what is blocking your mind from accepting him.
