The shareholders of DFM have been paid off for about three years now or so by Olam. I guess that is why there is a bottleneck. Actually, it can only be done through the registrars so you just need to be on their neck.

For IBTC shares since you bought from the primary market, you suppose to have the certificate. If you don't have it, visit First Registrars with your means of identification to complain of no certificate. At the registrar's office, you will be given a form to be processed by your broker. When they are through with the process, you will have the shares in your cscs account and will be able to sell yourself if they have an online platform or you give a sell mandate to your broker.

Thank you

For the DFM u can personally make an enquiry from SEC to ascertain the truth of what they told you. As for IBTC, take the share certificate for verification via their registrar when the shares is verified into your CScs account then you can sell. I will advice u do that timely now that the price is up.

Thank you

Hello everyone,
I am new here.
I have few questions

My Dangote flour mills shares payment has not been made by the registrar. Crescent registrars keeps saying it's until SEC approves it. This has been going on since early last year. What can I do about it

My second question is I have IBTC share i bought during their IPO, I want to sell it but my broker UNEX capital says it not with them since I bought it myself. I collect dividend for it directly in my account. The question is how can I sell the shares I didn't buy through a broker.

Thanks

School owner and uncle-parent here:

I suggest that you make homework/talking about school a normal, relaxed part of daily life. Set aside 1 - 3 hours every day for you and your kid(s) to talk about school and to do homework.

You could integrate it into another part of the day like dinner.

You learn A LOT if you listen to your kids. You will also imbibe in them the habit of talking to you calmly every single day. This is how you will be able to catch things in the bud (abuse, relationships, sadness) and be able to better prepare & react.

1-3hr daily is almost impossible because everyone is tired as a result of the busy day, 30mins could work during week days and maybe 1hr plus on weekend. thanks

not all school events are equally important

As parents, we all want to give our children the best within our reach. How do you cope with following up on your child's home work and general academic performance as a busy parent.
Does your boss give you permission to attend school open day and other activities? or you find other parents, who can do it on your behalf?

studies have shown how important it is to participate in all of these school events , but how do you cope?

2019 cowbellpedia. so much excitement going on
Education / Cowbellpedia And The Winning Schools by Foundationchamp(f): 1:16pm On Aug 06, 2019
The schools that will win the Cowbellpedia mathematics competition are easily predictable. Following the just concluded cowbellpedia 2018, One could have guessed that a student of Graceland international school would win. As this school has been among the top finalist for the past few years. The same goes for the Ambassador college Ota; they have recurrently won the completion for years in a roll. Two students from Graceland international school made it to the grand finale, while four students from the ambassador college got to the finals

The demand for experience is high, when seeking for a Job. After obtaining a tertiary education, employers expect graduates to have a certain level of skill. Companies often say a large number of graduate are unemployable because they want employees that can take on task immediately under little or no supervision. Skill acquisition can help bridge that gap. Also, It can take you from being an unemployable graduate to a valuable asset. When employers see the potential you offer, they will not hesitate to hire you. It is a competitive advantage to be Valuable.

so what skill do you want to acquire to boost your C.V? and can you use it as a business

A child that is extremely brilliant may get double promotion in primary school hence at the age of 8 or 9 years he or she can get to JSS 1. Aside that, some kids skips JSS 2 and SS2. It should be noted that not all kids writes national common entrance examination since there many private secondary schools everywhere.
To answer your question, I advice 10 years.

even private schools want children age 10 and above, due to maturity issues not necessarily academics.
Education / What Age Is The Best To Send My Child To Secondary School by Foundationchamp(f): 4:24pm On Jul 30, 2019
The minimum secondary school age requirement for the National common entrance examination (NCEE) is ten years. we have students graduating university at 18/19 year old.how is that even possible. secondary school takes 6 years and 4 years minimum for B.Sc in Nigeria
10 + 6+ 4 = 20 years. maybe everyone is schooling abroad. what age do you think a child is matured enough for secondary school especially boarding school.

The age restriction is not limited to public schools. Most private schools have it clearly stated in their admission policies not to admit children less than age 10 or 11 as the case may be. Loyola Jesuit, for instance, stipulates that the pupil must have reached the age of 11 or close to it by resumption of the session. While Day Waterman college clearly states that a child must be 11 years old by the 30th September of the year of admission. A host of other schools like Olashore international school, Nigeria Turkish international school propose age 10 in the year of entry as their age limit.

Outlier: a person or thing differing from all other members of a particular group.
Education / Understanding The Elements Of Success And How To Take Advantage Of It by Foundationchamp(f): 9:06am On Jul 26, 2019
Introduction

Have you ever wondered why some people are so skilful, brilliant or so good at what they do? You do admire successful people like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Michael Jordan, Stephen King, Serena Williams, to mention a few. Outliers, as they are known, have more than just talents working for them. Their success is as a result of so many factors, which you need to understand for a fresh perspective.

You begin to wonder why you have not got any of these skills to a professional level. Some of the things to put into consideration are; where you were born, what was happening at the time, and what were people passionate about while growing up. Consequently, If we take a critical look at the lives of successful people, relative to the environment they grew up in and what was happening at that time. It might help us analyse the things needed for success, as against just looking at them as individuals.

Opportunity

Imagine children born in this era of rapid technological advancement, with programming been at the core of it. The opportunity is more open for them to succeed in it, since learning it is easily accessible now. A parent won’t have to look far to join the train of those with kids who code. It goes to show that the children are already favoured, born at the time when STEM education can reach them. Those who begin to learn to code at an early age will soon become proficient in it, older generations could not benefit from this.

Although, programming has been around since, it just became really known in Nigeria. There are so many STEM centres operating in Nigeria, especially during the summer holiday. In Lagos we have WAAW Foundation Bootcamp, in Port Harcourt there is 9jacodekids, and in Abuja, there is STEM CLUB. Emerging professions are always updated on the internet, so we are not in the dark with what is going on, in any part of the world. The internet has made information accessible.

Success takes more than Intelligience

We often believe success is solely for the gifted; a quality owned from birth. You must have come across people, you thought would be successful due to their brainpower. Disappointment happens due to the emphasis placed on intelligence, neglecting the hard work and the mentorship towards it. IQ alone cannot make someone successful; they have to work hard to ingrain it. Looking at the life of someone like Dangote, he was not known to be the best in school. Intelligence does play a role, but the highest IQ doesn’t equate the most successful.

In other words, we should lay more emphasis on what matters, letting children know that hard work and persistence are as significant as having a bright mind.

Cultural/Environmental Factors

In addition, exposure matters a lot. A child who has been exposed to a lot of books, by parents who are in the Academia, then go on to become a writer, journalist, lecturer or something in that line shouldn’t come as a surprise to us. Let us take a look at Chimamanda Adichie; her parents were staff of the University of Nigeria, her father was a professor of statistics, while her mother was the university's first female registrar. It goes to show that her childhood exposure has contributed to her success as a writer.

Naturally, we would not expect a cattle rearer to be well acquainted with the best season for planting tomatoes, but he is expected to be knowledgeable about the breed types and other things cattle related. Considering this and other factors to be learnt, we can influence the chance of success of our children. Therefore, We have to make a conscious effort to expose them to things that are beneficial in the long term.

The 10,000 hr rule

The time spent in performing a particular task is also a contributory factor to success. Consistency, improvement and practice are essential criteria for achievement. Lionel Messi for instance was exposed to football at an early age. he was always playing football with his older siblings. Messi joined a local football club, Grandoli at the age of four. It shows that timely exposure is vital, and practising often is also key. Another example is Serena Williams, who also started practising tennis at the age of four. The starting ages are not just a coincidence, It proves that starting early is crucial.
