The All Progressives Congress, APC, has said contrary to the information being peddled by the spokesman of the Jonathan Campaign Organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, the party does not wish him any ill health, even though it is seriously concerned about his mental state. “No, we have never and will never wish anyone any ill health. However, we are seriously concerned that Mr. Fani-Kayode may have unhinged, perhaps as a result of a relapse into an unhealthy lifestyle of substance abuse,” the party said in a statement issued in Dubai on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed. “Our concern stems from the series of incoherent statements, outlandish claims and inconsistent behaviours exhibited by Mr. Fani-Kayode in recent times, which call into question his state of mental health. “We wish Mr. Fani-Kayode well and call on him to tell Nigerians that he remains clean, despite the massive pressure of work, and that he will not do anything that will see him needing a prolonged reformation in a foreign land,” it said. APC said it is only an unstable mind and someone who is teetering on the brink that will conjure up the kind of improbable scenarios that have been put out there in quick succession by Mr. Fani- Kayode, and still believe strongly that he is doing the right thing. The party said the APC does not harbour the kind of disturbed personalities who abound in the PDP, and who will not hesitate to publicly wish fellow Nigerians ill or dead, as long as they believe such ill- will would endear them to their masters and guarantee their political survival. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/177775-fani-kayode-suffering-from-substance-abuse-apc.html |

The former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, will only be re-admitted into Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, if he tenders an “unreserved apology” to the party, an official has said. Walid Jibrin, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the party, stated this at his country home in Marmara, Nasarawa State, on Saturday. Mr. Obasanjo’s membership card was publicly torn by one of his supporters when the former president recently announced his exit from the ruling party. “Obasanjo must offer unreserved apology before he is admitted and his card re-issued,” Mr. Jibrin stated at a ceremony to announce the defection of his son, Imrana Jibrin, from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the PDP. Mr. Obasanjo’s decision to dump the party on whose platform he led Nigeria for 8 years followed his disagreement with President Goodluck Jonathan and some of the party’s leaders, particularly fugitive politician, Buruji Kashamu. The former president accused Mr. Jonathan of several things including reneging an agreement not to seek a second term in office, and handing over the party’s structure in Ogun State to Mr. Kashamu, who is wanted in the U.S. for drug-related offences. He has also been very critical of Mr. Jonathan’s performance as president. Mr. Obasanjo is believed to be supporting the candidature of Muhammadu Buhari of the APC against Mr. Jonathan for the March 28 presidential election; and has not made any effort to return to the PDP despite appeals by some of the party’s leaders. Speaking on Saturday, Mr. Jibrin said although the party would be glad to receive Obasanjo back to its fold, he would have to apologise. He said Mr. Obasanjo will be accorded his rightful place if he returns as he served the party meritoriously and the reasons for his exit were very unfortunate. “Even Obasanjo who tore our card, if he decides to say I want a new card we will give him and he will apologise to Nigerians and our party, the PDP, then we will bring him back. “Our party is a disciplined party and disciplines every member from the lowest to the highest,” the official said. The former senator said that the future of Nigeria’s democracy lies in the PDP, which he said has the capacity to address the country’s challenges. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/177725-obasanjo-must-apologise-to-be-re-admitted-to-pdp-official.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

End time things |
I remember vividly on presidential media chat, GEJ said there's no plan to sack Jega or forcing him to go on terminal leave |
Speculations that President Goodluck Jonathan intends to fire the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Attahiru Jega, before the general elections, intensified Friday after the Federal Government refused to give a clear commitment on the matter. Responding to concerns that the electoral chief would soon be mandated to proceed on a terminal leave, the Minister of Information, Edem Duke, gave an uncertain response, saying Mr. Jega’s exit will follow a “natural course”. Although he re-echoed President Goodluck Jonathan’s comments last two weeks that he had not informed anyone of any plans to sack the INEC boos, Mr. Duke said that did not imply that when it is time for Mr. Jega “to naturally exit his office, then the natural course of things will not take place”. “I think all of that is in the terrain of the Presidency and he has spoken. I have nothing to add to that,” he added. On Thursday, members of the Nigerian Senate belonging to the All Progressives Congress, APC, had accused Mr. Jonathan of plotting to ask Mr. Jega to proceed on pre-retirement leave next week. They promised to resist the alleged plot. Mr. Duke criticised the APC for fuelling speculations about Mr. Jega’s removal. “I will also like to say once on that issue. I recall that for several weeks now, people keep threatening the President on the shift in the date of the poll. You begin to wonder that parties have a couple of extra weeks in order to reinvigorate their campaigns and try to reach as many voters as possible,” he said. “Rather than do that, you begin to identify imaginary pockets of unlikely developments and then focus your attention on them and then when you lose election, you begin to complain.” Northern elders reject move to sack Jega Meanwhile, the Northern Elders Forum has warned the presidency to jettison any plot to remove Mr. Jega head of the general elections, saying such move will be a ”recipe for disaster”. The spokesperson for the group, Ango Abdullahi, said “any attempt at this last minute by this government or its agency to remove Jega is a clear message that this government is determined to rig an election in which they see Jega as an impediment simply because he thinks that the commission must follow the rules for a free and fair and credible election”. Sacking “Jega at this material time will be a recipe for disaster”, Mr. Abdullahi warned at a press conference Friday. He said the excuse given for postponement of the general elections, earlier scheduled for February 14 and 28, to March 28 and April 11, was “flimsy, clumsy and indefensible”. Speaking against background of security concern cited for the poll shift, he said, “the NEF viewed it as unacceptable because only a small fraction of the security personnel in the country are directly engaged in the battle against insurgency within the north east enclave of the country. “We also know that even in countries such as Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan , Sri Lanka and more recently Afghanistan where full scale wars were still raging when they decided that election could still be held and indeed were held.” Stating further, he accused the “the ruling elite” of plot to scuttle the elections and ultimately Nigeria’s democracy. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/177667-sacking-jega-recipe-for-disaster-northern-elders.html |
