Politics › Re: On South South And Biafra.. An Urhobo's View by franconian: 3:01am On Oct 15, 2015*. Modified: 9:46pm On Nov 24, 2015 |
ogheneoreva: My name is OrevaOghene.I am an Urhobo with an Anang mother.I felt obliged to key in on the debate of South South and the Biafran cause. I am currently an undergraduate of Economics at the university of uyo.Let me state that my argument is due to economic considerations and not political.
Let me begin by correcting the dichotomy between the South South and South East-they are merely political zones. There are Igbos in Ogwashukwu in Delta,Asaba has an obi....the Governor is even Igbo. That's Delta. In Rivers state a place known as obIGBO,there is very little difference between an Etche an Aba persons.....Even the current Governor likens himself to Ojukwu. That's Rivers state In Akwa Ibom where I school the Annang once answered oka for -my maternal grandfather explained that its because of the civil war that they stopped using such names..due to the advancing Nigerian troops..The average Ibibio is more money conscious and cunning. The tortoise is the folklore hero in both cultures.
So I wish to plead forthwith to stop using the term South South...... It doesn't exist. The term Niger Delta and Biafran is more attuned to our cause. The term South is another divide and conquer method by the born to rule.
My uncle ran from Borno last year September he still spends his days talking of how evil the Hausa people are....A story of his that made me shiver is that of an Ibibio woman Abasifreke Asuquo(her soul rest in peace). She mistakenly used a piece of paper to clean her baby's anus ...that paper turned out to be a Qur'an. The woman was butchered and the baby's anus was Pierced with a stick that came out of his mouth. Are they humans at all...to cap it all they moved with the Pierced baby around the neighborhood. Despite the pleading of her relatives and the local Ibibio community.
I don't want to live with such barbarism. Not in the same country at least.
The Igbo man is after success so am I ..and so are we.For over 40 years they have done nothing successful. They say Jonathan is corrupt.. Come to Rivers state and see what the money is doing..... The oil is even ours. This same Buhari was serving as PTF chairman when Kenule Beesom Sarowiwa was killed by Abacha. And still insists that Abacha never stole.
Well to conclude the average Niger Deltan has resigned his fate that nothing can change.. That he will continue in poverty while wealth is tapped from under his soil. And whoever says Asari is a nobody in The Niger Delta is to be ignored... Every body in the South knows and loves that man.He is our hero...so if it's to be Biafra.... Let it be....
Let me state most importantly that I don't believe in human government or it's promises........ This post is merely to end to the SE/SS political Dichotomy...... Thanks and have a pleasant day OP, I read your post with the hope of finding reasons why an Urhobo would be a proponent of Biafra. I'm not sure if you gave one. First, you said you are Oreva, to the best of my knowledge, Oreva is not an Urhobo name. It's an Isoko name. Oreva, you should know that Delta has many ethnic groups, of which the Anioma(Delta-Ibos) is just one of them. This post would have been more acceptable if it was from a Delta-Ibo. The fact that Urhobo shares the same state with the Ibos does not make an Urhoboman an Iboman. They call themselves the "indigenous people of Biafra". The IPOB never thought of including Urhobo in their struggle untill they realized they would need their "brothers" to win the struggle. They will only use and dump you. Listen to me my brother, when it comes to political matters, an Ibo man refers to another iboman from Delta as a fake Iboman, how much an Urhoboman? If you are truly an Urhoboman, I wouldn't doubt your abilities when it comes to accommodating strangers politically or otherwise, but you should know that the Ibos are very different. You may not be happy with Nigeria, but joining the Ibos to agitate for Biafra would b a great disservice to yourself and to your unborn kids. |

sweatlana: The truth of the matter is that both ibori and alamieyeseigha are victims of the struggle for resource control! Not that they did anything that other governors did not do but their speaking up for the rights of their people destroyed them....
That is why they are popular and much loved till this day by the Niger Delta.
For those of you from the south south supporting apc I pray that God will open yours eyes to see that the conspiracy is real. All these people want is our oil. They don't care about our people once the oil drys up they will push us out of this so called one Nigeria.
Ask your selves this: why are all the idol billionaire in the north not being hunted like our people in the south south? Because any of us with a financial muscle is a threat to their agenda! Open your eyes SOUTH SOUTH ARISE!!! You are right, Ibori struggled for resource control by "controlling" billions of the state's common wealth into foreign banks, most of which will never return to the Nigerian economy. What a legendary way to seek resource control! How can you demand for justice with stained hands? |

He Is just being a scape goat. I'm not an APC supporter for your information. At some points in our pursuit of a better Nigeria, there have to be scapegoats. Saw a place where it was mentioned that one is required to scan a national ID card or international passport, or either of Utility Bill bearing one's name or a driving licence. But I have non of that. Can I use my National Voter's card in place of that National ID card? Yes, use the V/N on your voter's card! |

HeelsEmpire: Now, for any budding e-commerce founder/owner, you all have probably read it all from the OP and other great contributors. This is no cake-walk!
NO! you won't get as BIG as the big J and K in one year. The earlier you wake up to that reality, the further we can get on with this contribution. Please do not open an online store just because everyone is doing it, or you think it's a cool idea or perhaps you think you'll be making lots of money.
Starting out an ecommerce requires lots of discipline, a douse of hard work and smart work. Lots of failures along the way too, but eventually after graduating from Persistence class and going through all that trouble to get your brand known, the rest becomes easy from there on out.
There are actually rules to owning/running an ecommerce site, in my humble opinion, these are some of the things we've learned over here at Heels Empire ;
1. Be honest with your customers from the jump. You would be offline before you even get started if you start off being dishonest to even a single customer. Bad news does travel really fast! In Nigeria, people refer other people whenever their needs have been properly met by a particular company or brand. Cultivate this goodwill.
Just like the OP mentioned, if that shoe you're about selling is made in China, but has a 60‰ quality rating, please let the customer know upfront. This saves you lots of headache.
2. Go crazy on your customer care/support. So you got a buyer to trust you enough to buy off you, but most businesses never check back with the customer to be sure they're enjoying their purchase. And those that do only do so only after a sale has been made. However, you should learn to check with the customer 2 months down the road. This also helps you as an e-commerce owner reaffirm the fact that your supplier(s) sells quality products, hence giving you a morale boost when trying to convince a customer to buy off you.
3. Relax on the paid advertisement. I know some seasoned vets here would choose to differ on this one, but we've learnt the hard way! Don't get me wrong though, I'm not telling you not to spend money advertising, all I'm saying is.. Don't start out throwing money you can't afford to loose on advertising. Paid advertising is a science that requires lots of metrics. Until you know where your potential customers hangout, please apply caution when paying to get traffic.
Websites like Nairaland and Facebook Ads offer the best cheapest ways to validate your paid ad campaigns and peoples perception about your product or brand. This point requires a long post all by itself!
4. Come correct with that website . Lol! Someone is probably wondering "what the heck is she talking about?!?". Here is what I mean.. Nigerians are getting into the e-commerce and online shopping frenzy. So budding e-commerce owners just want to jump online and make bank, hence they do so with a terribly built website. The truth is, the way your website looks does say a lot about those at the helm of affairs to customers. A shabby looking website isn't a good way to win customers trust.
If you can't afford a good web developer to give you that great-looking online presence, I'd advise you start out with platforms like Kaymu, Konga and Jumia. Heck, Gtbank also offers similar platforms for people to own their own stores without the web designers wahala. So make good use of those platforms!
I can go on and on about the things I've learned over here, but then again boring you all with these epistles surely isn't my intent. Lol!
Nice thread by the way, OP!
I have to run before my "Oga at the top" fires me for not getting stuff done. The Gtb platform, how does it work? Please throw more light on this! |

There is one cooking mistake I can't forget in a hurry. It was the very first egusi soup I made in the Uni, I just don't want anyone to know that I don't know how to cook, so I did it my way. Guess what? I added curry and thyme generously to my egusi soup Mehn the aroma na die but I nor send, I eat am still. My roommates nor bother near the food. They were even advicing me to throw it away cos the aroma/smell was something else. For night, na so my belle come dey rise like balloon... Well, the next morning, no one told me to throw it away before I did. I called my mum to ask her why she added curry and thyme to ma foodstuff. After sometime, I attempted to cook again, this time I chose vegetable (ugwu and waterleaf) soup. When a roommate said he was hungry I asked him to take soup from the pot. The guy opened the pot and was like "O boy this thing na soup abi na herbal medicine?" He covered the pot and said "a beg my guy nor vex, na joke I dey joke...I nor dey hungry" . Those were the good old days, even babes now dey envy my cooking skills |
