Politics › Re: I Pity Tinubu If He Approves Unsustainable Minimum Wage - Soludo by franconian: 11:51pm On Jun 12, 2024 |
casualobserver: You say you want a technocrat, he is giving you the facts from the lens of a technocrat. You cannot have a country with a gdp per capita of N150k a month and pay the minimum worker even N100k. I have been saying it for weeks, you cannot pay a man more than his output and the reality is that the output of the Nigerian worker is very low N150k a month on average. Average according to civil service scale is a graduate with a few years experience.
Minimum wage is not supposed to “take you home”. You are not supposed to be comfortable on minimum wage otherwise you would have no incentive to improve yourself or your productivity.
If you read my posts on the subject for the last 2 weeks, you will see Soludo is echoing exactly what I have been saying.
1) He said nowhere in the world do you pay a minimum wage higher than 30% of GDP per capita. 2) he spoke about the productivity of the Nigerian worker. 3) he spoke about effects of Udoji award of 1973.
All these things I have been hammering. Abeg nor vex ooo, I get many questions wey I wan ask you. What exactly is the output of our public officials to warrant them earning millions (some tens of millions) monthly? What percentage of GDP per capita should public officials earn? What percentage of GDP per capita should be used to purchase official vehicles for public officials? Shouldn't all what you've been saying apply to public officials and their appointees too. I honestly believe all public office holders in Nigeria are earning way more than their output. If you believe this too, please apply this GDP per capita calculation and tell us what these public officials should take home. Let's start from there. |

Sowore is not a good soul I must admit, what Sowore did is un-African. But what is a frail elderly man doing leading a very troubled nation like ours? Don't you think he's actually the one making jest of himself? |

BigDawsNet: If Government can print money
Then why are we paying taxes?!? Taxes are paid from actual economic activities. Before you pay tax, you must have carried out an economic activity. But government just printing money to meet its needs will eventually make too much money to be in circulation, this will lead to crazy devaluation and inflation. Soon you'll need a full Ghana-must-go bag of naira to buy a loaf of bread. |

The moment you buy anything not made in Nigeria, that more pressure against the Naira We've been buying things not made in Nigeria before APC. Buhari borrowed so much with nothing to show for it. Now they are saying debts service gulps 70% of dollar outflow in Q1, they are even depleting our foreign reserve to service debt, this is one major reason the naira is losing value. Meanwhile, the government has not stopped the borrow FX for frivolities habit. I'm not surprised, Tinubu did say he'll continue from where Buhari stopped. |

so the government of Tinubu decided to remove fuel subsidy because he claimed that it is too expensive.
then after removing it, the same Tinubu and state governors are pretending to be spending billions on palliatives to cushion the effect of removing fuel subsidy.
pls what is the economic sense in that?
how is this never ending palliative now different and better than the fuel subsidy they said they removed? The most annoying part is he's still paying fuel subsidy. |

My opinion, each state should run it's own police and the community where you live operates it's own security personnel (more like vigilante) which is in 24/7 contact and synergy with the state police. That way, familes would be safer than every family owning a gun?

If the Indians are hoarding information from the Nigerians as said by the post you quoted, then how did the Nigerians there come to the conclusion that it's 2025? Since they've been receiving crude, have they mentioned when they'll start production? If truly they are hoarding info, it's from the general public. Those working on the project know what's up. |
