Politics / Re: I’ll End Insurgency If Elected President – Buhari by FrankC3: 8:12am On Dec 01, 2014
Caseless:
if u support gej, must u always reason like him?
Ok! Tell me one Nigeria's problem gej joined in solving as a non-public office holder. Or tell me one that he has solved in all the position he has held. We know buhari antecedent; he dealt with maitatsine, fought in the civil war, etc, what has ur gej achieved in this sense for Nigeria ? Check the list of those that fought for democracy or, those were standing up against the military then, if u are going to see gej's name there.
You people are just too headless to read and learn.

Was Pa Oritsejafor that you hate so much, EK Clark and other SS Elders the President of this country before they contributed constructively to the solution of the militancy challenge? What position was the SE elders holding before helping find solution to the kidnapping problem?

The ideological stance of APC and her followership on the cardinal issue of leadership and civic responsibility, especially as it has to do with supposedly elder statesmen in their midst is very worrisome. I have asked this question before but got no reasonable response even from core APC followers. What has been the contribution of Buhari to our democracy from 1999 to date? What are his contributions to anti-corruption drives, terrorism in the North, even kidnapping in the East or the area boys and ritual killing challenge in the West? He is known to have no business he runs, no NGO that he champions, no peace deal that he brokers, no international engagement (like OBJ), no leadership institute he manages, even our own Lagos Business School or UNILAG MBA class has never invited him even for a lecture on a simple topic like 'The place of ethics in public leadership' or such topics. What exactly has Buhari been doing since 1999 apart from contesting elections? NOTHING!!! He is simply unproductive. Even Dino Maleye (with his poor domestic records) has been far more productive than Buhari. It is better to have this man do something, even if I disagree with his strategy, than what we have right now.

A flight developing a technical fault, delayed and passengers (many of whom are from different other countries) being lodged in a hotel after the confirmation of a cancellation is now being presented by a typical Nigerian middle class passenger as one of those instances where Nigerians are being disrespected. I am sure that this guy will not attempt to sue the airline should he not have been lodged, rather he will come to Nairaland and insult the country's leaders. Would he have preferred to fly a faulty plane and risk a crash?

This is part of the sickness of the the Nigerian middle class. They disrespect their country and her institutions daily on the internet, insult her President and abuse the armed forces and every symbol of the country's authority and still want to be treated like kings abroad. Even when there is no culpability on the part of Nigerian authorities over an issue, one is invented to continue the abuse.

We must reform our country and her institutions, but we must first of all reform our mindset.

If the kind of mindset portrayed by APC fans on NL in anyway represent the general position of their leaders, then it will be very safe to conclude that APC is even more ideologically weak than many thought.

What exactly is the fear of APC? In a democracy? Fear unto what end? The very unlikely worst that can happen is for APC to win 2015 Presidential election, even the sound of it sounds very unlikely. So what is the fear for? Heck! We are talking about a political party that has already conceded defeat in 2 of Nigeria's 6 geopolitical zones based on perception of massive support of the President in those areas and goes ahead to malign people from the strongest support base of the PDP on daily basis, meaning that they are not even willing to engage those people on ideas or persuade them. They rather sit behind their keyboards and spin out ridiculous permutations on how Buhari will win the 'North' and Fashola/Tinubu will win the 'South West'. What else is chest beating if not this pedestrian approach to politics?

This is actually why Atiku has my greatest respect in that party, because he is a politician who never lose any base before elections. I wonder how he roll with these loud mouths because they go directly against every of his relatively more mature political positions.

APC should not glory on who is afraid of them. They should fold their sleeves and get to work, the work of convincing voters, not by insulting their country, their President, the country's armed forces and travelling to UK to malign her own country.

Section 68 (1) (g) says he could defect, provided there is a division in his party. The High Court, Sokoto has shown that a division exists in Sokoto chapter of the PDP. Have we asked ourselves why Tambuwal was not invited when the PDP reconciliatory committee visited Sokoto.

Just watch and learn the game. Do you really think that refusal to invite Tambuwal to the family meeting was a mistake? He was goaded to make his move now and also to create the impression that there was a 'reconciliation meeting'. When the time comes, Tambuwal's lawyers will have to prove to the court that what held in Sokoto was a reconciliation meeting and not family meeting.

It is only a foo.l that does not respect a man that has been in a particular line of business longer than him. PDP is about to strike and it is good you lay emotions apart and find out the very reason why they will always win elections.

Yet, this frog-faced puffy-lipped she-pig knws that one of the best ways to influence the masses is to increase the amount spent infrastructure development which, sadly, has not received anything more than 13% form trillions of budget each year. If a man hoards money and spends little, he definitely will have reserves. And doesn't amount to progress because u need to spend 'normally', and still have more.

That is why countries like south africa are better, no matter the reserves we have as GDP... They spend to the masses, and still grows!

Just recently, you posted:

According to @SLIDEwaxie, Buhari's decision to save his money and purchase APC Presidential nomination form with borrowed funds is a very wise decision and makes him a very wise business man but Nigeria's desire to save money for the rainy day is foo.lish. To this guy, Nigeria should spend all her income to 'upgrade the status of the common man' and save anything so that his fellow APC fans will call the government at the center names. Under the administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Patriotism to the Nation has been reduced to Loyalty to Jonathan and his Wife.

Attending Council of State meeting is loyalty to President Jonathan and his wife? Something is definitely wrong with the mindset of APC.

Not surprised though. I asked one of them what has been the contribution of Buhari to the peace and stability of the country since 1999 to prove his love for the country he wants to lead. I was shocked when he proudly asked me how do I expect Buhari to help his enemy. He followed up with a disturbing analogy that why should MTN help Etisalat promote their brand.

Something is definitely wrong with a political party that believes that patriotism is equivalent to supporting the incumbent President, it also goes to show that the President is doing something right for opposition politicians to assume that being patriotic will advance his interest. For example, contributing their efforts to stopping Boko Haram to APC somehow favors the President. This calls for worry!!

But he has a point. Why would you call this 'corruption' when the bed belongs to the Ekiti State Govt house , not Fayemi?

Besides, a bed of N2m isn't that crazy expensive. Personally I will not buy one of those, but there are many Nigerians with beds costing more than 500k.

Double standard, man! Remember that the 2 BMW bullet proof cars were bought by an agency under the Ministry of Aviation for the use of the minister and other dignitaries. I know that you were and still possibly angry with Princess Oduah for that purchase which was not done by her in the first place but because she approved the purchase of those cars. Those cars were not bought by Oduah for her personal use, it was for the Minister of Aviation and other dignitaries, meaning that Chidoka could have inherited those cars after swearing in.

Here, we have a governor who purchased a N50m bed for the government house and you are explaining it away.

If ever APC take over power at the centre (a very unlikely possibility in the next 20 years), we will all be in trouble.

Apart from the rebasing (which is like changing goal post), nothing worthy has come out of Nigerian economy except bad news.
As you can see in the report, falling oil prices is just one of the reasons for the falling Naira.
Nigeria is not doing anything right at this moment. Forget the bullcrap your government is feeding you. The major indicators for an economic growth are absent in Nigeria.

What exactly are you celebrating about a falling oil price? Is this the first time oil price has dropped in the last couple of years? CBN has always defended the naira, so does other oil dependent economies. Naira did not crash, despite IBB SAP experiment, it did not crash when militancy grounded our oil exports, Nigeria and Nigerians are creative people and will always manage their issue.

For bloomberg to single out our country among other oil exporting nations and talk about the effect of oil price crash is a testament that Nigeria is doing something right and is being watched closely.

It is also on record that Buhari never came out to call his supporters to order while the killings was going on. Even when the whole country was mourning the death of those young men, Buhari uttered no words of sympathy to the grieving parents nor use his 'discipline and integrity' to call the remaining rampaging supporters to order. If anyone has a link to Buhari's sympathy message to the families of the murdered NYSC members in 2011 or any statement calling off his boys, please share.

People should be wary of those winning online polls especially on Nairaland and Sahara Reporters. In 2011, Buhari won the election by landslide but lost the real elections by landslide. Many online voters are Nigerian diasporans and will not be voting. Others are the smug middle class who prefer to insult and abuse their leaders online but take the election day as an extra work free day from office. Few, very few online voters even come out of their houses in 2011.

See the link below, that was in 2011. Buhari won the election massively on NL, many online voters were resident in Lagos and other parts of the SW. You see very few voters from far North, but the irony was that Buhari lost aggressively in the SW after the impression of outright victory expected. See the 2011 thread below, remember that BB was Buhari's online reference in 2011, I guess it is GMB today:

Ribadu has been known to own a large herd of cattle even before his days in EFCC. While his peers like El Rufai were busy owning up choice pieces of lands in FCT directly and proxy, this guy was investing his income in his farm business.

I remember when he declared his assets that it included about 100 cattle or so. Even the Vice President has some cattle also, in fact, most northern politicians, and I think that includes former Gov Nyako have farms and most of their farms include cattle section.

Actually, folks down south are learning the trade fast. A friend who works with a major telco recently bought about 15 calf to sell after about 1 year. This guy is a mid management staff in his coy and he employs some old folks in his village to take fodder for the cattle daily at a very cheap rate. This is happening in many other places down south as I type.

When I read comment on NL and how disconnected they are from the present trend of the growing middle class, I believe all the more that real Nigerians who have something to contribute hardly post on NL. This man and many others like him, no matter their 'crime' (if dumping APC for PDP is one) should be praised for investing in our economy, creating jobs and saving us all some meat importation cost.

I can't seem to find anywhere in this report where some people are fighting. The only thing I see here is a political party that is displaying the maturity that can only come from experience by advising members to jettison any endorsement, irrespective of whom the beneficiaries are and enjoining her members to follow the party procedures and the dictates of the Electoral Act.

Every endorsement in the PDP, including that of the President MUST be tacit, primaries must be conducted and the results must reflect such endorsement. This way, PDP will retain her role as the true democratic party that has outgrown the temptation of taking the easy way.

Why exactly must the President make public his asset declaration when he has not only declared his assets to Code of Conduct Bureau but also signed into law the Freedom of Information Act that empowers the likes of Sagay (who should know) to request for such record from CoC? I don't understand it, maybe I a missing something. If public asset declaration is not a legal requirement, why is a lawyer, a SAN for that matter pushing for it, not for all public office holder, but just for the President?

Part of the problem we have is that Nigerians just love people who can play to the gallery - declare abridged version of assets publicly (after all, who else have records of your money in Swiss accounts), declare state of emergency in Power (something that doesn't even make sense at all) and other such displays.

If Nigerians wants her leaders, not just her President or President Jonathan specifically, to declare their assets, people like Prof Sagay has the legal mind, goodwill and war chest to put together a bill to that respect and push it to the National Assembly. If the National Assembly accepts such considerations, then it becomes law that our leaders, from President to Local Govt Councillors MUST declare her assets publicly. Why he has not done that is part of the problem we are facing and that is exactly is why it is optional for the President to either declare publicly or just obey the legal requirement which is declaring to CoC.

They were also precise in Osun polls..

Very dumb specie yu are

What has happened to you? NOI polls is not known to come up with wrong poll results, the margin may be in contention. Read the report on NOI polls for Osun elections. Ekiti election was not different, even when your party APC abused the group and insulted the woman to high heavens in both occasions, the result still help up. There is really something about APC that changes people...for the worse.

Incumbent Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, is predicted to be returned by as much as 65 per cent of vote counts in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state, a poll on voter preference conducted by Upward BAO Consulting, a management consultancy research firm based in Lagos, with associate consultants across Nigerian and UK universities and research institutions has revealed.

The firm said it used survey data to predict voting patterns in Osun in the run-up to the election.

The state-wide opinion poll carried out between Sunday, July 27 and Saturday, August 2, 2014, and in 12 of the most populous cities and towns in the state, also revealed that Iyiola Omisore, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), would most likely get 17 percent of the votes, while Fatai Akinbade, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), would get 10 percent.

According to the poll, the percentage of Osun residents who planned to vote for ‘others’ or remained undecided was eight percent.

“Methodologically, the poll was carried out in the 12 cities and towns, given the fact that Osun is a highly urbanised state with high population density concentrated in the cities and towns. The poll areas include Osogbo (with 110, 670 voters), Ile-Ife (mostly East and Central with 95,471 and 81, 430 voters respectively), Ilesha (East and West with 54, 746 and 52, 286 votes) and Ikire (53, 487 votes). Others are Ila-Orangun, Ede, Ikirun, Gbongan, Iwo, Ipetumodu Okuku and Modakeke. The 12 cities and towns cut across the three senatorial districts in Osun State,” it stated.
The poll, which also sought to know the respondents’ views on level of performance of the incumbent administration in the state, disclosed that “81percent of the respondents approved that the incumbent governor has performed creditably”, citing the school free feeding programme, farmers’ welfare, O-YES, road networks, and security of lives and property, as indicators of performance. A minority of 19percent believe otherwise.

“Yet, several of those who said they would vote for PDP or Labour said that the APC candidate was a better performer than his predecessors,” the poll revealed.

On the possible voter turnout, the survey shows that “a large voter turn-out is expected, as 88percent of the respondents said they would vote and around same percentage said they had permanent voters’ cards”.

Based on the data collected, collated, coded and analysed, none of the other major candidates is said to have a chance of getting any appreciable number of votes.

Aregbesola is also shown by the survey to be very popular among the indigines and voters of Osun.

“If the election is free and fair, it is postulated that Aregbesola will get a second term, since the overwhelming majority of the electorate want him as a result of performance,” the poll further shows.

“The predictive value of the polling exercise for the forthcoming gubernatorial election is very high. With revelations from across the big cities and towns, having the highest percentage of the voters, conclusions from data analysis show clearly that all things being equal, the incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win decisively, to be distantly followed by Iyiola Omisore of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Fatai Akinbade of the Labour Party (LP) in that order. Several of the other candidates were not known to the people,” it maintained.

Politics / Re: Bureau Directs Gov. Fayemi, Others To Declare Assets by FrankC3: 8:38pm On Oct 05, 2014

Pls, did Jonathan declare his assets? I knw musa ya' ardua declared his..

The answer is YES, he declared his assets. Do you even know that you cannot be sworn in as President, Governor or LG chairman or deputies without asset declaration? It is our law, not open to choice.

What the President refused to do is OPEN DECLARATION OF ASSET. That means, calling a Press Conference to present a list of his assets (which is not a replacement for the legal requirement of asset declaration by submitting the list to Code of Conduct Bureau). He argued that anybody who wants to get the President's or Governors list of declared assets should request for it from the CoC through the instrumentality of the FoI Bill, and that was why that bill was one of the first he signed when he took office.

So please, do not be blown away by the rabid propaganda in the horizon. From 1999 till date, no present or past office holder has ever refused to declare their assets, not one. That actually is the main job of the CoC and EFCC relies on this record for her own prosecution of corruption cases involving past leaders.
