I'm currently dealing with a tricky situation and would appreciate any advice on how best to proceed. I unfortunately found myself dealing with a rogue tradesperson who has failed to show up for the agreed work and has become increasingly difficult to reach to confirm any start date. I paid him a deposit via bank transfer. Luckily, after I reported the issue as suspected fraud, the bank froze his account. He’s now saying that once the account is unblocked, he will refund me, as the funds are still in the account. While that might sound reasonable on the surface, I no longer trust that he’ll follow through if I inform the bank the issue is resolved and his account is unblocked. I informed the bank about this and they mentioned they cannot guarantee he would pay if I agree to have his account unfrozen. Any suggestions or experience dealing with his? |
Are there commissions or fees to be paid when a rights issue is exercised? At the current share price, UBA is cheaper in the open market than the rights issue. I wonder if that changes when transaction charges are considered?

megawealth01:my Chief! If the medium-term outlook is red, it's time to grab my slippers and run. I am fairly risk averse, so I stick to established companies. Question is the medium term outlook good for FBN? |
Meogom:Congrats |
Even those sleeping with different ladies and guys weekly will come and condemn/warn you ![]() |
megawealth01:Should I run? almost 20% of my portfolio sits with FBN..hovering around breakeven price. I am happy to take my small losses and run if the issue is expected to get worse. |
What is up with FBN Holdco, please? Full offer! |
Depriest2020:You dont starve a whole population to death because you are at war with their leadership. Israel should know this better given their own history. |

sterlingD:Do you know when Fidson results were released? I dont think the market responded to the postive result or has it been priced weeks backs? |

Hkana:One thing I learnt quickly here is to completely forbid words like hit, beat, knock, hurt being said in the house. It's one thing to avoid discipline as a contact-sport at home, but it's another to ensure that even mild forms of discipline are correctly worded by the kids. I think the latter is actually what gets more parents in trouble—not necessarily the severity of the action. I have a 2-year-old who actively copies what his older brother (who's 5) says. The kids are often completely unaware of the implication of what they say and how it might be interpreted in the environment they're in. Better to forbid those words at home so they dont by a slip-of-tongue use them outside to describe their experience at home. |
ehizario2012:When you use your card as you would normally, pay up the balance monthly leaving no unpaid balance. The bank is less concerned about your credit card debt if it is fully paid monthly. |
giselle237:I’m not suggesting the decision has to be a joint one, and I’m not fully aware of how the law interprets sole custody and the associated rights. However, the relationship between a parent and a child is a lifelong one — whether the other parent likes it or not. It is fundamentally wrong for one parent to make significant decisions that could materially hinder the other parent’s ability to maintain a meaningful relationship with the child, without involving or informing them in the process. The key word here is inform/involve the other parent, not necessarily to seek their consent. This is the morally right thing to do, and it is also the right thing to do in the best interest of the child. If op had done this, the visa application would likely have been successful. One parent should never weaponise child custody rights against the other. They are meant to protect the well-being of the child — not to serve as a tool for punishment, control, or revenge between parents. Regardless, I wish op success in her appeal |
Lincoln4u:He may be a bad father, but he is still a father—even if only in name. Sadly, that’s not something you can undo or rewrite at this stage. If you are taking a major decision that could affect his ability to meaningfully interact with his child now or in the future, he needs to be carried along or at least informed. The ECO is right here. |
Streetinvestor2:UBA is currently trading at N50, what is the benefit of a rights issued at N50? Am I missing something? |
Streetinvestor2:I use Morgan capital. Do I just need to send them an email asking to be allow to exercise the right issue? |
Sunrisepebble:How can one apply for the rights issue? |
giselle237:Even if she has sole custody, I don’t believe it’s appropriate to relocate a child far away from the father without demonstrating that he was at least informed or notified. Sole responsibility for financial support and upbringing doesn’t automatically justify excluding the father from such a significant decision. A move that greatly affects the father’s ability to maintain a relationship with the child shouldn’t happen unilaterally. If I were the ECO, I would probably also take the same decision. |

jonnysessy:One of the reasons I took a step back from investing early on was the sheer volume of what appeared to be insider trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. It's hard to ignore how often certain stocks begin moving aggressively days before any price-sensitive information is made public. Why aren't these patterns investigated more thoroughly by the NSE or SEC? I noticed this recently with Airtel, but it's definitely not an isolated case. While some people grow grey hair performing technical analysis of stocks before they buy, others are just riding on insider information. |
Just when I decided to offload Nestle for being sluggish over the past month, it turns full bid. Is there something happening with Nestle? I know many buses have already left, but is there any bus I can still join for a short-term trip?

Lincoln4u:Probably try getting parental consent from the dad when you appeal. |
Quelme:Ukraine is a battle field between Russia and Ukraine with both sides having allies who supply weapons. Russia obtaina weapons and significant industrial support from china, north korea, india, iran.... China alone controls about 80% of global small drone market which is used extensively by russia in the war. What exactly is your point? |
Quelme:Are you thinking hat - is a war between USA & China supposed to be compared to one between Russia and a country like Ukraine? |
BodyCount:The fact that you are comparing the Russian and Ukrainian capabilities shows how russia has been exposed as a paper tiger. Prior to the war russia was considered the 2nd best miltary force in the world. Currently, they are trying not to be second best in the battlefields in Ukraine. And tell me china which is the world's industrial power house pumping massive amount of machinery and ammunition to russia is not massive help. |
BodyCount:If Russia were that capable, it would not need North Korea and Iran to help with the conflict. |
Meogom:There is usually a condition on your mortgage offer from barclays asking you not to take any additional loan and pay off any outstanding loan within a number of days. But I think it applies after completion and I dont think Barclays has much control over that once completion is done. However, taking on new loan during the process could be a red flag to your willingness to comply but in this case its not material. The probable worst is a hit on your affordability calculation which means the bank reduces the max amount they can borrow you. Based on that number, the bank may consider the impact of an additional £136 monthly outgoing to your affordability calculation. Are you borrowing the maximum amount Barclays can offer? If not, you may be able to preceed without any impact. You may be better off paying it outright and letting the mortgage broker know that you have settled it. |
jedisco:Yes, issues still persist but the economy may be turning the corner and there are many early movers in the capital market reaping unreal gains right now. Interest rate will fall and is falling as interest rate falls. There is a lot of negative impact to the socio-economic and security condition in Nigeria due to rapid removal of subsidies and devaluation. This area would likely take much longer to fix. The important thing right now is that there are some green shoots in the Nigerian economy that can blossom into something good if carefully nutured. God bless Nigeria. |
On LemFi, the rate has only moved slightly — from around ₦2130 to ₦2070 per pound over the past two months & between 2,000 to 2,200 year to date. That’s quite steady, especially considering Nigeria’s usual FX volatility. What’s odd is that this is happening even though oil prices are sitting below $70, while Nigeria’s 2025 budget is based on $75/barrel. So technically, the country is already running a budget deficit, yet the naira hasn’t nosedived as one might expect. On top of that: The stock market is booming — several equities are hitting the daily 10% limit multiple days in a row. The debt market is hot — I locked in a 28% interest note on Fairmoney, which is wild. Rates are lower now but over 20% can still be found. Overall, investor sentiment looks surprisingly bullish for the economy & Trump may just be giving him a boost by continually rattling otherwise safehaven western markets. I’ve been a tough critic of Tinubu — and I still am — but if this level of relative stability holds, and the financial markets keep performing this way, he might actually be pulling off something significant.
