How are those Igbo attires different from the South African ones that I posted?🤷🏿‍♀️🤷🏿‍♀️🤷🏿‍♀️... Aren't they all revealing?
I'm not winning this, so I'll admit you're right though we both made strong points

Those women look exactly like these Yoruba sculptures... You can't tell me that these sculptures are not from the Yoruba tribe.
grin these are dieties and priestesses. Not an ideal case of everyday attires

I suspect you need to do more research on this

And these are your modernised Igbo attires for girls, which are also revealing, but I'm sure you don't see anything wrong with them since it's your tribe.
Ah, I'm not judging anyone for how revealing or modest their clothing is.
I’ve just noticed that traditional South African attire tends to be more revealing, and I’m genuinely curious about the reason behind that.

I am excluding the impact of modernisation and looking to understand what it is like authenticly

In pre-colonial West Africa, breasts were like elbows—just… there. Nobody was writing love letters to them."

"But Western schooling came in hot with the censorship, and boom—suddenly people needed bras and shame."

"Meanwhile, the bottom half? That’s where the real sense of modesty always lived." In this part, I hold the view there was an expectation that they are well covered.

These are westernised attires with some cultural touch.

I am looking for something less adulterated by western culture.

I carry a flavour of both — and many others — having grown up in Lagos, a melting pot that draws people from every corner of Nigeria.

So how is it like being a Yobo baby with the amount of tribalism happening there between the two tribes?
There’s a lot of ethnic and religious bigotry on display on nairaland, but it doesn’t necessarily reflect the reality on the ground in Nigeria — at least not yet, thankfully. On a day-to-day basis, people generally get along with others from all backgrounds, especially when it’s in everyone’s best interest — as it should be.

Unfortunately, Nairaland — thanks to its extremely loose moderation — has allowed a handful of openly bigoted users to hijack most discussions and steer them in divisive directions. It’s become such a recurring pattern that this toxicity now defines almost every topic on the platform, regardless of the original subject.

They're cultural without any modern influence... I was going to show you pictures of Bapedi girls from back in the 1800 so that that you can see how they also dressed the same way, but unfortunately, I've reached my daily limit and I can't post anymore pictures... I was also going to show you our modernized girls' attires.

The Pedi girl's upper attire is called muphamana and it is made up of reeds, feather reed grass, if I'm not mistaken while her lower front attire is called lebole, it's made up of woven fiber and the back attire is called ntepa, it's made up of cow hides... They're all hand made by Pedi elderly men and women.

Nigerians' ancestral attires were also revealing, so I don't know why you're acting so confused... In fact, what's your tribe? I want to check something.
It's possible I'm wrong here; I'm not sure you'll find many cultures in East, Northern and West Africa with dresses that are revealing (for females), notwithstanding the warmer climate...probably it has to do with the early onset of Christian and muslim missionaries to these regions.

Regardless I will like to see if you find any one similar within these regions.

Why do they all have skimpy dresses? Is that due to the weather, cultural, or modern adaptation of the dress?

Hi everyone, I've been in the UK for nine months now on a student visa, and I've been unable to secure a part-time job, even as a kitchen porter or warehouse assistant. I receive impromptu interview calls, and at the end, they ask about my visa status and when it expires.

When I tell them the month it expires, they say they can't proceed with my application.

I am at my wits' end as I have no way to pay my upcoming bills. I would greatly appreciate any advice, tips and help. Thank you
Let them know instead that you plan to apply for PSW which should extend it by 2 years.

InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Fred2020: 9:12am On Jun 05, 2025
After being away from the nigeria stock market for some years and very out-of-touch with the current market. I am looking to dive back in today regardless.

Please can someone recommend some good stock market picks.

My risk appetite is moderate.

The invested funds i sourced from outside the country, so I am looking for return that can cover possible downward FX rate movement and currency exchange margin.

I am looking at ideally between 20% - 30% ROI within the year. This is to allow me cover for potential FX devaluation (which I have assumed will be no more than 10-15% over the next 6-7 months) and 5% to cover exchange margin.

Thank you

The major problem about UK immigration, like I have always said, is deliberate and proper segmentation of immigrants; it's only the UK that keeps bundling all immigrants, including the ones termed as illegal, into one bucket . Other western countries have succeeded in defining different categories of immigrants, including the terms of achieving permanent residence under different categories and even timelines in some cases. This helps in controlling the amount and easily filtering those you want to permanently keep. From there, you can know those immigrants who will not be too much burden on your system, and you can then plan adequately for other things, like infrastructure, as you have said. But the UK keeps paying lip service to these things and keeps blabbing that it wants to attract highly skilled immigrants, and still treats them like trash at the end of the day, with all sorts of threats and disrespect, despite all that has been contributed by these hard-working immigrants. Of course, the country will keep running in circles until it is sincere about what it needs and what it doesn't want. You can't be making noise about stopping the boats, but you always end up inflicting emotional pain and uncertainty on those who are law-abiding immigrants.
@ the bolded..because it is politically convenient to do.

The government is unable to "stop the boats". Current data suggests it is on track to record one of the largest numbers of illegal arrivals this year. However, legal migration is something that can be easily exercised control over. If he separates both categories, his failure on illicit migration would be glaring and would become fuel for the campaign of right-wing parties.

Not worth responding further.

To me, there is no pride in what happened. It is another way round. I won't be proud of myself for not able to sing my country's national anthem. Where is my patriotism? Only to criticize, condemn and abuse the country? Is that not failure on our part if we cannot do simple things to support the country unless we are force or benefit us?
Utter rubbish.. when one man took a unilateral decision to change the anthem overnight, what did you expect.

We took a long commute, paid & stayed in the stadium till past 10pm ,while you seat behind the screen questioning our patriotism for not knowing an anthem that someone decided to change overnight without any consultation.

....Borrowing is not inherently evil—but in Nigeria’s case, it has become a crutch for corruption, a cover for incompetence, and a curse for the next generation. Without accountability, clear outcomes, and economic vision, taking more loans is not development—it’s national sabotage with a repayment date.
When your debt service exceeds your revenue, regardless of whatever project you are using it to fund, you are setting up the country to be in a financially difficult position long term.

It means every year, the country will have to open new debts just to service existing debts. A very vicious cycle is being created

Whether you pay in naira or rupee, debt as a proportion of revenue is rising from 118% to 131%.

Let us know how the currency it is paid in is good news?

Good points.

The conservatives or Reform despite all the mouthing would struggle to bring down migration numbers as much as Labour simply cos they'd not make some of the cuts Labour has.

Like I've always said, with Reform, I'd much rather they are in power than be the major opposition.
As per the proposed changes, I recommend people write to their MPs so their views are considered during the consultation process in parliament, and MPS can appreciate that a section of their electorate is not pleased with the way the change has been proposed and the language thereof.

I have written my MP and asked her to push for a fairer deal when the topic comes up in parliament and recommend others do the same.

did u do anything spiritual?
If you mean traditionally, no.

I am christain. I drew closer to God in prayers and sometimes fasting. Also, I learned to forgive my mum and not harbour any grudge.

Also, I had this encounter with a man who proayed for me. During the difficult times, I became an uber driver to make ends meet. I picked up this man during a trip. Something within me told me to tell him the challenge I faced and I did.

At the end of the trip, the man advised and prayed for me and I felt something I cant really explain. If I recall correctly, I got a decent job offer that week and were so excited to have me onboard. Things turned around in my life from then and I have made very rapid progress since then and found grace & favour in everything I have done.

Probably someday I will write a story about my experience.

I keep a distance from home, the toxic nature of the relationship was killing me almost literarily. However, I keep calling to check up on her and send her gifts/upkeep funds as normal.

I completely avoid conversations that could cause her to react strongly and do not engage her when she brings up those topics either.

I am not sure if I completely overcame but I am in a much better place than I was back then.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 9 by Fred2020: 12:10pm On May 13, 2025
samintegrity:
Bro, people should understand that the Graduate Visa is different from the student Visa. The graduate visa is what the UKVI policy is referring to, as being reduced from 24months (2yrs) to 18months (1y 6month)

A Graduate visa can only be applied for after completing an educational program in the UK, Its a means that afford people who have just completed their study in the UK and are yet to get a skilled visa and are nearing the expiration of their student visa to stay behind in the uk for up to 2year - 3years depending on your course of program,

Also note that the Graduate visa can not be renewed or extended, but holders can switch to another visa category.

So, literally it doesnt affects potential applicants.

Where it may affect potential MSc or MRes applicant is if after your initial 2years student visa in the UK, You stil have not gotten a work sponsorship, then it means, your chances of staying beyond in the UK for another 2years while you search for job sponsorship has been reduced to 1year and 6months,

Thanks for the update thou.
This is a bit misleading.

You are not allowed to switch from your student visa to a work visa until you have completed your academic program. Most student visas expire about 4- 6 months after the end of the academic program.

Substantially most students will have to transition to the graduate visa as 4-6 months after studies is quite a short time to land a graduate-level job offering sponsorship. Yes, some may get lucky, but most will require more time.

Hence, a reduction in the graduate visa duration will substantially affect the prospects of those hoping to get a job after studies.

To put things in perspective, about 40% of asylum claims for people with visa comes from those who held a student visa but could not transition to a work visa.
