Soon, private vehicles would be restricted from plying major roads in Calabar metropolis as a way of checking the huge vehicular traffic in the state capital, the Special Adviser to Governor Liyel Imoke on Public Transportation, Barrister Edem Ekong, has said. Addressing newsmen, Ekong said the governor has given approval for his agency to recruit 100 school certificate holders and graduates to be trained as traffic officers to check vehicular congestion. He also revealed that, owing to their vast experience in traffic management, the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) has been contracted to train the youths in all aspects of traffic control. “The idea to restrict private cars on the roads on certain days is to reduce the number of vehicles now on our major roads. Government will soon increase the number of metro-buses and taxes, to charge moderate rates, so that car owners can use them instead of burning their fuel”. He said his agency has commenced discussion with owners of designated parks, with a view to creating more car parks. This, he said, would stop people from parking along the roads and other unauthorized places. What a great laugh!, is this man serious, am sure the Special Adviser on transportation to Cross River Govt is a School leaver and definitely does not have any experience in traffic management. How can such be considered, infringing on the rights of people from using their personal cars, for some people using their cars is a source of comfort than using public transportation, so it's definitely not right to deny people of their right, all in the name of de-congesting traffic. What he should be proposing, is proper management of traffic and opening of alternative routes. Is traffic in Cross River has much as Lagos State, the fact is that when development of infrastructure does not grow at the same pace with population explosion, there is bound to be this kind of problem, and banning vehicles is a lazy and ineffective way of solving the problem, because when people start to complain, and another govt comes in and reverses the decision, then you will be back to square one. At the very least, if people see that it is cheaper and convenient to take public transport, they would gladly leave their vehicles behind, what the Cross River Govt should do first is to encourage private owners to invest in public buses transportation within the state, then also develop alternative road networks that will free up the congested roads, and also look at the long term plan of light rails within the state. All this measures will go a long way in solving the problem permanently, and not by banning the private cars on major roads will solve the problem. curled from www.voiceoutng.com. There was pandemonium in the ever popular and busy part of Ojota, as a woman who was a lawma (Lagos Waste Management Authority) cleaner that regularly sweeps the high way was knocked down by a moving truck yesterday while performing her regular duties and was Killed immediately. According to eye witness reports lastma (lagos State Traffic and Management Authority) officials were chasing a truck who was trying to escape arrest, meanwhile while one of the lastma officials was dragging the steering wheel with the driver, who was on speed, which caused the vehicle to swerve into the service lane, towards the lawma official, where she could not get out of the way and was eventually crushed by the truck. Immediately this happened, the lastma officials took to their heels to escape a mob attack in retaliation, over a week ago the lastma officials were also indicted in another death of an Okada Rider in Mile 12, where lastma officials were chasing an Okada Rider who contravened the laws of the land, and ran into a moving BRT bus, which killed the okada rider, the aftermath of that incident sparked off a riot and resulted in the burning of two BRT buses. Although it took the intervention of both Kai (Kick Against Indiscipline) officials and mobile policemen to quench the riot yesterday, or unless it would have resulted into a bigger mess, although the two agencies involved work for the state government, therefore the culprits will be found and also the victim will be compensated. But let us ask ourselves the question, who do you really think is at fault, is it the lastma officials who was trying to effect an arrest, or the truck driver who was escaping an arrest, or the poor lawma woman who was hardworking in her regular duties, even on a public holiday. Well as for me i think a larger percentage of the blame should go to the truck driver, and he should be severely punished and held accountable for the death of that woman. We have laid down laws in Lagos state, but when some stubborn elements feels that they love impunity, they break the law as they feel like, and when the law finally catches up, they try to stage an escape which has resulted in the death of another human being, so in that case the blame should go to the truck driver, because if the driver had done the right thing twice, it would not have caused the death of this woman. I would also like to throw some blame on the lastma official, if eyewitness accounts is to be believed, the lastma official jumped into the vehicle and was dragging the steering wheel with the driver, that act is absolutely criminal, because it will 99% result in an accident. I have been in a vehicle where an official of the lagos state agency jumped into the driver seat and started dragging the steering wheel with the driver on an express way, we almost crashed into a moving vehicle, if not the driver applied wisdom and patience, by pulling the brakes we would have been in an accident. Not all drivers have a sane mind to pull the brakes, when such stunt is done, and not to even mind the other victims in the truck that may suffer accident. I strongly believe that what should have been done, when the truck man refused arrest, is to get his plate number and 2 lastma officials should pick a bike and track him down, no amount of Ferrari stunts on Lagos Road the driver performs, he will be tracked down and later arrested. All parties must learn from this experience and think of the consequences of our actions of how they affect other people around us. curled from www.voiceoutng.com Join us today for today's word. BARELY three days after 85 Nigerians were deported from Europe, another batch of 60 were, on Thursday, again deported by the Spanish government, thus bringing to 145 the number of Nigerians deported in the last three days. The deportees, who arrived the Murtala Muha-mmed Airport, Lagos, aboard an Air Europa chartered flight, were brought in at 5.30 p.m. They comprised 45 males and 15 females and were brought back for committing various immigration offences, ranging from drug trafficking to immigration-related offences.According to sources in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the deportees, accompanied by law enforcement agent from Madrid, Spain, were received at the Lagos airport by their Nigerian counterparts and other law enforcement agents. Those who were brought based on drug-related offences were handed over the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further interrogation, while those with immigration offences were taken away by the NIS for further interrogation. Only on Tuesday, 85 were deported, comprising 56 males, 19 females and 10 children who were said to have committed several immigration offences, credit card fraud and other social vices. Well, what an embarrassment to their country, families and to themselves. I belong to the school of taught that says you can be successful in your fatherland and not necessary for you to travel abroad and embarrass the nation. Is it only our nation that is going through difficulties, that you will result to travelling abroad to engage in criminal activities, if you have enough finances to travel to spain, whether by land, desert, sea or by air, you could as well used that money to start a business venture for yourself. In the 1970′s we used to travel abroad for shopping, our economy was at par with the European countries, we were not a source of nuisance to this countries, they encouraged us to come to their country, we never required visa’s to travel, now we agree that the country has seriously dropped inform, if i may use that word, but that does not mean we have to subject ourselves to Riddicle and spoil our father’s name, all in the name of getting rich quickly. We are a proud nation with values, whatever problems we have, we should work together and solve it, and not wash our dirty linen in public, its okay to travel abroad, but make sure you add value to the country you come from, and give other people a chance to go over their, because of your good behavior, and not limit other people’s chances because you were a bad example of who we are. I hear people complain or even go into war with some people if they are not promoted, after they are promoted they go to church for thanksgiving, so when i hear of a case that a man of value is being promoted to a higher position, but he immediately refused that promotion and term it as a demotion or the promotion having ulterior motive, then it begs us to really question whats the story. The president of the court of appeal, Justice Ayo Isa Salami,, has been penciled down to move to the supreme court by the Federal Judicial Service Commission(FJSC), which is being chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu. The resolution has been forwarded to the President of Nigeria for Approval. It has been reported that Justice Isa Salami did not take this well, he immediately refused sighting good grounds that he was not informed and his consent was not taken into consideration. Why would a man that is being promoted refuse his own promotion, instead of him to be happy, he is not. Well the following reasons may explain the reasons why it is so. 1. The office of the President of the Court of Appeal is next to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, therefore elevating the president to the apex court is indeed a demotion, as he is going to be a junior to those that he recommended to the supreme court before he arrives. And the office of the President of the Court of Appeal is at par to the Office of the President of the Supreme Court. 2. It is against tradition not to have consulted and obtained salami’s consent before the alleged promotion offer, and that there was a meeting of the FJSC held on february 1 and 2 2011, where the CJN informed honourable members of the council of the proposal to strengthen the Supreme court by moving the president of the court of appeal into the supreme court and replacing him with his own man, and not even discussing the proposal with the court of appeal president before making such declaration. 3. The CJN’s offer is insincere because there was a running feud between the President of the Court of Appeal and the CJN where the latter wanted a favoured rule on the Sokoto gubernatorial election petition matter, but the President of the Court of Appeal refused, which later resulted in the CJN taking the matter out of the Court of Appeal hands when he was almost close to judgement and transferring it to the Supreme Court. The President of the Court of Appeal Justice Ayo Isa Salami, is a man of honour and value, he has served the nation well and has ruled on landmark cases, if the people that have stood up for truth is being secretly maligned, then who does this nation have to look up to, we must all lend our voice against this injustice, unless our value system will forever vanish. curled from www.voiceoutng.com Today's wisdom quote. MEDICAL doctors in the employment of the Lagos State Government have embarked on an industrial action, starting immediately. The renewed strike is being strictly adhered to in all hospitals in Lagos State. Here we go again with the strike, the last time they went on strike, it prolonged for months, until the people could not take it again and the govt was pressured to concede to the doctor's demands. Having listened to both sides of the argument, i have concluded to side with the govt, you may say thats cruel or not reasonable, why i may say. The demands of the Medical Doctors have been met 75%, that i know for a fact, but the doctors will not bulge, what they are holding on to is their 100% monetization and the re-enstatement of one of their senior colleagues that was sacked during the strike. The State govt on the other hand says that they can't afford 100% monetization for the doctors because resources is not readily available, they have to finance other sectors of the economy, and due to the high developmental ins fracture of the state, resources has to be managed prudently, but not withstanding they went on to increase it to 75% monetization for the doctors. Yet the doctors are not bulging, they are back on the street. Strike to me is not tool of power, it's a tool of cowardice, whether its the university lecturers striking or the NLC striking, they are all selfish and fighting for their own pockets, they usually blackmail the govt and works on our sympathy. Who are the people suffering, its the patients that are suffering, not the govt nor the doctors, because majority of this doctors have a private practice that is bringing in money for them, so it will be economically viable for them to go on strike, so that patients will go to private clinics. I tell you this strike is just one big conspiracy, it benefits them in a great deal, are they the only workers of the govt that deserve a 100% raise, or sorry like some people said they are special people, that deserve to be treated like a god, well as for me let them go on strike indefinitely, all the departed souls that they failed to save because of their lack of wisdom and plenty of pride will certainly stand against them when we all leave this world. For me, the doctors have shown lack of sympathy for the true victims of this strike, lets just pray that none of us, will have cause to visit the hospital during this strike period. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |

Two suspects, lucky Igbinova and Effiong Edu, who have been standing trial for the killing of Pa Alfred Rewane, an elder statesman in Nigeria, were recently sent free after 15years in Custody in the Nigerian prison awaiting trial. The Court ruled that the prosecution was unable to establish a case against them, that the police did a very shoddy job in their investigation, with the prosecution only relying on the forced confession of the suspects. The police initially arrested about 8 of the late politician's domestic staff, and kept them in prison despite the obvious facts that they were unlikely to be the real culprits. Now about 5 of them have already died in prison, just remaining 3 of them, regaining freedom 15years after. I am not going to go into who killed the late pa Alfred Rewane, nor the inability of our security agents to catch the real killers, what i will focus on, is a matter of national urgency, where our security agents, due to laziness, or wickedness would frame up innocent citizens who have no powerful relative to help him or her, to take the blame. Time and over again we hear of stories where police will come after a crime as been committed, would not carry out any investigations, just quickly pick on innocent citizens who are unfortunate to be mistakenly close to the crime, and force them into a confession through toture, and parade guns in their front and display them to the whole world. Whenever i see such display of so called armed robbers on t.v, i dont usually believe the police, first of all, a person is not termed guilty, until it has been proven in the court of law and a judgement has been passed, so it is legally wrong to even display them on t.v as criminals, most of our security agents lack the mental capacity to properly investigate a crime and pick on the less obvious. Our prison's is awash with innocent citizens awaiting trial. According to the statistics given by the Nigerian Prisons Service, it shows that as at July 2010, the population of the prisoners stood at 47,268, out of which only 13,300 or 23% are convicted persons and 77% are awaiting trial. Lets not kid our selves we have no justice system, a system that jails a kid who stole a tyre (worth 1500naira) to prison for 15years, and in the same vien jails a man who stole 50billion for 2years, and its because of the fearless nature of the Judge, meanwhile others just only negotiate to return some of the money and they drop the charges. In a well developed society, when a crime is committed, a well seasoned detective is attached to the case, depending on the level of the crime, then he investigates, maybe taking months, wait to be 100% sure, before charging the criminal to court, then he hands over the case to a trained and experienced criminal lawyer provided by the prosecuting state, who makes sure that no law was broken in the building of the case against the suspect, then he/she works hard to secure a conviction in the court. But in our case, its all upside down, what determines the level of your case is the amount of money you are willing to part with, we don't have trained detectives who are really passionate about catching criminals , we also don't have trained criminal lawyers prosecuting the case, what we have is the person investigating the case, who will prepare your file, then charge you to court, and meanwhile you have already been arrested and thrown into jail, with no bail option, because the innocent citizen cant afford a lawyer to advice him or her, the suspect accedes to all their request and continues to implicate himself or herself without the suspect knowing. The long and short story is that, before your case gets decided you have already spent 20years in prison, and by the time they find you not guilty, you are already a harden criminal, because our prison system doesn't reform you into a better person, but into a more bitter person towards the society. I can continue on and on with examples of the high injustice going on in our country, i feel aggrieved and annoyed as am writing this report, but the truth is that a nation can never know peace until true justice prevails. The 7 point agenda of the government is useless if there is no proper rule of law, where true justice prevails irrespective of your background, political status, financial status or level of your education. My prayer to you is that you never experience our injustice justice system, because thats when you will take this write up seriously. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |

The Head of Lagbus Mr Tunde Disu announced yesterday that citizens of Lagos state that have registered for the voter's card are allowed free ride on the BRT buses on Thursday and Friday, from 9am to 3pm. And also Friday was declared as a free day so that people can have time to register. But we definitely know that it was the Lagos State Government that must have initiated this gesture, and will be covering for the financial loss that will be suffered by the lagbus during this period, because i know that from a business point of view, the Head of Lagbus will never take that decision. Now it begs me to ask the question why is some state governors really interested in ensuring citizen register and some are not, some are willing to do everything possible to push and encourage the citizens to go and register, meanwhile some state governors don't just give a damn. I can only come to the conclusion that, citizens decision to register to vote will greatly affect the government in power, either positively or negatively. In the case of Lagos State where the Governor has a huge support from the citizens, which are more likely going to vote for him, it will be wise and strategic on his own part to continuously encourage citizens to register and at the same time criticize INEC to move faster and more efficiently, because he knows the more that registers, the more that will likely vote for him and the less chance of rigging by his opponents. But meanwhile some State Governors who lack popularity among their citizens will be extremely happy if the voter's don't register, because it will give them the opportunity to devise their means for rigging, meanwhile it is the opposition parties in their states that are seriously encouraging citizens to go out and register. Am sure that in the nearby future the Lagos state government will make a pronouncement that if you don't have a voter's card you will be excluded from some benefits in the State. Whether it benefits one state government or not, our right and obligation is to register to vote, and if we fail to exercise our right, another person, maybe Mike Tyson, Mohammed Ali will find their way into the register and vote on our behalf. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
Being a former corper myself not to long ago, i understand the pain and troubles the youth corper's are going through, and believe me they have a right to complain and protest their displeasure and suffering. The corpers threathened to boycott the exercise if their allowances are not paid, they were promised #30,000 naira at the end of the exercise, and also promised #5600 for allowance, which will be shared to them on a daily basis, and they claim that after 7 days into the exercise, nothing has been paid to them. Some also complain of inconvenience in carrying out their duties, they don't have where to sleep, some sleep on the floor in a classroom, no adequate security, no allowance paid yet to use for food, and they have to suffer insults and harassment from some members of the public, and instead of the top official in NYSC to come to their aid and appeal to them, he was quoted as saying that the Youth Corper's should not even dare downing their tools, that what they are doing is a service to their nation. Wow, what a statement, what i will first say in reply is that if it was his own children on the street, would he have made such a statement or even allowed them to partake. We enslave people in the name of service to our fatherland, when they are not directly involved, why cant the senators say they are serving their father land and not collect any jumbo pay, why cant the ministers, governors say they are serving their father land and not receive what is due to them. For God sake, this are people's children, future Governors, CEO's etc, no matter there small beginning or in the name of being a youth Corper should they be treated with less respect and less humanity, i served in a far away land in ebonyi in the eastern region and i remember days when we ate rice with salt and no stew, no oil, no pepper, no meat for good one week, because the federal government refused to pay early, and all in the name of serving my father land, which does not cater for you. I really expect that in the coming days that this youth Corpers should be paid all their allowance, and i certainly hope that those in charge of releasing this funds have not kept it in the bank as fixed deposit so that it will yield interest for them. And whenever we go out to register lets not forget to accord respect to this heroes who have given their time and effort to make sure that we don't suffer for the next four years. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
A statement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that the number of banks in the country may further shrink from 24 to 20 in a reform that is underway appears unsettling to some stakeholders in the banking industry who warn that the reform, if it becomes a reality, will bring about further loss of jobs. The CBN Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability, Mr Kingsley Moghalu, who spoke in London, last week, ahead of the issuance of $500 million Eurobond for Nigeria, had explained that the further reduction in the number of banks was informed by the fact that about four would likely be taken over through mergers and acquisitions. “By mid 2011, the banks will be taken over 20 or 21 banks will remain after the reforms. We are not legislating any number but the way it appears now, about three or four banks will be swallowed up in mergers and acquisitions,” Moghalu said. But some analysts said there is not much to fear if the banks number is reduced through mergers and acquisitions as there will likely be enough space for most of the employees of the banks affected. O man was that not the same story that was preached during the Soludo era where the number of banks in the country was reduced from 89 to 25 on 31 December , 2005 under a consolidation programme carried out by the former CBN governor, Well we all know the result of what happened. Please don’t get me wrong, is not that am criticizing Soludo’s regime, or the new led CBN by Sanusi, what am just saying is that they should just tell us the truth and let people brace up for it, let the workers of the affected bank begin to save money, or begin to look for another alternative, than lie to their faces and get caught unprepared. I totally support the new banking reform being carried on by Sanusi, even though there where casualties, its for the benefit of all, in order to have a strong banking financial institutions that will drive the economy. But my bone of contention is that in the coming weeks we are going to hear that some banks are going to be sold off or merged and we all likely know the banks we are talking about (the so called failed banks rescued), and there will be no job loss, that they all will be taken care off, thats a big white lie, from the little i know about running a profitable business, when a company acquires a new company, it needs to appraise it and position it to make profit, and the first thing they turn to, is to cut cost, which is labor cost, above all things. What i only feel the CBN should be planning to do now is how to safeguard the investors, customers and employees of those banks that are likely going to be acquired, or sold off, and not play politics with economic issues. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
Some weeks back, around last year the Federal government announced his decision to lift his ban on importation of cars older than 10years to 15years, some saw it has a welcome development, others did not, i belong to the later group. Also just recently the Federal govt also lifted bans on importation of Textiles, toothpicks, cassava and some other items. What is the government trying to do, are they saying we do not produce these items locally apart from cars, what will this policy be doing to our economy as a whole, and also to the economy that is exporting them here. Immediately i can tell you for a fact that their economy will recieve a boost, because they will be making money from us and keeping their workers in employment, meanwhile our local industries suffer due to lack of comparative advantage against the imported goods, thereby forcing our local industries to shut down. The only reason i see for lifting the ban on some items by the federal govt is just to increase its revenue from the import duties, but i don't think thats a good tactical move, and it will really affect our economy in the long run. We can definitely remember before the days of Obasanjo when fruit juice of all kind was imported into the country, immediately the importation of fruit juice was banned, the local industry experience an increase in production and revenue, and more companies are now involved in the production of fruit juice, and with the regulation of NAFDAC, they have done very well and have impacted positively on our economy. Lets take cars older than 15years allowed to be imported for example, for me i dont really see any long time well planned benefit of this policy to our economy, what it will only bring is more revenue for the govt, also it will make the country be flooded with bad cars, which in turn affect the environment. What i feel the govt should have done is only lift the ban on Big Vehicles older than 10years, which are capable of transporting huge number of people, like the BRT buses, and still keep the smaller cars below 10years, with that you are supporting the transportation industry, so that there will be less cars on the road, less pressure on roads and also give a big boost to the transportation sector, which will impact positively on the economy. Lets not even go into TEXTILE, toothpick and cassava importation, for heaven sake are we saying our local industry not capable of meeting the demands of the people. I just feel that a thorough analysis of the implication of lifting the ban was not done properly and its devastating effects in the long run on the economy was not taken into consideration, well maybe its because the Federal Govt of Nigeria can not see beyond their noses. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
Its is no longer news that the crises in Ivory Coast is really deteriorating into its Country Collapse, due to Gbagbo stubbornness to relinquish power to his main opposition who won the previous election, after facing stiff opposition from the United Nations, USA, ECowas, AU and some power block in the world. PLANS for the use of military force to remove Ivory Coast controversial President, Laurent Gbagbo, now depends on Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan who recently asked the Secretary-General of the United Nations for more time in order for him to send his Special Envoy to the troubled West African nation. The world has been calling on Nigeria to act, by deploying soldiers to the country and forcefully remove Gbagbo, like it had done in the past, as usual, due to our influence in the Western Region and because we chair the Ecowas Community. Jonathan is a man of principle and patience, and is a student of history. He has significantly refused the use of force and employed the use of diplomatic tactics, to broker a peace deal for Gbagbo to leave quietly, he sent a negotiating team on behalf of Ecowas, the AU sent former president Thambo Mbeki, as well as our Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo also went for a peace meeting to solve this crises, but it looks as if this Gbagbo President is so adamant. Jonathan knows that the use of military force to remove him, will not be the best option, because it is the country that will suffer,it is the innocent citizens that will die, the country's infrastructure will be damaged, and it will take longer years for the new government to really build it up back again. Even their will also be loses on our own path, not to talk of the financial strain on the country to go into war with Ivory Coast because the world says so. I believe Jonathan has really done well, not to yield to pressure coming from the international community to use force, but he has asked for more time, to explore all diplomatic options available to him. Many people may consider is inability to act on Gbagbo as a sign of a weak President , but i feel he is actually a very wise President who knows when to strike at the right time, I strongly believe if no other option is left to remove Gbagbo diplomaticaly, then he will be left with the only option of deploying soldiers to remove him, with the backing of the International Community. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
THE ongoing voters’ registration entered its second day yesterday with a lot of people still complaining about the quality of the DDC Machines and inability to register. In some states, the exercise was yet to start while in others where it has taken off, prospective voters have continued to display anger, frustration, and disappointment over their inability to locate any registration centre or technical hitches arising from the inability of some INEC officials to effectively operate the Direct Data Capture Machines (DDCMs). The Senate President David Mark and his wife, Helen, were among Nigerians affected by the technical fault in one of the machines deployed to his polling unit at the Old Government Reserved Area (GRA), Otukpo. Mark waited for almost one hour, but could not be registered due to technical challenges in the scanner attached to the DDC machine. After several unsuccessful attempts to capture his finger prints, the Registration Officer, Adeniji Musibau, pleaded with him to come back to register. Even the former President in his Home town could not register, due to the fact that the DDC Machine Scanner was refusing his thumb Print, the INEC staff had to quickly deploy an IT specialist to that area, after the ex-president waited for close to an hour, he finally registered. But he made an appeal to the public stating that when a new technology is being introduced to the public, their are bound to be challenges and it will be much more easier to registration in a few days time. As patriotic as i am, and fully understand that time is needed, but i feel their are major flaws in this registration process, for starters i don't think there was enough time given to really test the quality and efficiency of this machines on live subjects of a group of people, i do feel they could have test run it before the delta rerun, at least to find out where they need improvement, experts who have seen the machine, has also come out to say that the processing power of this machines are not up to standard, making the registration process longer, there are also a lot of glitches here and there concerning logistic problems, but hopefully am sure they will all be sorted out eventually. On sighting this Machines, i taught it was an entirely new technology, only to discover that it was the same type of machines that were used during national identity card registration, and i wonder where are those machines, and why was a case study not really done to find out the fundamental flaws of that registration, and again MTN are also using this machines to register their SIM's, and subscribers don't spend more than 5 mins on one registration, why didn't they contract part of those experts that organised and deployed MTN's SIM registration, i feel our pride got in a way there. I agree totally with OBJ that we should give them more time, that it will get better, but the truth is this, is there really enough time going by the statements of the National Assembly and INEC that they will not extend the registration process time period. curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
I believe the greatest hurdle of Jonathan becoming the president, has been scaled because the President faced stiff opposition within his own party, meanwhile getting a huge support from opposition parties. I have never witnessed before in this life where a huge number of opposition parties will endorse PDP presidential candidate even though most of them don't have strong hold on the people's vote, but not withstanding they endorsed Jonathan as their candidate. Its quite a long time also i have seen a president being loved by a lot of Nigerians, is it because of his leadership style or hope of a better tomorrow or the way he conducted himself before and after he became president. I find myself asking this questions, he must be an extremely lucky person or what. 1. He was hand picked for Deputy Governor 2. He became the Governor without being voted for. 3. He was handpicked for Vice President 4. He became the President without being voted for. 5. On his becoming Acting President, Obama met him, George Bush, Condoliler Rice, Tony Blair all came to visit him. It would have been a major blow if he didn't get the PDP ticket to represent them, but it was a very tensed PDP convention, even Jonathan was not totally sure of his victory. We congratulate Our President of Getting the ticket for PDP to contest as their Presidential candidate, and we also hope he will get the people's vote to rule them once more. |
I ask myself this question, time and time again whenever i here the different cases of murders happening around the country especially as it concerns Jos. As a nation do we enjoy killing and maiming people, do we have an ancestral history of killing one another with no justification. Just recently a horrific form of attack was carried out on a community in the state. A murderous gang creeps on a community already asleep by 1am, rouses the people by unleashing guns and arrows on them and creeps back under cover of night. At the end of the killing frenzy, about 18 people - men, women and children - lay dead. And the same people go back to their families, and lay to sleep with no conscience ever, the first time this killings happened early last year in Jos, where a huge number of women and children were killed in the middle of the night, i shed tears seeing the sights of little babies, children who are so innocent, who were just fortunate to be born in that area and period of time lying on the ground lifeless. I wonder, is there no exceptions to who you can kill, even in movies, child murders are not usually acted for the public to see, a girl gave her testimony when the Jos killings first took place early last year, she said she work up in the middle of the night with her father beside her, she was extremely scared, and her father asked her to run away from the house, immediately she left, they killed her father and burnt the whole house, now the little girl witnessed such violence, i wonder which mentality that girl will grow up to have. And not to talk of the retaliation killings by the victims and survivors of the attack on the suspected attackers, then it will escalate into a vicious circle of violence and murder. After every killings our Government will come up with a sorry statement, that they will fish out the people, security as been beefed up, yet murder still continues. Just recently where 18 people were killed in Jos, some Soldiers were nearby the village and must have heard the killings and chose to do nothing, why you may ask, although they have been arrested. I fear for this nation on the path we are following, whether political, or ethnic or religious related crises, this heinous crime must stop, we must begin to force down quality and informative education into this remote villages, so that changes can begin to occur in their mind and reasoning, in this areas where a cow's life is more valuable than a human being. I don't believe for one second we a nation of murderers, we are peace loving, accommodating and patience people who are tolerant to our differences, we may have cause to disagree but its not in our nature as a nation to kill our fellow brothers and sisters, all we can just do is to pray to God to forgive us a nation. I was filled with disgust when i saw the headline in a news tv station yesterday saying "ACN to Accept Defeated PDP Candidates" accredited to the ACN party Chairman. What is going on HERE!, i taught ACN was a party of ideologies, nobility, hard-work and vision, now i surely know better, they are all birds of the same feathers ACN regularly criticizes the PDP for it's lack of leadership, dishonesty and says PDP is a party full of criminals, and now they quickly turn around to accept PDP members, what and who were they criticizing, was it the people that are in PDP of just the logo of PDP. I really had high hopes for ACN, because of the legacy and principles of Fashola, thinking that ACN generally had the same thinking, I was dead wrong when i found out they were begging for PDP drop outs. A saying goes in Politics, there is no permanent Enemy only Permanent Interest, so with this view you may say its a political move to acquire more ground in some states, but when you accept people that don't share your vision, who at one point spoke against your party, and didn't plan to cross over to your party for the past 4years, it is when power is to be grabbed, then you now beg them to come. I remember long ago, when i did Jamb, i failed badly and i could not get into the school of my choice, i must have scored less than 150 out of 400, then a private higher institution sent me an admission letter accepting me with my low score, i didn't go because it downgraded the value of the school in my eyes for accepting such a low standard, thats exactly what ACN has done by saying it will accept defeated PDP candidates. beknown:Thank you, you have made my day, as wonderful the other comments were, you were the one that hit on a solution, rather than denying your conscience and trying to move away from the problem, i think your suggestions are wonderful and it has given me more ideas, i think what i will do in my little way is get those orphanages in lagos, and offer a free website to some of them, to express their needs on the web, so that people can help and donate to them, if anybody knows the addresses and contact numbers of the orphanages in Nigeria, please mail me at designteamtechnology@gmail.com or text me at 08033156713 (tunji), and if you feel there is more u can do please lets do it and stop this blame game. |
We see them in major bus stops all around lagos, 3years old and above, hanging to your hand, trouser or skirt, pleading for money, saying something, like "abeg give me money i never chop" sometimes you hand them a 10naira note or just simply ignore them, or totally avoid them. What we fail to understand is that, we has a society has totally damaged the physic or emotional state of the little child. 1. The child is pushed out by his mother to fend for him/herself, refusing the child love and protection, even mother hens fend for their little ones, not to talk of human beings. 2. When the child gets 10naira note from you, he feels he cannot get anything in life, only by begging for it (mental slavery) 3. When the child gets refused by you, he/she gets embarrassed and suffers emotional breakdown, feeling to him/herself that he/she is not wanted, and feels less human, thats why some develop habits of rudeness to block such feeling. The very foundation of this child is already traumatized, not to talk of female child beggars who get raped, molested and kidnapped for ritual purposes. As a nation we must question our conscience and humanity to see such things and turn a blind eye, as if we were not once kids. Most of us were pampered, spoilt and protected as a child, shielded from such hardships. Today, i dont want to blame the parent of the child, nor the government of the day, i want to focus on you and I, what we have done in adding or reducing to this dis-humanization. Oh we may say whats my business, am i the parent, but are we that callous not to have human feelings for another human being, have we totally lost our sense of pride and love as a nation. The fact remains that the parents of those children have failed, the government too has failed in their duties, must we also fail too as a person. Must we fold our hands and pray that all will be well, go to church and raise holy hands to God, asking him to bless you. The joy of living is to help another human being to live. In our little way we are capable of helping this children, if he/she was your blood child, sister or brother, would you really be happy to see those children go through that, the truth is that they are not our blood relatives, but they are our children, because God has placed them in our care. This nation will never move forward if we leave our problems in the hands of Government, or turn a blind eye to our problems, and saying that it does not concern me, then we are a nation of jokers who day dream of a better nation, when the people of the nation are not willing to be better persons. Nations can only be built when Citizens come together collectively and tackle their community problems. Don't just sit there and fold your hands, we can do something no matter how small, if 10 people come together and donate just 500naira a month, to keep a child in school and also feed him/her, with that act of kindness, you would have saved the life of that child from a terrible way of life. We are the future leaders of tomorrow, lets make a better leader than our current leaders curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
Are we a nation of dullards ?, or what, i cant just phantom how 80% of our students who studied for 3years for a particular exam, still managed to fail massively. We are a nation of jokers if we do not take this trend seriously and address the issue. Lets us look at the WAEC statistics Nov/Dec WAEC Exams 2010: Only 62,295 out of 310,077 obtained 5credits inclusive of maths and English, representing just 20% pass rate May/June WAEC Exams 2010: Only 33,0711 out of 1,351,557 had 5credits inclusive of maths and English, representing just 25% pass rate. June/July NECO 2010: Only 285,146 out of 1,113,117 had 5credits inclusive of maths and English, representing just 24.9% pass rate. Curled from www.voiceoutng.com |
Men, i had to wear dark glasses to view the site, even though the designer did a horrible job, at least the client that approved the quality of the job should be held responsible, because a website is a reflection of your brand and image, and you must protect it.
