Itakpe rail is supposed to move iron ore to Aladja and finished steel to Warri port for exports.

This is why there was a complimentary rolling mill in Aladja , Delta state that is connected by rail to Itakpe and Ajaokuta.

That was one drainpipe for Nigeria from the time of Shagari. I pray this is true.

There's a gas pipeline that was laid starting from Buhari and has since been commissioned.

At no time was the complex supposed to be coal fired.

The reason for the twin project at Aladja was to exchange gas from Delta to Ajaokuta and use the rail line to Itakpe to bring iron ore from Kogi to the steel plant in Delta.

Nigeria has since signed an agreement with the EU not to mine coal anymore given that the coal deposits in Enugu are of very inferior quality owing to high sulfur content making them terrible polluters.

That's how custom revenue is generated

Both from imports and exports.

Importation is a loss to any economy because scarce FX is lost to it and import tax and levies are further imposed on it to discourage it.

Meanwhile, exports generate both revenue via taxes and FX.

Exports lowers the trade deficit , increases FX inflows, maintains local production, hence creates jobs and strengthens the currency while imports do the very opposite.

The import based economy is the bane of our economy .

It not only drains scarce FX , increases trade deficits ,mounts pressure on the naira but sees to a collapse of local manufacturing hence job losses and high unemployment.

This is why I keep saying SE economic model has a negative effect on our overall economy.

High Customs revenue simply means it is now incredibly expensive to clear goods at the port. Importers pass that heavy cost down to the market, which is why a bag of rice, spare parts and electronics keep double-pricing.
