The thing though is that Yorubas believe more in quality while Ibos believe in quantity.

saworoide is a classic. i don't think it can be enjoyable to watch if done in another language.
a lot of things would be lost in translation

I have watched it like 100 times and every time, I understand more.

you can't go wrong with these two but they are not really commercially oriented. tade releases classical movies like once in 4 years and tunde kelani does his like once a year. not like the zeb/chico ejiros that produce 50 movies per week with substandard quality and mediocre actress. there's no igbo movie in the history of nigeria that will stand next to owoblow or madam dearest.
You are absolutely right.

What about Diamond Ring? Magun? Saworoide?

We rock!

Ever heard of Tade Ogidan or Tunde Kelani?

Most actresses in the Yoruba movie genre are so 'razz', fetish, and classless in real life - even worse than they are in movies. They can't even speak English to save their lives.

Meanwhile this whole argument here about who started or who 'owns' the industry between Igbo and Yoruba is really infantile. Anyone that is old enough, and whose brain is uncorrupted by the virus of ethnic bigotry, knows that contemporary Nollywood as we know it was ushered in by the classic Igbo movie called 'Living in Bondage' in 1992, and the industry has largely remained funded, marketed, distributed and ultimately powered by Igbo elements. What is there to argue about?
Before Nollywood came into existence in the 1990's was there anything that preceeded it?

Of course there was. Nigeria is a very rich cultural entity, which has for decades produced very beautiful and even world acclaimed theatre productions, which is where this movie industry takes root.

Herbert Ogunde and Ola Balogun amongst of few others all made movies that were shown in the few theatres that existed during the 1970's and 1980's. These films include "Jaiyesimi", "Aiye" and "Taxi-Driver", these were all done in Yoruba (the language of the South Western States),

the movies done in English prior to Igbo-wood include "Bisi Daughter of The River" and Prof. Wole Soyinka's "Blues For A Prodigal" amongst a few others.

The problem of funding, expensive equipment and piracy amongst others made sure that these early efforts did not take root and develop into the great industry as we see it today.

Just accept the truth and shame the devil

Once again, Yoruba thumps Igbo

This is not a beef talk, if it was, it would be something market women would be discussing. This is just another attempt by me to set the record straight.

Jarus = Becomrichn = Benin republic = Nuhu Ribadu

On a more serious note, I thought the OP did a fair to average job, but erred with his harsh criticism of Taofeek's background. And yes, Taofeek represents the common man, including yours truly at that age. His characterization of Taofeek was unnecessary and reeks of arrogance and baseless pride in his acquired western education, saying: ".  .   . but he couldn’t say anything coherent. I found it pardonable, although at that age somebody like me was already expressing political opinions on pages of newspapers, but today these children or men not only lack the basic English grammar skills to express themselves, they can only analyze English Premier League in Yoruba!" And, so what is wrong with analyzing EPL in Yoruba language? It does seem that with his education, the OP for a while lost his senses.

A little bit of introspection who have made it clear to the OP that Taofeek's first Language is Yoruba and it would be out of place and really silly for anyone to expect him to express himself in a language foreign to him. How often do our colonial masters criticize themselves or their children for speaking in a foreign language?  But this is what we have reduced our national discourse to, creating divisions among ourselves on the basis of our ability or inability to converse in the Queen's language. And it seems the educated elite like the OP passed through school, but failed to allow the school to pass through them.  It seems that the OP, like , sadly enough, Nigerian educated commentators, has fallen deep into the abyss of Colonial mentality where feelings of inferiority to and wanton regard of foreign values and culture are seen or perceived to be superior to  our own culture and language.

And to buttress the OP's lack of critical thinking skills, he wrote "they don’t listen to news, don’t read newspapers, don’t know anything about politics or economy." as though Taofeek got to know about GEJ from his dreams.  And when does not knowing about politics and economy become a character flaw to the point that it made Taofeek unsuitable to vote or participate in our nascent democracy. We all  did not go to OAU like the OP, and even if we did, we all cannot study economics like the OP. It is high time the OP and his Ilks broaden their knowledge beyond  their immediate sphere of focus, as failure to do so can only bring more shock to the OP as he progresses in life

I see nothing wrong in Taofeek's ignorance, on the contrary I see a lotta good in it. It tme that, unlike his peers, he is up and doing, working hard, lookin out for himself, and have little time for trivialities. And, these characteristics of Taofeek IMO are good. It has been my experience that people who follow politics religiously often fall into two groups: the very educated and the very lazy and jobless bunch. It is not out of place  even in the west to come across educated fellows who are ignorant of their immediate surroundings. I know a lot of very educated people in the US who have no idea who their governor is, cared less who their senate is and yet are not castigated as the OP as done to our poor Taofeek

Ultimately, this article was written in poor taste and , let no one be deceived, it was not about Buhari or his failing campaign. It was always about the OP, his narcissistic attitude, his baseless pride and arrogance and his deep seated desire to feel better than others. It is about the OPs desire to feel some sense of accomplishment, in the gloom political landscape, and to save face and ego from his inability to achieve or bring to reality fast enough what his western-style education promised. And, unfortunately, he found this in poor Taofeek and in the so many innocent and hardworking Taofeeks all over the country he has never met, but on whom he had already conjured grim outlook.

Abeg, help me tell them. Every statement against a Nigerian from the Yoruba ethnic group by an Igbo man is now a sound of war drums. This Ethnic blindness is the reason why I believe Nigeria will break in no time.
STFU. Mind your business

Go talk about APGA and PPA, leave us alone. Wait a minute, those are dead parties aka Ojukwu PLC and like every thing Ibo, they have to attach themselves to the Yorubas to be relevant. Just as how, they all leave their decrepit abode in the  east  for better standard of living in the South West, how they prefer our universities to their glorified High schools, how they preferred our girls to the bear bear hermaphroditic females and lastly just as how they have to always compare themselves to the Almighty Yoruba race.

Dont you guys get tired! Anuofia you all.

What is Nigeria turning into? How can a big telco like MTN be dragged into this mess called PDP. How can they provide call and texts logs of their subscribers even going as far as providing cell stations at which calls originated from and terminated when no law unit (court or police) has asked them to do so. They are in for it, i think if handled properly, this will certainly lead to their doom in Nigeria.
How can it lead to their doom when they have the backing of the government. As a matter of fact, this act, condemnable as it may seem, should lead them to their boom.
