eku_bear: You should go on some of the Yoruba mailing lists on Yahoo Groups and see what people think about him, whether he is viewed as a leader or not. Granted, they might not be completely representative, but it should give you an idea of what SW folks think of him. I talk to people on ground I talk to my classmates in Nigeria and friends who are on ground Even as a Governor, he was not well liked. Of course, a handful would adore him, but that is not representative of the sentiment of the whole ethnic group! |

Kobojunkie: It has absolutely nothing to do with him agreeing with me or not. Matter of fact, I tend not to spend time DEBATING those who see things as I do. I see no point in that ever. It is just that I feel he probably believes a lot of what he says is true and I would rather he, through experience, personal research, etc. learns the truth. Honestly, other than that, I don’t know how else to respond to him. So you knows the truth and every one who does not agree with you is yet to KNOW THE TRUTH What arrant arrogance! You need to have your head checked, seriously! Gosh! |

eku_bear: Generally speaking, you don't arrest prominent members of the political opposition immediately before an election. . . it is pretty poor form. Well, FYI, this is NIgeria Everything goes! OBJ threatened Peter Odili with arrest in 2007; that was the reason Odili dropped out of the race. Abiola was arrested after he won an election! So I wouldnt put anything past GEJ; Tinubu is a crook and they can legally arrest him And BTW, they dont have to arrest him, they can also kill him, prolly a better option. |

I should have put it in quotes? Would that make you happy?! I'm comparing how practices are viewed by different people. Leave me alone.
Does everyone view abortion the same? People did sacrifices due to their ignorance and they know better. I do not accept outiders defining us. So I get defensive. Big deal!
How am I like Hitler? And how am I a fanatic?
You just can't stop fighting. . . I find your line of reasoning to be in congruent with what you'd expect of and from a religious fanatic Abortion does not equal to killing babies, hope i did not come off as a philosopher. Time and again, you always allow your religious upbringing to colour your outlook and how you define yourself and events The other day it was about gays, now it is abortion. |

isale_gan2: You mean incestuous on the part of the fetuses, right? Or, like, the 2 genders in one womb symbolized an inbreeding happened in the past?
Anyway, thanks very much for that. I never knew why. Most of us read it for the first time in Things Fall Apart, and didn't research it further.
I believe the Ibos are a proud people with a rich culture. We all have incidents of one form of sacrifice or another in our past. I hesitate to call any of us barbaric. The oyinbos kill milions of babies every year via state-sanctioned abortions and no one calls them barbaric. I stopped taking you seriously the moment I knew you were a religious fundermentalist aka fanatic. People like you are worse than Hitler seriously! When did abortion = killing babies? |

I foresee problems for this thread O.
Anyway, most of us didn't know this until we read it in Things Fall Apart. I doubt Igbo people of recent generations can really explain it either. It wasn't their decision what was a longstanding ritual in their tradition.
And how come you didn't ask your granma?

Kobojunkie: I think that depends on the way you choose to see it. There is no denying that in the 20 months the Buhari administration was in charge, Nigerian people really got much of what they had been asking their government for, and that is some semblance of sanity, something we have not had in this country since after those short 20 months. Since Democracy is really about giving the people what they want, one could argue that we did, to an extent, get what we wanted during that brief period in our history.

PDP primaries: Adebutu wins Remo federal constituency seat | Print | E-mail Written by Dare Adekanmbi Friday, 07 January 2011 THE son of Chief Kessington Adebutu, a business tycoon, Chief Ladi Adebutu, on Thursday, won the House of Representatives seat for Remo constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Chief Adebutu won convincingly with 742 votes, to defeat two other aspirants, Chief Fatai Sowemimo and Honourable Dave Salako, who is a two-term representative from the zone. The defeated aspirants had seven and 10 votes respectively. The election, which was conduct in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and violence, had the governor of the state, Chief Gbenga Daniel, who cast his vote around 2.30 p.m and politicians from Remoland, in attendance. The House of Representatives candidate, in his reaction to the victory, burst into tears, which his associates described as tears of joy. In an interview with newsmen, the father of the candidate, Chief Adebutu, expressed joy at the emergence of his son as the candidate from Remoland. “I am so happy about the whole arrangement. As you can see, everything is orderly. I am not a politician and I do not intend to be one. But I have to support my son, although politics is not my bread and butter,” he said. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/15833-pdp-primaries-adebutu-wins-remo-federal-constituency-seat |
