Anyone with common sense can learn programming. But one thing is certain Be you a Self taught programmer or not. You cannot be a good/great programmer without having a sound "Computational Thinking". That there is the foundation of CS my friend.

Outside of your classroom; Two things count in the real-world, knowledge and experience. That’s it.

@mrAMG2 and Fathertony, I appreciate your comments.

I'm very serious with my offer, I've always voiced my opinion about this platform. From my end, Even though I lead the charge: I'm not the sole funder, it's aggregated with colleagues and believers who are interested as well.. Took a while and a lot to be finally able to make the call. But I'm looking forward to getting perhaps an invitation to speak with Nairaland's management. .. Until then.

I'll do well to contact you personally if the deal goes forward.

This Post is directed towards Nairaland management team and advisory board. I'm offering ₦360,000,000 in exchange for a 85% ownership stake of Nairaland.com of which i'm also willing to discuss in a open negotiation with the board members.

I appreciate Mr Seun's contribution on this great platform , Albeit i believe with myself and my team together on board, we as a team can journey with the users and together build the Nairaland our nation truly deserves and ultimately what the future deserves.

Thank you.

An iron rod.. 43 inches long, 1.3 inches in diameter.. Weighing 13lb (6kg +) went through his skull.. (penetrated the left cheek, ripped into his brain and exited through his skull)

He was laughing after the situation,

Nairaland / General / Can Nairaland Just Add Post As Anonymous Option by FTF2069(m): 8:48am On Mar 30, 2019
As an open forum; this idea of users having to create new accounts to seek opinion with a new screen name/moniker needs to be solved. Users don't have to go through all of that just to speak on a forum like this.

The Disadvantages:
1.Stressing users
2. Data Redundancy
3. Unreliable user stats

I didn't follow the link though, but;

Doesn't creating a new mobile Os invariably creates a need for an apps Ecosystem like Playstore, App store etc.

I suppose it's a tough shot to build an app community to rival the established ones, even Ubuntu's cannonical mobile store had to be shut down, we saw what Happened to Windows mobile, Blackberry etc.

Would businesses and Developers be willing to spend on creating new apps for a new Os.

Freeze is an agent of the devil sent to attack the most vital feature of a believer which is Faith. Freeze wants you to be logical with your faith. He wants to move you into the realm where God cannot function which is the realm of logic and reason.

Fortunately, Logic doesn't cut with God. If you must be a believer in Jesus then you must first understand that logic and reason are anti faith. You must be able to wear the garment of faith while putting off the garment of intellect.

Can nairaland get us a downvote button . I bind you with awe of intellect, sound philosophy and logic.

We refuse to lose our thinking capabilities as an alternative forgone for Faith. Which is what religion proposes.

The offer of Religion as a offer of certainty, as a offer of security, no matter how tempting it is, the offer of impermeable faith that can't give way; is an offer of something not worth having.

For anyone reading this to reduce the odds of stolen certificate:

1. get a copy of all your original document in a secured server on the cloud.: Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox etc.
2. Get a colored copy of all valuable original document. Print them out with A* grade printers and standard papers. You can even laminated it after if you want.
3. Keep your your actual original documents in a local secured place. could be in your house or (bank if you can afford it.). Go out less with these.

A soft copy and a standard colored printout of your original document will work in most cases.. at least for the basic things we need them for. I've been doing this for a while.

Stop carrying your original certificates up and down to photocopying shop. Get a soft copy with you and print those often. It can reduce the odds of losing your originals.

If you have ideas of what you feel nairaland lacks you can build a platform and put such feature in that platform. It will make Seun more innovative or dont you think so? Google and yahoo could be a good case study.

For guys interested in Forum things.. they could ride the lane. I could in fact but my focus isn't on forums. My interest lies in other areas.

However If you are reading this and thinking you can build the next big thing to compete. You can!.

Medium started in 2012. Has over 60million active daily readers (1Q 2018). A product people believe in, they can even contribute to it. One if the reasons I started paying membership on medium was when I discovered that content creators get paid with our monies too.. I couldn't resist the urge to give to these brilliant guys.and I clap well for their articles.

There are brilliant guys like that in Nigeria who someone like me will pay to read their works if there is a right channel for that. And I believe there are a lot of us in Africa who would too.

P.S Not saying just build a "Nigerian medium" but rather I'm saying a good product with right exposure sells no matter.

Nairaland's metrics may be great now but I'm not seeing it positioning itself strategically for the future.

the update you are talking about probably means making the site as functional as Reddit with all those fancy features.

Nairaland is targeted deeply at Africans especially Nigerians unlike Reddit with American and European userbase, and because of Nairaland's simplicity, very old and low quality mobile device which are in great abundance in Nigeria has almost the same user experience with people using high end phones.

what am trying to say is, the site is good as it is, it is targeting Nigerians not Americans, I for one is using the old version opera mini browser on a low end android device and I'm having a seamless experience with Nairaland while this isn't the case with "modern" websites like Reddit, Quora etc with their Ajax calls and infinite scrolling, am sure others will agree too

I understand your point quite well.. "if it's not broke don't fix it" mentality.. but I believe the only reason why someone would have this kind of mentality is because you don’t know how much better it could be.

It just needs to be better, matching up the taste of the current era and whilst preserving it's very essence as a forum.

Usually this problem/mentality is why Nigeria/African market fail to make a products that earns a global respect. Maybe Ṣeun's view might be to keep Nairaland the way it is. I'm just here arguing as to why he can make a better nairaland. I believe nairaland users are as important as Nairaland and if you think the way nairaland is since you've ever started using as a user is the best it can ever be. Then I'm wowed.

But I know Nairaland isn't my project neither do I have a share in the company so the calls aren't mine.

I'm just sharing my views as a fellow user on this platform who believes it can be better.

You may say why am I using it then.. Nairaland no doubt had been incredibly useful to me personally. On solutions, connecting and getting views about subject I don't get to meet people on regular basis talk about and I'm more fascinated that this guys are Nigerians.

But If we will stay stucked with "if ain't broke don't fix it".. Nairaland won't last longer than you're imagining it.. Why? Times change. I celebrate the run so far.. but preparing for a new shift is key. It's coming. You'll be surprised at how much change we will witness in Nigeria both online and offline in the coming years.

Reddit has something called Reddit Gold.
I don’t know what it does but I see it used as a form of payment for well composed thoughtful comments.
Every rational human being knows people spend time and brainpower to come up with opinions.
It is also common sense to find ways no matter how little to encourage them.
Even with Reddit Gold in place the comments I see on the forum don’t look ‘doctored’ in any way.

A good way to look at it.. thanks.

Personally I don't really like the idea of paying or getting paid to read news, like or comments.. I believe at the end of the day the comment section is going to look doctored and the likes aren't true.

I'm not against Content creators owning and getting paid for their works by the way. That's why I find the Medium.com way of rewarding creators more appealing.

I don't buy the idea of Forums rewarding readers for likes, commenting etc. I believe it reduce the intangibility of the Creators work.

The only forum you can build that will give Seun a run for his money is a blockchain based site where users earn tradable coins for posting, commenting, liking and sharing on the platform.

Although there are some problems to be envisaged, but you will definitely draw out almost half of the population. Checkout weku.io or smoke.io and see what I mean.

I'm just hearing about Weku.. I checked it out.

A lot of us have been voicing our opinion, views to Ṣeun for quite some years now.. about the need for change but we haven't heard back. Ṣeun hasn't really addressed us on the reasons holding him back.

Nairaland has been around for over a decade now. No real restructuring. Same emoji, same old design, insufficient functions and it sucks on a lot of level. To open this website in public na wahala

The reason we still hang on to Nairaland is because of the it's depth of content, the community, the trolls, the excitement and lalasticlala.

I don't know why Ṣeun hasn't taken Nairaland to the next level but I would like to ask if Ṣeun is willing to sell Nairaland.

We (a team) could buy it out in a nice deal and we'll take it to the Next level ourselves. #My humble opinion.

See list ooo. All these bitter Nigerian men everywhere. I'm sure you haven't seen cases where a man marries a single mom and they had a good marriage and years later the child becomes the one taking care of the couple even better than their own kids?
Ok, let us assume she made a terrible mistake, has realized her mistake and wants to correct it even throughout her lifetime, who are you to judge and say she doesn't deserve a chance to love?
I'm sure if it's your relative or your daughter that is involved, you won't write this epistle, selfish wicked men everywhere.

I never said she doesn't deserve a chance to love or to be loved. All i pointed out is that the decisions she made in life has pretty much made things more complex, and that's the reality, no bullshitting . Another thing we all know about life is that people can be really determined to achieve a particular result, just that it's much harder with marriage or relationships, because it's takes two to work. It's not complex to understand that getting involved with a single mother is harder to manage. and as a man or human being in general we choose our battles.

There's is always exception to the rule. But exceptions to the rule aren't born out of mere wish thinking, but with grit, believe, love, respect and ultimately acceptance that They (the couples) want to make it work against all the odds.

But in the end it comes down to: is the woman worth it? If a single mother is worth you cutting your loses on all those troubles. Then she must be really providing something all other single ladies with no complicated past can not offer.
Romance / Re: *Never Mind* by FTF2069(m): 4:49pm On Feb 17, 2019
@ OP, it's never a good deal to have another man's baby mama as your woman. Here is my reason for saying so:

1. She shares a unique bond with another man and the very manifestation of the bond (Child) is your responsibility

2. The child is never yours. No matter how you try to convince yourself that it's okay, The child is never yours. it's better to go to motherless home to adopt than to raise a child your woman brought from another man.

3. The child becomes your responsibility. As a man of the house the child becomes your responsibility. but remember, you're not the Father, and you'll never be and she knows this. even though the child is your responsibility, the degree to which you can instill your values in the child is her call.

4. It's more expensive, because you're simultaneously trying to make the mother and the child accept you as the Man. Financially, time wise etc.

5. You're raising another man's child before yours.

6. Women will always be women, she'll constantly ponder on what becomes the fate of her child from another man when she finally gives you yours. she might even want to delay until her child becomes a little of age before giving that chance. Even though she wouldn't explicitly tell you that's the problem it will cause some friction and men don't win such.

7. If things goes sour and you guys, and you part ways with the woman. The relationship you have with the child just went down the drain.

8. Women by their nature, no matter how furnished she is with MSc, PhD.. her words don't mean shit to her when she takes on that nature of a sly. Could be to her defense or to the child defense, don't be surprised when she make you realize you not her child's father one way or the other.

9. It doesn't speak well of a woman who has a child for a man she's not with. It means two things.
(a). She has some bad character trait her baby daddy is not ready to put up with, that isn't obvious to you yet
(b). She got so irresponsible to hook up with a man who doesn't want to have his child with him; and that shows her level of decision making when it comes to choices. Forget her Bsc, Msc, PhD etc. majority of women suck at making basic, good life decisions.

10. This is Nigeria, you don't take a man's child away from him forever. He's coming back. prepare for that.

If you just want to have a fling with her.. then you might get a Yes from me. But if she's someone you're reasoning a future with.. Think it through thoroughly man.

For ladies reading this.. Just stop being Baby mamas. You're making decisions complicated for men that really wants you. If the guy doesn't give you a ring; as in marriage. Don't ever agree to make a baby with him. Final.

For the Yorubas here, who says demeaning things about the Òrìsà and the tradition and the religion. You're naive. The Yoruba religion in my own opinion is the most tolerant and most civil religion in Nigeria.

I bet the only reason Christianity and Islam grew base here is because of the great commission it has to spread the word, Soul winning they call it. But when it comes to understanding the environment, sociology, the person and nature of Olódùmarè, human life and spirituality. Christianity and Islam will line up behind the traditional religion.

The "Orishas" are not Gods. There's only one true God we know, his name is Olódùmarè.

Funny how Christianity claims Olódùmarè, rebrands Èṣù.
Olódùmarè/Ọlọ́run/ Is not the God in the Bible, and Èṣù Is not the Devil/Satan.
Oluiwa Is an attribute of Olódùmarè.

Before the foreign religions came, we knew God, we had life, we had truth, we had morals, we had Heaven, we had Hell, we had blessings. They came in here to tell us, we are children of a lesser God. And you believed. Told us a story using our elements and you turned against your very own.

Most of you only Know what Nollywood shows to you. No wonder you get scammed about the truth in reality.

Before you condemn the religion, ask what does the Corpus say. Who is Orunmila, and what does God say about this act.

Seeing the terrible news coming from Churches and the Moslem sects should I conclude Christianity and Islam is vain and just about that. If you know the numbers of death, religious wars sponsored by Christianity and Islam from it's inception. It's more worrisome and Makes one wonder.

Rethink your view of the traditional religion, it's not evil and by it did our fore fathers survived a more catastrophic era of formation of human sociology, values and categorical imperatives. Every major culture of the world had their religion. Over 4000 religion out there in the world. Don't allow some guys who came from the middle East tell you their religion is the way; for them it is. But for us, Abraham isn't our father, Oduduwa Is.

Health / Study Links High Levels Of Screen Time To Slower Child Development by FTF2069(m): 11:37am On Jan 30, 2019
A study has linked high levels of screen time with delayed development in children, reigniting the row over the extent to which parents should limit how long their offspring spend with electronic devices.

Researchers in Canada say children who spent more time with screens at two years of age did worse on tests of development at age three than children who had spent little time with devices. A similar result was found when children’s screen time at three years old was compared with their development at five years.

“What is new in this study is that we are studying really young children, so aged 2-5, when brain development is really rapidly progressing and also child development is unfolding so rapidly,” Dr Sheri Madigan, first author of the study from the University of Calgary, told the Guardian. “We are getting at these lasting effects,” she added of the study.

The authors say parents should be cautious about how long children are allowed to spend with devices.

“Excessive screen time can impinge on children’s ability to develop optimally,” they write. “It is recommended that paediatricians and healthcare practitioners guide parents on appropriate amounts of screen exposure and discuss potential consequences of excessive screen use.”

But the results have been contested by others in the field who say the study did not take into account what the children were using the screens for, and that the influence of screens had a smaller effect than other factors such as family income, the child’s sleep and whether they were read to.

Programming / Re: Please Help With Paystack Integration! by FTF2069(m): 3:46pm On Jan 29, 2019
@Empressabbie, solved it?. Try this

1. Inside of your button call the function like this:
<button onclick=payWithPaystack()>

2. Inside of your Script.js or <script>
2a. You have to disable the default action of your submit button first. Like this:

document.getElementById("yourFormIDhere" ).onsubmit = function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
};

2b. Followed by getting the details from the form. Like this:

var email = document.getElementById("email" ).value;
var amount = document.getElementById("amount" ).value;
var xyz = document.getElementById("xyz" ).value;

2c. Followed by the paystack function;

function payWithPaystack() {

var handler = PaystackPop.setup({
key: 'your_public_key', //put your public key here
email: email, //put your customer's email here
amount: amount, //amount the customer is supposed to pay
xyz: xyz
metadata: { ...

you could sync step 2b and 2c together in a single block.

I second what @traihit said. But in addition I think you need to resolve "Why you want to Quit" first before you can really achieve anything. Religious persons have offered you a source of reason. It works, I've seen it. Not because of who ever it is you believed but because of the "reason why" you need to is resolved. If you don't have a profound reason your Brain will just be playing you like tennis grin

Hypnotherapy can help you change your habits. Talk to a hypnotherapist around you and explain your goal. Fact is, there's no therapist can make your sexual needs disappear. If you want to stop using porn, you will have to find your sexual satisfaction elsewhere (1 Corinthians 7:2).

Get busy doing things that are productive and worthwhile. Coupled with things @traihit said, you'll forget to Watch porn.
