Your Performance Was Exceptional: FIFA Allows Morocco To Host Next Club World Cup

Morocco is set to host the next global football tournament in February as FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced the North African country will be the host of the Club World Cup after six weeks.

The FIFA Club World Cup has been held every year since 2005 and has been hosted by Brazil, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Qatar.

Infantino also said that the tournament, which currently involves seven teams, would now be held every four years and would feature 32 teams from 2025, making it similar to the World Cup.

The seven teams include the champions of every continental competition as well as the host nation’s top team.

Infantino said the new format will boost FIFA revenues, and that the expected revenues for the global football association are $11 billion for the period between 2022 and 2026, without including the 2025 Club World Cup.

“This 11 billion figure is without the club World Cup [in 2025]. At the end of the four years we will make even more revenues,” Infantino told a news conference.

Morocco made history in the current Qatar World Cup when it reached the semi-finals to become the first African or Arab country to reach the last four.

The country beat Spain and Portugal in the knockouts but France beat the Moroccan national team 2-0 in Wednesday’s semi-finals match.

The north African side will now play Croatia, with whom they drew in their opening game of the tournament, in the third-place playoff on Saturday.

Arewa Youth Organisation Calls on FG to Caution Ahmed Isah, Brekete Family Radio, Gives Reasons

The Arewa Youth Assembly has called on the Federal Government to act fast and caution a human rights activist and chief anchor of the Brekete Family Radion, Ahmed Isah.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, December 16, the publicity secretary of the organisation, Ali Muhammad, accused Isah, popularly known as Ordinary President, of professional misconduct and positioning himself as a constituted authority.


Muhammad also alleging that Isah had used his platform to malign the integrity and reputation of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and its key staff; the immediate past president of the Nigerian Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick among others have continued to pose as an assault to the nation's judiciary.

Muhammad citing a case of Gudaji Kazaure, a lawmaker of the House of Representatives who raised alarm over perceived corruption within the Central Bank of Nigeria , said Isah has made his station available for maligning public figures and reputable government agencies.

He said:

"We wonder what or who has given Ahmed Isa this much power to a point of calling himself a President, using his radio house as a courtroom, where various cases are heard and verdicts and passed with him as the lawyer and the judge as well.

"He thinks of himself as so powerful that he can decide to call any calibre of Nigerian whenever he wishes to, not minding the nature of work and how busy the individual could be at that material time.

He alone has taken up the responsibility of acting as the commander in chief of our dear country, continuously undermining and making a mockery of the office and person of President Muhammadu Buhari severally as was seen in the case of the ASUU strike, where he was quoted to have said he would pay up ASUU, inciting Nigerians against their one, and true President.

"With the way things are going, if Ahmed Isa is left unchecked, we might one day witness a coup de tat, Ahmad Isa is power drunk and can do unseen things to acquire it, since he has undermined every legally constituted authority in this country."

Arewa Youths Assembly's prayers to FG:

Making the demands known, the organisation urged the FG to ensure that Nigeria's broadcasting codes are strictly adhered to while punishing those that veered off with full wrath of the law.

Alleging that Isah seems to be forming a parallel government in Nigeria, Muhammad called on the Nigerian government and all security agencies to look into the activities of the broadcaster and the Berkete family to authenticate their source of funding and their overall activities.

He added:

"The Arewa Youth Assembly is vigilant, attentively paying attention, hence calling with a strong voice of caution on those individuals who go to the Brekete radio house to not discuss sensitive national issues that are capable of causing chaos, disorderliness or incite the youths to violence."

Ahmed Isah reacts...

Speaking to Legit.ng, Isah said although he doubts the authenticity of the organisation making the claims, he would, however, appreciate it if they point to the section of the broadcasting code he has violated.
His words:

"I am human and I keep saying it I am not perfect, I am ready to make amends where necessary. Let them identify the sections of the code I have breached and if there is a need for me to make corrections, I take them. I am not a perfect human being.

"I say this all the time, I am only being moved by the zeal to see a better society in Nigeria."

Also, stating that the attack on his person and his broadcast station is sponsored by some supposedly high and mighty corrupt Nigerians, Isa says he is optimistic that Nigeria will become a better place once the country is rid of corruption.

Isa added:

"It is corruption that is fighting back, the table is shaking and it is affecting a lot of people. Again, the target is for the radio stations to shut down, we've never had it this bad but will we get it right."

Also addressing some of the issues raised by the organisation, Isa for every issue handled by his radio station, his team make a concrete effort to balance their reporting.

He said:

"On Pinnick's allegation, I reached out to Pinnick to hear his own side of the story same with that of the CBN and its governor, Godwin Emefiele and that is what we always do - seek balance."

FG backtracks, announces suspension of shut down of broadcast stations

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the National Broadcasting Commission has suspended the shutdown of some broadcast stations across Nigeria over the failure to renew their broadcasting licences.

NBC had on Friday, August 19, issued a shutdown notice to the licensees including DAAR Communications Ltd and Silverbird TV/Rhythm FM and others that are indebted to the commission.

However, a statement signed by NBC's director-general, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, said the commission would be reneging on its initial declaration.

NBC revokes licences of Silverbird, AIT, Raypower, Rhythm FM, gives them 24 hours to shut down

The National Broadcasting Commission had taken strong action against 52 radio and TV stations across the country.

A statement by the commission indicates that it has revoked the licenses of Silverbird TV, AIT, and others over failure to renew their broadcast licences.

The media stations, according to the NBC, have also been given 24 hours to shut down their operations.

Portugal legend Luis Figo has reacted to Portugal’s quarter-final defeat to Morocco on Saturday.

A goal from Youssef En Nesyri was enough for Morocco to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup and put an end to the Portuguese dream.

According to former Barcelona and Real Madrid winger Luis Figo, Portugal head coach Fernando Santos was wrong to bench Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo against Morocco.

“It is impossible to win a World Cup with ‘CR7’ on the bench,” Figo told Ole.

Santos benched Ronaldo for Portugal’s 6-1 demolition of Switzerland in the quarter-finals but Figo insists the Portugal head coach was wrong to bench Ronaldo in the quarter-finals against Morocco.

Figo added: “Beat Switzerland? Excellent! But can you do that in every match? No.”

According to Figo, Santos is to blame for Portugal’s elimination: “Leaving Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench was a mistake, this defeat is the coach’s responsibility,” he concluded.

Peter Obi Sets New Record As He Becomes The Only Aspirant To Appear In Google’s Top 10 Search List

The top Google’s top 10 search list is a list that shows the highest number of searched people, places, events, or anything for a given period.

An update for the year 2022 has been released by Google and it shows the top 10 highest searches in Nigeria as the year 2022 gradually comes to an end.

From the list, the African Cup of Nations, AFCON was the most searched in the year 2022.

It was also followed by the ASUU strike which lasted for eight months, iPhone 14, and other top searches which includes Oxlade, NATO, Buga, Peter Obi, Ukraine, World Cup, and Asake which sums up to 10.

Among the most searched people, we have Nigerian singer Oxlade who trended on social media after his sex tape got leaked on the internet. Oxlade was followed by Peter Obi, Asake, Black Sheriff, Casemiro, Vladimir Putin, Lisandro Martinez, Antony, Gabriel Jesus, and Raphinha which sums up to 10.

From the list, it could be seen that Peter Obi is the only presidential aspirant that appeared among the top 10 most searched people in Nigeria for the year 2022 which is of course a record among the contesting candidates.

It would also be recalled that Peter Obi joined the Labour Party some months ago after declaring his presidential ambition.

Police Arrest Three Motorcycle Robbers In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Comman d has arrested three members of a robbery syndicate, who specialised in snatching motorcycles from their owners.

The Spokesman of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the trio was arrested on December 5th.
Oyeyemi gave the names of the suspects as

Daniel Akapo, 27 years, Idowu Ajao Sunday, 20 years, and Dare Olusegun 24 years.

According to him, they were arrested following a distress call received by policemen attached to Ago Iwoye divisional headquarters, that a motorcyclist, one Shefiu Moshood was being attacked by two men who pretended as passengers and asked him to take them to Oke Erigba village on his motorcycle.

He said the two suspects suddenly stopped him along the road and told him that they were not going again.

The police image maker disclosed that the two men pretended as if they wanted to give him money only to bring out “powdered grinded pepper and rubbed it on the eyes of the rider, with the view to snatch the motorcycle from him.”

The police spokesman added , “While he was struggling with them, a battle axe fell from the suspects’ bag, which the victim picked to attack them back.

“While the struggle was going on, the DPO Ago Iwoye division, SP Noah Adekanye, arrived at the scene with his men and some OPC men.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels but they were hotly chased and the duo of Daniel Akapo and Idowu Sunday were apprehended.

“On interrogation, they confessed to the commission of the crime, and they informed the police that, it was one Dare Olusegun who asked them to go and snatch the motorcycle with the promise that he would help them to sell it somewhere in Ibadan.

“Their confession led them to the arrest of the said Dare Olusegun, who also corroborated the statements of the arrested suspects.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre S. Bankole, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the state criminal investigation department for discreet investigation.”

The ruling party presidential candidate appeared before a diverse audience at the British think-tank on Monday.

The Chatham House on Tuesday said Bola Tinubu ambushed its chairman when he appeared for an interactive session on Monday morning.

The frontline British think-tank said the ruling All Progressives Congress presidential candidate undermined its normal arrangement and did not seek prior permission to act in the manner he did.

Mr Tinubu, during his appearance, delegated political surrogates that included Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to answer questions on his behalf.

Mr Tinubu assigned the question on oil theft to one of his campaign spokespersons, Dele Alake; the question on security he assigned to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna; and the question on youth development and inclusion to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River. 

Also, a former commissioner of finance in Lagos, Wale Edun, was asked to answer the question on job creation; Mr Gbajabiamila answered a question on national defence while incumbent Lagos State governor Mr Sanwo-Olu took the question on youth inclusion in politics and governance.

“Yesterday’s event was not the norm and our Chair was not notified in advance that Mr Tinubu would be delegating questions,” a spokesperson for Chatham House said in an email to Peoples Gazette. “The principle of Chatham House events is to be able to hear the views of invited speakers, and also to hold those speakers to account.”

Nigerians have expressed serious condemnation of Mr Tinubu’s conduct during the question and answer session of the event. The former Lagos governor failed to express his plans for the country in several areas of governance, including health, education, economy and national defence.

Mr Tinubu, who has continued to ignore Nigerian media, has committed repeated blunders on the campaign trail that critics said showed manifestation of severe medical conditions.

Since the start of the campaign in February, Mr Tinubu has been seen urinating on himself, carrying a catheter device to take his bodily waste and speaking gibberish during public appearances.

The presidential candidate has dismissed public concerns about his health, saying it was misplaced since he only needs his mental capacity to govern and not his physical capacity, which should be reserved for manual labour workers.
