Please make corrections to my list below: 1. Wole Soyinka Nigeria's only laureate and a major critic of the Jonathan administration, especially the handling of the Rivers state crisis that nearly swept off his favoured son, Amaechi and the handling of the Chibok girls saga. His opinions are highly sort in Nigeria and beyond and many believe that his disdain for the PDP helped swayed south-west( epecially the young and intellectuals) votes against President GEJ. 2. Enerst Shonekan Former head of the Interim Government of Nigeria in 1993. He is believed to be a supporter of incumbent President GEJ and has never missed any high government function since Jonathan became President. 3. Mike Adenuga Chairman of telecommunication outfit Globacom and one of Nigeria's richest and out-of-public private citizens. He is a friend of the GEJ government and as such was appointed as Co-Chairman by Jonathan in 2012 to head the flood committee. 4. South-south PDP Governors They are governors Liyel Imoke( Cross River), Godswill Akpabio( Akwa Ibom), Seriake Dickson( Bayelsa state), Emmanuel Uduaghan( Delta state) and govenor-elect Nyesom Wike( Rivers state - considered to be a nightmare to incumbent governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the APC). They are major financiers and gave Jonathan a bloc-vote during the 2011 and 2015 presidential elections. Rivers state gave GEJ over 1.4million votes to emerge highest from the region. 5. South-east PDP Governors Abia - TA Orji, Ebonyi - M Elechi, Enugu - S Chime; they tried to replicate the 2011 magic but I guess something happened along the line. Nonetheless, GEJ won convincingly in the zone but could not win nationally in 2015 as was in 2011. The highest GEJ secured from this zone was 500,000+ in Enugu state. 6. Alex Ekwueme Former Nigerian vice president under Shehu Shagari and a prominent member of those who formed the PDP in 1998. He complained sometime ago of being maginalized in the mani-stream PDP by the Jonathan administration before GEJ visited his state for the PDP presidential campaign. 7. Shehu Shagari With a waning strength of 80yrs+, former president shagari is an ardent supporter of the PDP from the then OBJ days to Yar'Adua. He benefited to the extent of making his son a minister and then a Deputy Governor in 2007-2015. President Jonathan is believed to have so much respect for this elderly elder statesman and recent joined former leaders to cut his birthday cake in Sokoto. 8. Ibrahim Babangida Nicknamed the 'Nigerian Maradona.' He ousted the President-elect, GMB and took over power in 1985 and later went on to annul the 1993 presidential election won by late MKO Abiola. Many believe that Buhari still begrudges IBB for his ouster and not allowing him to bury his late mum. He once sort for the PDP ticket in 2011 with JEG along side Atiku and former NSA and current defence minister, Aliyu Gusau. He is still a PDP card-carrying member and preferred GEJ to GMB in the 2015 elections. 10. Innocent Chukwuma Anambra born entrepreneur cum billionaire is fine protagonist of the Jonathan administration. He is a major beneficiary of the current President's auto policy on home-made vehicles and manufacturing in Nigeria. Innocent is the first indegineous vehicle manufacturing businessman in the country. He manufactures SUVs, pick-up trucks as well as patrol vans for the Nigerian police force and the federal road safety corps. His company was said to have donate about 15 SUVs to the 2015 PDP presidential campaign. 11. South-west Obas These monarchs are seen as very powerful in the region and they were seen to be more amenable to the Jonathan candidature than Buhari's and more than one occasion openly supported GEJ for the 2015 elections. GEJ was said to have held meeting with all the power-broking monarchs in the region before the elections. 12. Northern states PDP governors These are the governors of Kaduna, Kebbi, Jigawa, Bauchi, Niger, Adamawa, Katsina, Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Kogi and Gombe states. Of all these governors none was able to win even a LGA for the PDP save for Taraba, Plateau, Kaduna, Adamawa despite all the Billions given them during the presidential elections. Why they have refused to congratulate the President-Elect on his victory at the 2015 polls is yet unknown but I believe that will be left for historian, researchers and scholars to unravel. A Public Relations and Media practitioner based in Lagos, Nigeria, Mr Olusegun Sunday Fayose (pictured above) has dissociated himself from an online story first published in the Nation Newspapers of Monday 23rd March, 2015,( READ ORIGINAL STORY HERE: www.thenationonlineng.net/new/fayose-embarrassing-our-family-says-brother/) in which his picture was used to illustrate a damning interview purportedly granted the newspaper by one Olusegun Fayose, identified in the report as the elder brother of His Excellency, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state. In a statement I just received from his team, Mr Fayose, lead consultant/MD of Hexagon Media and former head of corporate communication/PR manager of MultiChoice Nigeria, clarified that he never granted any interview to the newspaper or any other news medium within or outside the country. He also averred that he is not related to the Governor of Ekiti State, a fact which he said is not lost on any diligent media practitioner in the country and wondered how any responsible journalist could publish his picture as that of the elder Brother of the Governor especially with the benefit of several online search engines at the disposal of media practitioners. Mr Fayose further explained that the similarity in his surname and that of the Governor is a mere coincidence and wonders why two reporters (Bisi Oladele and Jeremiah Oke) who claimed that they conducted the interview in Ibadan, Oyo state with Governor Ayo Fayose’s elder brother, preferred to shop for the online picture of an innocent bystander to illustrate such a sensitive story at this critical period in the electoral process, instead of using the actual picture of the interviewee. ‘As a media practitioner, I find this development rather shocking because the journalists were in a position to take live pictures of the interviewee at the venue of the interview. Should they have failed in doing this, they could have returned to correct the oversight or politely ask for a selfie which could be forwarded to them. There is also the option of using professional networking sites to access the details or picture(s) of their subject. So, I find it strange and curious that they (the reporters) could not remember the face of a subject they purportedly interviewed in less than 24 hours, he said.’ The statement called on leading blogs to retract the story or risk legal actions if corrective measures are not implemented within the next 24 hours. . www.lailasblog.com/2015/03/gov-fayoses-alleged-elder-brother.html?m=1

aresa:Try and be objective and do some research. This is not the first time Nigeria will be closing its borders for election. Or has GHANA never closed theirs for election. DO NOT ABUSE WITHOUT PROPER RESEARCH AND COMPARING NOTES |
bigtt76:If you say don't close SEA, I will agree with you but LAND, no, I disagree with you. In fact left for me LAND borders should be closed five days to election owing to the fact that millions of illegal Nigeriens and Chadians entered and registered to vote in Nigeria. So lock them out I say and let them go and follow through the sea and see whether they won't drown trying to enter Nigeria. |
BTW just a minute few travel by sea so why close it |
Barely 24 hours after shutting all borders for the 2015 elections, the Federal Government on Thursday reversed the order by reopening sea borders. The reversal was announced by the Interior Minister, Abba Moro, at the commissioning of Koto-Karfe Prison. The minister said that the Federal government had received advice that closing the sea borders would adversely affect the nation’s economy. He however, assured that officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service had been directed to effectively monitor movements in and out of the country’s sea borders before, during and after the election. It will be recalled that the government had in a statement on Wednesday directed that all Nigeria’s land and sea borders be closed from 12.00 mid night Wednesday 25th March, 2015 to 12.00 mid night of Saturday 28th March, 2015. . www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/fg-makes-u-turn-reopens-sea-borders/ |
Nigeria has announced the closure of all land and sea borders ahead of Saturday’s presidential elections, the Interior Ministry announced Wednesday. All borders will effectively be closed from midnight March 25, to midnight Saturday, March 28, the ministry said in a statement. The release, signed by the permanent secretary, Abubakar Magaji, said the borders would be closed “to allow for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national elections”. It also said the Nigeria Immigration Service has been directed to ensure that non-Nigerians do not participate in any part of the election process. . www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/179084-breaking-nigerian-shuts-all-borders-ahead-of-election.html |

All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organization, APCPCO has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of stealing N1trn from the public coffers to fund his election campaigns. Addressing a press conference in Abuja, the organization said that as a president who has spent 6 years in office, his legacies should have been speaking for him and not going about sharing money. APCPCO asked Nigerians to think twice before casting their votes on Saturday. . www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/jonathan-spends-n1trn-on-election-campaign/ |
In as much as I don't believe the US is working as a friend with Nigeria, I like the part of his statement: "You’ve worked hard to improve the lives of your families and to build the largest economy in Africa. Now you have a historic opportunity to help write the next chapter of Nigeria’s progress..." |
This is for those of us that could not watch the video but at least we can also read. ..................................................................................... In a video posted on Youtube today by US Embassy Nigeria, US president Barack Obama sent a message to Nigerians asking them to stand up against violence and express their views peacefully during the upcoming election. Transcribed version of what he said in the video below... Hello. Today, I want to speak directly to you—the people of Nigeria. Nigeria is a great nation and you can be proud of the progress you’ve made. Together, you won your independence, emerged from military rule, and strengthened democratic institutions. You’ve strived to overcome division and to turn Nigeria’s diversity into a source of strength. You’ve worked hard to improve the lives of your families and to build the largest economy in Africa. Now you have a historic opportunity to help write the next chapter of Nigeria’s progress—by voting in the upcoming elections. For elections to be credible, they must be free, fair and peaceful. All Nigerians must be able to cast their votes without intimidation or fear. So I call on all leaders and candidates to make it clear to their supporters that violence has no place in democratic elections—and that they will not incite, support or engage in any kind of violence—before, during, or after the votes are counted. I call on all Nigerians to peacefully express your views and to reject the voices of those who call for violence. And when elections are free and fair, it is the responsibility of all citizens to help keep the peace, no matter who wins. Successful elections and democratic progress will help Nigeria meet the urgent challenges you face today. Boko Haram—a brutal terrorist group that kills innocent men, women and children—must be stopped. Hundreds of kidnapped children deserve to be returned to their families. Nigerians who have been forced to flee deserve to return to their homes. Boko Haram wants to destroy Nigeria and all that you have worked to build. By casting your ballot, you can help secure your nation’s progress. I’m told that there is a saying in your country: “to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done.” Today, I urge all Nigerians—from all religions, all ethnic groups, and all regions—to come together and keep Nigeria one. And in this task of advancing the security, prosperity, and human rights of all Nigerians, you will continue to have a friend and partner in the United States of America. . www.lindaikeji..com/2015/03/pres-obama-sends-message-to-nigerians.html |
By this time next week we should be awaiting election result declaration |
