Coolcash1: I have never been a purveyor of this policy ab-initio..The pains are obviously more than the touted gains...Devaluation destabilizes a country's economy than stabilizing it..There is need to diagnose our own problem; is it liquidity or pricing? To me, its liquidity and not the later so devaluatn is not the solution. I will suggest the solution is for government to stimulate the economy by increasing spending, borrow more money, lower interest rate and puruse import-substitution. However, there is need to exercise caution when borrowing as this must be external than internal to avoid crowding-out effect.
My take. More contribution is welcome from other erudite members of this forum the solution is a floating exchange rate system |

fxuser: sub N200 ! ! lol nothing is impossible. some predicted oil would have dropped to $10 by now but it is what it is . . Mr Market is at $40 even after Doha buhaha d current fx policy will continue to hamper growth and investment but eventually market will surely have its way. Remember the Abacha era, Govt also kept a similar policy, official rate or peg was N20/$ and after much pressure (like we are seeing now) govt introduced a Dual Fx system by creating d autonomous market where bank rate was trading around N85/$ . (Black market was much higher than bank rate). You can almost see the same thing happening all over again. |

Aks: I do hope your complaint was promptly sorted out. Pls share if u think there is any info that can guide us
My dividend is still outstanding, i did a mail to them online and d response came in few mins ago where i was told there is no record of my e-dividend mandate with them. I have since scanned the acknowledged copy received by their office to them while i await further response. Apparently they have not processed my previous submitted bank confirmation from last year. They said ''no signature mandate uploaded on CSCS platform'' A quick trip to the brokers to get one signed (signed some extras and kept with broker). Estimated processing time is 2 weeks. So will visit Veritas in 2 weeks. Hopefully CSCS signature upload would have been done so registrars can process the bank confirmation and sort out dividend . |

Nigeria could be kicked out of the MSCI Frontier Markets Index http://www.cnbcafrica.com/news/financial/2016/04/08/nigeria-msci-frontier-markets-index/Points - $480mn of MSCI benchmarked money in Nigeria - a potential of $480mn to be sold, but given the illiquidity of naira foreign exchange markets, it is unlikely that this amount could be sold. - Equity investors already have at least $0.5bn less in Nigeria than they "should" have if they were exactly tracking the index (and a billion less than the $1.5bn they might have if they were optimistic and "overweight" Nigeria). Now the remaining $0.5bn is under threat too. interesting times |

spinoff: www.businessinsider.com/things-everyone-should-know-about-investing-and-
A year ago I started writing what I hoped would be a book called500 Things you Need to know About Investing. I wanted to outline my favorite quotes, stats, and lessons about investing. I failed. I quickly realized the idea was long on ambition, short on planning. But I made it to 122, and figured it would be better in article form. Here it is. 1. Saying "I'll be greedy when others are fearful" is easier than actually doing it. 2. When most people say they want to be a millionaire, what they really mean is "I want to spend $1 million," which is literally the opposite of being a millionaire. 3."Some stuff happened" should replace 99% of references to "it's a perfect storm." 4.Daniel Kahneman's bookThinking Fast and Slowbegins, "The premise of this book is that it is easier to recognize other people's mistakes than your own." This should be every market commentator's motto. 5. Blogger Jesse Livermore writes, "My main life lesson from investing: self-interest is the most powerful force on earth, and can get people to embrace and defend almost anything." 6.As Erik Falkenstein says: "In expert tennis, 80% of the points are won, while in amateur tennis, 80% are lost. The same is true for wrestling, chess, and investing: Beginners should focus on avoiding mistakes, experts on making great moves." 7.There is a difference between, "He predicted the crash of 2008," and "He predicted crashes, one of which happened to occur in 2008." It's important to know the difference when praising investors. 8. Investor Dean Williams once wrote, "Confidence in a forecast rises with the amount of information that goes into it. But the accuracy of the forecast stays the same." 9.Wealth is relative. As comedian Chris Rock said, "If Bill Gates woke up with Oprah's money he'd jump out the window." 10.Only 7% of Americans know stocks rose 32% last year, according to Gallup. One-third believe the market either fell or stayed the same. Everyone is aware when markets fall; bull markets can go unnoticed. 11.Dean Williams once noted that "Expertise is great, but it has a bad side effect: It tends to create the inability to accept new ideas." Some of the world's best investors have no formal backgrounds in finance -- which helps them tremendously. 12.TheFinancial Timeswrote, "In 2008 the three most admired personalities in sport were probably Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong and Oscar Pistorius." The same falls from grace happen in investing. Chose your role models carefully. 13.Investor Ralph Wagoner once explained how markets work, recalled by Bill Bernstein: "He likens the market to an excitable dog on a very long leash in New York City, darting randomly in every direction. The dog's owner is walking from Columbus Circle, through Central Park, to the Metropolitan Museum. At any one moment, there is no predicting which way the pooch will lurch. But in the long run, you know he's heading northeast at an average speed of three miles per hour. What is astonishing is that almost all of the market players, big and small, seem to have their eye on the dog, and not the owner." 14.Investor Nick Murray once said, "Timing the market is a fool's game, whereas time in the market is your greatest natural advantage." Remember this the next time you're compelled to cash out. 15.Bill Seidman once said, "You never know what the American public is going to do, but you know that they will do it all at once." Change is as rapid as it is unpredictable. 16.Napoleon's definition of a military genius was, "the man who can do the average thing when all those around him are going crazy." Same goes in investing. 17.Blogger Jesse Livermore writes,"Most people, whether bull or bear, when they are right, are right for the wrong reason, in my opinion." 18. Investors anchor to the idea that a fair price for a stock must be more than they paid for it. It's one of the most common, and dangerous, biases that exists. "People do not get what they want or what they expect from the markets; they get what they deserve," writes Bill Bonner 19.Jason Zweig writes, "The advice that sounds the best in the short run is always the most dangerous in the long run." 20. Billionaire investor Ray Dalio once said, "The more you think you know, the more closed-minded you'll be." Repeat this line to yourself the next time you're certain of something. 21.During recessions, elections, and Federal Reserve policy meetings, people become unshakably certain about things they know very little about. 22. "Buy and hold only works if you do both when markets crash. It's much easier to both buy and hold when markets are rising," says Ben Carlson. 23.Several studies have shownthat people prefer a pundit who is confident to one who is accurate. Pundits are happy to oblige. 24.According to J.P. Morgan, 40% of stocks have suffered "catastrophic losses" since 1980, meaning they fell at least 70% and never recovered. Brilliant wisdom. |

PETERiCHY: https://www.nairaland.com/3033897/power-fx-fuel-shortages-cripple
Some 80,000 manufacturing jobs are set to disappear in Nigeria, mostly as a result of the President’s FX policies, according to the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
“Across manufacturing people are beginning to shut down. It is happening across the sector” said Babatunde Odunayo, a former CEO of Nigerian conglomerate Honeywell Group.
“Family owned businesses are shutting down,” Odunayo said.
President Buhari’s policy of pegging the naira at N199 per dollar has exacerbated inflation and unemployment as traders and retailers base prices on the black market rate hovering near N320/$1.
https://www.nairaland.com/3033886/forex-shortage-hits-airlines-575m
Experts say this development may result in fewer investments and loss of jobs in the countrys aviation sector, as many airlines may be faced with the option of laying-off staff.
The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) said last month, that about 2,000 Nigerian aviation workers may be sacked by foreign airlines.
This is because airlines are unable to transfer their earnings to their respective home countries to meet operational costs, in accordance with international aviation industry rules. *** the peg will have to give way , its a matter of time |

ExLaidback: Hello House,
I don't how many people use Investment-One, but I do and recently I've begun to notice some unacceptable lapses in their service delivery. So I don't know if there's anyone else experiencing this or it's just me.
Like a little over a week ago I placed an order through mail and it went unacknowledged and unexecuted. I was upset.
Today again, I just observed the same thing. So perhaps there's anyone with similar experience, before I know which step person go take next. They an be sloppy at times but still fair. You can however try their EasyTrade On-line platform and cut out human interaction. It works very well but you have to tell your account officer to cancel the pending orders if you don't the trades to go live on the following day |
