FCT - The Comptroller of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command, Daniel Odaro, has denied the purported riot which was said to have broken out today, Monday morning, at the Kuje Medium Prisons, Lagos.

Odaro, who spoke exclusively speak with Daily Trust on phone, said what happened was just a quarrel between the inmates and the officers who are working there. He added that no life was lost, nor injury incurred by any person, maintaining that normalcy has been returned to the prison.

Irked by the latest news circulating all over the places, which alleges division inside the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, the group has declared a total war against Vanguard Newspaper.

The group is accusing Vanguard Newspaper of helping Buhari and APC-led federal government to propagate against IPOB.
It says Vanguard is the only newspaper in Nigeria that keeps reporting lies of splinter group TRIPOB and RE-IPOB from the main IPOB.

The Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof Ben Nwabueze, has described as provocative, the statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari against Niger Delta militants.

Mr President recently revealed the readiness of the Federal might to crush Niger Delta militants the same way Boko Haram terrorist group are been crushed, if the militants fell to embrace peace.

Reacting to the statement, Prof Nwabueze said Buhari's word is uncalled for, especially at this moment that most of the militant groups are ready to embrace dialogue. Former Super Eagle's captain and ex Everton defender, Joseph Yobo, has disclosed that his foundation would ensure the release of as many prisoners as possible who are awaiting trial at Ikoyi prisons Lagos.

Disclosing this at the inauguration of Ikoyi Prisons Football Academy in Lagos, Yobo said that it's important to give hope and life to those inmates.

“I have never been to the prisons in my life, but on getting to Ikoyi prisons, I realised the importance to give hope and life to someone".

Irked by the killings and maiming that was recently perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen in Enugu State, Gov Willie Obiano of Anambra State has issued a strong warning to herdsmen in the state.

Speaking in a press conference to mark the 25 anniversary of the creation of state, at Council Chambers of Government House, Awka, Obiano said he foresaw tomorrow, which was why his administration constituted committee to check cattle menace in the state.

Chief Nduka, while reacting to the recent invasion of herdsmen and inability of security to protect lives, describe the killings as inhuman.

He said: “We regard every Hausa man as our brother and friend but these killings must stop. When Fulani herdsmen killed the people of Nimbo, they said they would get to the root of the matter and that it was going to be the last. How can a human being be killed by his or her neighbour for beating a gong to scare away animals?

The man who named his dog 'Buhari' and was remanded in Ibara Prison in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has regained freedom after four days.

Mr Joachin Chinakwe, a trader in Ogun State and a native of Delta State was arraigned on Monday before Ota Magistrate Court, Ogun State for conduct likely to cause breach of peace. He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties, who must be regular tax payers in the state; but was remanded in prison custody since he could not perfect the bail conditions.

A new faction of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, has emerged with the name Reformed Indigenous People Of Biafra (RE-IPOB).

Just yesterday an IPOB splinter group, The Rebranded Indigenous People Of Biafra, TRIPOB, emerged in Aba, threatening to burn Biafra flag and recite Nigeria pledge in Abuja in coming days.

The new group, RE-IPOB, which emerged today, August 25, in Aba, Abia State, said that both IPOB and TRIPOB have no right to speak for Biafra.

It was like a movie in Enugu yesterday as heavily armed robbers storm Bisalla road, by Ronan Stores, shooting sporadically into the air which got people scampering for safety.

The armed men were however overpowered by the joint security forces, who quickly intervaned and got them surrendered and arrested.

Following a riot which erupted at Federal Polytechnic Gboko, Benue State, on Wednesday, the school has been directed to shut down indefinitely.

The riot which was mobilised by the Higher National Diploma II (HND II), claimed two lives, while two policemen were said to be critically injured.

Properties worth millions which claimed to have being destroyed includes some school structures, school bakery, poultry chicken farm and so on. Some cows at the ranch were also killed.

According to a student who specifically spoke to Thegistbaze on condition of anonymity, "the decision of the school management that students must write exams with exam permit card, led to the protest. Most of the final year students missed their exams even though they have their school fees receipt. They were denied access to the examination hall".

The militant group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), has selected a Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka as one of the personnel for the proposed dialogue with the Federal Government.

The spokesman for the dialogue group, Mr Ballantyne Agiri, on Tuesday, made this known to the New Telegraph.

He said the leadership of the militant group, after months of searching for credible persons with impeccable characters, chose to go with Soyinka because of his detribalized and credible personality.

The President of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, has called for peaceful co-existence among Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has debunk the purported arrest of its members by the Nigerian security forces.

The group's spokesperson, Brig.Gen Moduch Agbinibo, in a statement said that the arrested persons, paraded by the Nigerian Navy Delta, yesterday, are military's 'sleeper agents' who failed to deliver on intelligent activities of the NDA.

The Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, NNS have arrested two suspected members of the Niger Delta Avengers.

The two suspects who were believed to be behind series of attack on oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta region were arrested in Sapele area of the State.

The suspects, identified as Stanley Toghan and Felix Miyenminiye, were paraded today, Saturday, by the Nigerian Navy at the Warri Naval Base.
