Career / 6 Ways To Make Money Online With Advertising Without Google Adsense by gabonsky: 11:20pm On Feb 18, 2017
There are many ways to make money blogging. Here are some of the ways to make money with advertising on your blog.

Pay per click advertising

Sell your own advertising on your blog
Sell text links on your blog
CPM ad networks
Pop-ups
Paid reviews

Some facts on blogs that make money
Blogging has moved from the tech geeks domain to “new media”. It is now cool and can be very lucrative. Before we dive in here are some interesting facts about some blogs that make serious money.

Ways to Make Money Advertising on your blog

1. Pay per click advertising
Pay-Per-Click ads, also kn
own as Cost Per Click or CPC, is one of the most common models of internet advertising. It simply means an advertiser will pay you once someone clicks on their ad.

Infolinks
Infolinks is one of the best ways to implement in-text advertising on your blog. It offers publishers a 70% revenue share and follows a PPC (pay-per-click) model. In-text ads are double-underlined words on a page that show up as ads when clicked.

Infolinks also offers other options such as insearch ads, intag ads and inframe ads. They pay you via Paypal, Wire Transfer, ACH, Payoneer, eCheck or Western Union once you reach the initial limit of $50 for Paypal or eCheck or $100 for Wire Transfer and WU, so it depends on the mode of payment you’ve chosen.

Media.net

Media.net is another big alternative to Adsense and is powered by the Yahoo Bing Network. The ads featured are contextual focusing on relevant keywords and that takes some time before they are optimized for your site. As you keep using this network, soon the algorithm will determine the best keywords for your audience based on the clicks.

As opposed to Adsense, Media.net assigns a dedicated Account rep who can also suggest you ways to making more revenues from your ads. The money transfer options are wire transfer or Paypal. Minimum threshold for payouts is $100.

Chitika
Chitika is another alternative that only serves contextual ads and offers a CPC program. You can customize your ads and use them along with, if not instead of, Google Adsense with no problems.

The best thing? They have a small minimum threshold of $10 if getting paid via Paypal. If you’re opting to get paid via check, the threshold is $50.

2. Sell ads on your blog
If you’re already getting a decent traffic, you may want to take things in your control and sell direct ads on your website. All you need is an “Advertise with us” page on your blog listing out the different formats of ads available and how much it costs per month. Make sure to mention your Alexa rank, Google PageRank, and other traffic stats for buyers to know.

But if you want to save yourself the hassle of selling, you can use the following third-party alternatives to sell ads on your blog:

BuySellAds

BuySellAds is an online ad-marketplace where you can list your ads for others to buy. They don’t accept low traffic blogs so if you’re just starting out, you may want to wait for at least a few months before you start generating good traffic.

BuySellAds gives 75% of the total earnings to its publishers, which is pretty decent. There is no minimum threshold for payouts and you can remove money two times every month to your Paypal.

BlogAds
10 Lip-Smacking Google Adsense Alternatives to Make Money Blogging 5

BlogAds works in a similar manner as BuySellAds. They keep 30% of all ad sales as their commission. If you refer new users, you can earn a cool 15% of the earnings also.

If you’re receiving money via Paypal, you need to have minimum funds of $75 and for Check or Wire Transfer, it’s $750.

3. Sell text links on your blog
If you get good organic traffic on your blog, you can try text-link ads where you link a piece of text on your site to another page on a different site.

Before you try these, make sure you use the Nofollow tag to combat any possible Google penalty.

LinkWorth

LinkWorth is a popular text-link network where you’ll also find options to use rotating text ads, paid reviews etc.

Minimum threshold for payouts is $25 if you’re using Paypal, and $100 for Check, Wire Transfer and EFT.

4. “Cost per Click” ad networks
So far we’ve been looking at mostly CPC (Cost Per Click) model for ads. CPC means the advertiser pays you when someone clicks through their ads. An alternative to this is CPM (Cost per Thousand) where you are paid for every 1,000 ad impressions served.

With CPC, your income can vary hugely but that isn’t the case with CPM. If your CPM network sets your CPM at, let’s say, $5 per 100,000 impressions then you will make $500 in total when that number is reached.

PulsePoint

PulsePoint is a popular CPM network where you can set your own CPM prices. In order to be accepted in their network your site needs to have good amount of original content. They mostly sell to a US-based traffic. When setting the price, set a higher price than you make on your backup (example Adsense). If they can’t beat that price, your backup is displayed.

You receive your earnings every 45 days via EFT, Paypal or check.

5. Pop-ups
Granted, many advertisers and bloggers dislike popup ads but it’s still an option. You can display these ads as pop-ups or pop-unders

PopAds

PopAds offers pop-under ads and works quite well with an English-speaking traffic. You set your own price and the popunder frequency for each visitor.

You can get paid via AlertPay, Paypal, and Wire Transfer, and you can withdraw payments any time. They also run a referral program at 10% of the earnings.

6. Paid reviews
You can make some good money by publishing reviews on various products and services that you trust. The best thing about this arrangement is you command a price per review. I’ve seen websites asking anywhere from $150 to $500 for reviews. Of course it depends on your rank and incoming traffic as well as your niche.

SponsoredReviews

SponsoredReviews allows advertisers to build backlinks and bloggers to make money. It connects bloggers with Search Engine Optimizers, Marketers and Advertisers who want to build traffic.

You can offer writing paid posts on your blog to their network of hundreds of advertisers. Set your own price per piece. And you’re not expected to write positive reviews only – honest and in-depth posts are welcome.

Payments are made bi-weekly via Paypal.

PayU2Blog
10 Lip-Smacking Google Adsense Alternatives to Make Money Blogging 10

PayU2Blog is another alternative for getting paid to write blog posts on your site. Not all blogs are taken in, so you may want to sign up and wait before you know.

PayU2Blog works a little differently in that they assign you a blog post topic in areas such as real estate, health, retail, etc. You don’t have to write glorious reviews or endorse anything if you don’t believe in a product or service.Personal experience, honest opinions are encouraged.

You get paid via Paypal every two weeks.

Over to you
There you go. Some of these are ad networks while others are sponsored posts and reviews that don’t use ads at all.

There are still other ways to make money, such as using affiliate networks such as Amazon Associates, so your options are wide open.

The secret is to continuously “diversify” your income streams. And the best part? Most of these options can still be used along with Google Adsense. Which ones are your favorites?

Politics / ‘we Will Field Robert Mugabe’s Corpse For Election’, Says Wife by gabonsky: 9:56am On Feb 18, 2017
‘We will field Robert Mugabe’s corpse for election’, says wife

The wife of 92-year-old Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe said Friday that he would be the voters’ choice even after he dies, as she addressed supporters from the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Grace Mugabe, who is seen as a possible successor to her ailing husband, ratcheted up her colourful rhetoric ahead of the general election due next year.

“One day when God decides that Mugabe dies, we will have his corpse appear as a candidate on the ballot paper,” Grace Mugabe told a party rally in Buhera, southeast of the capital Harare.

“You will see people voting for Mugabe as a corpse. I am seriously telling you — just to show people how people love their president.”
President Mugabe has vowed to stand again in the election, but Grace could run if he dies before the vote.

Grace Mugabe, who was appointed leader of ZANU-PF’s women’s wing in a surprise move two years ago, is well known for her fiery speeches and verbal attacks on her husband’s opponents. In 2015, she led a campaign which led to the ousting of deputy president Joice Mujuru, accusing Mujuru of fanning factionalism, plotting to topple Mugabe and corruption and bribery.

President Mugabe, the world’s oldest national leader, turns 93 on Tuesday, with a celebration party planned for next Saturday. Grace has previously pledged to push Mugabe in his wheelchair to election rallies if needed.

Mugabe, who has been in power since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, has avoided naming a successor and his party is divided between factions jostling to succeed him.

Grace bemoaned the in-fighting, telling those seeking to succeed her husband: “Let’s not fool each other, let’s wait for God’s time.”

Trump heads to Florida to reconnect with his base
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – FEBRUARY 17: U.S. President Donald Trump addresses a crowd during the debut event for the Dreamliner 787-10 at Boeing’s South Carolina facilities on February 17, 2017 in North Charleston, South Carolina.

President Donald Trump will bask in the adulation of supporters on Saturday as he holds a campaign-style rally in Florida, reconnecting with his base outside Washington after a stormy first month in office.

“Looking forward to the Florida rally tomorrow. Big crowd expected!” the Republican leader tweeted Friday evening.

Following a grievance-filled press conference that raised questions about his temperament, the real estate mogul is getting back to basics and back on script.

On Friday, he visited a Boeing plant in South Carolina and pitched himself as a champion of US jobs and industry.

“As your president, I’m going to do everything I can to unleash the power of the American spirit and to put our great people back to work,” Trump said.

“This is our mantra, ‘buy American and hire American.’ We want products made in America, made by American hands,” he said, pledging to wean the country off imports.

On the campaign trail, Trump tapped a rich seam of unease among American workers.

Although the unemployment rate is at a low five percent and wages are rising steadily, a triple whammy of deindustrialization, globalization and automation has battered the US heartland.

Trump repeatedly touted his business acumen and promised to transfer boardroom smarts to the Oval Office in order to bring back jobs.

But poor management and scandal have plagued his first month in office.

In four tumultuous weeks, Trump has seen his national security advisor ousted, a cabinet nominee withdraw, a centerpiece immigration policy fail in the courts and a tidal wave of damaging leaks.

The perception of a White House in disarray was further fueled as Trump’s pick to replace national security advisor Michael Flynn turned down the job, leaving a glaring hole in the National Security Council.

Trump said Friday he was considering new candidates.

The president was spending his third consecutive weekend at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, and on Saturday he heads north to Melbourne, near Orlando, for a rally at 5 pm (2200 GMT).

The event will likely be reminiscent of his campaign trail appearances, with his cheering supporters providing a boost to Trump after he was frozen out by significant portions of the Washington establishment.

Trump was already on the offensive Friday evening. A day after a rambling press conference in which he blamed journalists for his administration’s troubles, Trump tweeted that “FAKE NEWS media” was the “enemy of the American People,” naming several prominent outlets.

– Back to business –
The commander-in-chief appeared to be in his element at Boeing, praising the roll-out of the 787-10, touring the cockpit and joking with CEO Dennis Muilenburg about negotiations for an order of F-18 Super Hornets.

“We are looking seriously at a big order, and we will see how that — you know, the problem is that Dennis is a very, very tough negotiator. But I think we may get there,” he said.

The US manufacturer employs some 7,500 people in South Carolina, where it has invested more than $2 billion since beginning operations in the southeastern state in 2009.

Trump’s prescription to drain the pockets of economic malaise that dot the country has been to rip up “bad trade deals” and impose tougher tariffs on imports.

“It has to be much easier to manufacture in our country and much harder to leave. I don’t want companies leaving our country. Making their product, selling it back, no tax, no nothing, firing everybody in our country,” he said.

That may be a winning approach politically, but few economists believe it would be good for Americans’ pocket books.

Richard Baldwin, a professor of international economics at the Graduate Institute, Geneva recently accused Trump’s team of pursuing “20th-century solutions for America’s 21st-century industrial problems.”

“In 2017, US workers are not competing with low-wage foreign labor, capital, and technology, as they did in the 1970s. Rather, they are competing with a nearly unbeatable combination of low-wage foreign labor and US knowhow,” he said.

Ironically, the Boeing Dreamliner may be a case in point.

From nose to tail fin, many of the Boeing’s components are made around the world: Wing tips in South Korea, the landing gear in England.

“If the Trump administration imposes tariffs, it will turn the US into a high-cost island for industrial inputs,” said Baldwin.

“Firms might be induced to move some production back to the US, if it is strictly aimed at US consumers. But they will be equally encouraged to offshore production that is aimed at export markets.”

The tea is manufactured either by CTC (crush, tear, curl) process or orthodox. The CTC process is used for the processing low grades like fannings and dust sometimes the broken leaves. Usually, tea bags are made using this process. The orthodox process is can be made by using machines or by hand. It used for producing high-quality black teas.

Health / Want To Save Your DNA? Drink Coffee by gabonsky: 5:11pm On Feb 13, 2017
Coffee is one of the favorite beverages of many people worldwide. It not only taste and smell great, but it also provide that much needed energy boost. Recent studies also show that coffee actually has a number of health benefits, including fighting the following diseases:

Heart disease
Type 2 diabetes
Skin cancer
Parkinson’s disease

As more studies are performed about coffee, scientists recently discovered that regular consumption of the beverage can help strengthen your DNA. In the research, it was revealed that beverages with active compounds, including coffee, help in stopping the DNA (particularly those that are found in white blood cells) from freely breaking apart.

The study, which was published in the European Journal of Nutrition, was actually small and the subjects were only made up of men. However, this does not mean that the findings were to be neglected. In truth, there are other studies that proved just how drinking coffee regularly can reduce damage in the cells as mentioned. This process is known as oxidative damage, which is linked to DNA destruction.

What’s So Special About Coffee?
Aside from the rich aroma and taste, coffee has grabbed a lot of people’s attention, even the experts because of its bioactive compounds. These compounds can be found in the green beans as well as during the roasting process. Known as chlorogenic acids, these come with characteristics that help coffee drinkers become much healthier. The acids have potent antioxidants as well as properties that fight against inflammation.

One notable type of acid found in coffee is the caffeoylquinic acid or CQA, which has the ability to increase the levels of antioxidants in the cells. The same acid can also remove harmful molecules, known as reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS has been in the eye of many scientists because it is one of the components that are believed to kill the response of the immune cells whenever there is microbial invasion. The reactive oxygen species are actually a part of the body and are produced during metabolic processes. They are also important, but when there is too much in the body, they can destroy proteins found in cells and can therefore break the DNA.

More about Coffee and DNA
Regularly drinking coffee could decrease damage caused by oxidative stress to the white blood cells. These particular cells are a part of the immune system, which help in protecting you against infection and disease.

Continuously consuming coffee and other caffeinated drinks can lead to a lowered chance of DNA breakage. According to researchers, this discovery can aid humans, especially when it comes to their health.

How can one apply

You can probably teach english and additional mathematic as well depending on your skills in countries like China, Malaysia, Singapore, HongKong, Chile, Hungary, Czech Republic etc.

This is probably the most profitable work/travel opportunity out there. If you’re a native speaker, you can just take a short online course or even find countries which won’t require any certificate.

Firstly, look for a short course online and then applied to their high college or elementary school in those countries mentioned above.

This is the most easiest ways to travel out of the country.

Politics / At Thanksgiving Service, Ibori Vows To Stand Always With Deltans by gabonsky: 4:14am On Feb 13, 2017
Committee denies state’s sponsorship of event.

Former Governor James Onanefe Ibori of Delta State has vowed to stand always with the people, saying their support during his incarceration in United Kingdom was heart-warming.

During a thanksgiving service yesterday at the First Baptist Church, Oghara-Efe, Ibori who spoke mostly in Urhobo language, thanked the people for their immense affection during his trying times.

He said his only sin was that he chose to stand with the people and development.

The recently released erstwhile governor lamented that the period of his incarceration had adversely affected his people, as according to him, he would have attracted a lot of things to them in terms of development.

His words: “What was most painful to me was the pains and suffering my people were going through. It has nothing to do with me as a person because for some reasons, I drew my strength from God.”

“Somehow, I knew God will stand by me. I know that one day, I will return home. I am indeed happy to be in your midst. Persons that I have missed so much are those of you that have suffered the pains of my absence.”

Also speaking at the well-attended event, his bosom friend and one-time chaplain of Government House Chapel, Asaba, Bishop God-do-well Avwomaka, said: “No matter how a trap catches a lion, he must be set free to return home.” He described the former governor as a lover of all, saying the affection shown him was because he touched the lives of many when he held sway.

However, the Publicity Secretary of the Ibori’s Freedom Thanksgiving Committee, Chief Henry Ofa, said the report that the event was sponsored by the state government at a cost of N350 million was a deliberate attempt to malign the returnee erstwhile state chief executive and drag Governor Ifeanyi Okowa into the murky water of corruption

A nature-al beauty! Meet the 22-year-old law student who travels to the world's most exotic locations to take photos with incredible sea creatures

An Australian law student has become a social media hit after posting about her travels across the world, including swimming with whales, sharks and even pigs.

Sarah Kohan, from Sydney, has spent the past few years travelling on her school breaks to some of the globe's most exotic locations like the Cook Islands, Bora Bora, Hawaii, The Bahamas, Europe and South America.

The 22-year-old student, who has completed exchange courses at Harvard University and Columbia University, has documented her adventures in incredible photos on her Instagram, which has skyrocketed to 245,000 followers within a few months.

The avid freediver is not only pictured frolicking through rainforests or on sandy beaches surrounded by turquoise water, but she is also seen swimming with a group of sharks, diving beside humpback whales, feeding iguanas and cuddling pigs.

The student, who will graduate from Notre Dame in June before hopefully interning with the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands, told Daily Mail Australia her favourite trips have been when she encountered wildlife.

'When I'm underwater and swimming with a whale, it seems like nothing else matters - seeing an animal in their element and being able to interact with them without feeling scared or them feeling vulnerable - that's nice to see,' she said.

Ms Kohan said she has been swimming with sharks for about seven years and swam with humpback whales for the first time last year.

She said she hopes to break the stigma surrounding sharks.

'They're beautiful creatures and so unique. People always need to be respectful of their surroundings and appreciate that they are just a beautiful animal.'

The 22-year-old's (pictured) Instragam has skyrocketed from 20,000 followers in September to 241,000 followers.

'She had the most beautiful colourings on her belly,' Ms Kohan wrote describing the whale (pictured).

Ms Kohan said she was bitten by the pig on the right at Big Beach in The Bahamas (pictured).

The 22-year-old, who works as a nanny while attending school, said she began documenting her travels on Instagram and her rising popularity soon helped her forge relationships with hotels and swimsuit brands.

Ms Kohan said she has teamed up with Four Seasons and Maui and the Ritz Carlton in Laguna for projects, during which the company pays for her hotel in exchange for promotional work.

She said she was funding all of her own travels initially but it is now '50/50.'

Ms Kohan said social media has changed the way people travel and has helped her share her experienced with friends, family and other globe trotters.

'I think it has given everybody their own way to show a unique perspective on different locations. When I'm planning a trip I look at the tagged locations and see what other people have done and use that as inspiration to create my own.'

'When you only have two pieces of fish for dinner but all of your extended relatives rock up and they're hungry,' she wrote (pictured).

Science/Technology / This Man Built A House That Harvests Rainwater, Produces Solar Energy & Organic by gabonsky: 11:10am On Feb 11, 2017
This Man Built a House That Harvests Rainwater, Produces Solar Energy, Organic Food, and Biogas!

On New 17 Vasu Street in the Kilpauk area of Chennai lies an almost fully self-sufficient house. Completely solar-powered, the house also has its own biogas unit, water harvesting unit and kitchen garden. While the house has gained fame due to its renewable ways, so has its pioneering owner.

Affectionately called Solar Suresh by his friends and family, D. Suresh believes in living a self-sufficient and comfortable life without being dependent on others.

CHENNAI, TAMIL NADU, 23/04/2015: D. Suresh, a resident of Kilpauk in Chennai has solar panels to produce renewable energy and a vast collection of plants that adorns his terrace.

A graduate of IIT-Madras and IIM-Ahmedabad, he has worked as a marketing executive in textile companies where he rose to become the MD of a textile group. Currently the general manager of a company, he starts his mornings by brewing coffee on a stove, which runs on bio-gas, before reading a newspaper under fans powered by a solar plant. Lunch and dinner comprise of organic veggies grown in his lush roof-top kitchen garden.

Asked what inspired him to source electricity from solar energy, he says that the idea came to him when he visited Germany.

“I saw that people there had roof-top solar plants, which made me think if a country that has little sunshine can be successful in implementing solar plants, then why not India, especially Chennai, where solar energy is available to us in abundance,” he recounts.

When he returned to India, he decided to implement this idea by designing a self-sufficient home.

Initially, he met large companies for help in installing a solar plant but when they showed no interest in the small projects, he decided to get the help of a local vendor. The local vendor shared Suresh’s enthusiasm and interest in solar energy and together they managed to experiment, design and manufacture a 1 kilowatt (kW) solar power plant for home use in a little over a year. In April 2015, he upgraded the capacity of the power plant to 3 Kw.

Explaining how it works, he says,

“There is no separate wiring required and the installation takes just a day while the basic maintenance requires cleaning of panels once in six months only. As for utility, I charge the battery during the day which supplies power to the house right through the night. Since the solar plant depends on the UV rays of the sun and not the intensity of the heat; therefore, it works even during the rainy season.

I live in an independent house with 11 fans, 25 lights, a refrigerator, computer, water pump, TV, mixer- grinder, oven, washing machine and an AC that are all powered by the solar plant. Thanks to the solar plant, I haven’t experienced any power cut even for a minute in the last 4 years and have saved electricity charges by producing around 12 to 16 units a day.

During the recent cyclone, while the entire city was out of power for 3-4 days, we had solar power from the very next day after the cyclone – and all my friends and neighbours were charging their phones and filling water from our home!

Suresh says that setting up solar plants is eco-friendly and economically viable for homes, businesses and public sector institutes such as hospitals, schools and colleges.

“The large flat roof of a building is a great place for solar panels. Also, once installed, the process of generating electricity is free for 20 years – during the life span of the panels – there is an inbuilt insurance from increase in electricity tariff in future.

Not only will these systems contribute to environmental sustainability in the region, but the cost savings will also contribute to the financial stability of these institutes. Just think what schools could do with the extra cash saved from in-house electricity bills: libraries, playgrounds, field trips or the salaries of more teachers!

A great option in Tamil Nadu is the state government’s Solar Net Metering Scheme. Under the scheme, the first 10,000 consumers in the state who set up 1kW systems will get a subsidy of 20,000 from the state government in addition to the Central government subsidy of 30,000. A 1kW rooftop solar power system costs between 80,000 and 1.2 lakh, based on the quality of the solar panels.

If one is worried that collecting the subsidy will be a long-drawn process, then one should take the direct route and do it himself. After all, do we worry about subsidy when we buy a TV, washing machine or a car? Just like them, a solar plant is also a device for our comfort and convenience with the bonus of being environment friendly!” he adds.

Apart from this, Suresh also has a biogas plant, a rain water harvesting system and a kitchen garden.
solar Suresh’s biogas unit (left) and rainwater harvesting unit (right)

He collects the rain water from the terrace and purifies the water through an organic filtration plant, which consists of layers of pebbles, charcoal and sand, after which the water is stored in the sump and used for various purposes.

“I see a lot of water stagnating in and around my place, for which I have also installed 15-inch slotted pipes into the ground. By channelling the collected rainwater into the soil, this process recharges the ground water,” he adds.

Suresh also collects organic waste and leftover food from his own kitchen, neighbourhood households and a vegetable market nearby as raw material for his biogas plant. The gas produced from the plant is used to cook food at his home.

“It’s a very simple and low-maintenance method of resource optimisation. To produce gas, the biogas plant requires organic waste, i.e. cooked, uncooked, leftover food and vegetable peels, which provide 20 kg of gas. No odour is generated and no manual intervention is needed, except feeding the plant with organic waste twice or thrice a week.

The one I have at home is 1 cu. mtr in capacity and processes about 10 kg waste per day to produce about 35 to 40 kg of gas per month, which is equivalent to approximately 25 to 30 kg of LPG. The slurry leftover from the biogas plant acts as organic manure for the kitchen garden,” he explains.

Suresh likes to spend his mornings pottering about his garden where he organically grows about 20 types of vegetables.
Suresh with his solar plant (left) and kitchen garden (right)

Most of his home cooking needs are now taken care of from the kitchen garden.

“It’s a phenomenal sight and experience to spend a few moments daily in the garden watching these vegetables grow right under my nose! A few days ago, my wife needed green chillies at 10 pm, and I could pluck them myself from the terrace garden!,” he says enthusiastically.

Suresh has also tried to create a verdant forest-inspired vegetation cover around his home. Other than reducing the average real-feel temperature around the home, the lush garden of bamboo, fruit trees, creepers, shrubs and more is an oasis of natural beauty in the urban surroundings.

“When on the terrace, I get the wonderful feeling of being in a forest and not in Kilpauk, the heart of a hustling-bustling urban city. I love the fact that I can’t see any neighbouring buildings and chaotic traffic – only greenery!”

Suresh has tried to create a verdant forest-inspired vegetation cover around his home.

Encouraged by the benefits he has seen in this sustainable way of life, Suresh has taken it upon himself to take this revolution to as many households, organizations and institutions as possible through education and persuasion, on a pro-bono basis.

So far, he has succeeded in setting up solar power plants, biogas plants and kitchen gardens in several households, schools, and offices. He has also given presentations in over 20 institutions, associations, schools, colleges, and apartment societies over the past 2 years. Thanks to his tireless efforts, his home on New 17 Vasu Street has become the new destination for annual study tours for local school students from classes 5-12.

“These are old concepts which people have now forgotten; people just need to be aware that they can live a comfortable life without being dependent on others or on methods that harm the environment. I am trying to just that,” he concludes.

Culture / The Growroom Is A Spherical Farm Pod That Brings Agriculture To City in Denmark by gabonsky: 11:01am On Feb 11, 2017
Space 10 and Danish architects Mads-Ulrik Husum & Sine Lindholm created an innovative, beautiful urban farm dome that shows how we can bring nature and food farming back to our cities. With a rapidly increasing population, food demands are skyrocketing, but current factory farming methods are hardly sustainable. Space10 wants to address that problem with brilliant solutions like The Growroom.

The Growroom was exhibited first at the CHART ART FAIR in Copenhagen, a fair that exhibits exceptional design from the Nordic region. According to Space10, the Growroom is meant to “spark conversations about how we can bring nature back into our cities, grow our own food and tackle the rapidly increasing demand for significantly more food in the future.”

The Growroom is filled from floor to ceiling, end to end, with vegetables, herbs and other edible plants, with a cozy space in the center to reflect and relax. It is a beautiful way to explore how we can bring more food to our cities in a self-sustaining eco system that can supply hyper-local food that is seasonal, fresh and high quality. Growroom gives us “food that tastes better, is healthier for us, more nutritional and doesn’t put massive pressure on our dwindling supplies of fresh water nor our environment,” says Space10.

Earlier this month, people were able to step into the “farm” and experience the Growroom with every sense – from the smell of the plants to the light filtering in between the garden spaces. It’s easy to imagine how such a space could become a feature of every neighborhood, providing a green escape from city life that also provides nourishment. “We’re inviting [people] to step inside the growing green haven, smell and taste the abundance of herbs and plants, and hopefully it will spark passion about growing your own food in the future,” said Carla Cammilla Hjort, Director of Space10.

Travel / 6 Ways Traveling Can Boost Your Health by gabonsky: 5:14pm On Feb 06, 2017
Who doesn’t love a good trip? It’s a chance to unwind, meet new people, learn and experience new things, and check another one off the bucket list. From pursuing favorites hobbies such as skydiving in Switzerland or strolling through Parisian museums, to getting wonderfully lost on a drive between Santa Fe and San Diego or trying Mamma’s pizza in Florence, travel opens us up and heightens our experience of being alive. Did you know that it also boosts health, nourishes the immune system and mental state, and can increase your life expectancy? After reading this, you may find yourself booking a ticket or packing the car!

6. Better Perspective

You’ve probably been in a situation where you had a problem and couldn’t get away from it, no matter how hard you tried. Stepping away from a problem is often the best way to find a solution and there’s no better way to step away that to take a vacation. Time and distance can bring a new perspective on your problem. Most likely, you’ll return with an answer in hand or maybe with the realization that your problem wasn’t such a big deal after all. Problems often shrink while traveling to new environments since we are presented with new situations to navigate and have to more understanding of our lives by stepping away from them.

5. Catch Some ZZZ’s

Most people are sleep deprived. Although it’s recommended to get eight or more hours each night, many survive on less than seven hours. Getting adequate sleep boosts immune function, makes it easier to lose weight and helps with mental clarity and health. A vacation is a time when you can leave the alarm clock at home and regain all of the health benefits of getting those extra zzz’s.

4. Say Goodbye to Stress

Stress is an all too common word today. From taxing jobs and the day-to-day stresses of balancing work, family and home, many people aren’t even aware of this culprit until it compromises their immune system and steals their health. And, whoa, does it ever. It is now common knowledge that many health ailments and diseases are the byproduct of too much stress. Taking a vacation can take you out of the very environment that keeps you unable to relax and give you the healing, peaceful oasis that can calm your nerves and ease your worries. Vacations give you time to do all the stress-free activities that your heart desires: reading a book while lying on the beach, going for a long, leisure walk, or taking time to watch the sun disappear on the horizon.

3. Say Bye-Bye To the Blues

Traveling can be a wonderful cure for depression. The Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies did a study on how traveling affects depression. They found that people who travel experience less sadness and stress. Got the blues? Start looking a cities you’d like to visit.

2. Your Daily Dose of Exercise

Whether you’re climbing Kilimanjaro, walking around ancient ruins and museums, or hiking down the Pacific coast, chances are you’ll get more exercise than usual when you’re on vacation. Add to that the addition vitamin D from extra sun exposure and you can look forward to your next health-boosting trip, and maybe fitting back into those skinny jeans.

1. Live Longer

Science has proven that making time for a vacation means expanding your potential lifespan. A 2013 study of Americans showed just that: travel leads to a longer life. For women, two vacations per year lowered their risk of heart attack, compared with those who only got away every six years. And by not taking a yearly break, men increased their chances of heart disease by 30% and had a 20% higher risk of death. Now, if that doesn’t motivate you to look at plane tickets today…

Travel / 6 Of The Craziest Airport Runways In The World by gabonsky: 8:32am On Feb 06, 2017
6 Of The Craziest Airport Runways In The World

According to reports by the majority of world pilots, taking off and landing is considered one of the most dangerous and horrifying aspect of any flight. Some conditions are far worse than others, of course, and even the most trained pilots won’t fly in certain areas or airports. Mountain peaks, cliff faces, over-crowded beaches, and even some bad traffic will ensure pilots cannot fly safely. Here are 6 of the craziest airport runways in the entire world!

6. Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport

Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, of Saba Island, is a 1300-foot-long runway that is only a tad longer than the majority of sea carrier runways. This airport is built atop a steep cliff, and one wrong move by the pilot leads to the entire plane landing in the ocean below.

5. Qamdo Bamda Airport

The Qamdo Bamda Airport in Tibet is the highest airport in the entire world. The runway was built at over 14,000 feet above sea level, and the entire runway is 3.5 miles long. That length may be excessive, but it is required due to the extreme altitude.

4. Ice Runway

The Ice Runway in Antarctica is incredibly dangerous due to the extreme weather conditions that can prevent a pilot from even landing. Unfortunately, the airstrip is required for supplies and researchers to reach McMurdo Station.

3. Barra International Airport

The Barra International Airport, of Scotland, is one of the only runways in the entire world that is also a beach. During the times when the airport is closed, people are able to swim and make their way along the beach for a romantic walk.

2. Toncontin International Airport

The Toncontin International Airport, of Honduras, is known in the record books for multiple accidents, including one collision in 2008 that caused five deaths. The airport’s runway is just a little over seven-thousand feet, and is surrounded by hazardous mountains.

1. Madeira Airport

The Madeira Airport, in Portugal, has experienced Boeing crashes where tens of passengers died. They have since lengthened the runway by using support pillars along the nearby beach. Pilots aim their craft at a mountain in order to land correctly.

Culture / Women Feared Dead In Portugal After Sacrified To Goddness by gabonsky: 12:48pm On Feb 05, 2017
Sacrificed to the Gods: Woman is feared dead after being swept out to sea during a ceremony honouring an 'ocean goddess' during a storm on Portuguese coast

A woman is feared drowned after she was swept out to the Atlantic Ocean during a religious ceremony honouring a goddess of the sea in the middle of a heavy storm.

The 34-year-old was one of four people who were taken away by a wave on the Costa Nova beach in central Portugal on Thursday night while the coast was lashed by strong winds and huge waves, local officials said.

Three people managed to make it back to land but the woman has not been seen since.

Portuguese media said the four were part of a group of ten people who ignored warnings to stay away from the coast because of the rough weather and held a ceremony in honour of Iemanja, an Afro-Brazilian goddess of the sea.

Candles, fresh fruit, necklaces and a box with two pairs of shoes were found near spot where the group had gathered, daily newspaper Jornal de Noticias reported.

'We are determining what happened. What we know is that ten people were gathered and four were swept up by a wave. Despite all the warnings, this situation occurred,' Carlos Jose Isabel, commander of the nearby port of Aveiro who is leading the search effort, told reporters.

Devotees celebrate Iemanja, the supreme deity in the Candomble religion, every February 2 by wearing white and sending flowers out into the ocean for good luck.

Portugal counts an estimated 1,000 followers of the faith, which came to the country via its former colony Brazil - although officials say it is difficult to know exactly how many worshippers there are.

Most of Portugal's coast was on 'red alert', the weather office's highest alert level, on Thursday because of large waves, heavy rain and strong winds.

Is this the world's oldest intimacy gadget? 2,000-year-old bronze pleasure device is found in the tomb of an ancient Chinese aristocat

Rare pictures have been released showing the ancient intimacy gadgets that once belonged to the Chinese royals and aristocrats.

The two pleasure devices, both made of bronze, date back more than 2,000 years to China's Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD).

They were discovered in the modern-day Jiangsu Province near Shanghai inside the ancient tombs belonging to the rich and powerful.

The bronze artefact was discovered in 2009 inside the tomb which is believed to belong to a regional King in the Han Dynasty.

It was unearthed by archaeologists in 2012 and has since been kept at the Yizheng Museum. It is not shown to the public.

A member of staff at the Yizheng Museum told MailOnline that the bronze item had been found inside the tomb of an aristocrat in the West Han Dynasty (206 BC–8 AD), the first part of the Han Dynasty.

The other intimacy gadget apparently belonged to a Chinese imperial family.

The artefact, which has a flat base, was found inside an ancient tomb in the Xuyi County in western Jiangsu in 2009. It has been kept at the Nanjing Museum, the capital of Jiangsu Province.

In 2011, the owner of the tomb was identified as Liu Fei (169BC-127BC), the first king of Jiangdu, an autonomous kingdom within the Han Dynasty, according to China News.

Liu Fei was also a half-brother of the Emperor Wu of Han, who ruled from 141BC to 97BC.

Both intimacy gadgets were unearthed in modern-day Jiangsu Province near Shanghai.

The two extraordinary intimacy gadgets will go on display at an upcoming exhibition at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco in the United States.

The exhibition, called 'Tomb Treasures', will showcase more than 160 artefacts from the Han Dynasty.

The historical items, all found inside ancient tombs, include luxurious daily life ornaments, worship items as well as private objects associated with sex and pleasure.

Zhang Fan, the co-curator of 'Tomb Treasures', said the two pleasure devices 'could be worn and used' and that they reflected an 'almost modern appreciation for the body's needs and wants'.

According to Mr Zhang, the other intimate artefacts at the exhibition will include a large silver basin for taking baths, a working stone latrine with an armrest and an elaborate ceramic urinal.

Jay Xu, the director of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the co-curator of 'Tomb Treasures' said: 'This exhibition underscores how connected we really are to the past, that we share the same passions across time and culture.'

The exhibition will run from February 17 to May 28.

Starving child who was left for dead by his parents who thought he was a WITCH is full of joy as he sets off for his first day at school, one year after amazing recovery

A starving child who was left for dead by his parents who thought he was a witch has been pictured full of joy as he sets off for for his first day at school.

Photographs of the little boy known as Hope broke the world's hearts last year after a charity worker found him emaciated and riddled with worms after being abandoned.

Having made a miraculous recovery, the now healthy-looking youngster set off to embark on his education in a strapping red outfit.

A year on from being found abandoned (right), the boy known as Hope is off to school (left)

The healthy-looking boy has made a remarkable recovery after his traumatic ordeal

Hope, pictured with Anja, was abandoned by his parents because they though he was a witch.

Anja, who works with a number of children in Nigeria, sits with Hope and another child on her lap.

The then two-year-old Nigerian boy was found in a shocking state last year.

Hope was abandoned by his family because they thought he was a witch and was found in the streets by Anja Ringgren Loven, a Danish woman living in Africa, in January 2016.

Almost a year on to the day, she posted amazing before and after photographs of her holding a water bottle up to the boy's mouth.

In an emotional Facebook post, she wrote: 'On the 30th of January 2016 I went on a rescue mission with David Emmanuel Umem, Nsidibe Orok and our Nigerian team.

'A rescue mission that went viral, and today it's exactly one year ago the world came to know a young little boy called Hope

'This week Hope will start school.'

Back in January, Ms Loven found the boy after he spent eight months fending for himself and living off scraps.

She bent down and gently began feeding him and giving him water from a bottle. She then wrapped up the disorientated toddler in a blanket and took him to the nearest hospital for treatment.

When Hope reached the hospital, he was given medication to remove the worms from his stomach and daily blood transfusions to incorporate more red blood cells into his body, Ms Loven said.

And two days after the aid worker asked for the community's help with Hope's costly medical bills, she received more than $1million in donations from around the world.

Ms Loven is pictured helping give Hope a bath after he was found walking the streets starving, disorientated and riddled with worms.

Just eight weeks later, Hope was unrecognisable having gained weight and pictured smiling and playing with other children.

Ms Loven is the founder of African Children's Aid Education and Development Foundation, which she created three years ago to help children who have been labelled witches and therefore neglected or even killed by the members of their community.

'Thousands of children are being accused of being witches and we've both seen torture of children, dead children and frightened children,' she wrote on Facebook, accompanying images of her feeding the young boy and appealing for donations to help pay for his medical bills in January.

'With all the money, we can, besides giving Hope the very best treatment, now also build a doctor clinic on the new land and save many more children out of torture.'

she said two months after his rescue.

Ms Loven runs a children's centre where the youngsters she saves live and receives medical care, food and schooling.

She and her husband, David Emmanuel Umem, began building their own orphanage in late January last year.

They regularly share posts of their progress on social media and have garnered a huge following.

Properties / FAAN Evicts Retirees From Quarters After Quit Notice Expires by gabonsky: 8:21am On Feb 03, 2017
There was confusion at the Federal Airport Authority of Nigerian (FAAN) quarters in Lagos yesterday following the forceful eviction of some retirees of the authority who refused the quit their apartment.

A combined team of officials led by policemen and FAAN personnel in security, administration, legal, operations, environment, estate and stores departments stormed the official duty quarters in the early hours to remove the property of the recalcitrant retirees.

A source hinted that four policemen attached to the Airport Police Command were arrested and locked up by their superiors for participating in the exercise without “official approval”.

The four policemen were reportedly locked up for taking firearms to the quarters. Their arrest followed lack of due process in participation in the exercise.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Airport Command, Joseph Alabi, promised to investigate the involvement of his colleagues. But chairman of Aviation Parastatals Retirees, Thadeus Obidike, said the eviction of the retirees violated existing agreement between FAAN and its workers who are covered in the Monetisation Policy of Federal Government. He said the matter was already in court, saying FAAN acted in violation of existing discussions.

In a swift reaction, the Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, said the authority took the right steps to evict the retirees having served them series of notice to pack out of the duty quarters.

She said the six affected retirees were the first batch of former workers who have abused the privilege granted by the authority.Yakubu said FAAN took the right steps to secure the “duty quarters” so that serving staff in essential operations department have accommodation to rapidly respond to emergencies. She said if the previous occupants have not vacated the quarters, the serving staff would not have accommodation.

“FAAN evicted the retirees from the duty quarters because the affected persons have been paid their gratuity and other entitlement in the last one year. They have to vacate the duty quarters because FAAN has paid them and written several notices to them.
“They were even given an ultimatum, and they signed a letter of undertaking that they will move. But, as at yesterday they refused to move and we have to activate the evict order. The issue of FAAN harassing them does not arise, FAAN acted within the laws of the land.

“The apartments cannot be sold, they are duty houses for essential staff. Such people have to disabuse their minds from thinking that they can buy government houses. In the condition of service, the provisions made have being complied with. The affected retirees are just giving excuses that do not hold any water.

Investigations revealed that the six retirees have been paid their gratuities by FAAN, but refused to vacate the premises. Meanwhile, some of the affected retirees had to make arrangement to evaluate their property out of the quarters.

Science/Technology / Newly Invented Off-grid Solar Grill Can Store & Cook @ Night Without Electricity by gabonsky: 4:58pm On Feb 01, 2017
Newly Invented Off-Grid Solar Grill Can Store Energy & Cook At Night Without Electricity

This new invention is capable of cooking the food you eat during the day, but it will also be able to harvest and store solar energy! This will enable users to cook food at night using the stored power.

How is this possible? The solar grill uses a fresnel lens to heat lithium nitrate. Lithium nitrate is the lithium salt of nitric acid. It is made by reacting lithium carbonate or lithium hydroxide with nitric acid.

The grill will be able to store energy for up to 25 hours and release it as convective heat at temperatures up to 450 degrees fahrenheit! This technology is from MIT professor David Wilson and has amazing potential. You could technically use the stored heat in order to heat your home, water, and maybe even as a source of electricity! After all, heat is energy and energy can be converted to electricity.

Right now, this is a concept product, but it is based on real science and technology. Our sun is an incredible source of energy and the fresnel lenses are capable of storing that heat energy.

Car Talk / Alpina B7 Individual Certainly Look Different In Chestnut Brown With Gold Accent by gabonsky: 5:24pm On Jan 31, 2017
Alpina B7 Individual Certainly Looks Different In Chestnut Brown With Gold Accents

When a standard BMW just isn’t good enough for you and you’re in search of more performance, greater refinement and a unique look, Alpina is the place to head.

Alpina has such close ties to BMW that it has almost become an extension of the German brand and offers vehicles to suit all needs and among the very finest is the B7, based around the 7-Series.

Essentially the closest thing on the market to an M7, Alpina’s take on the range-topping BMW is a true AMG rival and the following example recently delivered in Abu Dhabi is surely one of the most spectacular.

For starters, it is the only one painted in this unique shade dubbed Chestnut Brown and complemented by a Tartufo interior. Typically, brown cars look horrendous. However, this Alpina manages to pull it off thanks to the golden tinge the paint has and the bright gold accents found on the custom pinstriping and badging. A set of tightly-spoked silver wheels then complete the exterior looks.

Inside, the seats have been bathed in a sophisticated shade of brown and complemented by wooden accents and black leather across the upper half of the dashboard and the steering wheel.

As with all other B7 models, power comes from a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine delivering 600 hp and 580 lb-ft of torque, enabling the model to accelerate to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 3.7 seconds before topping out at a 330 km/h (205 mph) top speed

Business / 4 Critical Website Elements Most Businesses Are Missing by gabonsky: 5:12pm On Jan 31, 2017
When was the last time you visited a website only to leave after only a few seconds? If you are like me, chances are you did this several times just this morning.

Great websites are key to attracting and retaining visitors, and these days entrepreneurs have numerous tools at their disposal -- Squarespace, Wix, Weebly -- for creating sharp, impressive and mobile-ready websites easily and quickly. The problem is that these great resources are also creating a big issue, namely how does one identify the most trusted, authoritative and reputable websites?

In its second annual survey, the 2015 B2B Web Usability Report, Huff Industrial Marketing and KoMarketing sought to determine the website elements buyers really wanted from vendor websites, which were critical for retention and revisits and most likely to lead to conversions.

The key takeaway: Buyers want authenticity in business websites, and the most effective way to create authenticity is to demonstrate trust and credibility.

The report went on to find that most businesses are overlooking easy opportunities to improve their websites and create trust and credibility. Here are four key and surprisingly simple elements most companies are missing.

1. Contact information
According to the report's findings, 51 percent of respondents indicated that "thorough contact information" was the key website element missing from most websites. An astonishing 98 percent of respondents said that "No Contact Information / Phone Number" would cause them to leave the website (44 percent) or be so annoyed that they might leave the website (54 percent).

These days, buyers want and need to know that the site belongs to a real business with a real location. Including your physical address with your phone number and email address is the best way to do this.
Visitors also need to find your contact information easily. Burying it in small print and camouflaged in superfluous content sends a bad message. Make it clear, bold and easy to find, with all your social media links, in the footer of each page. If you create a separate contact page, make it easy to find and navigate to.

2. About you
Another important factor for creating trust and credibility is providing information about you, your team and your company. Fifty two percent of respondents indicated that "About / Company Information" was information visitors most wanted to see on your homepage and best established credibility (second only to "Contact Information"wink.

Spend time developing your company story and provide your visitors with detailed bios, backgrounds, histories and even relatable personal stories of each key team member. Include links to each of their professional websites, such as LinkedIn and Twitter, as well as a clear, high resolution picture (you should consider hiring a photographer to take professional headshots).

Another valuable element to establish credibility is to publish your client list and testimonials. This may not be possible in many cases and for many reasons, but nothing speaks to your value and credibility more than a long list of happy clients.

3. Appropriate content
Many entrepreneurs believe that having an engaging social media presence and creating regular blog posts are the keys to converting clients. While these are useful strategies, the survey found that videos, social media activity and blog posts ranked lowest on "content assets that create credibility."

Instead, focus your marketing efforts on creating white papers, case studies, research reports and articles that establish your credibility as an expert in your industry. Write often and leverage customer feedback to create fresh and relevant content they want.

For this information to permeate organically, you should consider providing it for free without requiring personal information, as the survey found that more than 70 percent of respondents indicated they would not be willing to provide their information to receive yours.

4. Keep it simple
While businesses continue to move to mobile-first strategies, especially given Google’s recent search engine update that prioritizes mobile-ready sites, the survey found that for now, at least with business-to-business companies, 61 percent of respondents indicated that a mobile-friendly website did not impact the buying decision.

Clearly, companies should not abandon a mobile strategy, nor should they rush to abandon their website strategy. Instead, entrepreneurs should embrace an approach that pursues both with the same strategy: keep it simple. Resist the urge to load your site with content and limit it to only what your visitor needs.

As websites improve and as more people consume content on mobile devices, we will all come to expect the same experience from our websites as we do from our mobile sites. Easy navigation and simple and responsive designs will not be enough, however, so businesses will need to rely more on creating and establishing authenticity to attract and convert visitors.
