So despite all of IPOB's noise of marginalisation, the SE has by far the highest number of appointments in NNPC?

I am not surprised they are making noise. They are just offended Igbos that have achieved and useful are doing well in Nigeria, while the few useless ones are making noise.

Ibe Kachikwu Suspends Surajdeen Afolabi Over Fraudulent NNPC ERP Project

It was exposed few days ago that some crooked officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, stole billions of naira via an enterprise resource solution meant for accountability. Quickly, this week, Ibe Kachukwu, GMD/CEO of the corporation on Thursday took action and suspended the official at the centre of the scandal indefinitely.

Sources that spoke to Premium Times said the recently appointed Group General Manager, SAP/IT Department, Surajdeen Afolabi, whose unit is in charge of the controversial SAP project, was asked to immediately proceed on indefinite suspension.

Mr. Afolabi had been in charge of the project since 2007 when it was originally conceived as a plank of the then Olusegun Obasanjo administration’s reform agenda in the oil and gas industry.

This suspension will enable NNPC to review the project. It is possible more heads will roll over this project.

it depends on the king or perhaps the individual culture, some dont keep harems while others do.

So, some people might not be familiar with such a scenario.

Even in Ife, its the tradition for the king to have many wives, however, it doesnt really mean every Ife king has had many wives, just that its expected they will.

If keeping a harem is counter productive for a culture, you wont find it there. However, if its considered necessary, then you will.
I don't know of any major Yoruba Monarch in History with just one wife.

There have been 50 previous Kings of Ife, I can't think of just one who was monogamous. Talk less of a significant number to argue it is not the norm and tradition.

Same for Alaafin, Alake, Olowo and co.

it's because nowadays there's a lot of glamour which they imagine is attached to being a king's wife (impression of western society and also media photographs in African society).

However, traditionally, there was relatively less glamour attached to the position and most women would prefer avoiding such if possible if they knew what it entailed.

Not saying there is no enjoyment there, at least most times there will be money and a comfortable lifestyle, but you have to be strong spiritually to handle being a king's spouse in the Nigerian context.
They need to learn those facts instead of talking rubbish, confidently, about their warped knowledge of how African monarchy works.

Imagine Africans claiming it is "cultural and traditional" corruption for an African King to take a new wife or to have a King that does!!!

Completely lost people. I am sure they are the types that would even name their kids Shantella and Monishiqwaqwa instead of indigenous names.

@ gamesmart

You have a few points there but your presentation is rather aggressive.

True, a king's harem traditionally is rather fluid and in the past, considered a sort of boot camp for women. However, in modern times it (harem keeping) is not really expected like that. In addition, many kings decided not to engage in polygamy or harem keeping due to the modern era as well as their personal preferences.

Being part of a king's harem is not really as easy as most women would imagine, outside the glamour and public appearances. Its hard enough even without the presence of a harem, how much more when there is one.
That might be a fair argument, but what I am correcting this people on is their argument that "tradition is being corrupted", what they regard as "historical disqualifiers" of a Yoruba King and their complete lack of knowledge of African history, customs and traditions while postulating their Western culture as the historical norm for Africa.

It's shameful. For a long time my dad said ifa has no hand in picking obas anymore in yoruba culture. I thought it was a lie. This marriage has brought to light a whole lot of issues. The yoruba obaship has been bastardised on the alter of politics. Oba akiolu is another oba that isn't supposed to be on that throne in the first place. They don't even follow tradition anymore. When the wrong person is on the throne, there is bound to be problems and confusion. It is true everybody has a past but this woman's past is to strong. From what I have heard about the oba, they deserve each other. The woman or man an individual marries most of the time is a reflection of who they really are.........this is just the way life is. No hope for virtuous women.
Another one with empty sense.

Go and read your history to get sense.

Yoruba Obaship has not been bastardised, it is your education, your knowledge of your culture/history/traditions and your mentality that has been.

When young people mount positions they never thought they will get to this is what you get. In the first place how did a man who cannot manage a home get up there to now mediate into normal peoples affair. Secondly, should this be his first major assignment to divorce his lovely Yoruba wife for Benin Benin woman.

Ok now they say she has been married 3 times before, O No No No, what is this, is it because she is yellow. Now see how the great throne is been demystified by bringing in strange women from other places into the palace.

This is one of the reasons why I will always like president GEJ, he remained with his wife, he didn't do like the leaders and oba, emir and governors would do by marrying a young lady over the one that suffered with them, prayed for them to make it and tolerated their excesses when they had nothing.
GEJ stayed, the more they mocked his wife the more he loved her, his opponents used the wife as a political tool for campaign he still loved her. That is the way it should be.
Not when young men that have not even started have started to change wives at this early stage, that means if he stays on the throne like his predecessor he will have a retinue of wives.
This is one of the most stupid statements you will ever read on NL.

Man, your sense is empty.

In African Monarchy, polygamy is the norm and accepted.

Even kicking out wives that fall out of favour is frequent.

They marry many divorcees and many single mothers.

They marry as many women as they want and kick out of their harem as many as they want.

Read you history before you talk nonsense when your sense is empty.

This is not the Monarchy of Monaco or Moscow.

Have sense before you try to contribute.

I am not surprised at your sense level when someone as stupid as GEJ is your Hero. Especially because he was so weak and stupid he stayed with what many sensible men would call a complete public disgrace and let her be the Man in the relationship.

Sense, you no get!

krestup:
Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote group, is now richer than Donald Trump, Republican front runner; Roman Abramovich, owner of Chealsea football club and Oprah Winfrey, the richest black woman, put together. Dangote, who came in at the 51st position of the 2016 ranking by Forbes Magazine, is also richer than the combination of all other Nigerians who made the list. Despite losing $300 million from $15.7 billion (N3.1 trillion) to about $15.4 billion, (N3.05 trillion) in the latest rankings, Dangote remains the richest black billionaire anywhere on the planet. At $15.4 billion, the 58-year-old is richer than Abramovich ($7.6 billion), Oprah ($6.2 billion) and Trump $4.5 billion. The Nigerians who made the list are Mike Adenuga ($10 billion), Femi Otedola ($1.8 billion), Folorunsho Alakija ($1.6 billion) and Abdulsamad Rabiu ($1.1 billion), who came in at 103, 1,011, 1,121 and 1,577 respectively.

Bill Gates remains the richest person in the world with a net worth of $75 billion, “despite being $4.2 billion poorer than a year ago. He has been No. 1 one for 3 years in a row and topped the list 17 out of 22 years”. Amancio Ortega moves up to the second spot for the first time, displacing Mexico’s Carlos Slim, who slips number four, while Warren Buffett remained steady in third position. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg had the best year of all billionaires, the 31-year-old adding $11.2 billion to his fortune and moved up 10 places from 16 to the sixth spot. The global economic volatility and plunge in commodity prices also affected the billionaires’ list, as the 16 billionaires fell of the list. “Volatile stock markets, cratering oil prices and a stronger dollar led to a dynamic reshuffling of wealth around the globe and a drop in ten-figure fortunes for the first time since 2009,” Forbes said. “For our 30th annual guide to the world’s richest, we found 1,810 billionaires, down from a record 1,826 a year ago. Their aggregate net worth was $6.48 trillion, $570 billion less than last year. “It was also the first time since 2010 that the average net worth of a billionaire dropped – it is now $3.6 billion, $300 million less than last year.” Alakija was negatively affected by the fall in oil prices, while Dangote took a hit due to a fall in the Nigerian currency, naira. “Her first company was a fashion label that catered to Nigeria’s elite women, including the wife of former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, who awarded Alakija’s company an oil prospecting license. Alakija’s net worth has fallen in the past year as a result of lower oil prices,” Forbes said. As Africa’s largest cement producer, Dangote owns about 90 percent of publicly-traded Dangote Cement through a holding company, a percentage that exceeds the 80 percent ownership ceiling set by the Nigerian Stock Exchange. In 2015, Dangote and 61 others were richer than 3.5 billion people around the world.

Dangote is worth $15.4 billion.

Abramovich ($7.6 billion), Oprah ($6.2 billion) and Trump $4.5 billion. Combined, these equals $18.3 billion.
