jayrock: For an intending car owner which will you advice between the 2 Nigeria used car to acquire, Benz C200 with little repair, eg. Chuks, tires, hubs though not yet confirmed partial painting and any of the Toyota products like Camry 1999,2000,2001.
Considering so many factors eg the state of our economy, roads, and the monthly take home of an average Nigerian Bachelor whose plan is to settle down and have a better life. Thank you
henrygale: Thanks for your responses. Kindly help check the below link if it's what you are talking about so I can know what exactly to direct my mechanic to check pls.
To avoid all the wahala with unstable voltages, I will be using a 18.5 volt laptop charger to from now on, I should have one old sch IBM charger lying around somewhere....
I have already started a search for a professional tool to charge batteries, and it should be arriving in a week.
The difference with both chargers is automatic voltage regulation. Will explain more later... iv moved 1km.
The charging device I used to charge the batteries, is a transformer based charger with variable inputs/outputs on primary and secondary windings to modify output voltage and current. Watch here to understand how this works.
System is very basic, and the slightest change in voltage input or current, will take its toll on the output.
I left the shop much longer than I would have envisaged, and in that time, I am assuming the input voltage to transformer was less e.g 200v and at some point it spiked to 205v or 210v. The resultant effect is a variation in charging parameters that were set, and sadly 3 cells became fat when I came back
We lost 3 cells in the charging process yesterday, Some things are not just obtainable with Transformer based charging systems, will enlighten more when I find stand still traffic.
Ok here we go... Dropped off the kids in sch, off to ladipo (home to all ipobs) picked up a an SUV so I could kill as many birds with 1 stone in the market.
I have already been warned by Google maps...
lets see who can correctly guess what I am driving?
eghuan1: Morning. My aunt bought a brand new Honda city back in 2008. Till last week, there has never been any case to open the engine for once. Last week, I notice engine oil on the top sides of the engine cover and the mechanic said its the oil seal, which I gave him money to buy.
So I was with him when he opened the engine cover and the sludge build up was massive. He advised me to buy an engine flush so we can flush the sludge out but I should hold on till Tue next service.
I went online and read how this works, the after effect on the car and I decided not to door it again. My question now, is there any other way if getting this sludge out without using chemicals because I understand that using the hot oil method may not necessarily clear it properly.
Your Aunty has not been changing oil at the right time, also it's possible thermostat and fans have been abused.
There is nothing you should do. Shorten the oil drain intervals, if the vehicle is a 8plugs engine is 50k if it is 4plugs it is 75k, the engine no cost
penger: I recently noticed some sound when shifting gear in my Toyota Camry 2009 and also becomes a little hard, I went to my mechanic to check it he said I need to top the ATF. Will it be advisable to top it or just to drain everything out and fill it with new ATF
Use the dipstick, place a drop of oil on your head lamp, and take a picture. Upload it let me see
henrygale: Could it be the vtc actuator as the car didn't show any check engine light? Asking coz I learnt that the vtc actuator is a sensor like stuff, I located it, just afraid if tampering with it especially when it didn't display a check engine light wch could come up from a bad sensor.
It looses oil pressure when parked. It will not throw a code.
haykay2005: Help me beg gazzuz to give me audience ooo. It's only him I want to touch my car. I will rather wait till I get appointment but the earlier the better for me
haykay2005: Hello guys, if gazzuz is busy in lagos, which other reliable mechanic can one work with. Getting appointment with gazzuz is another mountain to climb. I just called him now and he is busy all tru this week. Can't wait till next week to sort my car
henrygale: Pls gazzus, I just got a tokunbo Toyota Corolla 2009 with 75k Milleage....real millage coz I got the car myself from America. I noticed a clinking/grinding sound on starting the car whenever it is cool or not used for some hours. The sounds lasts about a few seconds and disappears and does not come up if the car is started again immediately. But when the car rests a lil about 30mins to 1hr, it appears again on starting the car. What could be the problem pls?
Failed VTC actuator. Replace VTC actuator on intake side.
oyekanwahab: Was the dash board showing charging when braking or they bypassed the motor and engine system
GAZZUZZ: For some divine reason, I just requested uber to yaba and guess what it is?
This is a sign from the gods.....
GAZZUZZ: Sadly this vehicle has every warning light on, abs unit bypassed, and since I entered battery has been on empty and engine has been running consistently. This is not a good Ambasador
For clarification, I requested uber last tight to yaba, and vehicle that picked me up was a toyota camry 2007 HYBRID. It was in an abused state, but partly functional.
All through the journey, the engine was on, I guess driver spends more on fuel than regular gasoline vehicles.
Sadly this vehicle has every warning light on, abs unit bypassed, and since I entered battery has been on empty and engine has been running consistently. This is not a good Ambasador
Samad805: Oga Gazzuzz i have a question for you concerning hybrid cars....
is there a way one can ascertain the strength of an hybrid battery in a car before making purchase?? because most times it kinda risky buying hybrid cars without knowing the true state of the hybrid battery before purchase.....
THANKS IN ADVANCE
For some divine reason, I just requested uber to yaba and guess what it is?
