(5.) The bridge was named after Sir Gilbert Thomas Carter, a former Governor of the Colony of Lagos.
(6.) The bridge was expanded, upgraded and commissioned by the British colonial government on July 1958.
(7.) The construction firm, Borini Prono Nigeria Ltd., constructed the Carter Bridge.
(8.) After independence, the bridge was dismantled, redesigned and rebuilt during late 1970s. The construction method used requires that the beams have hollows.
(9.) The Alaka-Ijora flyover, on the Iddo end of the span was completed in 1973.
(10.) The parking of vehicles on the bridge has resulted in both severe road congestion in addition to contributing to its rapid deterioration.
(11.) In 2003, the Nigerian Institute of Structural Engineers noted that the parking of vehicles along the span may result in collapse if left unaddressed.
(12.) In April 2006, the Lagos State Transport Commissioner announced that all commercial vehicles would be banned from entering Lagos Island by way of the Carter Bridge to keep buses and other vehicles from parking on the bridge.
(13.) Also in 2006, the Lagos State government instituted a ₦ 50,000 fine for persons parking their vehicles along the span.
(14.) In addition to congestion on the bridge, Carter was perceived as unsafe at night due to the lack of streetlights. In July 2013, Governor Fashola of Lagos State commissioned streetlights on Carter Bridge powered by an Independent Power Project. The project was conceptualized, designed and completed by the State's Electricity Board using local components and technicians.
Tyche: Methinks he's more interested in the consistent cash flow than ROI. Sadly. Most business men hardly do this, once money is coming in on a daily basis, they are comfortable.
It's a little more complicated. But 1 thing he fears most is negative comments about Ehailing
uuzba: People place different values on different objects. Cars are more valued in this environment than microscope. Even if you purchased the microscope from planet Jupiter, it is of no value to the common Nigerian man. But a car is of more value even to the poorest and most uneducated persons. Every one needs a car here for the comfort and independent movement it gives.
you really think I came to talk about hospital equipment?
dru23: I think have been pretty fair enough and transparent enough . I mean I had big issues with Romeo3 ,didn't people know about it . I lost more money with Romeo3, than any other driver I ever had .. Didn't I come to the forum to talk about it .. So if I can do that what makes u think I can't do it to the next guy ..keep in mind Romeo3 also worked for you too .. He worked for me before he worked for you and also after too ...True story..
one day draw a graph of your capital, your expenditure and income, if you do that you will know uber was not designed for rental. You have spent more than you have gained and vehicles value will drop so drastically even when you want to cash out.
This is sad, just imagine stealing this beautiful toyota camry 2012 or this 2009 toyota Highlander (TOKS) and selling it for a paltry 50k because you are broke?
dru23: Well so far so good.. Can't really can into details how long he has been driving for me ..but it has been a good amount of time. No major issue at all .
dru23: This business is not for everyone.. Look at me now ,uber has been in the Nigerian market for 4years if am correct ,and have been in the business for about three years.. My point is am not too far behind when uber started. But through ups and down. Am still here ,I change my strategy and adjust my business plan to fit the correct situation.. Do u know I had to change mechanics and drivers, do you know I had to sell off all my cars and started all over again? Do you know I went from about 8 cars to about 5 now.. Were u aware that people were saying the Mobil 1 oil couldn't move market or sell faster enough? But now I can't even keep up with demand at times.. And am still doing uber till now, when others join the so call fence.. What I did is I level up ,change my mind set .. This is coming from a guy that is not even in Nigeria.. Tell me do I have two heads? Just because a person fails at something does not mean the next person will fail .. And to keep it 100% your Gazzuz guy one of his old driver drives for me .. He is one of the best driver I have, very cocky but he delivers.. Nothing in life is easy bro ...you just have to follow your path... and keep focus.. Am glad I didn't listern to anybody, when I first started..
hahahaha he now drives for you? He has driven for almost every vehicle owner of this thread
