Good afternoon to you all. Let me update you guys. I finally allowed the Mech guy that scanned the transmission to go ahead and do repair on the gear. I posted the codes here and it was suggested that it was electrical problem. But he said it wasn't electrical after carrying out more diagnosis. Later, his findings revealed that the transaxle system was the culprit and needed to be changed, I consented with the mind that something must be done at least. The stress I have undergone in the past 2 weeks has become unbearable so I decided to give him a trial. He replaced the "transaxle " (picture attached) and informed me the gear is now working fine. After close of work yesterday, we met and test drove , it was smooth drive for 3 trips. We returned to his workshop to scanned the car, no code. Meanwhile, we drained the gear oil and replaced with 4 litres of type t-IV before we test drive. I hope no problem resurface as I drive the car throuthro today. Thanks to everyone that contributed especially Oga Gazzuzz and others. I will keep you guys posted.

It will require cancelling a few trips,
but here's how it goes. @ 5am on a weekend the bulk of people moving around lagos are runs girls, drive to hotels and clubs in lekki you will get trips but be selective, pick trips with furthest distance (they mostly go to the mainland ) once you hit first trip, move to the next location but this time target hotels on the mainland. Once the sun is up, fire to luth or satellite town (there's always surge in the morning on weekends)

Any work done on that engine recently? Timing may be off. How does the car drive?

I'll wager a rodent issue, and I guess it's a dual VVTI engine

I mostly advise and the responsible ones agree to go with advise, while the alaroros say leave am till e spoil.

So we decided to test drivers knowledge on basic mechanical parts on a vehicle. Also ask situational questions that has to do with basic observations when driving.

We found out that most people just know how to drive ... thats all ...it ends there.

With us driving isn't the end point. It may be the end point to pay the weekly rental.. But we definitely want people that know how it works ...

Driver that cannot identify Alternator or starter motor is that one a driver? angry

Interesting story!

looking at it from maintenance angle.

1. ball joints did not pull from joins (reason there was no clunking) the pull was between the threading of the ball joint and the nut.

solution: if you cannot afford OEM new parts, Buy toks ball joints, the threading is always stronger. it is also possible the nut was not tight in the first place, and started to have excessive play before it finally pulled.

2. coolant leaks: as long as you cannot see where the leak is coming from, don't try long distance driving.
With long distances, more fluid will be lost.

3. if your temp hits the high marks, allow engine cool (over an hour of waiting) before pouring water or coolant. Pouring water into a hot dried up engine will cause uneven contraction and will cause the mating surface of the head and block to become warped. Presently engine is only running because graphite gaskets are malleable, if you had installed factory spec metal headgasket, car wouldn't start.

4. timing belts and waterpump have a certain interval for replacement, for a V6 it should be around 140-160k miles, if you had followed that, this issue would never had come up.

5. When timing belt snaps on an engine that has interference, (piston able to travel distance of the valves) weather you start car or not, there will be contact. It is wise to check every valve before reassembling the head to the block. Presently engine runs, but I am sure not too smooth.
