did you connect it to the DC motor itself? There must be power and ground for it to work, the fan is Pulse Width Modulated, one is constant and the other is pulsed (ground and power), if you test it with a scope you will get a square wave, which is called duty cycle ( one of my friend says Dootie saikle) on and off signal, at the end it is still power and ground, maybe you didn't test the correct wires, you know these Germans and their over engineering, very simple things become soooooooo complicated and complex, (it is not your fault BTW). The same system is used in Toyota matrix I think from 2003 to 2008 to be precise, in the factory service manual, they showed how to test the fan itself.

I just bought a 2008 Toyota corolla, the check engine light came up a few days later, I did the scan and was told it was oxygen sensor problems . I paid for the sensor, later the electrician came and advised me to change the harnes wires on the engine,that it was bad and could damage the brain box, I obliged, problem now is the car has refused to start, just wont start, I haven't driven this car for 2weeks.
Anyone with an idea of what's going on to pls advise me. Thank you

@ GAZZUZZ, I think this is what I found at with my fan hence I made reference to it.I think my car has one of those fans controlled by the ECU and not a fuse and relay set up.cos U can never directly run wires from the battery to it to make it work it wont work , I tried it, I ended up buying a brand new fan still did not work.Problem was a stuck heating valve and leaky radiator. 318Ci 2002

Hey guys, this is to annouce the sudden and unexpected demise of my friend's engine. He was traveling and heard a bang from the engine bay then stopped. He immediately saw all engine oil flowing out. On spot investigation showed broken or pierced oil sump. Further investigation after the car was towed to shop showed significant puncture to engine block.

Apparently, a conrod did the job.

Ok fair enough I can see how that works, but what would you say with someone testing and ECU powered components as simple as a fan switch relay with a bulb?would that not amount to an attempt to fry the ECU

How can a light bulb test any component wen the procedure requires one terminal of the battery being removed?

Both have a role. Knowing when to use which is important. Quick diagnosis of "certain" circuits can be done with ease using a 12v bulb, with the right rating. Nothing about falling hand, just being realistic. A DMM will give you voltage, a bulb will give you a perception of the amount of current you are working with .

What exactly do you mean? The scan tool is unable to communicate with the brain box
take your test light and connect the lead to the negative terminal or the frame of the car and touch the number 4 pin on the dlc, the DLC is the port to which you connect the scan tool. If it does not light up then recheck the fuses.

Pls can anyone help with my 03 camry. Drove to work in the morning and ready to leve for home few hours later, it refuses to move, gear engages but doesn't rev, RPM is at 0. Scanned butf ault wasn't detected. Plugs, fuses, throttle position sensors, all checked. Car has now stopppedd cranking and running down the battery. Auto guy says no connection with the brain box. Help!
