Atouke: I would like to see you apply the same logic when it comes to matters/issues that affect other states! Hypocrisy is a serious ailment.
BTW you are yet to tell us anything about RATCOM other than it was registerdwith CAC and has a reg number, With a Lebanese as a front man.

The real issue is why is it preferred contractor in the state? could that be because of its political connection to the rauf or thifnubu? or is it because of its pedigree viz a viz the excellent projects it has executed for the state of Osun over a period of time that has given it a preferential status for state contracts?
Are you people for real? Are you guys born dishonest and fraudulent? The guy asked Aregbesola to explain the "ownership" of Ratcon for f*ck sake. It is here in black and white yet people now see you turn it into an issue of "preferred contractor" huh huh Incredible what hate has done to you guys. You simply have no shame.

“Who owns Ratcom? This is a question I will like Gov. Aregbesola to
answer for the good people of Osun State”
, the source concluded.

gratiaeo: slowpoke we are talking about Opon Scam, here you are shamelessly displaying your stu pidity. Who cares who own ratcon company and when it was established
Mr Gwawe answer me, how come only 200 students in whole local gvt have receive the so called Opon Imo
"One of the most celebrated achievements of the Rauf Aregbesola’s
government in Osun State in Opon Imo {Tablet PC} with inbuilt text books
and past exam questions for WEAC and JAMB. The launch of the tablets and
its distribution to students in the state was hailed and an innovative
move by the state government by many.

The N8.2 billion tablets christened Opon Imo may however take on a new
name, some people have already christened Opon Scam because of new
revelations coming out the procurement, configuration and distribution
of the tablets.

Kabiru Aregbesola, the 27 year old son of Ogbeni Aregbesola has been
revealed as the brain behind the procurement of the tablets. Though the
governor has laboured hard to deny the involvement of his son in the
procurement, insisting that he only helped with software without
invoicing the state, sources say the governor may be hiding the truth
from Osun people and Nigerians.

“ The governor actually believes Osun people are not intelligent and for
that he is trying to cover our faces with wool. He has forgotten that at
Ilesha, during the launch of the tablets, Tinubu was looking for
Kabiru; they wanted to hide the boy as they did not want people to know
that it was Kabiru that handled the project. It was Tinubu that exposed
everything. He called Kabiru and said you are a billionaire now,
announcing publicly that Kabiru is the brain behind the tablets”, the
source said.

Aside the above, there are concerns over the distribution of the
tablets, as sources say that contrary to widespread propaganda by the
state government, only very few of the tablets are in circulation.

“In my own local government area, I don’t think we have fifty students
that have the tablets and they are saying it on air that they have
distributed it to all SS3 and SS2 students in my local. You can go round
all the local government areas in Ife division comprising of Ife North,
Ife East, Ife Central, Ife South and the Area Council Modakeke and you
will not get more than 200 of the tablets.

Let Aregbesola come out with his statistics and let him also take us to
where the tablets are. This Opon Imo project is a scam in its entirety.
It is another avenue for Aregbesola and his family to continue to steal
the state blind. How can you procure tablets for N8.2 billion and we
won’t feel it? It does not make sense”, a source said. "
Mumu, no one owes a prejudiced and hateful individual like you any explanation or back-and-forth discussion because your nauseatingly distasteful stereotyping of the Yoruba ethnic group, which your writing repeatedly bears out here, means it is only a foolish Yoruba person who will indulge a bigoted cad like you. Corruption anywhere in nigeria is corruption everywhere, as nigerians we must all stand up against corruption especially the new brand that rauf learnt from thifnubu least it engulf us all.
can you he objective and answer to the issue rather than seeing everthing through your tribal colored glasses.
Then do so with common sense and a respect for others - especially if you are not in a position to know as much as they do. Inspect issues to discern that they make sense before trying to instigate others against their own leader who happens to be performing well for them as all of us Nigerians say we want. If you know Nigeria currently, then you will understand that the more a leader is rated a man of his people, the more the indolent and corrupt political establishment resents him and wish to pull him down. It is down to the people to give those leaders the protection the likes of Nkrumah, Lumumba et al never got to the detriment of their people. Not many, when they are enjoying the work of the man, will let you guys come here to trash Aregbesola with lies.

You should, if a gracious person, defer to stakeholders. The consistent support for Aregbesola here on this thread is not accidental. Such support comes from people who knew what obtained before Aregbesola came on board and what has been achieved today under him. You cannot come here disrespecting those stakeholders while hiding under the excuse of "condemning corruption". The accusations are too ludicrous to be taken seriously by those fully aware of the facts. This is why stakeholders have all pooh-poohed this poor effort packaged around an id1otically unbelievable pack of lies.

By the way, I am not surprised you did not comment on how I expose the "Ratcom" lie of the article author and only seem interested in pushing your deceitful angle of "I am a Nigerian condemning corruption everywhere" nonsense. Totally expected response from someone lacking sincerity. You, my friend, are the real and proud user of the "tribal colored glasses" you think others wear.

As usual, it is those like you who are not from the south west, but full of indoctrinated hatred for the region and her people, who will be most negatively vocal and full of anger on a thread like this where issues under discussion do not concern you in any way at all. It may piss you off that the stakeholders themselves have given this garbage write-up short shrift but you should know you will always be exposed as ignorant when, out of hatred, you join issues that you know nothing about. Posters are dismissive of this article because it is a load of crap and a pack of lies even a child of six cannot take seriously. I am not surprised it is you guys with nothing to do with Osun or even the SW shedding blood here and making a fool of yourselves. Aregbesola's people love and appreciate him. They are bright and "sophisticated" enough to see what you hateful elements can never discern. The allegations are a disgraceful joke only your engine, moving on hate oil, revs to. The example below shows how much of a botch job this crap is.

All construction projects in the state are handled by a
company called Ratcom.

“Who owns Ratcom? This is a question I will like Gov. Aregbesola to
answer for the good people of Osun State”, the source concluded.
Can you tell us the company called Ratcom the article author mentions twice? Surprised that Ratcom does not exist? The company in question is called Ratcon. When your accuser does not even know the proper spelling of the company name it is not surprising he is confused over the ownership of a Company that was inaugurated in 1990 (23 years ago when Aregbesola and many of the current crop of SW leaders were in their late 20ties and early 30ties) and owned by a Lebanese-Nigerian !!!!!! What manner of senseless accusation is that even for your ultra-dull brain? Is this the sort of idiotically senseless and illogical character assassination you want people to respond to?

Unfortunately for you, most who have responded (unlike you and your co-travellers in hate) are too well-informed to be fooled by a poorly-packaged set of unbelievably stupid lies only hateful m0r0ns will be taken in by. You cannot, however hard you try, instigate people to harbour disaffection for their own leader they know is genuinely doing well. You should check yourself and accept that your hatred should have a limit tied to human decency and respect for boundaries. You overstep your boundary with your misguided and uninformed attempt to mock the entire Yoruba ethnic group based on your own abject ignorance. The lack of sophistication you infer applies only to you.

My brother, the thing tire man sef. How will Nigeria ever become a Country of solution providers when so many Nigerians think others, even private investors, owe them something? The attitude of seeing ourselves as powerless victims always, at the mercy of others, is what is responsible for some here failing to make the distinction between the public and private sector.

Personally, I think the private sector in Africa currently is beautifully unique. If only Africans themselves will realize this. With the private sector, any of us can get involved to be absolutely whatever our personal ambition enables us to be.

Why not stick to the issues raised and when it is off point you make it known and probably take a brief sublime hit at him, but in all your rant you also expose your own short comings.

Your response suggests you are someone who generates more problems rather than one who provides any solutions.
That would be you because you do not understand that Nairalander know each other. The chap in questions did not ask "valid questions". In his usual obsession with speaking negatively and in an ethnocentric manner , to malign any positive recorded by Lagos or the SW, he produced totally childish garbage that embarrass the Nigerian education system.

Go back and read what he wrote, and perhaps look into his past posts here, to see that my response is apt for him and others. If we are talking of Arsenal football club buying a player for £30 million and I begin talking of how this reflects badly on Boris Johnson, what responses do you think I would receive? Of course any progressive person is bound to find the utterances I responded to distasteful. Unless given the specific height, a 20 storey building could be taller than a 40 storey building because floor to ceiling height of individual rooms/apartments is entirely discretionary and can be significantly different from building to building. For example, a building with 15 floors of apartments, with each apartment having a floor to ceiling height of of 5 metres, would be taller than a building having 20 floors with each floor having a floor to ceiling height of 2.5 metres.

Your argument is dead on arrival because of its basic ignorance and erroneous assumption. Bring us specific metric heights of buildings to be compared and we can talk. Speaking based on "storey" is ridiculous considering that height of individual units vary within even the same building let alone from one building to the next.

Second, most tourists typically go to the same location. The Island is where the fun and it is only logical that the best hotels are there. The best hotels in Vegas are also on the strip because the value of the land on the strip is higher than anywhere else in Vegas.
Indeed. Property developers and hotelier operating at the luxury end of the market would inevitably concentrate on locating their marquee projects in the plushest part of town.
Don't blame the bloger, might be rumor she heard that she published. News from most of these blogs shouldn't be taken serious until real news outlet publish same news.
Indeed. To be honest, Shoprite is an internationally successful supermarket brand. It takes a degree of specialist nous and efficacy to get to that point. They would have done their detailed homework which would cover extensive research and precise forecasting. Sales, profitability and overall success would never be predicated on what happens over a day, a month or even a quarter. I Don't know why anyone would then take the utterance of a mere gossip blog serious especially when it talks of "barely a month" as a judgement period for a new retailer huh huh huh huh Seriously? Such patently inane talk is near illiterate and should not be entertained by a citizenry capable of critical thinking.

We really should start discussing serious ideas and issues in Nigeria. On one hand, I hate the crass inanity displayed here and on many Nigeria chat fora because such show we do not, as a Nation, routinely host citizens with a mentality for solution provisions, entrepreneurship and innovation. That makes me sad for Nigeria because this is a big problem vis-a-vis local minds finding solutions to local problems.

On the other hand, as a private citizen and from what I have seen first hand throughout Africa, it makes me realise that the few who are 'clued on' will enjoy more dominance and far less competition. In essence, it is far easier to then become a Dangote or Adenuga in Africa currently than anywhere else. Those who are ready to face serious issues, learn aggressively and dedicate themselves to being very good in a specific area of opportunity can make a killing and a name for themselves in Africa because it is still a place where too many citizens than is healthy are obsessed with garbage that matters nought instead of striving to develop their thinking and thus efficacy.

The main problem is that property developers and Hoteliers, because it is their cash, conduct feasibility studies for project viability. For many reasons the Island win as an attractive site for the most prestigious hotel projects. You guys demonstrate why Africa has not reached the level it should be at. You are educated yet cannot seek solutions let alone deliver it. It is the ability for local minds to deliver local solutions that set societies apart worldwide. With Africa, local minds seem ill-equipped and incapable of delivering solutions and we see why with your utterances above. Instead of constituting yourselves into the solutions providers of your Country, so that you can deliver Hotels like this to address hospitality demands and make yourselves wealthy in the process, you are all busy displaying crass ignorance, pettiness and an obsession with discussing inanities instead of ideas.

It is the Intercontinental Hotel group that is behind this. If you know who they are, what they do and what they have achieved, you would not be making the regrettably ignorant statements above. The 36 States of the Nation , in case some criticising the Governors here do not realise so, are legitimate tiers of the government of Nigeria. They are thus fully entitled to their share of the income accruing to the centre.

The FG is not lord over any other tier of government. Rather it is responsible for fair and prompt disbursement of what accrues to the centre to all the tiers of Government !!! It is ridiculous for any Nigerian to talk oppressively in defence of the FG, without any tenable excuse, "hijacking" what legitimately belongs to States of Nigeria. Folks can rightly argue for Governors to raise IGR but that does not justify supporting the FG to misappropriate what legitimately and 100% belongs to States with brazen impunity.

The story of an American who writes and speaks Yoruba

By Ishola Balogun
It is not in doubt that our indigenous languages are going into extinction as a result of our attitude to our native languages. We despise it, undervalue it and repudiate it as if it was criminal to communicate in our mother dialect.

Rather, we cherish and appreciate English language, foisted on us by our colonial masters over our indigenous language. Even at homes, children and kids who are victims of this scorn tend to believe English is far superior to that which confers in us our natural identity.

https://dvsl3w2q45hb8.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Professor-Apter.jpg
Professor Andrew Apter

Surprisingly, those who are real custodian of English language are more interested in our languages and cultural heritage. Professor Andrew Apter, a Director of African Studies in University of California, Los Angeles, is very proficient in Yoruba language.

He speaks and writes the language as if he was born and bred in a Yoruba remote village. A couple of years back, he wrote to a friend: Ore mi owon, omo ile naa ni! Inu mi dun nigba ti mo ri iranse eamil re! Yes, Emi ni, Ogundele, Omo Ayede, Igi aje to mi Igi Ogun gbelele!…

Apter works on ritual, memory, and indigenous knowledge as well as colonial culture, commodity fetishism and state spectacle. His historical ethnography of Yoruba hermeneutics informs his research on “syncretism” and creolization in West Africa and the Americas.

Andrew came to Nigeria in the 1980s and within the few months he stayed in Nigeria, he chose the rural areas of Yoruba land which in his estimation still have the African culture and traditions intact. As an anthropologist, he investigated such challenging questions as how humans evolved and came to adapt to diverse environments, what led to the rise of urban life, what causes disease and death, how people imbue their lives with meaning, and how language reflects and shapes social life.

As a person who actually wanted to accomplish his mission, he did not stay in the cities like Lagos or Ibadan, he chose an ancient town in Ayede-Ekiti, the then OndoState, now EkitiState of Nigeria.

He interacted with the people, mostly indigenes of the town and embraced their traditional religions like the famous late Aduni Olorisa who spent her lifetime in Osogbo in OsunState.

He loves Yemoja and Sango festivals to the extent that he wrote a book on them entitled: Black Critics and Kings: The Hermeneutics of Power in Yoruba Society (University of Chicago Press, 1992).

He went the extra mile to study the history of the town including the number of Obas that had been crowned, a history that is hardly known to many indigenes of the town.

He was so in love with Yoruba language that he studied it well. When he communicates to his Yoruba friends, he does it clearly in Yoruba with perfect lexis and structure whereas, so many of his Yoruba friends have almost become foreigners in their own country due to their inability to speak or write very well in their native language .

He adopted Yoruba name – Ogundele and he is widely known and called that name in Ayede Ekiti till date.

We have heard of many white men who came to Africa and fell in love with our indigenous languages and religions. Remember the Aduni Olorisa of blessed memory.

Aduni found our mode of dressing attractive and interesting so much that she lived in Osogbo, learned Yoruba language and equally believed in Osun goddess. We will not forget the American who only visited University of Ibadan for the first time to learn the language and preferred the name – Titilayo falling in love with our culture and traditions.

It is true that we had our kingdoms and empires such as Oyo, Benin, Songai and our system of administration. If the white men endeavour to re-write history and tell our children that their ancestors were living like apes before they were colonised, who will will be ready to dispute and challenge that notion with good knowledge of our history, culture and heritage? Is it our children and kids who we have not taught our languages or traditions at our various homes?

It would be ridiculous for an American or Briton to return to Africa in order to teach our children and grandchildren their native languages, customs and traditions. It will never happen, God willing but that is only when we shift the paradigm

jagabanare: Wow, south west is progressing
It is because the status quo, common to the PDP, has been defeated in the SW for good thanks to Tinubu. The man , despite whatever anyone says, has never supported leadership backwardness or mediocrity. He has always backed the sort of opinionated and proven technocrats/leaders most political godfathers in Nigeria reject/ostracize outright.

It is now no longer acceptable for illiterates like the late Adedibu, Tokyo, Auxillary and Crankshaft to lord it over Professors and technocrats who are masters of their game and have proven themselves home and abroad. It is sometimes the simple things that brings forth the biggest changes. It is ridiculous to think Nigeria does not have good leaders in every State and region. The biggest challenge is to help these leaders come forward and support them to gain the influential office they can use to deliver the progress Nigeria needs.
PoliticsRe: The Sorry State Of Toilet In Nigeria Embassy In Malaysia by Gbawe:
When I complained about the State of the toilet at the Nigerian embassy in Ghana under Obanikoro, some sycophantic Nairaland fan of the then ambassador was busy attacking me and lying to the forum to detract attention from a serious issue. This is one of the biggest problem of Nigeria today. I.e the bastardization of our values to the extent many now believe it is "me,myself and I". For many, there is no interest or pride at all in serving others under a banner of national pride or belief in the efficacy of individual contribution to the rise of the great nation we all hollowly claim we desire.

Many ambassadorial positions under the PDP since 1999 , bar the most important and demanding foreign Nations, have been nothing but patronage 'outreach programs' used to pacify and compensate AGIPs (any government in power) and minions of government who are felt to have 'paid their dues' for Party courses in one way or the other and thus needed to be rewarded. The result is what we have today where Ambassadors are glorified businessmen/women and 'money changers' with no natural interest in their office let alone the immediate domain they supervise.

Such individuals can never look after the interest of Nigerians or, minimally, the physical cleanliness of their own official environment. Tragic. The truth no sensible person will deny is that an Ambassador who is driven and the meritorious best to occupy his/her position will have every inch of his domain covered with adequate or exemplary supervision. Charity begins at home and there is no fit boss/leader that does not appreciate this.
Nairaland GeneralRe: New Shoprite In Ibadan Post Hidden By Mods by Gbawe: 9:06am On Sep 28, 2013
geeez: If it was about an offensive comment, it can be removed or hidden

The link was given to Shoprite's website and its authentic

What in earth is the rationale?
Make sure you lodge an official complaint in the complaint thread so that you force a response from at least one member of the moderating team. This should not be happening. Totally arbitrary action that reeks of ethnic malice.
PoliticsRe: Revenue Crises Cripples States by Gbawe: 9:03am On Sep 28, 2013
Symphony007: Look at them, like mosquitoes from repelant, all the jonathan lapdogs are avoiding this thread.
When they do show up, it will be to come here and lie or deny the obvious. To be honest, Nairaland makes a very valid argument for the notion that many Nigerians are innately dishonest and fraudulent. There should be no way any honest person can interpret all that is going on now as anything other than a negative indictment against GEJ. His actions, without doubt, have worsened the biggest problems of Nigeria. Corruption is monumental. Oil theft is at an unprecedented level. The NNPC, customs and other pivotal government institutions are at their most irresponsible and moribund worst.

Profligacy (N18 billion yearly to maintain Presidential airfleet as one example) and bloated governance is now hideously disgraceful to the extent Nigeria is perhaps at the top as per an example of ultra-callous leadership. Security is appalling overall The Nigerian Police force is as bad as it has ever been. Refining our crude optimally is a topic best ignored considering GEJ handed 'turn-around' control of our refineries to the "home of corruption" (NNPC) for 24 months.

Now in a period of stable oil price, with per-barrel benchmark considerably below what is being received and with dubious utterances of "savings" of excess earnings, we learn they are short-changing Nigerians States, and thus the Nigerian people, considerably. To a sensible person, even if a staunch supporter of GEJ, this madness signifies the Nation is in trouble regardless of the glib lies the treacherous Jonathan government, known for deceit and lack of transparency, wishes to tell. Easy to go on all day but the crux of the matter is that this man is a monumental disaster and a ridiculous joke. He will indeed bankrupt Nigeria as Tunde Bakare stated.
Nairaland GeneralRe: New Shoprite In Ibadan Post Hidden By Mods by Gbawe: 8:41am On Sep 28, 2013
I just tried to post on it too to realise it is gone. Supermods should look into this and give us a valid explanation. If this is the arbitrary action of one of the mods here, then that mod should be removed instantly !!!!!!
PoliticsRe: Massive Looting Going On Under Jonathan- NEW PDP by Gbawe: 8:11am On Sep 28, 2013
bloggernaija: No new story here.
JOnathan's destiny is to bankrupt the country-Tunde Bakare
The corruption and fiscal irresponsibility GEJ is supervising is so mind-boggling, only a fool or a dishonest person will not agree that Bakare's statement is entirely plausible given what we are all witnessing.

taharqa: If for any reason an extremely partisan and divisive chap like @Berem becomes a MOD in Politics Section, Seun and Co shld know that they are courting trouble. I say this with every sense of Respect but also responsibility I can command.... People who cannot moderate themselves cannot moderate others.
taharqa: ABSOLUTELY NO. Apart from d fact that this handle is in almost every sense like @Berem (see above), there are doubts if she is even Female Or just one of those dishonest males with a diff handle
Why do you always have to be uncouth, small-minded and petty? Why are you always overstepping your boundary ungraciously like someone with no home training or decent upbringing? Can you never take a break from this unsavoury behaviour? Why not just nominate your choice without attacking the choices/nominees of others? Nominate your own choice and leave it at that. Let the selecting stakeholders and democracy/free choice do the rest.

Atouke: Best western operates motels worldwide a motel is more or less a bed and breakfast type thing. is this the only chain that rauf could find? why is osun rascal spending 2.5bn to build a bed and breakfast type place? and some clowns are celebrating this?

??
What is wrong with you? Even if they indoctrinate you to hate and pull others down blindly, can you not read and comprehend what is written before you let the hate in your heart dictate your utterance?

To be financed by Keynes Private Equity
Furthermore, the poster below has illustrated what I am always warning about when I say Nigerians are beginning to show a unique level of hatred for each other that will continue to keep us down while others make progress. The poster below is Cameroonian yet balanced, positive-minded and decent enough to understand that a good thing is a good thing. No two ways about it. Soon Nigerian blogs will be unique for the revolting Nigerian-on-Nigerian 'bad belle' hatred going on there that is unrivalled by blogs of other nations.

CAMEROONPRIDE: Too much hate here it not funny anymore. u people sound Bush ,the hotel will benefit everyone who of course has the money. so why the hate ? Are they going to discriminate @ the gate?
Ladies & Gents, i d like if these individuals could be considered for the role:

GBAWE
NAPTU2
KATSUMOTO
eGUERILLA

Though ALL these men above fit well for the role, I strongly reccommend GBAWE because of:

-his consistency in contributions through topics (also like naptu)
-his cool temperament in handling conflicting opinions to his !!
Interesting thread. Bruv, thanks for the nomination but I am not the least bit interested in moderating Nairaland. I cherish the right to be able to post as I want at all times and that is what I value above everything else. I would not trade my role here as a poster for anything else.

@Topic.

I think a female mod should be strongly favoured. Edo Girl comes to mind but not sure she has the time to commit to moderating the most difficult section on NL. Of the active femal members, I think Londoner, Berem or Obiagelli (hope I got it right) would be good Mods. Berem is feisty but fair in my opinion and Obiagelli seems keen to stick to politics without joining issues. Londoner always conducts herself well and is always reasonable plus a consistent voice of peace and unity. Seun should reserve this position for one of the ladies here.

agbameta: Inability to read and comprehend basic English words at your tired and old age is very very disheartening.

You are obviously a sad byproduct of your Aso Rock master's bankrupt education system.

Bury your miserable head in shame sometimes..
Indeed. This is why he is here claiming to be a "medical doctor" on "sabbatical" while his ignorant and uneducated utterances leaves no one in doubt that he is, at best, a Village herbalist. What a clown.

Mumu, you better go and dispense some local herbs to earn the pay you need to drink ogogoro tonight. You don't belong here. cool cool
PoliticsRe: Buhari, Fayemi, Others Visit Tinubu In London Home by Gbawe:
porka: He looks frail but would be okay.

He still needs enormous rest and less distractions from politicians.

APC is looking similar to the defunct ACN though.

A one man party!

The opposition should build a party that relies less on just one individual no matter how effective and versatile such person may be.

It leaves them too vulnerable and causing so much anxiety if/when such an individual/owner falls sick like this.

Get well soon Mr Bola Tinubu.
This is a misconception the media has created with prompting from the ruling Party. Buhari and Tinubu are perhaps the most prominent members of the APC but the Party, far more than the PDP, has some of Nigeria's most tenacious, most talented and most opinionated younger politicians in it's rank.

These guys believe in their own ability and non will be scared or unwilling to take on greater responsibilities. Men like Ribadu, Fashola, Fayemi, Utomi, Okorocha, Oshiomhole, Aregbesola, El Rufai, Amosun are all potentially great leaders in their own right and by merit of their personality and talent. The media may not give them adequate credit for their contribution but these guys do a lot behind the scene.

For example, how many know that Fayemi, down to even drafted guiding principles and outline, is one of the main brain behind the DAWN regional integration initiative of the SW? It does not all start and end with Tinubu and Buhari even if the media makes it appear as such.
