i really pity this idoma people, the only dividend of democracy they,ve benefited from mark is the annual basketball xmas show and invitation of tuface to sing, if idomas are content with this, it means they still have a long way to go, the only radio station in otuokpo is owned by David marks daughter (joy fm) i can't count the number of times the daughters husband has been elected local govt chairman, the road from otuokpo to Makurdi is a mess, otuokpo general hospital is an eyesore, there are no infrastructural development in otuokpo, this election re-run will determine if these idoma people are wise or foolish.

HealthRe: SHAME: Over 50m Nigerians Defecate Openly (Pictured)–UNICEF by gbrown(m): 10:14am On Nov 21, 2015
HungerBAD:
BY PETER DURU, MAKURDI

THE United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has disclosed that over 50million Nigerians do not have access to toilets hence resort to open defecation.

The world body also revealed that Nigeria ranks among the five countries in the world with the greatest rates of open defecation.

This was made known in a report issued yesterday by Ijeoma Onuoha-Ogwe, UNICEF ‘A Field Office’ Communication Officer (Advocacy, Media and External Relations) on behalf of Sanjay Wijesekera, head of UNICEF’s global water, sanitation and hygiene programmes, to coincide with World Toilet Day.

The report titled, Improving Nutrition Outcomes with Better Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, pointed out the emerging evidence of links between inadequate sanitation and malnutrition among children.

Wijesekera was quoted as saying that “Nigeria loses over 150,000 children to diarrhea annually. After pneumonia, it is the biggest killer of Nigeria’s under-fives; 88 per cent of diarrhoea cases in Nigeria are attributed to unsafe water and sanitation. Where rates of toilet use are low, rates of diarrhoea tend to be high.

“Intestinal parasites such as roundworm, whipworm and hookworm are transmitted through contaminated soil in areas where open defecation is practiced. Hookworm is a major cause of anaemia in pregnant women, leading to malnourished, underweight babies.

“We need to bring concrete and innovative solutions to the problem of where people go to the toilet, otherwise we are failing millions of our poorest and most vulnerable children.”

CultureRe: The Sacred Iguanas Of Orogun Community In Delta State (photos) by gbrown(m): 7:33pm On Nov 20, 2015
[quote author=Rapmoney post=40227319]A dictionary defines tradition as “the transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way. Tradition is part of the culture of a people and it affect the way the live, interact marry and bury their dead. And tradition, they, died hard; people find it very difficult to abandon their tradition even if they are confronted with new facts and technology in the modern day.

The Orogun people are good a example of a people who are clinging to their old way of life; they believe that Iguana has extra-ordinary powers. They worship it and, forbid any indigene from eating it, no matter the situation. They believe that the iguana saved them during communal wars with other tribes, and also saves them from any kind of danger in present time.

Orogun kingdom is one of the numerous kingdoms that make up the Urhobo nation spread across Delta, Bayelsa and other states in Nigeria. Orogun kingdom is in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State with a population of over 50,000 people. For some time now people still wonder why the Orogun people still worship the Iguana. Other people think the Orogun people are wasting what they could have used for food in the name of worshipping iguana.
It was the questions raised by some persons in the state and beyond on why the Orogun people still worship the Iguana despite the increase in churches and mosque across the country, that
prompted Daily Independent to visit the palace of the Okpara-Uku, Ovie of Orogun kingdom, to know why the people worship iguana in the modern world.

Secretary to HRH Efeurhobo Eyefia I, Okpara-Uku of Orogun Kingdom, Prince Orogun Wanogho, who spoke on behalf of the monarch said, “Orogun is made up of five quarters, namely; Umusu, Unukpo, Imodje, Ogwa and Emonu. We have sacred animals in Orogun kingdom, namely iguana, dog and tiger. They are sacred animals.

“These animals, you see, we adore them from time immemorial, most especially the iguana. The iguana, right from time immemorial, any son or daughter of Orogun Kingdom does not eat iguana, dog and tiger because Orogun as a male who got married to a woman called Orhiara and Orhiara was one of the female children of Owhowha.
Continuing, he said, “One day, Orhiara went to the farm and during work at the farm, she was tasty and went to fetch water and she saw a group of iguana at the place of water, climbing each other up and down. And she was amazed and went back home to report to her husband about what she saw. The husband, Orogun said, followed her to the scene to see for himself, adding that a voice came from the iguana that the animal you see is a sacred animal and this place you see should be a shrine. That is why our shrine is at that site till date. We call the shrine Erosefe or Orhiara shrine.

However, Chief Christopher Okpowe, the Osibi of Orogun kingdom, while explaining the benefits of worshipping the iguana said, “the man called Orogun was a warrior and at a time when he was being chased at the battlefield by his enemies, he got to a river and there was no way to cross. It was there the gods of the land came up through the iguana. The iguanas formed a bridge across the river and Orogun children started walking on top of the iguanas until they all finally crossed. When the enemies got to the river, the iguanas disentangled, so the enemies could not cross to chase the Orogun children any longer.

“Since that time till date we don’t eat iguana, if you do, your skin will be like that of iguana, unless you go and appease the gods, even if you go to the best hospital in the world, it will not work. You must surely die. The dog serves like an errand boy to us, the moment it senses any danger, it will pass the information to us. This is the story of centuries ago. The tiger or lion is also sacred to us. Any Orogun indigene that eats these animals without appeasing the gods must surely die.
“The benefits of forbidding the iguana in the modern life are enormous. The communication between us and the shrine called Erosefe is the iguana because when it appeared, the Erosefe itself decorated itself with the iguana. Apart from the war aspect, if an Orogun man is travelling, if anything bad wants to happen, the iguana will appear. If you are driving and because we forbid it, once you see it, you have to wait for some few minutes, the iguana will again walk past the road you are travelling on, and that signifies that there is danger ahead. It will make the person to be more careful.

He added, “Even if an Orogun man sees the iguana on his way to a party, he has to wait for a while before proceeding because there is danger ahead.

Jarus:
It's been a while I did player rating for Eagles matches, but I'm deciding to do for this match.

Yet again, the SE struggled against an unrated African opposition. But for the for the wastefulness of the Swaziland team, they could have actually gone ahead as they had more scoring chances.

Carl Ikeme
Not tested much. No fantastic save to remember. He spent too much time dressing ball and sometimes killed tempo of game when he should have released the ball faster. Appeared composed nonetheless. 6/10

Abdullah Shehu
The right back was aweful in the first half. He didn't do much. He set too many feet wrong. He needs to work more to be rated as a professional that is capable of donning Nigerian national team jersey. 4/10

Efe Ambrose
Mr Cut. He appeared confident at the back with his signature cutting. He is becoming predictable and some opponents coaches may train their strikers on how to collect him from his cut. He also made an attempt to score from his trademark header in the second half. 5/10

Godfrey Oboabona
This guy returned to SE to have one of his worst games. His past rating has continued to wane and that may explain he is stuck to backwater club in Turkey. His passes were as poor as his defensive ability. A bad game. 3/10

Elderson Echiejile
The Monaco has toned down on his attacking style. He didn't link up with attack as he is known for. He could have done better. 4/10

Onazi Ogenyi
Hardworking but no sense. He plays in a world class team and much was expected of him. He needs to up his game. He gave away ball too easily. 4/10

Mikel Obi
Well, well, he may not be living to expectation but it was still glaring that he was a class ahead of his peers. He made flashes of passes - some accurate, some not so. He fell down too easily and also gave away possession a couple of time. Yet, it was glaring he was our best player. Removing him was a tactical blunder, IMO. 6/10.
mikel 6/10? That,s questionable, mikel has outlived his usefulness, he was a mess on the field or play, he gave away balls easily, fell like a pack od cards, held on to the ball for too long, pls stop the bias.

PoliticsRe: Fulani Herdsmen Raping, Killing Our People – Enugu Women by gbrown(m): 5:23pm On Oct 20, 2015
oluwaSmith1:
Enugu women on Tuesday called on the State government to send Fulani herdsmen packing from the State.

The angry women, who stormed the State House of Assembly in their number, said the herdsmen were engaging in serial rape of women.

They carried placards, which read: “Fulani herdsmen are killing our men with AK 47′; ‘All we are saying is, Fulani, leave our farmlands’ ‘They butchered two men at Eke’ ‘Stop robbing us at the high ways’ ‘Stop raping our women.”

They alleged that apart from molesting and raping women, the herdsmen were equally destroying their farms.

Leader of the group, Mrs Achogaonye Eze, who spoke on behalf of the protesting women, said unless the herdsmen were stopped, their lives would be in grave danger because the herdsmen were always armed with sophisticated weapons.

Eze, who is the wife of Bishop Sostenas Eze of the Enugu North Anglican Diocese, pointed out that apart from raping women and killing people in the communities, the herdsmen also engaged in robbery and kidnapping.

She lamented that they were helpless because they had complained to the law enforcement agencies to no avail.

She disclosed that people were now afraid to go to farm unless they were in groups for fear of rape or outright killing.

According to her, “They have butchered two men who tried to confront them, they rape women and destroy their crops.

“They pretend to be selling bush meat and when you stop over to buy, their gang will come out of the bush and rob you of your belongings.

“They are now wielding AK 47 guns against villagers who confront them; and since the vigilante do not have such sophisticated weapons, they are helpless.”

She added that, “our people are molested, who now behave as if they own the land. If we don’t stop them, they may rape your own wives.”

Addressing the women, speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon.Edward Ubosi, represented by the Public Relations Officer of the House, Mr. Jonas Ugwuanyi advised them to eschew violence in demonstrating their anger.

“The issue is a grievous one but I want to advise you to take things easy and channel your complaints to the law enforcement agencies,” he advised.

He, however, said that the House would look into their grievances with a view to doing something to alleviate their plight.

 National news

 02 October 2015

As Nigeria celebrate her 55 Independence anniversary on Thursday, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has urged the Federal Government to immediately return the Arabic Ajami script removed from the nation’s naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Director of MURIC Prof. Isiaq Akintola made the call on Wednesday in his independence anniversary message to felicitate with the government and Nigerians.

"We call for the reinstatement of the Arabic Anjami which was removed from the naira by the last administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan after subterranean pressure from some unpatriotic religious leaders. Nigerian Muslims regard the removal as an act of hostility taken to spite Muslims. We consider it as a step taken to satisfy a section of Christians who had been secretly agitating for the removal of Arabic graphics from some official emblems used in Nigeria.

“We see the removal of Arabic from the naira as absolutely unnecessary and an action taken by Jonathan to spite Nigerian Muslims. We hereby state without any fear of contradiction that the use of Arabic as part of the graphics on our emblems does not in any way portray the imposition of Islam or its landmarks on Nigerians. This is so because Arabic stands parri pasu with English graphics wherever the former is used. “English graphics represent Westo-Christian civilisation while Arabic graphics symbolise Islamic culture. Those who insist that Arabic must be removed from our emblems nurse an agenda of domination by elimination,” Akintola said.

He said that whoever insists on the removal of Arabic Anjami from the naira and from other emblems must accept the equal removal of English graphics from the same materials, adding that after all English is the language of the Bible as it is known in Nigeria and it is on the nation’s naira and all other emblems.

He added: “By the way, apart from massaging the ego of Goodluck Jonathan and satisfying the narrow interest of Muslim-haters, what has Nigeria gained from removing Arabic from the naira? We appeal to the Federal Government to redress this wrong.”

Professor Ishaq Akintola,
Director,
Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)

Must everybody go to Mecca? Why not quietly celebrate and stone the devil here. I think the devils here are more than anywhere in the world, facing Boko haram attack by the same muslims, killings, brutality and wiping of a community by fulanis who are muslims too, destroying our young girls under 18yrs by this same muslims and brainwashing people all in the name of religion for suicide bombing.

Any devils more than these claimed by the religion of peace?
just can't understand these Moslem folks, they think it,s childsplay to stone the devil, the devil really went on a rampage this year, 728 souls wasted, funny these same people will still travel next year to stone the devil who knows how the devil will react next year? I think these guys should concentrate on stoning the devil in kwara (saraki) at least there was no reported death

Why is Islam synonymous with stoning?
Yesterday I saw on CNN Moslems stoning a huge wall claiming to stone the devil.

Yet in Nija they are celebrating the stoning of Saraki alongside Sallah.

What a religion.
stone nah stone, if you stone the devil in mina (mecca) or stone the devil in kwara (saraki ) it,s the same, congratulations to my kwara brothers, finally the charm the saraki,s used to tie the destiny of kwaran,s is broken, pls my dear people of kwara, gather all the rocks in kwara and pelt saraki when next he visit
