Politics / Re: Open Letter To Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, The President-Elect : Are These Possible? by GCFRin2034: 7:24pm On Mar 10, 2023 |
UncleAyo: I can see him being able to initiate only Nos 2, 5, 8 , 9, and 11. And even achieving these will be hindered by the scarce resources and crippling debt burden currently on the nation. I picked those five because they are the ones that can be done without antagonizing the Hausa-Fulani oligarchy. You have to understand that he’s beholden to the north. They put him in power . And they can remove him after 4 years if they’re displeased with him . Breaking down the others and why I think he cannot achieve them : No 1 requires an immense capital investment the likes of which the FG cannot muster. Private participation must be sought. And not just in the power generation sector. The transmission sector which is controlled by FG is currently unable to handle anything above the meagre 4000 megawatts that we generate . We have never generated up to 6000 megawatts since independence. To enjoy 24-7 electricity for 250 million Nigerians, we need to invest at least $100 billion according to the World Bank https://www.esi-africa.com/industry-sectors/generation/100bn-needed-to-change-nigerias-energy-sector-world-bank/?amp=1 No 3: The credit system will be abused massively. Back in 2006, my former employer was the first to introduce a true credit card and made it widely available to the masses. The Naira Credit Card by Ecobank. We lost over 22 billion due to fraudulent accounts and unpaid debt. Much of that loan was taken over Amcon as couldn’t even recover up to a quarter. Fake addresses , fake names were used to open accounts. People created fake drivers licences just to apply . So what happened next ? Other banks coming after us learnt from our mistakes and restricted their credit cards to staff of blue chip companies. Our databases need to be strengthened before we can do this again. BVN alone cannot help. 4 Nigeria does not have the financial resources to undertake this on a scale that is widespread enough to have any meaningful impact. Take a look at the figures from the debt management office 6 Creation of paper notes will not have any economic impact if the purchasing power is the same as the coins . We need to focus on economic fundamentals instead 7. Not happening . The northern oligarchy will not allow it. 10. Not happening for the same reasons as 7 I also want to add State Police to your list . I believe the political will for that is there as the bills have gone through second reading in the National Assembly previously. But the problem with this is that who will fund it . You can’t call it state police and expect the FG to fund it. Most of these states cannot even pay salaries without relying on federal allocation. Nice topic 1 Like 1 Share |

Another takeaway from this article is the evidence of the might and level of development of the ancient Benin Kingdom. I read somewhere that before these current line of Obas of Benin came into existence around 1100 AD , there were about 30 Ogiso kings already. If you calculate an average age of 70 (plus or minus 10 years) for each king . That’s between 1800 to 2100 years BEFORE 1100AD. Therefore we’re looking at around 1000 BC. The Roman Republic wasn’t even in existence then . Unfortunately these things are not taught in detail in our schools as the curriculum is woefully inept and inadequate. Our school curriculum tries to foster an incomplete sense of national unity at the expense of our actual nationhood 7 Likes 1 Share |

Napata77: It’s not Igboland and no one is claiming it is. Yoruba is the majority population but they’re not the ORIGINAL population . That’s why the Oba said it should not be a part Yorubaland. It wasn’t me who said that. It was the Oba of Lagos. 13 Likes |

Napata77: Isn’t it rather hypocritical to hold that view while at the same time raising tantrums about future economic migrants to the same area Did you read the part where he said the King ALLOWED them to settle. He did not handover the land to them . They settled out of the kind-heartedness of the King. 29 Likes 3 Shares |

“The Awori’s and Bini’s are known to be the first settlers of the Eko land. The Awori’s are speakers of a distinct dialect close to that of the Yoruba language with a rich Bini mixture. Traditionally, Awori’s were found in Ile-Ife, they were known to be the Bini’s who followed their self-exiled Prince, the first son of the Ogiso (now called Oba) of Benin Kingdom, whose step-mother was after his head. So Aworis were originally Bini people who followed their prince out of Benin Kingdom About 1450 AD some Yorubas who hailed from Isheri in Ogun-state and Ekiti were allowed by the King to settle in Eko during a war, they came in a very large numbers thereby surpassing the numbers of the Awori’s and Bini’s. (Hence Yorubas claim to own Eko due to their numbers). So Yoruba are economic migrants to Lagos. They came around 1450 . They trooped in large numbers . 28 Likes 3 Shares |

Politics / Where Is Jimi Agbaje by GCFRin2034: 8:23pm On Mar 06, 2023 |
Why didn’t LP field him for the guber position ? Don’t get me wrong , I have nothing against the guber ambition of Chinedu Gbadebo Rhodes. Infact if he was contesting for Senate or HOR , I would’ve campaigned for him. But come on guys , can he really handle Lagos state ? Politics everywhere is complicated but Nigeria politics is a different type of complicated. Different from America or Canada type of complicated. This fine boy GRV seems to me to be too clean, sophisticated and straightforward to play the dirty game needed in a cosmopolitan mega city like Lagos. Even if he wins , how will govern the state successfully ? Will the legislature work with him if he doesn’t share money ? He will have a major task of instilling confidence and trust in all the stakeholders before the state can move forward. And depending on who controls the federal government, it might be a Herculean task. Though I know his family name and fathers influence will help with that but still …. I know that the ethics of Labour Party revolves around the uplifting of the common man . This is the ethos of Labour Party anywhere in the world . It’s supposed to be party of the working class , the platform where anybody irrespective of status or lineage can make it. Neither Jimi nor GRV aptly fits the working class description above but I think JK is slightly more of a self-made person than GRV who’s relying a little on his family name and connections (however little) . JK has also been active in the trade unions for decades. And this is why I feel LP should’ve wooed JK or any astute leader from any of the trade unions with working class roots. Modified: having said all this , I still respect GRV for his courage, bravery and the openly forthright stance he has taken on how he will dismantle institutionalized corruption and state-sanctioned thuggery in the state. 3 Likes

A hardworking man who has reaped the fruits of his labour . A true Omoluabi. Hardwork always leads to success . Any yoruba who comes to the east should follow Soji Salau’s example and raise their level of hustle. If you don’t make it , work harder . Putindbutt: You’re talking about Betty Akeredolu. If Bianca can lose a primary election , why is it an issue that Betty lost a primary election . Bianca contested against a more experienced politician who had already been in the National Assembly. Who had also contested for Anambra governorship several times. Similarly Betty lost as she has not been an active or visible member of the state chapter of the party before now and also does not reside in IMO. This shouldn’t be that hard . Your last statement makes no sense whatsoever in this argument. Go cast your vote for the candidate of your choice . Whoever gets the most votes win. Obi would not have won in Lagos if Yoruba did not vote for him. GRV will not win if Yoruba don’t vote for him. And I’m sure many igbos will vote for Sanwo olu. Free your brain from bigoted thinking. |

Ttalk: She contested primaries and lost . It’s simple. Twist the narrative however y’all want it for your own nefarious reasons but the simple fact is she doesn’t have enough influence in that state chapter. Whoever gets the most votes win . And why didn’t she get enough votes ? Oh wait does it have anything to with the fact that she doesn’t even reside in the state. Neither has she been visible in the activities of Imo state chapter before now. And you expect she would win. Use your head. |
