i would say its a welcome development, good idea afam, but you could still work on the communication. at first glance it should speak the aim of the site and easily direct first time visitor to what next to do with the site. I think the ads by the side stoodout more than the main content itself. otherwise nice idea, maybe a little graphics (well done) wont hurt. ![]() |
1001 AE tuts, some webpages others videos, pretty easy software, if you practice, and you can do much with it. http://filmmakeriq.com/general/featured/1001-adobe-after-effects-tutorials.html |
careful, don't throw stones meanwhile i wonder how this was achieved www.fixoutlook.org great design(visual communication) x good programming(function) = brilliant |
When people hear the word "design" they often think only of what something looks like. but what about the value in communication - user interaction/engagement, a beautiful functional website that gives a total experience to the user about the brand - thats me (ux evangelist, total brand experience) ![]() |
been using wordpress and i find it easy to tweak and extend with the many available plugs, you could also write your own plugin if you are up for it. But for social networking sites wordpress mu is suitable, it allows you host multiple blogs for your users just like wordpress.org, then BuddyPress gives it more functionality as a socialmedia platform. and if you are used to wordpress then creating your own custom theme and enhancement for mu would be easy. |
Some times I get to reject some design projects for some good reasons, but one re-occuring issue is Clients changing their mind on the agreed layout, or project goal right at the middle of the project. then you have a 2weeks project in your hands for 6weeks. Question is what do you do when a client is taking more (value) time than he bargained for, and how do you manage such clients and help them achieve a clear cut objective (because some of them dont know what they want). |
Front-End Design Conference 2009 full videos for your learning library, i thought it will be useful to you all http://vimeo.com/album/115906 |
well I saw the site, and am thinking - good, attractive, engaging, but, why 100% flash, i think this is 3years behind, today flash(100%) is more suited for apps, product showcase, not total site. Try reducing your dependence on flash and go Ajax, everything on that site could be done with ajax(any of the frame wroks will do) then use flash for some little tricks here and there. any way good site, keep flyin naija. ![]() |
intrested! a long time coming, this ll go a long way to revive this section. fill me in for graphics design and freestyler, i would also suggest new tutorials be written specifically for the mag. taking into consideration new trends and needs of todays designer. thanks gdi_samson[at]yahoo.com |

@poster what if the maps are accessible via wap, then you find a suitable way to monetise |
@ndbest i MIGHT sound funny but, forget aptech forget Niit, even a good road side computer school will give you a good foundation on the tools I mentioned earlier. Then spend the rest of your time and money on buying books, experimenting and creating with your imagination. it worked for me, you could try it too. ![]() |
@ndbest Your Raw talent is an advantage, most people fail to realise that knowledge of just the tools don't count much because the industry thrives on creativity and your ability to sell yourself. You can start by learning to Use Corel Draw, Photoshop and adobe illustrator. take them one at a time, in time you would see how they complement each other plus your creativity. Go through online tutorials, don't just folow the steps play a little, mix and come up with your own style (this sets you apart). don't stop at Corel Draw, Photoshop and adobe illustrator, learn about colors, read about fonts and arm yourself with good ones, look at your environment-learn from nature (light & shade). experiment alot. Offer your service as a creative designer to your immediate community: Churches, schools, and small biz around. Over time you would improve, as you grow don't forget to give back: mentor someone, share ideas, don't let pride get in the way. Enjoy yourself. ![]() |
For a designer who has to deliver being away fro your system could be painful, especially when you can't avoid it. I was in a similar situation recently and i came online shoping for solution, look what i found: http://www.mininova.org/tor/337326 http://reymendoza..com/2006/08/portable-photoshop-cs2-26mb.html http://garcya.us/blog/portable-photoshop-cs-3/ and www.portableapp.com enjoy, if you find any ore useful app please post here. |
@dje good job, love the site and ur portfolio too. |
@shylle thanks for the comments, but i don't agree totally with it. i play with white myself, i am not isolated, as i follow the trends on design from the foriegn scene (http://www.davidairey.com/portfolio/), currently am experimenting- trying to build my own philosophy about design as an art and science for communication and expression. thanks, i would take note of all you suggested. ![]() |
check here http://www.webdesignlib.com/ am not sure if they have all your list ![]() |
now what you use matters little, its your creativity, ability to mix colors and your understanding of all the other nuts and bolts of design that counts. ![]() |
