PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS NEW LEADERSHIP FOR POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION AND NIGERIA POLICE TRUST FUND

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd) as the Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The President has also approved the appointment of Chief Onyemuche Nnamani as Secretary and DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd) as Member of the Commission.

The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Other members of the Police Service Commission will be appointed in due course.

Furthermore, the President has approved the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Sheidu as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) with immediate effect.

The President expects absolute demonstration of integrity, diligence, and patriotic zeal in the discharge of these important functions for the overall wellbeing of the Nigeria Police and the nation.

PRESIDENT TINUBU APPROVES NEW LEADERSHIP FOR NATIONAL COUNCIL ON CLIMATE CHANGE

In accordance with his commitment to actualize Nigeria's green industrial vision, boost investor confidence, and unlock sustainable economic value through various climate finance instruments, *President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC)* in interim capacity, pending the confirmation of her appointment by the NCCC Supervisory Council.

The President has also approved that Dr. Maduekwe, 39, who holds a Bachelor of Law degree; a Master’s degree in Environmental Law & Policy from the University of Dundee (UK), and a Doctorate degree in Law from the University of Hull (UK), is to serve as the *Co-Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Committee on National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP).*

Dr. Maduekwe has over 15 years of national and international experience in climate policy development and project implementation. She previously served as Nigeria National Coordinator, Climate Parliament. Climate Parliament is an international, multi-partisan network of legislators working worldwide to help solve the climate crisis and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Dr. Maduekwe was also the legal adviser to the NCCC Director-General.

Furthermore, the President has approved the appointment of *Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng, 40, as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance & Stakeholder Engagement, Office of the President.* He is seconded to the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) Secretariat, where he will handle all matters related to Climate Finance & Stakeholder/Donor Relations.

The President has also approved that *Mr. Shelleng is to assume the position of Secretary of the Intergovernmental Committee on National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP)* and serve as a member of the Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions, as well as the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.

Mr. Shelleng, who holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has served in leading roles across multiple financial institutions, and was Head of Business Development for the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company PLC (NMRC) before his appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the President.

The President has also approved the appointment of *Mr. Olamide Fagbuji, 44, as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology and Operations, Office of the President.* He is seconded to the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) Secretariat, where he will oversee the digitalization of a new open procurement process and cross-departmental procedural optimization initiative.

Mr. Fagbuji served as Special Assistant to the President on Economic Matters under the previous administration, and was most recently the Technical Adviser to the Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) on Policy Research and Strategy. He is a policy analyst and computer scientist.

By the directive of the President, the aforementioned appointments take immediate effect.

The President expects the new appointees to bring their expertise and discipline to bear in these very important assignments in pursuance of the nation’s aspiration on green industrial development and climate action for sustainable growth and national prosperity.

EXCLUSIVE: Finance Minister Edun Proposes N105,000 as New Minimum Wage

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, has proposed N105,000 as the new minimum wage template presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday, POLITICS NIGERIA has exclusively learnt.

The proposed minimum wage which is approximately $220 USD is slated to be paid per month to Nigerian workers.

It is gathered that the Tinubu is currently reviewing the proposal with an official announcement expected soon.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that the NLC/TUC had ordered a worker’s strike over the Government’s refusal to accede to its demand of a higher minimum wage of N494,000.


However after a day of the exercise, both parties went back to the negotiation table and finally reached an agreement. In fulfilment of their own side of the deal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, mandated Edun to provide a template for the new Minimum Wage latest Wednesday.

FEDERAL TERTIARY HOSPITALS TO INCREASE RECRUITMENT OF HEALTH WORKERS

In a bid a address burnout and shortage of human resource for health in Federal Tertiary
Hospitals (FTHs), Federal Government has ordered Chief Medical Directors of all FTHs
to double their intake of personnel.

Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ms Daju Kachollom mni, made this known at a meeting with the Hon. Min. of State for Labour and Employment, Bar. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha

and the Leadership of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD)

, led by Dr. Dele Abdullahi. The meeting was convened to engage with NARD over issues the association had raised in a recent correspondence to the Federal Ministry of Labour.

Speaking, Daju who said that the directive to the CMDs had already taken effect, stated
that this was in addition to the planned training of frontline health workers and other
government measures to tackle the issue of shortage of manpower in Federal Tertiary
Hospitals.

She further highlighted concerted efforts by the Ministry to improving the country’s
healthcare system and working conditions of healthcare workers, mentioning that
expansion and upgrade activities was in progress in various hospitals across the country, including strategic collaborations to increase interventions such as the ongoing
consultations with the Federal Ministry of Power on the provision of Solar Systems for
all FTHs.

With regards to increased renumeration she said that such conversations must be had with
the relevant MDAs present. But for the delayed implementation of allowances and owed salaries, she said the Ministry had written as well as met with the National Salaries Income Wages Commission and was waiting on a feedback. Adding that in the coming days
government will begin payment of the 2024 MRTF.

However, she lamented the incessant attacks on health workers especially doctors across
the country citing the recent occurrence at the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja which
she described as disheartening. And noted that the Ministry had set in motion plans to
engage with security agencies including the NSA to find preventive measures against
these attacks.

In the meantime, she said that efforts are ongoing to beef up security in the hospitals
through perimeter fencing, installing of CCTV amongst others.

The permanent secretary while appreciating the Minister of States for calling the meeting,
as it afforded NARD the opportunity to put in perspective the issues affecting the association, appealed for the review of Collective Bargaining Agreements especially as it concerns validity to avoid having unending agreements that hampers effective
implementations of these agreements.

She assured all present that the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare
will continue to keep track of all CBAs to ensure complete implementation in the interest of industrial harmony,

Is first 28 days, but if you are posted to office within your LGA in your address, in civil service rule you may only get 30% of the allowance, the more the distance of your address in your appointment letter to the place of your deployment the more the pay. E.g if your address is lugbe Abuja and you are posted to NARSDA HQ, You are not supposed benefits anything.
Married personnel get more pay than single also especially those with children.

Employment Scam: ICPC Secures 5-Year Jail Term for NSCDC’s Commandant

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has secured the conviction of Mr. Christopher Oluchukwu, a Commandant with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for his involvement in employment scam.

In the case filed by ICPC at the Katsina State High Court 3, the convict was accused of receiving the sum of N200,000:00, N300,000:00 and N400,000:00 respectively from three individuals under the pretext of securing jobs for their children with the NSCDC.

The victims had reported the matter to ICPC after the convict failed to procure the said job and refused to refund their money.

During the course of the trial, counsel to ICPC, Ibrahim Garba had in a 9-counts charge told the court how the action of the convict negates Sections 8,10 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

News Flash: FG approves Salary increase for civil servants*

The Federal Government has approved an increase of between 25% and 35% in salary Increase for Civil Servants on the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures

The Salary Structure are Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and
Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated
Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS) and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

It will be recalled that those in the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors had already received their increases which involved Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS)
for Universities.

For Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, it involved the
Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS).

The Health Sector also benefitted through the Consolidated Medical
Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

A statement signed by the Head of Press, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Emmanuel Njoku said the increases take effect from 1st January 2024.

The Federal Government has also approved increases In pension of between 20% and 28% for pensioners on the Defined Benefits Scheme in
respect of the above-mentioned six consolidated salary structures with effect from 1st January 2024
