gypsey:
my man! i think you exaggerate too much, and like that female asserted you are just jumping into sheer conclusions,

look! the percentage of nigerians who can afford all you have mentioned above is just %1 of who are mostly politicians who are just squandering tax payers money.

The Average remaining %99 of nigerians are poor and can not afford to travel to US or can Afford a room in the US.
yes! there are nigerians who are struggling in the US just like any other country in the world. there are also wealthy nigerians who are rich enough to buy their houses outright with no mortgage, it's not as bad as you have painted it on here, and no one, i mean no one! works 24/7 in the US, grin stop talking Rubbish! and no company would allow you to work 24/7 even if you want to. it's Against the law. Don't believe everything you hear
as that female have asserted be factual. the US is not full with only poor folks.

Don't bite my head off, it's not just my opinion i can prove it too. and yes! i have dashed (what ever that means) someone £20 infact i have dashed a lot of people £20 numerous times Ciao! grin
you too didn't even read my well..go back and read and highlight to me where i said all Nigerians living in the US are poor...and come to think who is exaggerating..what do you make of saying that only 1% of Nigerians can afford to come to US to spend their money on vacation..child birth and school and you went on to say only politicians in Nigeria does that...are you sure you are a Nigerian...maybe all those alaba boys ..bankers..telcom guys...oil and gas guys..are all politicians...it may pain the female contributor cos i just said what is the truth and what people don't know about some part of life of an average american...i also did not say some Nigerians in US don't own their houses..brother the type of ownership is different from cash and carry Nigerians come direct from home to own..

Take it or leave it...and by the way me never travel outside Nigeria o o so no come with i know you haven't traveled before as una dey talk..but i will someday travel too. lol..when am ready na America will come to my house and beg me with immigrant visa not this visit visa people dey do fasting and prayer for.

wow your argument displays some ignorance......but its not my duty to educate you I'll only tell you this....be factual when you state your points.
Madam i would say its you that is ignorant and myopically economical with the truth...refute what i said with a substantial argument to prove me wrong...and i don't think you even understand the topic before commenting...i know you are in US and probably what i said touched you which is the bitter truth...take it or leave it...a lot of people in Nigeria can pay your monthly salary without blinking an eye...yes america has beautiful environment..steady power supply..good roads...food medicare system which some of you in US cant even afford but Nigerians back home can afford to come and pay for their medical treatment...

madam tell me when last you dashed someone $10 from your pocket...Nigerians back home can comfortable pay your flight ticket back home without even thinking twice....stay there and be forming US is heaven when all you do is work 24hrs to meet up with bills and taxes...and you are here calling me ignorant..

apart from the health sector and IT that i mentioned what else tickles in the US?..can you start up a business? with which money?..or the education i mentioned how many in US went to school without student loan or is it not same school Nigerians comfortably pay through their pocket to come and study?so which one did i say that was not true...how many of you guys in US bought their houses without mortgage..same place Nigerians back home come and pay cash and buy houses why you work 24/7 to keep paying your mortgage for the next 35yrs...

madam you may live in the US but i may also know more than you.

US: Better money, better schools, more opportunities, better weather depending on the part of US you live, tougher immigration policies
Canada: easier immigration, good welfare system, affordable healthcare, cold weather.

Someone once said 'it is better to be poor in Canada than in the US but better to be rich in the US'
If i go by making money reasons to migrate to US or Canada...i will ask you to stay back in Nigeria...we have more money in Nigeria than thise in US and Canada...how many Nigerians can afford to put all their family inside plane and vamoose to Dubai spending millions on shopping and tours...how many Nigerian Americans have even built houses in Nigeria...all this idumoya boys..ladipo...Computer village and alaba boys can afford to pay some nigerians in the US monthtly salary without shaking...apart from Nigerians in Health sector and IT in uS...others are just earning meagre salaries not good enough to have common vacation in a year...check out guys in naija...and see what money is..
so we should not use money issue to talk about america or canada...health care like you said in US if you have money you can access..same thing nigerians back home do..they have money and come to US and access same health care and pay for it...Nigerians from home schooling in the US all paid cash tuition fees...Americans cant afford school fees except by long debt of student loan...

I would anyday choose US over Canada. Yankee has it all....from varities of weather, land mass, opportunities, stronger economy, best tourist attractions, different races, best medical facilities, one of the best educational institutions, best entertainment industry...just name it!
US is US and Canada is Canada..no country has it all as you mentioned...a lot in US don't have jobs and a lot in Canada are not actors or musicians...US got schools ..Canada also got good schools....to buy house in US is harder than to buy in Canada...US have good medical facilities but no free medicals and Canada has good medical facilities and free medicals even up to surgeries...Canadians don't eye US ,,is it with gun shooting and killing of people?..US a loud Canadians are conservative...Canadians don't drop out of school ..US does...education is of high priority in Canada while US only few can access education even with student loans and grants...US has more beautiful cities and more vibes...Canada few beautiful cities cos of their size....earning power is same in both US and Canada....Canada has severe cold ..US has both severe cold like Canada and warm weather...

Both Countries are good to live in....if you love loud noisy life head to US..if you love quiet peaceful and stress free life head to Canada..you will make same money regardless of which country you chose.

Good luck but go legally..don't use visit visa to enter any of them otherwise you wont love yourself.

Hello all I want to say a big thank you to all those that have contributed in one way or the other on this thread. I've applied twice previously for a trv and was refused both times. The last application before this third time was in Nov 2016. Anyway I decided to reapply again on the 19th of Sept and did bio on the 20th of Sept.. on the 24th of September I was asked for additional docs ( children's birth certificate ). I submitted this on the 27th of Sept. To God be the glory on the 5th of October I got passport request for myself, spouse and 2 kids.
Congrats..this is formular one speed..just less than two weeks from start to finish. You are lucky fellow,we have been on the wait for almost 90days now...still counting days with the embassy.I wonder what criteria they use in attending to people.

Maybe you should count 7 weeks from the day you did biometrics which is 13th July. I submitted on 7th Aug and did biometrics same day. I was called on 29th Sept
Even at that if you consider 7 weeks from 13th of July its still did not add up tho their reason for delay..travel date has come and gone which was 1st october as per flight reservations.

It seems this Canadian embassy don't follow their time frame of processing...Submitted online application 5th July 2017 and did biometrics 13th July and i am reading of people who submitted August 5th being answered.Still wondering what they jump dates.

Reason for the email to Accra is that I see no reason why a mere TRV would take 99 days. They talk about first come first serve but I am not sure that its a true statement because some people who applied a couple of weeks after her had already gotten a response from the VO. As such, as a customer, I am disappointed at their level of service and processing timeline.
Nice one..learnt something again

It is normal for every graduate who hears oil and gas to want to jump into it. Relax. you will need to build your Accounting experience first. you don't do that in oil and gas. I don't know of any Multi National firm that employs fresh graduates in Accounting department. Most guys in my department for instance did 3-5 years In an Accounting firm before they got here.

My Advice...seek employment in firms like PWC, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte or some other top local firms like Adetonai Isichei and SIO. Build your experience there, give urself 4-5 years of experience building and you will see how lucrative the Accounting profession is out there. You will see job offers you may be confused which to choose. you tho have to support yourself with basic ICT skills. The problem we have today is that some Accountants have so engrossed themselves in book keeping that they don't fit into the big firms with sophisticated IT systems.
All the best.
one part of your comment caught my attention "I don't know of any Multi National firm that employs fresh graduates in Accounting department"...you know why? because Nigerian school systems is from class to another class pseudo work...in western world every course run in schools are more hands on preparing you from Class to your desk work...the big 4 you mention in western world recruits from school direct..fresh graduates...we have them here all over...here schools show you statistics of employment rate direct from graduation and that informs your decision to enroll in that school...we dont have the tools to prepare students on hands on and ready to work from school and that is the essence of going to school to learn to use it to work cos you are taught that...how many schools offering accounting has lab or workshop filled with computers with all accounting softwares used to practically teach students?none...so how do you expect a fresh graduate accountant to hop in with confidence to start the job...here in Accounting depts from year one you are introduced to simply accounting, quick book,SAP,ERP,sage(all lines)Peach tree outdated but would still be taught...students are given live financial transactions to work on as a team and present their financial report, students are giving books of coys to audit...they are sent in teams to part of external coys auditing job as part of group assignments...the reason here to be chartered accountant with the designation is nothing people sought after cos it rarely gets you upper there ..students do this jobs without being chartered cos they already know it from school...

if you are an Accountant and earn 200k in Nigeria..better change career..we have people who work in less tedious jobs and profession and earn 1m without being accountants...the era of raising shoulder with the ICAN designation is gone...we have lots of people who read and passed iCAN that cant even balance a book or even provide a trial balance...

however,i advise if you are an accountant in Nigeria ,please start gradual transition to IT accounting..think of the future, right now in the western world here Accounting is not even seen as what a lot wants to study...people delve into business intelligence, data sciences, info system security...try and get your CISA,CISM and back it up with Business analysis and you will thank me later..start drifitng to where the world is heading to..dont be stagnant.

By the way before i am asked what do i know,i am an Accountant( Accounting academic background),ACCA, with over 14yrs in financial investment, internal control, corporate finance and taxation all in the Maritime Sector. But now no more reside in Nigeria.

Ma'am, excuse me but I don't think you are on the right path though that is your opinion and I respect it. Defending the lady in question is okay because we haven't been opportune to hear her own part of the story BUT judging from what is on ground, I don't see the reason why the lady in question have to be bitter and cold towards his husband to be family. Haba na! Who does that? If you read correctly what he said here, it clearly shows that there is no love for the family at all.

My brethren, you need to have a round table discussion/pillow talk with your wife to be. Find out what her grievances towards your family is. If okay for you, I suggest you take her to your pastor/imam for thorough counseling and discussion. Remember, this is one mistake you can't afford to make. A wrong move can ruin your life forever! May God be with you and equip you with the needed wisdom in treating the issue. Jah Bless!!
I also want to digress on that assumption of over involvement from the guys sisters..lest be factual...some girls naturally hate to see thier in laws around their husband and i have said before that if you start dating a girl and the first question she ask you is.."is your mum still alive"..wear your running shoes and stay away...she has told you she may not like your mum forgetting that she too will be a mum soon...with that said...

if it was her family that brought another wedding planner with the 280k bill rather than hers will she fume up?nope...common marriage is never a one man thing...families are involved..this is Nigeria even the whites they still have mother in laws around them cos i live with them here...how do you want to build a healthy marriage relationship when you want to show resentment to your in laws without no just reason..but you love yours and want yours to be involved..is she creating a family at all...some ladies have come into a family where there are issues between her husband and sisters and the wife will work with love to reconcile both cos she believes she belongs to the family...

Now is this the type of wive that will allow her husbands mom to come live with them for a couple of months to access good medical care in the city where they live?this will prefer the husband not to come close to his mother and allow her die..

now let me leave you with this...i cant sacrifice my mothers love and care for another lady i found who did not have a bearing and contribution to the what i am now be it rich or poor...a wife can abandon you at any point in your life but your mom will never...at age 65yrs and you are suddenly bed ridden..you will see your mom of 85yrs still cleaning you up..running from pillar to post seeking for the best help to save your life..your mother at that age will go to the extent of providing her back to lift you out of the bed even when Doctors are telling her she cant carry you..you will hear her say..he is my son i can carry him...that is the bond and compassion ...most wives would be busy pressing their iphone to even realise you need help..

sit your wife to be down and talk to her let her know you cant alienate your family members just to please her...she is but one person agaisnt 6 people...when the chips are down your family is key...your wife can leave the marriage tomorrow as its the norm this days without blinking an eye but your family may never abandon you.

Hello House.

Just to update u guys. Hubby and I applied via paper route on 5th July. We linked out application to an online account and we've been checking status. Got response today and we were both denied due to the fact that VO wasn't satisfied that we will return, travel history and insufficient funds.

It's not a big deal. We will visit other countries and see our friends that are based in canada some other time.

Wish you guys all the best!
that's the spirit and i love your concluding part..we will see our friends in Canada some other time and we can visit another country...if we all have this kind of thought after refusal we wont be working ourselves so much up with the denials after all na your money you wan come spend just to see shop malls..snap picture with oyibo for background and look at skyscrappers...

We are in a group from Nigeria and we applied for tourist visas on June 21, 2017. We haven't received any confirmation yet. We were invited for Canada’s 150th anniversary, which has come and gone. What faith should we have that these will come soon?
Thats not an issue,Canada will still issue you visa if they think so regardless of whether Canada 150th years anniversary is gone by...however Canadas 150yrs celebration is still on till December 2017....events are still going on to mark the 150th yrs so that is not an issue at all.

Please guys, I need your help.
Am staying in Dubai, want to apply for Canada visit visa with the intention of extending it to a permanent visa when I get there. How do I go with the visa application? Even if it's better applying from Nigeria. Help me with the step by step procedures. Thanks
Sorry that i am asking, please how do you intend to suddenly turn your visit visa in canada to permanent resident?cos i am interested too to learn how?

That apart,i sometimes dont understand it why we Nigerians when we are denied visit visa of any country we begin to threaten fire and brimstone and thunder to the country that denied us...we even go to the extent of doing fasting and prayers for months just to have the authority to enter a country and spend our money..our own money. If you are genuinely seeking for a visa just to visit and see how the country looks like you should not be angered when the authority said you aint qualified to visit yet...other countries are there to visit.problem is Canada has seen many cases of people who abused thier visa...UK has seen that...US has seen that and they know the story line too...apart from the people that got visa lottery in US,Students that graduated and got jobs and were subsequently helped out and those that got family sponsors..a lot over stayed thier visa and found themselves in somehow who now claim American citizens...

like someone rightly said..if you are denied visa of any country please look for another to go for your holiday...it may interest you to know that last week Canadians have asked the government why is Canada not being opened to the rest of the world to visit and appreciate the abundant nature Canada has...they asked the question why are other countries that are tourism endowed opening up and allowing people to come see what their country has while Canada is locking up,refusing to take advantage and make money through tourism..i can tell you that if you really want to see nature at its best Canada tops among...you may not see the type of amazing skyscrapers you see in dubai but you will sure get doses of the type of nature you have never seen before..so Canada is also losing by not issuing visit visa but they dont want to use because they want you to come and see nature and then take in visitors who will refuse to leave..just like you asking a visitor to come in to your home just to watch BBN as he doesn't have light or money to subscribe to the cable tv to watch it and after the show instead of the visitor to find his way back to his house..you saw him spreading mat for in your sitting room getting ready to sleep over..even asking you on top join whether you no go give am dinner chop?

so please and please visit visas are not do or die thing...before applying for a US visa to attend a Global economic summit in New York as i was one of the Nigerian delegate,i have visited 18 European countries,4 south american countries,3 Asian including Japan and China,2 middle east and almost 9 African countries,i even returned from Germany just 3 months before going to the US embassy, the VO leafed through all my passports and saw most valid visas and acknowledged that i am well traveled and mentioned my recent trip to Germany, but what did she say.." i am sorry you are not qualified to go to the US at this time, you may reapply some other time"..i smiled and put my hand in the pigeon hole and snatched my passport from her hand while she was surprised i was smiling and laughing over her visa refusal, other Nigerians at my back were all saying oga abeg no make this lady vex before she go begin deny all of us visa..carry your wahala dey go o...

but today i have a valid 10yrs US visa expiry in 2026...why because i am now a Canadian Permanent resident. Same US embassy that said i was not qualified...nothing changed but Country of residence changed and that was it.Nigeria is seen as a country where everybody wants to run away and they are not far from the truth...we all want a quality life style.

Hi, I called the IRCC recently to verify this. You can apply to work while on visitors visa(TRV). But the employer would have to pay some money to CIC and undergo some screening at ESDC to ascertain that the job the visitor intends to do requires a scarce skill.
Please be guided...you cant use visitors visa to apply for work in Canada no matter what circumstance..if its possible i wonder why you have not asked why are people seeking for asylum when they can easily convert visit visa to use it to work..be guided...you need work permit obtained from your home country to work in Canada..lets keep accurate information here..

talking about the ESDC...which skill set is scarce in canada that no canadian or PR is qualifed to do...? that a coy will go to the extent to pay money for you to come work with them...maybe the skill you are bringing to canada is the skill of creating eclipse every two days in canada

What is being asked is simple. Let Buhari resume or resign if he is not well. Instead of joining hands to ask for the right to be done people are talking of northern interest. Perhaps if the man is completely paralized, they will want him to remain there as long as he is still breathing. I am not Igbo but I now see reason in NK's agitations. We cant continue like this.
Best comment so far...being real not all this tribal e-war lords here...some part of the country are claiming master instead of the others to rally round and fight against it na to dey talk up and down here...only the focused yorubas will understand the reason Arewa made that statement..osibanjo is the reason...the dont want another to take over the mantle of leadership who is not of their interest..i expect yorubas here to match that arewa statement word for word and not attack Nnamdi Kanu that didn't make the statement.

PoliticsRe: What Will Happen If There Is No Election In Anambra State by gentleiphy: 8:35pm On Jul 20, 2017
nwaanambra1:
ATTENTION NDI ANAMBRA GBURUGBURU!

For those shouting no election in Anambra State - especially those among you who are from our state, have you even sat for a moment and thought about the implications of boycotting election in Anambra State?

Well, based on the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria - which Anambra state is still part of, discouraging or hindering people from exercising their franchise in an election is classified as treason and in some cases terrorism.

we all know that many people will want to go and vote so as to chose who will govern them- but based on the high number of ipob touts deployed to anambra state by nnamdi kanu, many people out of fear of being victimized will chose to stay indoors - just like it happened during the previous stay at home order by ipob. forcing people to stay indoors is classified as terrorism - that's a crime against the state.

WHAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL DO WHEN THE ELECTION IS BOYCOTTED

If ipob led by nnamdi kanu succeeds in forcing people not to exercise their franchise during the elections by staying at home, the federal government will declare at state of emergency in Anambra State - the constitution will be suspended for as long as it takes to restore order - which may last for more than two or three years.

A military administrator from the north will be appointed to govern Anambra State for the period the state of emergency will be in place.
curfew will be declared from dusk till down - and anything that moves in between those periods will be shot at - and shot to kill.

Nigerian soldiers will be deployed in the entire south east but especially in Anambra State. This military occupation will last for an upward of two to three years. Anambra state will be fully governed by the military.

THE IMPACT OF STATE OF EMERGENCY ON NDI ANAMBRA

If state of emergency is declared in Anambra State even for one week, the impact will be so devastating that we may not recover from it for the next five years! how much more if it lasts for a year! don't forget that terrorism and hunting down terrorist doesn't just end in a week or months!

the federal might will be in Anambra for nothing less than one year and during these period, all the economic advancement made by ndi Anambra and its various active governors starting from Ngige down to peter obi and being consolidated by Obiano will all be destroyed!

the vibrant economy being jealously guided by ndi Anambra will be striped to shreds by the invading army! Anambra State will be looted to the ground!

we all know the modus operandi of the Nigerian security apparatus - which is shoot then ask questions later, many ndi Anambra will lost their lives for the simple reason that they were walking too fast while going to buy bread - the casualties will be too much that it may end up touching every household in anambra state!

the army will use Anambra State for Target practice - they can target your house and bomb it - or even your entire village and bomb it and claim that it is the hideout of ipob terrorist - if they can do it in borno which is their state how much worse do u think they will do to an infidel state in an infidel land! they will rape our fine girls, kill our young men and mess our vibrant cities and villages!

And guess what? nothing will happen! you know why? because we are in a state of emergency - the constitution has been suspended. human rights is now totally on hold! anything goes!

WHAT IPOB WILL DO NEXT WHEN STATE OF EMERGENCY IS DECLARED IN ANAMBRA STATE

After the declaration of the state of emergency in Anambra State, all the imported ipob touts will disappear from Anambra State as fast as their legs will carry them! then the army will begin to kill innocent ndi Anambra youths who are never members of ipob and brand them ipob terrorist (once the state of emergency is declared, the securities will stop calling them touts and miscreants but will start calling them terrorists).

the ipob miscreants will relocate to Enugu State and start their protest there - do u know why Enugu state?

because the Abia and Imo miscreants are too smart to expose their state to such anarchy! they will never take their protest to Abia and Iimo State! ask yourself - how many times have they taken their protest to Imo or Abia State? they hold their peaceful meetings in Abia and Imo but hold their riotous protest in anambra and enugu and port harcourt!

you know why? because an average Imo and Abia man are so self centered and naturally jealous of any one ahead of them! if truth be told, Anambra and Enugu state are so far ahead of these two states and are advancing faster than they can catch up hence their desire to destroy it - by the time they are done destroying Anambra and Enugu and are heading towards port-harcourt, things would av been settled and no harm will come upon their states of Abia and Imo!

after destroying Anambra - they will face Enugu and do same to it.

BY THE TIME THE HEAT IS HOT AND KANU IS DECLARED WANTED - HE WOULD AV TAKEN OFF WITH HIS ENTIRE FAMILY AND HEAD BACK TO EUROPE THRU THE BACK EXIT AND LEAVE OTHERS TO BEAR THE BRUNT OF THE INVADING ARMY!

whenever a man talks and brags that he will defend something with his life - believe me there lies a liar and a coward who will never make any sacrifice with his goat talk less of his life! Pete Edochie.

NDI AMANBRA - WHERE IS OUR SENSE OF PRIDE IN OUR STATE? WHERE IS THE WISDOM WE ARE KNOWN FOR?

My question to any one joining in shouting no election in Anambra state is - is this what you want for our dear state?

Is the fake struggle for Biafra worth destroying our state which we have worked so hard to raise it to this level?

I will advice each and every one of our indegenes joining nnamdi kanu to please go and read up history - biafran civil war destroyed mostly only Anambra and Enugu State - the present day Abia and Imo states were relatively left untouched - hence it is still a mystery to the people of these two states how we survived the destruction so fast and still leap ahead of them!

Do not let history to repeat itself in our state again!

CHARITY THEY SAY BEGINS AT HOME! LET NNAMDI KANU START HIS CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE FROM ABIA STATE!

IF NNAMDI KANU WANTS TO CREATE CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE LET HIM START FROM ABIA STATE! LET HIM START BY UNSEATING THE DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED GOVERNMENT OF IKPEAZU - AFTER DOING THAT, WE WILL JOIN HIM IN STOPPING DEMOCRACY IN OTHER EASTERN STATES!

Ndi Anambra please open your eyes! use your God given brain which we are known to possess in abundance in Anambra State!

DON'T LET NNAMDI KANU USE OUR STATE FOR HIS IPOB EXPERIMENT!

NDI ANAMBRA IBEM! PLEASE DON'T ALLOW NNAMDI KANU AND HIS IMPORTED IPOB TOUTS TO DESTROY OUR STATE WHICH WE HAVE WORKED SO HARD TO UPLIFT!

Good write up my brother..to those who reason they will understand but to those touts imported to create chaos in Anambra state who are mostly idle barrow pushers with no sense of thier own they will go to any extent to follow Nnamdi Kanus antics...Nnamdi Kanu does not have any business or shop in Aba..Onitsha or anywhere...but like the op said...only a fool will sit down and watch another man help him burn down his house in the guise of helping him catch a rat...

Anambra people would be counted as the worst fools ever if they help Nnamdi Kanu to render Anambra Useless...the igbo man business we so much make noise about all come from Anambra...an who will suffer most..all the Anambra business men in osha...when there i no election who then will be the governor..Nnamdi Kanu?..and Anambra is not even asking what becomes of the sitting Governors in Imo,Abia,Enugu,Ebonyi..Nnamdi Kanu should first order them to resign to align with no Governor in the East...or its good that Abia his home state has gobernor while Anambra wont have...if anything goes wrong in Anambra i will not blame Nnamdi Kanu but the gullible Anambra people who foolishly got tricked to create chaos in their own state...i have said it without time and number that i represent a full igbo man but i do not represent the Nnamdi Kanu ideaology of Biafra...we have so much at stake to throw it away with rubbish...

Conman?how...i just gave my objective opinion boss...and conman doesn't seem to me a proper language..my objective response is based on experience of both side of the coin of living in Nigeria and also living abroad.I quess i made sense to the op..by the way before you conclude that i am one of those naija that wont hesitate to leave naija with visit visa or one of those that ran away to abroad and are no where to be found...i worked as an Accountant with the Maritime in Nigeria for 12yrs and now living in Canada with my family as permanent resident and work with one of the richest Estate and property development company in Western Canada..i moved to Canada under the federal skilled workers program out of choice of getting tired with what naija offers in terms of living life and for the future of my kids..and i have enjoyed every bit of my decision so far.
TravelRe: Is Travelling Out Of Nigeria Only Way To Escape The Harsh Economic Situation? by gentleiphy: 9:50pm On Jul 13, 2017
All the advice and contributions by everybody here as regards the OP's question whether to stay back in Nigeria or travel abroad are all valid point made.Being objective in some decisions seems the best way to tackle issues as well as being realistic.

For starters,no country in this world is the street littered with money money that as soon as you are born or arrived the country you start picking the coins and notes on the road...you have to work through your strengths, ability, ambition and mindset to achieve anything. With that said,in every country there are rich and poor,in Nigeria there are also rich and poor, graduates in any country also have to face competition to get jobs like Nigeria. In every country people have started jobs got fired and lose it from there, same in Nigeria. In every country you also need capital to start off a business so also is too in Nigeria and if you don't have capital you cant start..however some countries have stable economic environment to encourage business growth while some the harsh economic weather can stifle any intent of succeeding in business.

Now let me go to the question.Travelling abroad should not be seen as a do or die thing and also should not be seen as a route to the syndrome of Make-money-quick..if you intend to be in a legitimate job with a legal status..its easy to delve into the make-money quick in Nigeria than elsewhere because the system in Nigeria is based on anything goes..fake drugs goes, substandard materials goes and the rotten political systems and financial fraud. So many have personal reasons to relocate under LEGALmeans and not on a visit visa...some also have personal reasons to remain put in Nigeria and wade through the storm of hardship created by the politicians which by the way can in the near future end and things return back to normal.

someone here rightly said that so many in Diaspora are not better of because they have not built a house in Nigeria or have any investment in Nigeria...yes but measure of success mostly are not by how many houses you own, measure of success to so many is the quality of lifestyle you live with little or no money as compared to non quality lifestyle some live with plenty money..i will explain.

Some Nigerians left the country in search of better quality life for their family, kids and have access to the most commonest basic things being denied in Nigeria. Some have held big managerial positions in Nigeria but when the chips are down they are caught up in the web of confusion and hopelessness attached to Nigerian society. Some run away from Nigeria not because they dont have this money but because they seek for quick access to good and quality health care delivery system with or without money, some seek better security and protection of their lives, some seek easy access to clean portable drinking water and 24hrs electricity, some seek the freedom and respect as a human being first and foremost where rights are both for the poor and the rich and not only for the rich and where the legal system protects them whether rich or poor, some seek to relocate to better afford their kids a fast and assured future both in education which is quality and at a pace commensurate with their age. Most also sought for better job and at the same time enjoy all that i have mentioned above..nothing good also comes easy, you have to raise the bar to fit in to the new country you relocated to.The okonjo iwealas did not just get successful in the US,she worked hard for it and which she was to be in Nigeria she would been see as being made once she gets to Abuja politics..but US offered her the opportunity to become what she is today and mind you her kids have never lived in Nigeria.

Not undermining also the achievements made by so many Nigerians in Nigeria too and all that didn't come on a platter of Gold, hard work was also visible. But the difference is,the society and its perception about what quality life should be..Nigeria is zero and not looking like its going to ascend out from the zero mark anytime soon.Apart from the rich and the lucky middle class, can we say that everybody in Nigeria has the same access to same provisions of things that makes life easy?nope but in western world everybody both rich and poor have access to the most commonest things that makes life sweeter and better...in western world people may not be earning half of what an average Nigerian earns but are better in living life...simply put in western world both rich and poor are LIVING life while in Nigeria both rich and poor are merely EXISITING.. the difference in both LIVING and EXISTING can put this way..the existing always run to the living for help and that clearly defines the abroad we talk about and the Nigeria we are comparing it with.

Finally,no place is as sweet as home, but sometimes the heat in the home will drive you outside to go receive the airconditon in another mans house and when you come back to your on house where you left you get surprised seeing the heat rashes(Poverty and stress) left in the body and faces of those in your home sweet home.Decision to relocate should not be based on what people abroad or people at home tells you...base your decision on what you actually want for yourself..is it money? or is better life or is it for the sake of running away from Nigeria...people work good jobs abroad..in US 99% of Nigerians are highly skilled and hold various top positions in their chosen profession and some destiny too kept them away from breaking through whether in abroad or back home...after all some in Nigeria started business before Dangote but some have parked up and return back to the village. But in all please do not relocate to any country without the legal way,do not run away to any country with visit visa...otherwise the sufferness you will meet wont be a nice story to write about..life is better abroad than Nigeria no matter how we explain it or try to use those that immigrated illegally and those not being fortunate to do the job they did back home which in anyway is tied to destiny...success is not by hardwork alone...success is favor from God first..to whom God chooses he bless.if you like run to jerusalem or remain in Nigeria what God decides about you is all that matters.

wisdom is the best.think carefully before you take any leap.

olisasegun:
Dear Consulate General,

On Each Applicant Being Treated Fairly and On Their Own Merit

My name is XYZ MD, a Medical Doctor working in a federal government hospital in Nigeria; I applied for an American non immigration visa and attended the interview on Tuesday (21/07/2015) at the Lagos consular office (Passport Number: A06712115 and Confirmation No: AA0054JJQO).

The purpose of which I intend to visit the US is both academic and humanitarian. I had planned to attend a medical conference themed “Difficult Fractures around the World” that will take place in Richland, Washington, September 16-19, 2015; a comprehensive discussion on treatment of difficult fractures all over the world.

SIGN (Surgical Implant General Network), the organizers and sponsors of this annual conference also give free intramedullary nail for treatment of poor patients with long bone fractures and I am fully involved in this free treatment in my country.

While waiting in one of the transient area at your embassy I noticed where it was boldly written that ‘we know some are nervous because this is their first visa interview, but they should be assured each applicant will be treated fairly and on their own merit’ (I might not have used the exact words!!).

However, to my greatest surprise the gentle lady who interviewed me appeared to lose interest when she realized I have not travelled before. She even used my supposedly strong points against me; monthly income and being a resident doctor.

She demanded to know why I have not travelled before despite my bulky monthly income, I told her I am very busy because of my training program as an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon, the relevance she seemed not to understand. This I believed should have counted in my favor for the purposes of my US visa application. Moreover, the culture of travelling starts one day, why not with United States.

While studying the major criteria for granting of non immigrant visa: the purpose of travelling (mentioned above), ties in Nigeria that will ensure I return and the financial ability to afford the trip and stay in the United States and perhaps most importantly not being a risk to your country’s interests; I strongly believe my application should have been granted without issues.

I have a good and enviable career with Federal Medical Centre, a tertiary hospital and one of the best of its kind in Nigeria. My gross monthly a salary is #Bleep,Bleep (about $x,Bleep)

I am member of West Africa College of Surgeons and due for fellowship examination early next year after 6 years as a resident (This I would never jeopardize for an unknown future in the US). Even if am given stay permit in your country, it will take me a minimum of 10 years to get to where I am today in my country.

Additionally, I am married with two children, I have 2 cars and landed properties in two different towns (one of them is presently being developed). You can say I belong to upper class in my country, this is a comfort zone obtained after many years of hard work which I will never throw away.

Above all, I was never given the chance to discuss or prove most of these highlighted facts during the interview.

Lastly, I have devoted all my life to serving humanity and helping people get well. I have no family, or friends in the USA and I am definitely not flight or health risk. I believe I was not treated fairly.

I have made this complaint so that my case can be revisited if possible.

Thank you.

Dr. XYZ

Thank you for your email, your concerns are noted.

We do not have an appeal process. Applicants must wait at least ninety days to reapply. However, we strongly recommend that applicants only reapply if they believe that their circumstances have changed or they are able to present additional, compelling evidence of their socioeconomic ties to Nigeria or their reason for travel to the United States. Evidence may come in many forms, but when considered together, must be enough for the interviewing officer to conclude that the applicant's overall circumstances, including social, family, economic and other ties abroad, will compel him or her to leave the United States at the end of a temporary stay. “Ties” are the various aspects of life that bind one to one's place of residence, such as family relationships, employment and possessions. As each person’s situation is different, there is no single answer as to what constitutes adequate ties. Eligibility determinations for non-immigrant visa applications are made on the basis of the information presented by the applicant at the time of the interview. Refusals under Section 214(b) cannot be appealed or overturned, but they are not permanent. If the applicant is unable to establish eligibility to the satisfaction of the adjudicating officer, his or her only recourse is to reapply.

We regret any inconvenience this decision may have caused you. If you choose to reapply in the future, our practice is to have a different officer handle the interview if possible.

We hope this answers your questions.

Sincerely,

http://olisasegun..com.ng/2015/12/my-letter-to-us-consulate-general-and.html
I know this is an old story but some reading now can still pick some few things from my contribution.Sorry for the visa denial Doctor...i appreciate the fact you took your time to write them a mail to register your dissatisfaction with the reason given for your visa denial and the auto response you got too which is the usual response to everybody that has been denied and wrote them.I want to also say that our Doctor here has the right to express his anger and also do the US visa officers has right to deny and approve visa to whoever they want to...like some one rightly said..visa approval is not a right..any country can decide on who enters and leave their country especially if you are from the third world country you are seen as a potential run away regardless of your earning or income bracket after all okonjo iweala dem and chimanda adichies are all resident in the US because the US offers more than 200% what Nigeria can never offer in any time soon..

I also want to say here that there is nothing wrong with the Doctors non travel history..i have always told people that in Nigeria .US visa officers approve or deny visa based on their mood and not about any ties or not or travel history..personal experience...my cousin who graduated from school after service no job for 2yrs decided to give a trial to US embassy for visa...he has never crossed cotonou and therefore does not even have a passport..he got his passport 4 months prior to attending his visa interview...he was single and a young boy...three things here...no job..not married...never traveled before and no intention of coming back if granted visa..what happened,,he was given 2yrs visa and that ended the story..the rest is history as he has his green card now.

Now on my own personal experience,i worked with the Maritime,i earn a high income,i have traveled to 13 European countries,4 Asian,3 south american, middle east and around Africa both for work, vacations and world cups and nation cups..3 months after returning from Germany,i had a conference to attend in New York,i paid for my conference got all application for visa sent and went for interview...female VO picked my two passports leafed through all the pages saw all valid visas and travel dates and asked me i was in Germany last 3 months i said yes,she asked for the purpose i told her for work, she said she noticed i have traveled to so many countries and for what,i told her for work, vacation with my family and for sports events...she asked further if i have family i said yes..she smiled and said..sorry you are not qualified to enter the US..i smiled thanked her and left without anger because i know she has right to deny and approve my application...it saved me flight cost and accomodation as i got refund for the conference though...as that time i went for that interview my Canada PR application was almost through as i had done my medicals...so i never gave the denial a thought..

Fast forward to me arriving Canada with my family and after 5 months i went back to the US embassy here in Canada, now i was not asked questions about anything,i was only asked my status in canada and where i wanted to visit on a tourism..i mentioned, the vo laughed and started suggesting to me other places in the US i can visit to have quality time...she even told me i was denied visa back in Nigeria some months and i said yes and she said that wont be anymore..i was given 10yrs visa.

The point is applying for US visa from a 3rd world country is just a matter of VO mood as we all are seen as potential run aways..so Doctor dont see the denial as anything whether you met with the ties they so much talk about or not..if you still want to go for your conference wait a bit and apply again...a happy visa officer may be your interviewer and you will get your visa...i have seen people who got visa just because it was the VO birthday and she was so excited and happy reminding every applicant on her window it was her birthday..

So please apply again when you are ready.
