Sorry guys i have not had time to come on here to give script of my visa interview which i reapplied yesterday, had to rush to catch a flight to Warri....

Got to the embassy 7.30am(had to cos of the lagos unpredictable traffic) as my interview was for 8.30am....went in did all the necessary and got on the queue, was using corner eyes to check out for my denial girlfriend visa officer, spotted her with her rimmed eyeglass and not smiling as ever...this time i am bent on dodging her even if she says next....

next and it was me..not to her cubicle though but to the elderly white man with eyeglass too(me and eye glass VO)

VO:Good Morning
Me:Good morning and how do you do
VO;I am good thank you...your passport please
Me:Here please(i passed across my passport)
VOsadLeafed over the two passports, raised his eyes and looked at me)..so where are you going to in the US
Me;NYC
VO;Oh i can see you were here some days back
Me;Yes
VO:So tell me about your NGO
Me:told him all about the NGO(VO nodding his head while his fingers were busy dancing on the keyboard typing)
VO:how many days are you going to spend
Me:Strictly 4 days
VOsadstopped typing)..can you tell me why 4days
Me:Because i am going solely for the conference and i have another conference to attend in Johannesburg of my professional body which starts 3days after the NYC conference
VO;oh i see you travel quite a lot...is it always on this conferences?(ha this one dey ask plenty questions)
Me:Not always,vacations,work and conferences
VO:whats your occupation and where do you work
Me;I am so so and work in so so coy as an Accountant
VO:oh ok...i am sorry that you had to come back(think he saw i was there barely a week ago)...i am approving your visa.(brought out white paper circled and apologised visa might be 10 days unusual)
Me:No problems..thank you and have a great day.

Left and went straight to the airport, just came back this evening.

Trying now to see how i can book flight ticket for multi city route Lagos-NYC-Johannesburg-Lagos

Thanks ladyguinivere,Chloe7(hope you got a date now?)Bigfido and the rest...Karma no see me catch(on a lighter mood)

hello everyone. i have been following this tread for long. i just got a letter of invitation to speak on an edo association convention in the usa cos of my position as the national secretary of another edo association registered in nigeria, i was invited along with my association president.

my problem is my dad is an american citizen who has filled for me as a single. i am supposed to get my visa by 2018 and i dont think i can wait.
i am married wit four kids and my best chance at the embassy is to claim married but my sister (also in the usa) is against it. she wants me to
i want to give it my best shot by using married even if it will spoil the other chance if this one dont go through.
pls advice.

and also i read somewhere i have to book appointment 2 months to the event with begins sept 4th, how true is this?

pls we got three days hotel reservation cos the event last for three days, is it good enough to say we intent to enter the US that same day?
Use your present marital status to apply which is married...but what year did your dad file for you as a single

Good gentleiphy, please no more doing illegal things abeg! Nigeria as it is is bad enough, let us try to redeem our image so we could be respected again. i remember at JFK airport in April, the TSA (sic) guys that spoke to my daughter were so happy and gave us several tags on our jacket. i was happy and all these happened after checking our passports. Don't do that illegal stuff again abeg! wish you all the best mate
Thanks Bigfido...like i said the only reason i reapplied is based on the two good forumites advise...visa interview extract will follow after 24th....lol at illegal things..wont say more.

@gentleIphy it might not be in your best interests to state in a public forum that you conspired to commit a crime (which if the guy actually runs away, it would be both a crime in the US and Nigeria)

That said, helping a potential runaway is bad. Also goes to the record of your NGO. Casts aspersions on future honest applicants coming from the same NGO. It is very annoying when acts like this colour the minds of embassies worldwide about Nigerians / and other 3rd world countries. Frankly I'm appalled you even had the mind to talk about it...repeatedly.
If I'm allowed to state my humble personal opinion. I'd say karma kicked you in the behind
you made your point but not karma...just stating the obvious.

Every visa applicant is an assumed Immigrant. The reason for the interview is to prove to the V.O that you're not. One common way to do that is to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that you have strong ties to your home country. That is the principle of section 215b of the United states immigration Act. If your immediate family is in the states and you don't have strong ties to your country namely (marriage, family, an awesome job, landed properties you hope to develop, a career.), then my friend, it's a sure refusal. Chloe is right k?

#Prof FredoRicko
@Fredricko...in as much i agree with what you said but to some extent i still maintain the VO may not base their refusal or approval on all the ties you mentioned and no other conviction you can give arguing your point with the VO when he/she didnt even ask more than 4 lines of questions...my case is an example and the boy i brought along was another pointer...i was denied based on the VOs mindset and the boy was approved based on his VO mindset.....if you talk of ties i have it more...an Accountant, good job for 10yrs witth same coy, married(wife has her own thriving business Dubai and Paris frequent,i have travelled to more than 13 European Countries both for work duty ,vacation and NGO meetings.4 African countries including South Africa,Kenya.Botswana and Ethiopia..(Ghana no follow cos na frequent)...and i have never applied to US embassy before cos i have no reason to...first time is for the same NGO i attend the meetings always twice in a year outside Nigeria..and mind you i have lands too being developed...but i was given the blue paper..after VO checked all the visas and even mentioned that i traveled a lot and same for the NGO meetings which am going for in New York, next question am i married..yes and any kids i said no and refusal.so in this 4 questions how did she know i didn't meet the ties and wont come back when all the ties they want is there...but the boy i came with?passport gotten 2 months ago, works in a cyber cafe with less than 50k,single,never been to Ghana..and his VO asked him where he was going to and for what purpose he answered what i thought him and white paper came out..your visa will be ready in so so time...16th of June this happened.so i am still looking for the ties they want.

Hello House, Ithought this might help someone. I just got denied

VO:Good morning
me: Good morning ma'am (passed my passport)
VO: Where in the United States are you going?
Me: Newyork
VO: Why are you going to Newyork ( Wasn't really paying attention)
Me: Visiting my sister's family moreover my Dad has requested to see me..he is just recovered from an ailment ( this is the truth indicated on IV)
VO: Have you traveled out of Nigeria before
Me: No, I have not had to travel out
VO: Are you married?
Me: Still single
VO: Who is sponsoring you
Me: I am sponsoring myself
VO: How much do you earn
Me: 220k
VO: Do you have any other relative in the US
Me: My mum lives in the US too.
VO: Where in the US?
Me: Newyork
VO: (Types a bit more and hands me the dreaded blue paper) I am sorry you have not met the requirement for the grant of a tourist visa.
Me: With the hard face I have kept all along... just took the papers and moved out of the room..

I do not really want to start guessing what went wrong because she appeared quite sympathetic for turning me down... but that is just my brief observation...Hints on what to do differently if I want to try again during my next vacation is welcome
Dont be sad...denial is not death sentence, anytime you wish you can reapply and that day may be your lucky day with a good visa officer..there was nothing wrong with all you answered ...cos i dont want to hear someone say its because you are not married and because you have people over there...they have given to single with less than your salary...cheer up..after all na your money you wan still go spend.

dejdel:
Sorry gentleiphy, luck was not jxt on ur side...I read ur script line by line and I was able to pick out why the crazy vo denied you despite your strong ties, financial and travel histories. Here we go: U got it write from the start not until when it got to married for 6yrs plus with no kid!.He/She believes that,as at that time of your travel histories, things was going on fine between you and your wife, now that you guyz have been married for 6yrs with no child!,problems might have transpired between you and your wife at the moment and here you are trav elling. Strong indication is there for you to press p if u get along with a lady and mistakenly or deliberately impregnate her. These are just my own observations base on your script,I stand to be corrected. We are all here to share views. Goodluck to u on ur nxt application.
Thanks @Chloe7 and LadyGuinivere for responding to Dejdej with that explanation ,dejdej...maybe you didn't get the script and what we are trying to do here always is to align our assumptions of visa denial with the "so called ties" the US embassy proclaims. But so many cases here has proven that visa denial and approval is not based on any of their ties cos in this forum oga dejdej we have seen so many scripts which you cant fault at all based on forum member meeting all the ties they want ans we have seen scripts here where there was no plenty ties and visa approved...no kids yet in any marriage is not a denial issue..if it is why then do they approve even engaged people and still deny same engaged others..how comes some applicants with all the ties being met with 5kids join and still got denied...what Chloe7 and LadyGuinivere just rightly said and from my script is for all house members here just apply for visa regardless of whatever tie you want to tie to your neck and pray to meet a good visa officer on your day....we have seen middle aged Professors with grand kids being denied...na that one too wan run? and i still in my script told you of a boy i wanted to help wey wan run sef..he doesn't belong to the NGO but i added him from my local chapter to see if he will be given visa as a first timer..virgin pasport gotten 2 months ago..single and salary less than 100k,,and he was given that same yesterday...so in your own opinion between the guy and myself who has the ties they are looking for more?

Yea I checked,Chloe7 and saw middle of July but with this denial the NGO refunds the summit regsitration fee on ay visa rejection with proof of that blue paper before July 13th..that's why I said if I get first week of July I will give it a try so if any case I can still get refund and agin middle of july for visa and then flight ticket go don reach tip of iroko tree.let me just fashy and apply for Vacation with my wife sometime August.

For christ sake dubai people whey dey stamp passport know wetin dem dey do, they will be something on that stamp that they won't be able to forge for sure and that's how they will catch them.
Yea Chloe7..I understand your point but I lost interest after today cos that lady really made it look like I wan run when I reach US when my wife is here and owns a very thriving business that takes her to France and Dubai on monthly bases..registered limited liability coy with me sef listed as major shareholder...if I want to reapply honestly it will be for Vacation with my wife let me see if I am not qualified again then I go try to go do undergraduate na to see again lol..the summit is end of July and I don't think I can get any date this june or first week of July for visa appointment..well I will see what I can do..if I get a date before end of june.or early July then I will give it a try.

My only advice is for you to reapply immediately if you can, maybe they just want you to pay visa fees again so as to help their fund raising business. Yeye people lipsrsealed huh
Thanks Chloe7..I understand how you feel about it cos even my self I was surprised when the blue paper came out and I was like..for real?..the truth is that today they dashed visas no be small except those two..they were not giving at all and I happen to be their mugu but I won't dash dem any money again until I reach Canada and apply from there..and that na 10yrs visa sure banker.

So I don't know if you had your interview in Lagos...but I just had mine in Lagos for 9:30 slot and Guys u won't believe it..They were dashing out today like water...Only like 2 wicked cubicles were acting up...1 Old Man with glasses and 1 other one sha
Yes you saw it write..you must have seen me cos we were right after you guys the 9.30 am..I was infront of the indian family with their little daughter,,the old man with the eye glasses and the skinny lady too with eye glasses..the young boy with eye glasses was dashing visa anyhow even to people who could not explain their purpoise to US,,he just laughs and gives the white paper..except for one girl that came with a forged dubai stamp on her passport to prove travel history..the young visa office saw it and kept probing the girl to tell the truth..the girl initially was trying to deny it until she later accepted when she was asked who she bought that dubai stamp from..she opened up and said someone she gave money did it..the young visa officer was furious but it didn't stop him going furhter to keep dashing visa..the lady that interviewd me didn't give 6 people before me and no serious question she asked anyway..and I saw two young ladies given who got their purpose of travel mixed up..one said they were going for school curriculum seminar..they jumbled up the whole thng yet thet were given..by the dashing visa officers..so just pray for the visa officer on your case be the one that was told to dash visas..if you jam the one wey dem tell not to give.its your bad luck like mine..cos if you like carry all the family ties and work ties use trailer bring am na blue paper...but like ladyguinivere said..I would have loved to reapply but not ncessary am not too hungry for US ..if not for the conference I have never had thought of visiting US.

At last my interview was today 10am..got at the embassy 9.00am.After all the queues and appointment and DS 160 form, fingerprint and the rest..finally cubicle visa officer face off begins.
One particular bony visa officer with eye glasses can't remember the cubicle number was busy denying almost everybody both old couples and young..not smiling and didn't last 1minute and blue paper appears.but about 6 visa offcers were dishing out visa like pure water and we all prayed not to fall on the wicked lady.
Lo and behold I was pushed to the wicked lady..
VO:good morning
Me: good morning and how are you
VO:murmured fine thanks with bony face, please pass me your passports
Me:gave her my two passports with old and new
VO:where are you going in the US
Me:New York city
VO:for what purpose
Me:To attend an NGO summit which I am a member
VO:oh I can see you are widely traveled for same NGO conferences(she looked all the Visas and stamps)
Me:Yes
VO:And the last was Nov and Dec last year in Germany,Amsterdam and Paris
Me:Yes
VO; what do you do
Me;I am Accountant with so so oil and gas coy
VO:how much do you earn
Me:356k after tax
VO:are you married?
Me:Yes
VO:how many kids
Me:none yet
VO:And how long you ve been married
Me:6yrs plus
VO: Typed and typed and fiam blue paper appeared.
Sorry I can't grant you visa at this time..you can reapply anytime.
Me:Thanks and have a great day.

Not upto 2mins..note..I have been to nearly 13 countries half on Vacation with my wife, some on work duty and others on NGO conferences in different countries..worked with my present coy for 9yrs.however a new member in my local chapter I took along so to have a feel of what the NGO is all about globally, single, never traveled before was given visa by the lady in cubicle 2.and the boy was surprised on first trial and with no travel history, salary below N100k and new member got.he was bitter I won't be going with him anymore.
So in all I was denied.

I think people with good career background is also a plus, remember they gave provisions on the DS-160 form to fill in your employment history. I remember filling that part with my three last jobs and giving clear details of my functions during those years. I have this theory that the VOs actually scheme through submitted forms a day prior to the interview date. Hence, they would normally have made up their minds on whose to approve and not to.

just my thought!
That too is a what we feel the VO's use but cases abound here where that requirement was well met and all other factors met too but still visas were denied...i still believe they issue visas as how and the mood they woke up in that day....or how do you explain that of a friend that worked for 2 banks before joining one of the multinational tobacco coy here as a regional manager with wife and 3 kids and good travel history to Europe and Africa, some for work duty and some for vacation..and yet was denied visa on his first application but after about 5 months he came back same condition as at when he applied last and he was granted...the other visa officer that denied him, what was his reason and the one that granted after 5 months of denial what was the additional thing he saw that the denial master didn't see...its just favor from God and not because individual applicants packaged well or were super confident in responding to the questions...so VO's sef hardly listens to you even though they were the one that asked the questions as they were busying typing while you talk...point is i want to agree that before you even stand in their front they have already pre approved just waiting to see your face.

Thanks.

But i got this info on the web

* Please Note:
IF YOUR COUNTRY OF BIRTH IS NOT QUALIFIED FOR THE US GREEN CARD LOTTERY, YOU MAY STILL BE ABLE TO QUALIFY!
/read below/:

Native of a country whose natives qualify: In most cases, this means the country in which you were born. However, there are two other ways you may be able to qualify.

First, if you were born in a country whose natives are ineligible but your spouse was born in a country whose natives are eligible, you can claim your spouse’s country of birth—provided that both you and your spouse are on the selected entry, are issued visas, and enter the United States simultaneously.

Second, if you were born in a country whose natives are ineligible, but neither of your parents was born there or resided there at the time of your birth, you may claim nativity in one of your parents’ countries of birth if it is a country whose natives qualify for the US DV Lottery Program.

To enter the lottery, you must meet either the education or work experiencerequirement of the DV Program: You must have either a high school education or its equivalent, defined as successful completion of a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education; OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience to perform.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s O*Net On-Line database will be used to determine qualifying work experience. For more information about qualifying work experience, see Frequently Asked Question .

If you cannot meet either of these requirements, you should NOT submit an entry to the US DV Visa Lottery Program.

There is no hard translation of what the guildline says..the first person that responded to you gave you the best answer..please continue your application as a Ghanian..unless there are other things you didn't share here that will warrant you shying away from applying as a Ghanian unless you want to put your application on a probability scale.

abeg Chloe, your visa awaits you. Looking back now, wish they had asked me to come back too. But that's just the benefit of hindsight. I was there in good time today but was denied. Still at a loss as to where I could have gone wrong or rather, where the VO went wrong. She focused on my work place and kept asking questions and typing. To every question I had an answer and the end no strong ties.

Purpose was child birth, clearly stated. She confirmed I was married but didn't even ask about my hubby who isn't travelling. I even thought that was strong enough for a tie. Coupled with my work place which is a multinational oil firm.

Right now, not sure if I should reapply or what my chances will be. Do I apply with hubby or how else do I prove strong ties. I'm beginning to feel the strong ties reason is a camouflage, could there be something elsehuh

Chose to share this to let those who've been denied also to know that it happens, cos it seems people would rather share their experiences when they get their visas.

To all those attending their interviews soon esp generous Chloe7(I admire your spirit) wish you the very best and all round favour.
So sad to hear you were denied....i think in my own opinion..US visa officers issues visas without any reason depending on what is in their mind..that strong ties language to me is a mirage...they just collect visa money and deny genuine traveler visas...my cousin who got his visa and traveled 2 years ago(Intention sef was not to come back)..he was not working, single and just 28yrs,virgin passport which he got 2 months before his interview, and purpose of visit was VACATION...the lady just asked him when he intends returning and he mentioned the date and boom..collect your visa in 3 days time...the guy vamoose enter US and about travelling all over Europe for his vacation...not to say he is gainfully employed now, running his degree program and has his papers(via akata marriage thing..na him know)...note,..his first ever flight was to the US as he never even go Ghana before. So my point is its only this visa officers that knows what they want.

yes you can take the both but don't be surprised if you don't get asked for any of the two, but follow your mind if you want to take them you can.

stboff I think the part that messed the whole thing up was the whole importation thing you mentioned in the form because with your transcript everything went well except that part you can give it another shot if you don't mind , don't be too verbose when filling your form is another thing i've learnt, well i'm still searching for visa and my interview is next week the 10th, i've been refused twice, i've been to the uk,europe and dubai, if you need a vacation bad then go to Seychelles it is really pretty there and it is visa free for Nigerians and also the maldives .
Chloe7..you nailed it...i think what you fill and who you answer goes a long way to point whetheryou will be given visa or not...like you said being too elaborate in filling the form and also answering the questions might just be the denial button...again like stboff also observed i may want to agree with him that this VO's pre- approve your visa via what they have read from your application and wait for you to confirm their judgement...stboff..don't stop trying..first time denial is not permanent denial

Chloe7..i believe this time around you will get your visa...mine is still 6 days after yours 16th..lets pray for a favorable response.Meanwhile,my friends wife who has never traveled to even Ghana before and just got her passport Dec 2014 was given a 2yrs visa ..she applied for vacation with her 2 yrs baby with exclusion of her husband who is a petty trade while she works with a bank(3yrs).So its not mostly about travel history na dem know.
