@ Tombola I am very sure of what I posted here and pls read this and tell me am wrong again brothers Nigeria 4th worst in medical system -WHO Written by Kehinde Akinyemi, Abeokuta Friday, 24 April 2009 Nigeria has the fourth worst medical system in the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said. The National President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Dr. Prosper Igboeli disclosed this yesterday, in Abeokuta. His disclosure is coming on the heels of the charge by former Head of State, retired Gen. Ibrahim Babangida to the Federal Government to give the health sector more attention. The NMA President who made the disclosure at the opening of the 2009 Annual General Scientific conference and delegates meeting of the association in Abeokuta also lamented that government and professionals had neglected the care of the elderly and disabled. Igboeli said the country’s medical system continued to fail mainly due to ineffective implementation of health care policies, mal-distribution of health workers, limited funding and poor infrastructure, a development which according to him placed the country as the fourth worst medical system in the world. He said that the “gruesome report calls for a reflection on our role as doctors in the health sector. There is great need to restructure our primary, secondary and tertiary levels of care. It calls for better and increased participation of physicians in developing health care reforms that are practicable and in line with Millennium Goals (MDG).” The NMA leader also berated the attention given to doctors in the country by many state governments, noting, “many doctors in the public health system face daunting working conditions, poverty-level wages and poor conditions of services, unsupportive management, insufficient social recognition and weak career development”. In his opening remarks, the former Head of State noted that providing more human resources and equipment would go a long way in achieving the set goals of the crucial sector. Babangida, who was the chairman of the occasion but was represented by the former military administrator of Lagos state, Raji Rasaki also used the occasion to task medical professionals to ensure that only qualified members are allowed to practice in order to guarantee high professionalism. 10 April 2009 - About 1,500 people of Tungar Kwangi village in Kebbi State are now taking refuge at a primary school in neighbouring Lolo village after their own village was attacked by people alleged to have come from neighboring Benin Republic. The entire village was razed to the ground, although no life was lost. The Tungar Kwangi villagers alleged that about 2,000 people from five Benin villages of Madikalai, Ilwa, Dorowa, Tungar Babako, and Waina carried out the attack. Daily Trust could not immediately ascertain the real cause of the attack but our correspondent learnt that there had been an old dispute between Tungar Kwangi people and their Beninois neighbours, who claim that the former ought to be in Benin and not Nigeria. Speaking at their refuge camp in Lolo, village head of Tungar Kwangi Malam Maigari Zanzani claimed there was no disagreement between them and the Benin people. He said, "They just hate us because we are Nigerians, we did not do them anything, they just burnt our village". Also speaking the Imam of Tungar Kwangi, Liman Abdullahi debunked allegations that Tungar Kwangi people killed a Beninois man. He said their attackers came with guns and other weapons. Alhaji Abdullahi appealed to government to assist them in rebuilding their houses, saying the raining season is approaching. The Kebbi State Police commissioner Mukhtari Ibrahim was not available for comments while the Police Public Relations Officer, Kebbi state Command Dawud Nguru said he could not speak on the matter until the police commissioner is around. Relevant Links * West Africa * Nigeria The acting Governor of Kebbi State Alhaji Ibrahim K. Aliyu visited the village yesterday and donated relief materials to the victims. He calmed the villagers down and commended the victims for not taking laws into their hands. http://allafrica.com/stories/200904100132.html Opinion This ugly incidence too place 2weeks and behold our Parliamentarian have finally wake up from there slumber directing the President to send troops to secure/seal that boarder off. I just pray we don't have a repeat of Bakassi and Western Cameroon issue. Just imagine Jamaica, Cuba, or Haiti invading United State of America ![]() |
Why do we hate constructive criticism so much? How hard is it for us as a nation to take these criticism on board and put it to good use? That way we shut the critics up, but no, we aint doing nothing and hence we give them more ammo. It is a simple logic really.I don't why we hate constructive criticism. It was evidently clear that a country big as Nigeria, blessed with a population of 140million, 6th Largest producer of Crude oil was no where to be found in G20. It was only South Africa that attended the meeting. Nigeria would have been a major player in global events but we 've been relegated due to bad leadership and corruption. This report is simply to awaken us from our deep slumber may be Nigeria would end up attending G30 (that is if there would be something like that) |

You have no right to compare this instance with what happening back in Nigeria. Everything that the u.k Mps do, is in the confinement of the Law. I am sure you are aware that ab expenses reform is in progress. Please try and be clear not every MP claims this 2nd home allowance. This is my issue with people like you. You will never accept when an external body identifies ongoing issues which all of us have failed woefully to confront. you never know maybe the british government might help us do something about our dire situation as we all still waiting for God to do something.@ Blacksta Bros tell them abeg. Press Release-22 April 2009: The people of Nigeria are suffering due to a lack of leadership from within the country and from amongst Nigeria’s international partners. As a result, the dangers from corruption and mismanagement are growing, causing concern for the coming 2011 elections. These are the principal findings of an investigation from a group of British lawmakers in the most recent report of the influential British All Party Parliamentary Group on Nigeria. “Nigeria has an array of challenges to overcome: problems of accountability and transparency, human rights violations, a flagging power sector, political manipulation creating conflict, an economy dominated by oil. Nigeria hopes to be among the top twenty world economies by 2020 but this will not happen unless its leadership – at all levels, including federal, state and local government and civil society leaders – becomes organised and takes direct responsibility for the people, ” warns the report. It is for this reason that Nigeria needs credible elections to take place in 2011. Elections are key to achieving democratic accountability: good elections in Nigeria are essential to start shifting government accountability from oil revenues to the people. The report recommends that electoral reforms are implemented and voter registration begins now. The APPG believes that enabling the people to engage in the politics of their country is key to battling corruption in Nigeria. The report notes: “The country and any hope of reform or moving forward are undermined if the government lacks legitimacy in the eyes of the people.” Opinion ![]() Source:http://www.saharareporters.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2574:british-all-party-parliamentary-group-on-nigeria-slams-nigerian-leaders&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=18 |
Where in the UK are the Nigerian prostitutes please George? Facts or 'themsay'?In UK it takes 8mins to respond to any accident victim but you cannot find any ambulance on highway, what you see are police & security agency's vehicle. So them tell me am wrong about Italy and Spain. Simply because u're based in you are based in UK abi? Bros suggest ways on how to improve things in this country since u're not based here. |
Whatever might be the cause of accidents in Nigeria 911 or any other emergency numbers don't work. If you manage to get through they 'll tell you NO PETROL. |
Happy Birthday to him |
In most cases the vicinity is controlled by touts that charge some money to allow access to the spill site to fetch fuel. as Oyb said, the major motivational factor for these guys is not despair, but extreme greed. Why would somebody wakes up one day and becomes a tout? Why are we not touts? We are not simply because by chance we have something/work doing. In the absence of this rare chance, probable we would have been worse than them. For example if we're not lucky to be working, there is nothing like social security welfare or any vocational school can can keep our minds and body busy. We all know that poverty cannot be eradicated but what we are saying here is that extreme poverty should be minimized. No attempt is been made to do this. Please have you been opportune to travel to some interior villages in the North, West and the creeks of the Niger delta? Do you know how many people die daily on road accidents in this country daily? Take a sit @ Abuja- Lokoja- Kaduna road. Do you know how many pregnant women die everyday due to lack of good health care facilities and bad roads Do you know how many people die of hunger in this country. All these problems and other related ones never get to the attention of the media due poor statistics/records The only Nigeria is exporting commodities we have is crude oil and young ladies. Nigeria have the highest number of prostitutes outside Africa. Go to Spain, Italy, UK etc and see them You have never seen any. If you're ready we can take a tour so that u'll see yourself |
Ppl who do not have a future in the sense of food, what do U expect them to do since they can take the risk and may be survive, so the risk has to be taken.pls tell them. There is a very thing line between hope and despair |
umm what does population have to do with a sports competition? Are u implying that we don't have the potentials? |
The government only creates an enabling environment and support for its citizens to use their positively creative minds to conquer the commercial world by creating products people want to buy and watch the goodies (dollars) coming home.Give me one single enabling environment/condition these mad leaders have created for our teaming rural/urban populace. Every year farmers cry of lack of fertilizer/pesticides and lack of farm machinery No good read to transport these little farm produce to the market No light to preserve perishable goods Bros the list go on and on may be l don't know what enabling environment means but l'll like to know urs pls |
And this nonsense shout about POVERTY - Well let me tell you 'knuckle- heads' NO government in this world has ever taken its people out of poverty - that is the job and responsibility of its people. The government only creates an enabling environment and support for its citizens to use their positively creative minds to conquer the commercial world by creating products people want to buy and watch the goodies (dollars) coming home. WE THE PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE AND THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO GOVERN.You must be a beneficiary of these ppl with stagnant ideas ruling us. You absolutely don't have idea of what you're talking We are talking about extreme poverty here what are u talking? You are completely out of ur mind |
My fellow Nigerians. even if our refineries are working fine, what will happen is going to happen, and at the same time we should count the blame on economy, because if the economy is fine, Poverty cannot introduce itself so LETS PUT DA BLAME ON ECONOMY.bros are u in Nigeria at all? How can the economy improve when : The barber/salon does not petrol to power his/her gen The Vulgarizer does has petrol to power his pressure pump The Okada/goin/Kabukabu/achaba riders have to queue all day to get petrol Our mothers/sisters grinding pepper/tomatoes need petrol The list is endless, They have changed our country into a jerry can state. There is no house u'll go in nigeria that u'll not find a jerry can of either petrol/kerosene/water etc. No thanks to the gas flaring. Our current leaders are old, shortsighted and with stagnant ideas. The youths have been marginalized. China is almost 7-8 times Nigeria in terms of population, Go to India, Malasiya, Isreal, Dubai, etc .The youths of these countries played a vital role and given chance to contribute positively. My dear my heart bleeds for this country. Imagine passing through this life without enjoying 24 - 48 hrs of uninterrupted power supply. simply because am in Nigeria |
Govt seems not to care at all
|
.I mean the situation is very pathetic.Yes O! The situation is extremely pathetic No good roads No Stable power supply No Petrol No Kerosene No Gas No Railway line No good health care facilities No good food for the masses No! No!! No!!! |
